  • Software Updater- Not connected to the internet

I have recently downgraded from a Cable modem to a wi-fi using Globetroter Connect and the AT&T 3G network. Now when I run Software update - I get a message that I am not connected to the internet - even tho I am running Netscape in the background. (I have tried both running netscape and not runing netscape so that's not the issue) I have browsed through old posts on this topic and can't seem to find help.
    thanks in advance

If other OS X internet dependent items do not work of don't work well
now that you've changed some system settings (or should have) in
order to use a new internet provider and other hardware, you may
have to change system settings. A non-Apple browser can use its
own settings and find an internet connection in your Mac. Other
parts of the system may not find the internet directly if a change
was made to your computer's settings or the hardware attached.
In some cases, a Mac owner may find Safari won't work; FireFox
will; and to the same web pages, the results will differ. Or other
internet dependent items such as certain live widgets can't find
the internet if they rely on other system settings not set correctly.
So, this means there much be some location setting, or some
old proxy, or perhaps a firewall setting or other block; maybe
even one part of the Network settings is correct in general
while another is not. Even improper DNS or other numbers
may be a partial reason for something halfway working.
If you get different results or none at all from native Mac OS X
internet dependent applications or utilities, then the settings
or location, or other network, or system pref setting, etc are in
need of review and some changes need to be tried.
Have you tried other user accounts to see if the system's own
reliance on the internet settings in System Preferences Network
and other basics still work (or don't) thereby narrowing the issue?
The kind of problem you've cited has other parallel causes under
different topics online; I have read about, but not experienced them.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • My ipod will not connect to the internet. I have tried everything - resetting my network and ipod settings, connecting to the computer, turning it off, and releasing and forgetting the network. Help!!

I do know what else to do! I live far away from an apple store so that is out of the question. I got my ipod about two years ago.

I just started having the same problem with my ipod touch. I didn't change anything on my network and my mac desktop is on wi-fi and works fine. I think there was an update on itunes that changed the settings. I went to another network at a bookstore and I got online right away. I have tried to reset and forget the network. It shows the network and I have full coverage but it cannot connect. I need help too!

Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router

  • My ipod will not connect to the internet it will keep asking for the password

does anyone know how to fix this?

There are some troubleshooting guides/knowledgebase articles that might help and I'm sure someone will chime in and give you the links.
In the mean time I'll offer this:
I had similar problems getting my iPod Touch to connect to a Verizon FiOS wireless router.  I tried every thing, and nothing worked.
Then on a hunch I changed the network name (SSID) and the password, and the iPod connected.
My issue was caused by the fact that by default Verizon uses LONG character strings for the SSID and password.  They do this to make your wireless connection "more secure," but for some strange reason iPods are picky about SSID and password length.
Try changing your router SSID and password.....

    Tap Settings / Safari.
Clear the History, Cookies, and Cache, then restart the iPod.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPod touch. To turn iPod touch back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.

  • "itunes could not contact the ipod software update server because you are not connected to the internet" Help?

Hello all, new to the forums.
I've been recieving the error message "itunes could not contact the ipod software update server because you are not connected to the internet". This problem didn't occur at all for the past 2 years of using itunes.
I've already scanned through numerous websites and forums for help, but none of them worked.
This  set of instructions resulted in no change to any of the problems, though iTunes lists that as the supposed solution.
    # Open Internet Options from control panel.
    # Click the Connections tab.
    # Click the LAN Settings button.
    # Select the Automatically detect settings checkbox.
Others include installing IE7, which that didn't work either.
    Can anyone help?

  • ITunes could not update because you're not connected to the internet. I AM!

    Hi,
Whenever I connect my 2gb Nano, I am asked by iTunes if I want to update my ipod software (to V1.3). If I choose to update, I get an arror message saying I can't update because I'm not connected to the Internet. But I am connected, and can access the iTunes store etc. Anyone got any suggestions?
On another subject,Whenever it is connected, the 'Do not disconnect' message appears on the ipod's screen and NEVER goes away. Am I supposed to keep it connected to my computer at all times? Surely not.
Many, many thanks in advance to anyone prepared to help me with this.

This link should resolve the issue.

My 2nd gen works fine with WPA2 and AES encryption.
You may need to go back and start over.  Reset the router back to factory defaults, log on as the admin, set up security, DHCP, and make sure the IP address pool has enough IP addresses to lease to ALL of the computers/devices that will connect to that the router.
