  • Why does my ipod touch 4g do this when i plug my headphones in? (not your usual headphone question)

Can anybody help me out? I bough my Ipod Touch on December 26th at about 11 am. I took it home registered it all all of that stuff, downloaded some apps and put music onto it. I then proceeded to use my headphones with my ipod and everything worked fine. Then at about 9:30 pm i went to listen to my music once again and when i plugged in my headphones the weirdest thing happens. The screen changes to the black screen with the apple logo on it (like the one after you restart your ipod) but it also has a little (i would call it) buffering symbol (the circle made up of 12 individual lines) located at the bottom of the apple (Apple logo). That screen stays up for 5 seconds and then switches to my lock screen which stays up for only 1 second and then the cycle begins again. It never ends! I don't understand!!! I didn't even have it up and operating for 12 hours!! I am looking to see if anybody has any ideas about what to try. I have tried doing all of the below:
    - switching off the password lock
    -switching the lock to 'never'
    -restarting my ipod
-turning it off and then plugging in my headphones then turing the ipod back on
-started playing a song over the speaker and then plugged in the headphones
    -turned off all applicaitons etc.
    11
*** The headphones still work I can hear an alert sound through them as the screens change, and i have tried a multitued of different headphones with my ipod***
i am in the middle of downloading the latest version of itunes/software for my ipod because i am also trying to get imessages-- i was hoping that that would work to get it on there- and now i am hoping it works for my headphone problem (do you think it will) .
*** as soon as i unplug my headphones the ipod goes back to the lock screen, i unlock it, and it works normally (even if i dont have the lock screen/password turned on)
please please please please help This is my first ipod touch and i have no idea how to solve this problem
**ps if you can tell me how to get imessages that would be awesome too

Not an expert, but plug it into your computer.  If it comes up hit sync.  Unplug it and see if it works, if not, plug in again and hit reset (I don't have the screen in front of me, but I know you get a main screen on iTunes you get an opption to upgrade or reset.)  When you reset it's kind of like nuking and paving.  It will erase your internal memory completely and reinstall everything on it.  Make sure you have updated your computer using software update first.  It takes a while, but that should fix it.

  • High pitch ringing sound when i plug my headphones in.

    Hi
I am currently using a Macbook Pro 15" retina display
There has been no problems previously. Out of no where, today my headphones has this high pitched ringing sound whenever i plug it in.
The audio is fine when I do not use any headphones. but when i plug them in, there is a ringing sound. This is happens as well when i plug in other headphones I have.
I have tried going to Sound under System Preferences and adjusting the stuff there but nothing seems to work.
This ringing sound makes listening to anything unbearable.
    Please help

There is a micro switch inside the socket to switch between the optical output (digtal), headphones and internal speakers. It sometimes gets stuck.
Push the headphone plug into the socket numereous times and see if it frees the switch. Please do not push other foreigh objects into the socket as you may break the switch and/or the electrical contacts.

  • IPod stopped sync. just sync when you plug another USB device, e.g pendrive

As weird as it may seem all my iPods (i have 2 old Nanos, 2 new Nanos, one Shuffle and one Touch)stopped syncing. iTunes recognizes them without a problem. I can configure them to sync to a particular playlist but nothing really happens.
After a lot a work (plugged them in another PC to have 'em erased and all; reinstalled iTunes 9, etc) I just found out the strangest behavior: if I click Sync it takes a long time and nothing really happens. If I do it again anfd plug another USB device (like a pendrive) then sync goes smoothly.
Not sure why.. all I know is that I love the hardware but hate the software.
Maybe if I reinstall my PC the issue will go away...
    Any ideas???

It's probably not a problem with the shuffle.  Your computer's USB bus may not be providing enough power for all of your connected USB devices.  A typical USB mouse and keyboard are low-power devices, so you must have other devices connected...?  An iPod, because it charges battery from the USB port, is a high-power device.
I use a powered USB hub.  The hub has its own power supply.  I have the hub connected to the computer, and most of my devices, like iPods, iPhone, flash drives, etc. connect to the hub.  I use the USB ports on the computer for things I leave connected more or less permanently, such as printer and external drive.
Since the hub has its own power supply, devices connected to it do not draw power from the computer's USB bus.  So that is important.  Some cheaper USB hubs are not self-powered; they are powered by the computer's USB port.  I use an older version of this one
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/USB2HB7PRO/
but there are many options.  Just get one that has its own power supply.

  • My speakers are not playing sound. Also no sound when I plug in headphones.

This just started happening today. I bought this computer less than a month ago. I haven't dropped it, spilled anything on it or done anything damaging to it. All of a sudden no sound came through when I tried playing music. I checked EVERYTHING and nothing was on mute or at a low level of volume. I'm really frustrated by this and would appreciate some help! Also the sound doesn't work even if I plug head phones in. Thanks

  • 5g ipod nano 8GB no sound through ear buds or headphone jack only when docked.

5g ipod nano 8GB no sound through ear buds or headphone jack only when docked. any suggestions? i don't want to replace any of the parts inside if at all possible.
I have a 5th generation 8GB iPod nano. I bout it off of eBay in May of 2010 and it has worked great until now (Apr 2011). The 5th gen plays music through the headphone jack even when no ear buds are plugged in. I was using it one day and it just stopped. I tried resetting it manually and automatically and I tried reinstalling iTunes. Nothing has worked. Now it won't even play sound though the ear buds (or the aux hook up in my car), only when it is docked to my iHome. Does anyone have any suggestions? I dont want to replace the iPod or any parts inside if at all possible. ANY SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOMED! THANKS!

Headphone jacks are only good for so many in and out usages.  Usually its the headphone jack itsefl that goes bad first but sometimes it is the internal part.  If you are lucky you can clean out the inside and get it to work.
These devices are not made to last for someone who actually has those headphones around there neck and acually uses there listening devices through out the day plugging it in and out.  This is not in any way an Apple thing, it is a problem with many devices.  The male ends tend to get dirty hanging around then scratch the female end when used.  In fact, using higher end headphones you can really notice even the smallest particles of dust on the male end of plug when used, that is the small popping you might notice when the cord moves.
Hopefully its a problem on the male side of things.
I would recommend a person that wants to use headphones alot to keep a small 2 inch extension plugged into there device that can be replaced when it goes bad inplace of wearing out the original plug.
Again, this is not an Apple problem alone.

  • My iPhone 3GS is making a wired sound when it virbrates

It's making a wired sound when it virbrates and I don't live anywhere close to a apple store and I can't afford to upgrade or buy a new ones so please can you jalap me to fix this without buying anything? Thanks will

Try resetting your iPod while it's unplugged from your computer by holding Menu and Select at the same time for approx. 8 seconds. Then plug back in and see what happens. If the problem persits, reset your iPod WHILE it's plugged in.

  • Qosmio G20: Fan is making a clunky sound when it turns around

    Hey everybody,
Another problem, but not Vista related! Although that's still a problem!
My exhaust fan is making a clunky sound when it turns around. I hear it going round and round like a rachetty sound, and then at other times its fine.
    Anyone had this?
Should I open her up and give it a clean?

    Hi tay,
right now i do not have the time for this.
If you can wait some time, i will take some pictures and show you exactly which screws you must take off your Qosmio to disassemble it.
You must take care with this job, otherway you can damage the motherboard.
Advice: Do not adventure yourself on an unknown way, it is dangerous.
In meantime, you can check it out how "hot"(not hot as you know...)your Qosmio is.
Download the Everest ultimate 2006 edition V 3.50.761, look for it with Google search.
Run it and see the temperatures for CPU, Processor and motherboard on your Qosmio:
    See:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmioeverest.jpg
Run the System stability test (find it under tools menu) for 10 minutes aprox.
Watch the temperatures at taskar and please report this to me. If it reachs more than 95C for the processor on stress mode, its time to clean the heatsink and all essential parts of your Qosmio. Attempt to the processor fan RPM, too, if they run fast and noisy, you really must perform a clean.
But it depends on the ambient environment, for a 27C summer day the processor temperature almost get the 90C. this is normal in stress mode. An the fans run without noise. Slow RPM mode.
All measured in Celsius degrees, for Farenheith please convert it.
See, I am here, on a typical summer day, 30C right now ,16:40min ,sunday afternoon
My Qosmio in stress mode is under 91C for the processor, 61C for the motherboard and the fans are quietly. No noise at all. This is perfectly normal for the g20
    See:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmioeverest1.jpg
PS: thank you for the reward point, very kind of you.

    Hey there Srkupo,
It sounds like your vocal audio is not working with your headphones connected to your iPhone. I would start with the troubleshooting from the following article to help troubleshoot them named:
Resolve issues with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch accessories
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2634
    Update your software
Install the latest version of iOS. You can see which version is on your iPhone by going to the About screen.
If the device doesn't update successfully, the issue might be with your device and not the accessory. Learn how to check your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Disconnect and inspect the accessory, then restart your device
Disconnect the accessory and turn it off, if possible.
Inspect the connection between the accessory and device and make sure that no debris or other damage is present.
Restart your iOS device by turning it off, then back on. When the Home screen appears, reconnect the accessory.
    Try a different device
Make sure the issue is with the accessory, if possible. Always use an identical or similar, compatible device with the accessory you're troubleshooting.
If there's static coming from the left audio channel when you use headphones, try connecting the headphones to a similar device.
If the device isn't syncing when connected to the dock, connect it directly to the computer using the Apple 30-pin to USB Cable or try another USB port.
If you're using Lightning to 30-pin Adapter in a connection chain, try using the same adapter on a similar or identical device.
Restore iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Restore your iOS device. You should rarely need to use this step with an accessory issue. If the issue only affects a third-party accessory, contact the manufacturer before restoring the device.
If this does not resolve the issue could you elaborate on where you are listening to this content from to help isolate the issue?
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • My old 1st gen ipod touch wont turn on and makes a clicking sound when I plug it in.

My old 1st gen ipod touch wont turn on and makes a clicking sound when I plug it in. The ipod doesnt turn on when I plug it into the wall, even if I let it charge, and itunes won't recognize it. I have tried to reset it with the home and power buttons. Whats wrong and how can I fix it? I think it might be the memory or the battery. What could the clicking sound be related to? Thanks

Try placing the iPod in recovery mode and then try restoring the iPod.  For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
After that I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • I have a new ipod nano 7th Generation.  When I plug in the earphones, there is no sound, althought ipod shows song is playing.  Any solutions?

I have a new Ipod Nano 7th Generation.  When I plug the earphones in, there is no sound coming from the earphones, even thought the Ipod shows the song as playing.  Any solutions?

And the Radio app probably doesn't work either.
The headphone jack on the nano is very tight when new. Push the jack all the way in, the plastic on the headset jack should be flush with the body of the nano.

I am getting no sound on my macbook pro. The sound does not play when I plug in headphones either.  I have tried making it louder quieter, restarting my computer, HELP!

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. If your model has an audio-out (headphone) port, and anything is plugged in, unplug it before putting the system to sleep.
    3. If you've installed something called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and reboot. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. If you've installed an equalizer called "Boom" or anything similar, update or delete it and reboot.
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select the Output tab. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them. Move the Volume sliders all the way to the right.
    7. If a red light is coming from the audio-out port, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Reboot and test.
    9. Boot in safe mode. Don't log in; just reboot as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    10. Reset the NVRAM.
    11. Reset the SMC.
    12. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data. For a possible shortcut, see this thread.
    13. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.
