Is dreamweaver cs4 the most up to date program at the moment

Im new to dreamweaver, I have heard of dreamweaver 5, but i am doing a course in cs4. which version is the latest and most up to date of dream weaver.

Dreamweaver CS5 is actually Dreamweaver version 11. If you are taking a course in CS4 (version 10), stick with it. the improvements in CS5 will be pretty easy to learn and adopt once you have the older version down.
Here are some differences:
Split view, which is what I always work in, splits the page display vertically by default. Split view shows you the HTML (and other) code in one window while it displays the rendered page in another. Understand that page rendering in the Dreamweaver engine is always at variance with page rendering in a browser and you should check your work in a browser before committing. In the version you are learning, the split view is vertical by default, so you see your page code just above the displayed page, unless you change that setting.
CS5 has a CS live button lets people with an Adobe account look at their web pages in the Adobe Browser Lab. If you are working on a Mac, it may let you see your web pages in a rendering engine that mimics Microsoft's Internet Exploder, which is a browser that does not run under OS X. It's another way to check your work.
Adobe's Business Catalyst is another addition, allowing you to create online stores. I have a Dreamweaver extension that does this, so it's not that big a deal for me.
There is an improvement in the CSS styles tab, letting you see your styles a little better. I use Firebug in Firefox to do this and having it integrated in Dreamweaver is a good idea.
If you are hand-coding your website, the code-hinting tools are improved. If you plan to use HTML5, there is a pack you can download from Adobe that will properly hint HTML5 code as well as integrate HTML5 into Dreamweaver. This does not work with earlier versions of Dreamweaver but I'm pretty sure someone will release an extension for older versions of Dreamweaver to do this.
Summary:
These are helpful additions to Dreamweaver 11, but they're not light years ahead of Dreamweaver 10. If you are just beginning, you'll find the task of learning Dreamweaver will keep you busy no matter which version you are learning on. I am quite productive on CS3 (version 9) and plan to upgrade when I have the time and space to do so, but the upgrade is not free, so I am taking my time. CS5 is the most up-to-date version and, if you have to be the first on your block with the most up-to-date application, then you should upgrade. But it will take time for the new tutorials to come out for the new version and it's not so much an advancement that you cannot pick up the changes by upgrading later.

  • Keeping the Video Clip Controller Bar in Dreamweaver CS4

    Hello Everyone-
    Here is my question:
I created on quicktime video on iMovie '08. You know the controller bar at the bottom of the video with the pause and forward arrow, etc. Well, it shows up on the quicktime video. However, and here's the problem, when I uploaded the video onto Dreamweaver cs4, the video uploads but NOT the controller bar so there is no way of stopping or playing it on the website. I've searched tons of solutions online but cannot find one that works.
Any info about solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
I did a search of these forums for " premiere pro cs4 avchd problems " and got quite a few threads ( posts ) to read ...
apparently cs5 handles avchd better than cs4.  maybe you could provide some basic info about your computer specs and I think Jim Simon knows a LOT about avchd and cs4....now that youve posted what camera you have maybe he can help you out....
typically you would match your sequence settings with the asset you are using...
I think the latest patch to cs4 works better than the version out of the box...
good luck...sorry that I have no experience with avchd or your camera

  • Footer displayed inaccurately in Dreamweaver CS4 php page

    Hi,
I recently upgraded from Dreamweaver 8 to Dreamweaver CS4. Our organization site uses mostly php pages. When I attempt to open these pages in Dreamweaver CS4 the footer menu bar displays innacurately down through the center of the page and won't allow any edits as it acts like a top layer or something. Usually it acts as a menu bar on the top of any page on our website.
As it should appear from an online screen shot: You'll notice the orange menu bar across the top.
A shot of the Design View in Dreamweaver CS4:  You'll see the menu options are running down the center of the page as text.

The live view or preview functions do not work and lead to the error: "Not Found, the requested URL/html/index.php was not found on this server.'   This is another issue that I don't understand.
Unfortunately, I did not develop this website and have a minimal knowledge of html and Dreamweaver.  I'm not sure if I can answer the question about which menu system we're using - would seeing the code of the footer help?   I'll paste below in case.
And just to be clear, the problem only occurs in editing in Dreamweaver, but when uploaded to our server it appears correctly.
    Thanks for your help!

  • CourseBuilder for Adobe Dreamweaver CS4

I posted this question in the Dreamweaver Extensions Forum; but wonder if it should also be posted in a more general location. Please excuse this cross posting.
In CourseBuilder Help > Getting Started > Learning CourseBuilder for Dreamweaver:
    \Application Data\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS4\en_US\Configuration\CourseBuilder\Help\ContextHelp.htm
    I find:
"Learning CourseBuilder for Adobe Dreamweaver CS4"
"The CourseBuilder for Dreamweaver CS4 package contains a variety of resources to help you learn the program quickly and become proficient in creating your own Web page interactions."
"These resources include online help pages that appear in your browser, a tutorial, and a printed book."
Where is this printed book to be found?
"In addition, the CourseBuilder for Dreamweaver CS4 Support Center site is updated regularly."
What is the URL of this site?
I'm am very pleased to see CourseBuilder updated for Dreamweaver CS4, but can only find it included with the eLearning Suite.
Is it also available else where?
I would appreciate any help anyone can give,
    Thank you,
    David J. Hark
    [email protected]

I'm a little frustrated too. I have the web premium suite of CS4 products and I very much need to publish my dreamweaver course in a SCORM package. I also need to use the interactions etc. available in Coursebuilder. It doesn't seem right that I have paid a lot of money for the web premium package but can't get coursebuilder. The coursebuilder version that works in dreamweaver 8 doesn't work in cs4.
RapidIntake has the coursebuilder version for dreamweaver 8 but they don't have one for cs4.
Is there no solution to this problem other than buying the eLearning suite?

  • Dreamweaver CS4 Stalls at Welcome Screen

When you open Dreamweaver CS4, the Welcome Screen never show up.  You can still work in it, but I have a user who really likes the Welcome Screen.  I have had this issue with Windows 7 in both 64 and 32 bit.  Please advise.

Edit>Preferences>general tab   Check the box that reads "Show Welcome Screen".

  • How to alphabetize file names in Dreamweaver CS4 files panel?

Using Dreamweaver CS4, the files in the file panel are no longer alphabetized by name as they have been in all previous versions. This is very frustrating when you have many files and have to scan with your eyes to find various files on an ongoing basis.
Does anyone know WHY the developers changed this or where I can change the preferences for this?
Thanks in advanceof your help : )

I feel silly . I found the answer to my problem in another thread. Clicking the 'Local Files' heading at the top of the files column changes the order. As posted by a user named Alex in another thread, with an image to illustrate where to click:
Click on the column header highlighted in light blue.

  • GoLive to Dreamweaver CS4 - Rollovers

I have recently moved to Dreamweaver CS4 from GoLive and I'm trying to figure out how to make a rollover. In the site created in GoLive, it was a rollover object where you would have your original image and a second image when moused over and the second image could have a link connected to it. How do I go about setting this up and what is it called in Dreamweaver? I have the book, "Dreamweaver CS4, The Missing Manual" and I'm not sure what to look for. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Getting Data From MySQL Database using Dreamweaver CS4 Built In Functions

    Hi,
I am really in need of some help if you don't mind.
I basically have a website with user regsitration system etc and so on.
I basically connected to my Data Base in Dreamweaver CS4 and now want to use the tools in Dremweaver CS4 to display Data from database.
Problem is i see the tools but not really sure how i use them. I see on Data bar all the tools to view, update delete records etc.
I basically created a page where i want to display all the records in the DB. I done this using dynamic data selecting what fields to display etc and 15 records per page.
When i view the page in localhost thou it is only showing 1 record althou i have like 5 users in my test db.
So if anyone can really tell me how i go about displaying data from db that be great. When i learn how to do that i probably will understand and learn how to update records etc.
    Thanks

To display all records, you need to apply a repeat region to the paragraph, div, or table row that contains the dynamic text objects for the database results. You might also find it helpful to follow the dynamic application tutorial in the Adobe Developer Connection.

  • Where are the Spry Javascript files located in Dreamweaver CS4?

I am sure this is a trivial question but I cannot find them.
The Adobe Web site states that Dreamweaver CS4 ships with Spry 1.6. I am trying to create a SpryNestXMLDataSet, but cannot find where the js file is stored, to copy it to my site. I do not see anything in the insert Spry data set wizard that allows me to create a nested XML data set. Thus, I can get Dreamweaver to add the xpath.js and the SpryData.js files, but I cannot figure out how to add the SpryNestXMLDataSet.js file, nor find a copy within the Dreamweaver program files.
    Thanks,
    Van

    Hello Van,
Dreamweaver only includes the Spry files that can be configured using
the DW GUI. As there isn't a nested XML configurator yet, its not
    included in dreamweaver.
On Mac you can find the Spry files here: /Applications/Adobe
    Dreamweaver CS4/configuration/Shared/Spry/
On Windows its probably something like c:/program files/adobe/
    dreamweaver cs4/configuration/shared/spry/ But i don't own a windows
    pc so I cant tell

  • Can't see Remote data in Dreamweaver CS4

I have a site that I have had for years and recently changed from a real old version of Dreamweaver to Dreamweaver CS4.  I had trouble getting my FTP to work so I used an external program to move the files.  The files have been uploaded and the site is active on the Internet so I know there are there.
When I use Dreamweaver, the only thing I can see is the "/" that represents the root folder.  All the site definitions say that it can connect to my server, it just does not show the files.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks, Fred

    Hi,
here I'll quote a hint from Nancy O. for DW applications:
Try toggling Passive and/or Secure FTP on/off.
Your web host might have changed upload requirements to improve security.
Another thing to check is your Anti-virus and Firewall settings. If they are too restrictive, DW may not have permission to connect to the remote server.

  • Can't see the widget in Live view in Dreamweaver CS4 for Mac

    Hi
    Following this example in http://www.truveo.com/Web-Widgets-in-Dreamweaver-CS4/id/180144024212823976
from Scott Fegette to place a YUI Calendar inside a project in Dreamweaver CS4. I see that Scott after placing the YUI_Calendar.mxp they got the calendar in Live view mode and I can't do the same, can't see in Live View, only a blank page.
I follow all the Scott's instructions correctly because the code is there and I can see the calendar in the browser but not in Live View... If I turn off the Live View then can see the YUI Calendar in Design View only (a light blue tag named YUI_calendar).
    I'm under Mac OS X 10.5.6.
Can you help me to see the YUI Calendar in Live View?
    Thanks.
    Tom

Thanks for the reply with additional information.
Recent history for Premiere Elements points to the program having problems when more than 1 video card/graphics card is
being used by the computer on which Premiere Elements is running. This observation may seem contra indicated by the fact
that you say that the program did work well about 2 years ago in the same setup. But other factors may have set in with regard
to drivers, drivers versions, and driver conflicts. But this factor, does need to be ruled in or out.
Can you disable one or the other card to determine the impact of this on your problem?
But, of prime concern with regard to video card/graphics card is the use of a NVIDIA GeForce card with Premiere Elements 10.
Even if your NVIDIA GeForce were the only card, Premiere Elements 10 will not work properly unless the NVIDIA GeForce driver
version is rolled back to about May 2013. This may be one of the major factors here.
    a. Device Manager/Display Adapters and find out Driver Version and Driver Date
    b. Read the background information for the Premiere Elements 10/NVIDIA GeForce issue
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE10: NVIDIA Video Card Driver Roll Back
Also see the Announcement at the top of this forum regarding the matter - also with full details of the situation and how to fix with the
    driver version roll back.
Please review and consider and then we can decide what next.
    Thanks.

Add On...This NVIDIA GeForce situation is specific for Premiere Elements 10. You should not expect to see the problem for
    later versions of Premiere Elements.

iOS 7 devices need iTunes 11.1 or newer to sync.  Depending upon your computer and the OS it is running, you may not be able to upgrade to iTunes 11.1 based on the requirements for iTunes 11.1.  What computer and OS are you running your iTunes on?  From the iTunes download pages I see the requiorements are:
    Macintosh System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core processor
OS X version 10.6.8 or later
    400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store
    Windows System Requirements
PC with a 1GHz Intel or AMD processor and 512MB of RAM
Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later, 32-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
64-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 require the iTunes 64-bit installer
    400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store
