Is 8i Personal really free?

Is the Oracle 8i Personal software available from this web site really free to download and use? What's the catch? I'd love to work on our company database on my home PC. Thanks!

The liscense agreement that comes with the "trial" software (i.e. your download) will tell you all you need to know (yep I am sorry but sometime you got to read the fine print).
You may wish to check with your company as to if they have any generic or "group" or global arragement with oracle. Some companies has blanket agreements that state for example: that any oracle product can run on any of that company's machines without restriction (since it has been paid for in advance). This is getting more and more common. This generally is extendable to employee home based machines (and even employee owned machines if the oracle work being done is for that company's needs etc, but again check your LA and ask your purchasing fellows).

  • Are free apps really free?

    hi, i know it may be a silly question but im just making sure, i have a bb curve and im wondering if the free apps on app world are really free or do i have to pay for data usage or anything? thank you very much

    I'm at a total loss at how you derive this conclusion based on the answers we have provided.
    How is verifying that it is you and not someone else using the account a scam? How is trying to stop an unauthorized person from using your account to download apps that will be licensed for your exclusive use a scam?
    I'm perplexed and dumbfounded.

  • Is Adobe Fireworks REALLY free after trial period?

    Well, that's my question.  Is Fireworks really free after a trial period?

    No you will need to purchase the product if you wish to continue using it beyond the trial period.

  • Free app's really free?

    i notice on some of the EULA's and TOS's i read on some of these there could be "fees" associated with using them and we agree to them? some of the "buddy" ones require to send a text to a # to sign you in, is this something like those send a text to this # and for 4.99 per message you get , blah blah blah? dont want to use one of them like loop or any of those and then finding 300 in charges on the bill hehe..

    The apps are really free. However what they are trying to tell you is that there may be fees associated with your AT&T account for using them based on the conditions under which you use them. Using your buddy app for example, if you are on an AT&T plan that limits your number of text messages and sending that text message is for example exceeding your "included" text message allotment for that month, then you will be charged for that text message. Another example would be If the specific application that you are using requires internet connectivity and you are traveling out of the country accessing the internet through the cell service you will incur international data roaming charges. I think those are the types of fees that they are making you acknowledge.
    Other free apps for example like salesforce require that you have a specific type of license for the web application so while the iPhone app is free that doesn't mean you are getting the functionality of salesforce for free.

  • Is iphone 4 really free?

    Is iphone 4 really free?

    As Bob said, no iPhone is free. If you're looking at the US Apple Store and seeing that you can get an iPhone 4 at no cost up front, that is the subsidized price, available only when you sign a two-year contract from the cell carrier. Basically the cell carrier is advancing you the cost of the iPhone and you then pay them back through your monthly payments for the cell service.

  • Oracle Personal Edition - Free?

    OK, silly question...I just need someone to verify...is Personal Edition still free?
    Thanks

    No it is not and has, as far as I know, never been free.
    Maybe you should have a better look at the following "License Agreement terms":
    License Rights
    We grant you a nonexclusive, nontransferable limited license to use the programs only for the purpose of developing a single prototype of your application, and not for any other purpose. If you use the application you develop under this license for any internal data processing or for any commercial or production purposes, or you want to use the programs for any purpose other than as permitted under this agreement, you must contact us, or an Oracle reseller, to obtain the appropriate license. We may audit your use of the programs. Program documentation may accessed online at http://otn.oracle.com/docs.
    Ownership and Restrictions
    We retain all ownership and intellectual property rights in the programs. The programs may be installed on one computer only, and used by one person in the operating environment identified by us. You may make one copy of the programs for backup purposes.
    You may not:
    - use the programs for your own internal data processing or for any commercial or production purposes, or use the programs for any purpose except the development of a single prototype of your application;
    - use the application you develop with the programs for any internal data processing or commercial or production purposes without securing an appropriate license from us;
    - continue to develop your application after you have used it for any internal data processing, commercial or production purpose without securing an appropriate license from us, or an Oracle reseller;
    - remove or modify any program markings or any notice of our proprietary rights;
    - make the programs available in any manner to any third party;
    - use the programs to provide third party training;
    - assign this agreement or give or transfer the programs or an interest in them to another individual or entity;
    - cause or permit reverse engineering (unless required by law for interoperability), disassembly or decompilation of the programs;
    - disclose results of any program benchmark tests without our prior consent; or,
    - use any Oracle name, trademark or logo.

  • Is JDeveloper is really free software ?

    Hi all,
    Is JDeveloper is really a free software just downloading it?, or is like other IDEs free for educational and not comercial porpouses?
    thanks
    Lorenzo Jimenez

    JDeveloper is available for free download under the OTN license agreement. You can see the license before you download JDeveloper.
    The license agreement specifically let you know what you can do with it for free (basically everything except developing production applications).
    Unlike other Java development tools we are offering the complete verson with no time limit in this free download.
    If you are using it to develop production application you can license it for $995 which is way cheaper than any comparable Java IDE.

  • Which VOD programs are really "free"?

    I need more information on what is actually "free" (or more accurately, included).  I have the Ultimate package, so I have the premiums, and in fact just about everything anyone could want.  But I also got 2 DVRs, and I'm wondering if I even need them, what with VOD.  For example, if I want to catch up on "The Daily Show", is that included/free?  What about "Mad Men"?  If I want to catch up on the first 3 seasons, is that included/free?  I'm asking because when I look at "My rentals", it shows an episode of TDS that I watched yesterday, but I am showing no purchases.  Can anyone clarify this?

    Very hard to say.
    When browsing be sure to look at the group that says free.  And look at premium channels you subscribe to.
    But also make sure you have purchases locked with a password (its under parental controls).  That way you will get a warning if you searched or otherwise came upon a VOD that is not free, and select it thinking its free.

  • Free "trial" download, or really free

    Oracle announced that next month developers can download a free
    copy of the production version of JDeveloper 9i. Is this just a
    free "trial" version or a truly free version that allows
    unconstrained commercial use?

    It is supposed to allow free, unconstrained, non-commercial
    use. So you can evaluate it all you want, but--if you want to
    use it to build a commercial product--at some point you have to
    buy an iDS license.

  • Is "find my iPad" really Free?

    I recently enabled the "Find my iPad" feature on my new iPad, following the instructions on the Apple site. I activated it on my iPad by setting up a MobileMe email account, using my Apple Id. Now, I am being told by a friend with his own new iPad that by doing so, I must cancel the Mobile Me account within 60 days, or I will be charged $99. He claims that it is only a "free trial". I have scoured the Internet, trying to find out the truth about this, but am finding conflicting answers. If "Find my iPad" is truly free, how do I set it up and still ensure I am getting a free service?
    thanks for any guidance!
    ldardis

    I set up my iPad following Apple's instructions and am not being billed for MobileMe. But I didn't set up an account via the 90-day trial, so if you started there first, I would suggest you contact MobileMe support:
    https://expresslane.apple.com/Symptoms.do
    and ask if that trial account can be converted to the free Find My iPad account or if it will just continue to work if you cancel the trial. I suspect it will continue to work, but I don't know for sure. I know you can set things up with an expired/cancelled MM address:

  • Is iMovie really free on iOS 7 devices?

    I bought my iPad 2, near the end of May, last year and I recently found out that if you updated to iOS 7, you would get iMovie for free so I decided to upgrade it. When it finished upgrading, it wasn't for free. Many people say that once they upgrade their devices, Apple would ask them if they wanted the apps and they would just have to click the install all button but that didn't happen for me! I also found that iMovie was in the free chart but it still said $4.99.. Help please?!!

    The iWork apps are free with a new iOS device since 1 SEP 2013. They are free with a new Mac since 1 OCT 2013. They are also free with the upgrade to OS X Mavericks 10.9 if you had the previous version installed when you upgraded.
    iWork and iLife for Mac come free with every new Mac purchase. Existing users running Mavericks can update their apps for free from the Mac App Store℠. iWork and iLife for iOS are available for free from the App Store℠ for any new device running iOS 7, and are also available as free updates for existing users. GarageBand for Mac and iOS are free for all OS X Mavericks and iOS 7 users. Additional GarageBand instruments and sounds are available for a one-time in-app purchase of $4.99 for each platform.

  • Updating free apps. Really free?

    As a relative newcomer to the iPad, I want to make sure I understand the app store process. If I download a free game for instance - usually the lite version - when there is an update available - will I then be charged for the update? If I understand correctly, an UPGRADE would be something I have to pay for but not an update. Is this correct?
    I have recently read some horror stories about people downloading free games and the paying through the nose for items in games that downloaded for free. I do understand that some of the games offer in game purchases that you have to buy and you have to be careful as to what you are clicking on or agreeing to, I just want to make sure that an update to a free game or app is truly free. They say that they are but ....

    Just to clarify about the free games with paid components--those do not appear as updates, but as additional bits you can download from within the game. Nothing that appears in the app updates is charged for--if there is a paid version of a free game, or a new version that now costs, those will not appear as free updates in the app updates section, ever.
