Ipod touch restoration issues

I was having problems with my ipod and having "waiting" apps so I decided to restore my ipod but an unknown error occured and now there is absolutely no drivers left on my ipod and when I try to download it to finish the restore it says it might not be compatible with my windows and may potentially harm my computer. Does anyone have any advice as to what I can do so I can use my ipod again?

Sorry, your problem is different. You're trying to sync to a new iTunes library and all media will be erased. The only thing you can do is a manual backup and transfer your purchases, here's how to:
Make sure your mac is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • IPOD Touch Restore Issue!!!

When I turned on my relatively new ipod touch yesterday, it had the itunes logo with a docking cord picture on the screen. I plugged it in to itunes and it stated "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode....". Ok, that I can deal with. I hit restore and then it states I have to restore and update software. OK, that is fine as well. It is downloading iPod touch software 1.1.4. It states that it will automatically restore after the software had downloaded. I have downloaded this software at least 6 times, and it states it is fully downloaded, but then the download box disappears and the restore does not happen. When I hit restore again, it downloads the software all over again... I am SO VERY frustruated! Have any suggestions????!!!!

    Hey Mary Beth,
Try "Deleting the restore files" as described on this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307219
Also make sure the iPod touch is plugged directly into the PC and not into a hub, monitor, or keyboard. http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1286
If the iTunes still will not restore the iPod try restoring in another user account as described in the first article.

I'm having trouble upgrading from 5.1.1, (my ipod suddenly stopped working while I was excercising) to 6.1.1, it keeps giving me error 40s and it stops at waiting for ipod to restore and suddenly resets, I've tried many different methods but I cannot get it to restore.
I've used Irecovery and looked at the logs, maybe someone can tell me what this means?

  • 5th Generation iPod Touch Syncing issues

I recently receive a 5th Generation iPod Touch as a gift and I am having issues with it. I plugged the iPod into my Windows 7 PC with iTunes 11.4.0.18 and had issues from the start. First, my iPod would not even sync any media content from my library. So I messed around with the settings until the content was on my iPod. Once, it was on there I went to play a song that I had downloaded and it immediately skipped the song and kept going to the next available song , so I went back on to the forums to see that it could be a corruption on the backup and all you would have to do is restore your iPod and it would fix your issue. I did that got to the same step and a few songs played but most skipped. The album art is there for most of the songs not the music. I then went to iPod>On this iPod to find that every song I had just sync had an exclamation point error by the song. This is only happening on the On this iPod menu the music plays fine on the music menu without an issue. I am curious of what I am doing wrong here? I also read that it could be a much bigger problem in that I would have to delete all my music and re-install it. If that is the case I will deal with the iPod as is. It is not worth my time to spend hours trying to re-install 15+ GB on my PC again.

  • Error (14) and (9) during iPod Touch Restore process

I am getting the following error when trying to restore my iPod Touch in iTunes:
"The iPod, "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (14)."  Sometimes I also get error code (9) as well.
I have the latest version of iTunes and have tried 2 different cables and 2 different computers.
    All security software is up-to-date.
This all started a few days ago when my iPod would just freeze, then the main light would flash and it would shut itself off.
I then tried to do the restore process within iTunes.
Now, whenever I connect my iPod, I get the following message:
iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes.
When I click 'OK", I will get the option to "Restore".  I then begin the restore process.
    First it says:  Extracting Software
Then it says: Preparing iPod for Restore
Then it says: Verifying iPod restore with Apple
Then it says: Waiting for iPod
Then it says: Preparing iPod software for restore...
Then the iPod flashes and resets itself and I get one of the two error codes (9 or 14).
There are lots of articles up here with the same issue but no resolution...has anyone ever found one?
    Help!!!

  • Ipod Touch: My Issues, help needed as fast as possible

Well recently i got an Ipod Touch 2nd Generation for christmas, and i must say i love it. But i have got some serious problems. 1) all applications that were not standard on the itouch crash unexpectedly and the only way to rectify this issue is to download something from the app store and they work again :S. Yes that is as bizarre as it sounds. Sometimes it will work fine and i can use any of my apps whenever i like. But frequently(more frequently as time goes on) the applications dont open, i touch them they open the background for the app and they take me back to the main screen. I have tried the following: reseting the iPod, restoring it to factory settings, uninstalling apps and then re-installing and this issue is resolute. I also happen to know that some other 2nd Generation Touch owners at my school have the very same issue. I have seen some threads dotted about explaining their issues that are similar to this, meaning its fairly widespread.
My second issue is really bugging me, i opened the itunes store for the first time on my iPod(i never get any of my music from itunes normally i detest the application.) and all of a sudden it downloaded a podcast without me telling it to. It was called Podhead: The DoorWhores Off to vegas. This is something i really do not wish to have on my iPod. So i synced it to my windows OS and tried to re-sync the iPod's podcasts with my library so that it would dissappear. But it didn't, i then tried setting it to manually putting files on my ipod and alas it doesnt show up in the podcasts sub section of the device. I tried playing the podcast and it takes me to the home screen of my ipod with the Play triangle flickering constantly in the top right of my ipod. I don't know what is going on with that but i havnt restored it to factory settings after this issue, mainly because my iPod refuses to accept that i own all of the apps i have backed up and i have no desire to manually re-download them to my ipod.
    3) That last scentence brings me nicely onto my final problem which is this: my computer tells me that i do not have the authority to put onto my ipod. Despite all of them being free and despite all of them having being backed up from my ipod.
Any help with these issues would be much appreciated. I am in desperate need of assistance before i come to the end of my tether and resign myself to a long trip to the nearest apple store. thanks in advance

Did you try to restore your iPod to factory settings and add your apps one by one to find out which app causes the crash? Try not to restore from a backup it may contain the corrupt parts you don't want to install again.

  • IPod Touch Sync Issues - Fails, then 100% CPU

I've been having a problem where when I try to sync my iPod Touch on my computer, it fails some way through, then the CPU is cranked up to 100% and I have to forcibly restart my computer. Ever since I've installed Windows 7 64-bit I've been having sync issues so I tried restoring it completely and I got myself into this mess. I originally had Vista 32-bit so I'm not sure if it's because of the change. But I have an HP Pavilion dv2615nr. Any help would be greatly appreciated cause I cannot get any music onto my iPod.

    dv2615nr
I believe you've got an nVidia chipset on that model. If so, and you've got over 4 GB of RAM, you'll need to update your Host Controllers.
It's available either as a Microsoft hotfix:
[You encounter problems when you move data over USB from a Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer that has an NVIDIA USB EHCI chipset and at least 4GB of RAM|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976972]
... or as a Host Controller update from HP:
[Driver update for Win7 USB issue on nVidia chipset systems now available|http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Lockups-Freezes-Hangs/Driver-update-for- Win7-USB-issue-on-nVidia-chipset-systems-now/m-p/188193]
(Unfortunately, it doesn't always appear on the downloads page for a specific model ... if you upgrade to 7 on some earlier models, they don't always provide all potentially relevant drivers. I couldn't find any Windows 7 drivers available for you model for example.)
To doublecheck to see if your model does have an nVidia chipset, it might be worth posting over at the HP Support forums.

Whenever I restore my iPod Touch 2nd gen the screen on my touch goes crazy. It will display the normal things in the background but with some weird white noise on the screen. It only happens during restore. What is this and how could I fix it? Thanks in advance!

Now it only has the white lines during the time of restoring when it shows the connect to itunes symbol. Other than that it seems the it works fine. What issue would it most likely be? Screen or motherboard issue? Thanks for the help!

  • IPod touch audio issue: why do I only get sound from one channel in my ear-pods?

After upgrading my brand new iPod touch 5th generation to IOS 6.1.2 I only get sound from the right channel of my ear-pods.
I did not have this issue with IOS 6.1.1. Is this a problem derived from new IOS? Any idea on how to solve it?
    Appreciate your help!

Have you tried other headphones? If you confirmned it is an iPod problem:
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

  • IPod touch unlocking issues

I have an older iPod touch 16GB, serial number 9C8527J3203, and had lost it for an extended period of time, found it recently and when i try to unlock it there is the connect to iTunes screen that opens up. I have tried connecting it to my macbook pro and it says I must sync it up with the last computer it was updated on. That is where the issue is, I no longer have that computer. What can be done to fix this?

  • Newly Bought ipod touch restore/recovery troubles

First of all I have no hardware what so ever on the ipod touch. I cant even view anything on it. I have downloaded the 2.2. So I when I finished downloading I clicked restored and on the ipod touch A downloading bar came up. For 10+ minutes its slowly went up and now 100%. It just stayed there in the "waiting for iPod" on the computer even though 100% on ipod.
When I remove ipod and connect again
    it says
"iTunes has detected an ipod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes"
    I click "OK"
    Then restore.
    This pops up:http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x.../untitled2.jpg
    I click restore and update.
    It then pops up
    extracting software
    then
    Preparing ipod for restore
Then waiting for ipod with a download bar ON THE IPOD ITSELF

Have you tried a reset using the Sleep/Awake - Home button combo?
I had some trouble with the 2.2 update last evening, and was able to clear it all up. Where are you plugging in iPod into? USB on the PC (case, etc.) or a hub? I had my Touch running OK on my powered hub, but had to move it back to the PC port last evening after the botched update.
Seems if it's connected in the right place, iTunes discovers the issue (and the iPod) and you should be able to restore the iPod. I've got 2.2 running fine today.

  • IPod touch Restore Backup

My iPod touch 5th gen was pulled back due to battery defect and I'm still waiting for the replacement unit.
My last back up was an iOS 6.0.1
The pre-installed iOS of a new iPod touch 5th gen is 6.0 right?
If I use the back up (6.0.1) and apply it to the replacement unit (6.0), would there be any complications like compatability issue since their iOS version is different?
    Thanks in advance!

Now I'm confused. When I asked the Apple representative about updating the iPod touch from 6.0 to 6.1 then use the back up in my PC which is 6.0.1. This is his answer:
"...However yes, that would pose a problem I am afraid, That would be considered 'downgrading' and isn't supported... You can go forward just not back."
So he suggested that I just restore the unit (6.0) with the backup (6.0.1). Then just update to 6.1
    Do you think he's wrong?
