Is Adobe's Basic Tutorial Broken?

I've installed Flex Builder 2, Data Services with Integrated
JRun, and gone through the sample applications which all work
beautifully (suggesting that everything installed correctly).
However, when I try to do the tutorials on creating FDS
applications such as
this
one, it doesn't work. I get an error on load, which I'll type
below. In the tutorial it has you create a destination in your
data-management-config.xml file which I've done and all looks fine
there. I've checked and rechecked and I can't figure out where I
could be going wrong. Does this error message mean anything to
anyone? Thanks.

Did you specify a --services command line configuration
parameter? Is it pointing to the correct services-config.xml file?
Do any of the channel endpoints use uris that have tokens in them?
If so, do you have a {context.root} token in there? If so, did you
specify --context-root=/yourcontextpath in the command line params
too? Did you try a clean rebuild after saving each change to the
configuration file to ensure the swf was recompiled?

I'm not necesarilly working with graphic design daily. However, I may have to replicate a design for a publication that uses Adobe Garamond Pro, which is why I got interested in Adobe - Fonts : Adobe Type Basics OpenType Edition.
However, before I shell out the cash, I'd like to ask a few questions about related EULA's and font licensing issues - as the last thing I want to do is buy something, and then end up sued/financially destroyed/imprisoned anyways. (which is why I prefer with open fonts & software - at least no worries about prison, in case of misunderstanding the legalese)
So, here are the questions:
I am a Linux user, and I primarily intent to use the fonts with xelatex. On the download page, there are two options: "Win" and "Mac". Which one should I choose? Related question: Adobe Forums: Install a Mac font on a PC:Windows can use OpenType, Windows Type1 and Windows TrueType fonts. Windows cannot directly read Mac TrueType or Mac Type1 fonts.

Adobe sells an OpenType edition of Adobe Type Basics, but this is a download-only product. I wish Adobe would sell the OpenType Edition on CD.... so just to make sure: I would definitely download the OpenType if I buy from the above Adobe - Fonts : Adobe Type Basics OpenType Edition link, right?
Re-download - the Adobe Type Basics page doesn't mention the file format of the download, nor its size. With bought fonts, I'd consider installing whatever I need for as long as project lasts, then deleting everything from my computer, since I don't like proprietary stuff sitting on it. Thus, I'd be interested in re-donwloading the Adobe Type Basics package. So is this package a zip file or similar, if so - how big is it? Can I download the file multiple times after purchase? I suggest you ask your customer to purchase the modern OpenType versions of the fonts. ... but then, Springer are "publishers", not "printers"? How worried should I be about this? Should I ask for confirmation in writing from them, that they own the particular embedded font? Then again, since in this case I'd be working for an academic institution as page layouter, should the academic institution also buy the font? If the academic institution already owns the font, am I legally obliged to own it as a page layouter (even if I'd use that font on the institutions computers with licensed fonts on them)? I'm pretty sure I'd be legally obliged to own it if I intend to prepare the layout on my own computer, is that correct?

Yes, the Adobe Type Basics Open Type Edition would provide you with OpenType versions of the fonts. Sorry that we don’t offer all the different fonts, font families and variations on CD-ROM, but it would be cost-prohibitive to make all those versions, and font software is relatively small compared to application software. That said, Our font EULA (End User License Agreement) which can be found at: http://www.adobe.com/type/browser/legal/pdfs/wf_EULA071111/EULA5seat_USEnglish07.11.11.htm l states: “2.5 Backup Copy. You may make a reasonable number of backup copies of the Software, provided your backup copies are not installed or used for other than archival purposes.” So you can make your own CD-ROM.

The file format is OpenType (CFF). I would recommend making a backup copy of these fonts if you don’t want to keep them on your system. Our Electronic Software Download service is not meant to be used for storage.

Wow! Lots of questions here. First of all, publishers publish. Printing is just one form of publishing. Embedding information for Adobe fonts can be found at the following:

If you send a file to a print service provider and send a copy of the font along as well, then the printer needs to own a valid copy themselves. If you send the print service provider a PDF version of the file, then you can embed the font in the PDF (but you would not send the a raw version of the font). In this case, the printer doesn’t need the font, because it is embedded in the document.

If you buy a license for Adobe Garamond Pro, you have up to 5 seats. So, it can be installed on a maximum of five computers at your company. It is that simple to be in compliance. If you were to obtain Adobe Garamond Pro by purchasing Adobe Type Basics OpenType Edition, then you can install the entire set on up to five computers at your company. You are licensing the set, and the fonts cannot be split up and used across multiple users at your company.

Yes. It is legal to send the document to a print service provider with the font embedded in PDF. You are printing a document, and your interpretation of what it means to “publish” or be a “publisher” is not relevant. The words don’t even appear in our EULA.

Re-downloading Adobe CreatePDF Basic

I recently purchased Adobe CreatePDF Basic. Unfortunately, my old computer crased days after downloading the program. I have been trying to download this program to the new computer and although it shows that I have purchased the program it will not allow me to download it.
Is there something that I can do... I was only able to use this program for a couple of weeks and really am upset that I paid $97.00 for something that I now am unable to use.

Need very basic tutorial on transparency

A bit of a novice on the topic of transparency so could use a
link to a basic tutorial. Specifically, I'm working on a Fireworks
graphic that will eventually end up on a site. The content is a
table with text. The color of the content is white and the
background on the site is black. I intend the background on the
image to be transparent.
When converting the png file to a gif I have played with the
options including index and alpha transparency and noticed the
matte feature.
This is the area of tutoring I could use (i.e. getting a
crisper transition between the image and the background). I'm also
curious how the anti-aliasing settings in FW relate.

The matte feature is precisely what gets the crisper

if the netConnection is in the process of connecting and startChat() gets called again, then the netConnection will not be null but will also not be connected. you can only get the nearID if the netConnection is connected.

You are not doing anything wrong. The January 2014 update of Photoshop CC added the option to embed OR link Smart Objects. Until this Photoshop CC update, Smart Objects were always embedded in the Photoshop document. Although it made the file size larger, it was like a built-in backup plan because any placed files were included in the document. Now you have the option of embedding or linking the Smart Object. Linking references the file rather than actually copying it to your current file. In terms of your small tutorial, choose Embed.

Where can I find a basic tutorial for the EOS rebel T4i?

I just recievecd my first DSLR and I'm looking for a video tutorial that will take me through the basics of how to use the camera. I feel like this is something that should have come with the camera, (Nikon includes 3 how-to discs) but it didn't and this website is not the most user friendly. Any suggestions?

Adobe store has been broken for more than two weeks (trying to download Flash Lite 2.0)

Maybe this is best classified as a 'departmental cross
post',... I have been trying to download a purchase of Flash Lite
2.0 for a Nokia N70 phone for two weeks now, but the online store
is broken.
Unfortunately I've spent over two hours on hold, accross
maybe four phone calls (repeating the problem, explaining that
although the order status says 'shipped', that it is a downloadable
product only), and still don't have the player.
Adobe: if you're listening, please: I need either an
alternate download link or a CD mailed to me for Flash Lite 2.0 for
a Nokia N70. The folks doing phone support ultimately always
suggest 'waiting for the store to be fixed', but I've waited two
weeks- I just want the darned player I paid for so I can complete
my mobile device project!

The problem occurs during installation.
At the first stage, short download installs the GetPlus
DLM (Download Manager). I can see it installed in
Settings --> Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs.
Then it leaves a shortcut with the Adobe icon in my Desktop
reading "Resume Adobe Downloads".
When I press it (shortcut to "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" AND ALSO TO "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\NOS\nosget_start_manager_15235.html")
the real download of the files should begin.
It just opens the downloading applet and before downloading anything
I am getting this "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem with the said add-on, and must close... Send notification/Do not send (you know)"
