Is it possible somehow to repair a damaged DVD?

For example, skipping the damaged area or the like. I can not copy one older DVD.

Is this in a playback mode or in a file copy mode?
The short answer is, if your computer can not read the disk, try another computer/drive. If other drives can't read it, the bits are gone.
In the "for what it's worth" vein, optical media (CD, DVD) that has been written by a computer's burner is a very vulnerable and transitory media. The longevity of the media is totally dependent on the quality of the disk as well as the depth of the burn. Suffice it to say that it is not an archival media - particularly when people use the least expensive discs they picked up at Staples.
Replicated disks (pressed) are a complelety different technology/media.

  • Is it possible to repair a damaged file which turned into a black background layer?

I was working on a file about 4 hours and i was saving every 10 mins, then suddenly the power cut off and i opened the file and found it a black background layer.
    Is there any solution?

If you were saving the file every ten minutes, then a power-outage would not make you lose anything more that what happened since the last save. It is possible that the file was damaged on the hard drive by the power-outage and it has nothing to do with Photoshop at all.
I do want to point out that Photoshop does not have an auto-save function. There is an Auto-recovery function which will create a sort of back-up of your file every 10 minutes (default setting). This is not simply a copy of your file, nor is it saving over you original file. Instead, this is a special version of the file that is intended to open in Photoshop after a crash. However, the power-outage may have damaged this file (as described above).
Check the file size, if it is very small, that would tell us there is no image information in it to recover. We could always take a look. But if it opens in Photoshop without error, it sounds like the file is fine but doesn't have any changes from when it was nothing but the black background.

  • Specialists that repair water damaged iPhones in the UK

My iPhone4 survived being in the washing machine ( !!). Worked when I pulled it out after 10m inside. I left it to dry for two weeks with silica gel. Continued to work for nine months.
Then I went running. It started to rain so I slipped the iPhone up my sleeve... where sweat appears to have been wicked from my skin into the iPhone via my running top. Result: after two weeks drying out the screen had clear imperfections and damage although everything appeared to work. A month later: the screen backlight failed and wouldn't revive. I suspect salt has damaged the screen.
What it needs is a complete clean and probably a new screen.
Other than Apple, where in the UK repairs liquid damaged iPhones? I'd like to go for a firm that specialises so they do a full clean of the insides -- to reduce the chance of more damage happening later due to salt corrosion -- as well as replacing the obviously currently damaged screen components.
    Suggestions?
    All appreciated. thx.

  • Repairing a damaged G5 Power Mac

Just yesterday I attempted to boot up my Power Mac, but recieved no startup "chime" and no apple emblem on my monitor. In fact, the computer didn't seem to boot at all. The power supply seemed to be working fine; everything looked like it was running normally inside the machine. Firguring it might be an issue with the motherboard, I scouted on some forums and figured out that if you open the computer case and press onto the bottom bank of RAM near the heat sink, you can get the thing to boot. It worked perfectly, but I know this is merely a short-term solution to the larger problem. How would I go about repairing this? I figure it's either an issue with the ram itself or with the motherboard, but have no way of telling because I can't even get the heat sink out.
In short, can anyone tell me A) How to disassemble the Power Mac and
                                             B) how to repair the damage on either the RAM or the motherboard.

No, the RAM was not loose, otherwise the Mac would boot every time without problems. I believe there is damage to the mother board where the RAM is. When you apply pressure to the area these things tend to right themselves. Every time I want the machine to boot at all I am forced to push on the bottom RAM slot.

  • Is it possible to boot from a shared dvd or disk image remotely

Is it possible to boot from a shared dvd or disk image remotely without using netboot for install or utility?

All Apple Remote Desktop can do is point a system to a startup disk; it has no facility for providing a boot image. So you may want to ask this question in the Mac OS X or Mac OS X Server forums. You'll be more likely to get suggestions there, though other than NetBoot I know of no way to boot a group of computers from a single disk image or DVD.

  • Every time I want to download an app From AppStore when I start downloading it after I write my password there is warning that says to me that it isn't possible right now to download power DVD mobile even now were this app is deleted from my ipad

Every time I want to download an app From AppStore when I start downloading it after I write my password there is warning that says to me that it isn't possible right now to download power DVD mobile even now were this app is deleted from my ipad

The power DVD app is active, and seems to download ok.  You have already deleted the app?
I suspect what is happeneing is that a download is in your queue, and is blocking the queue until it completes, thus the message every time you try to do a down load.  It may be failing because while it thinks you have the app, it is not finding it, and doesn't know what to do.  ( sounds like a poorly designed download).
I think the way around this might be for you to resync with your iTunes, and let it reload the app onto your pad.  Let it complete the download.  Then, if you do not want the app, delete it again from your pad, and if you never want it, from I tunes as well.
The next time they do an update, you may wind up in the same situation, so if it happens again, until they fix the download routine, you will get stuck again.
So try the suggestion, and see if this clears it out.
The other option would be to open your account in I tunes on your computer, let it complete the download there.

  • Is it possible to locate the CD or DVD drive

I was wondering whether it was possible to s it possible to locate the CD or DVD drive with Labview.
My application kinda needs to copy files off the cd drive onto the computer but i don't know how to locate the cd drive
    thanks

I'll add some more information about our problem.  We would like to detect if a particular drive letter is a CD or DVD drive.  The functionality should be similar to the following DriveInfo member in C#.
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.io.driveinfo.drivetype.aspx
It can tell if a drive letter is a CDrom, Fixed, Network, Removable, Unknown, etc... drive.
I have searched the Advanced File VIs and Function for suitable functions and the GetVolumeData VI is very close (and we could probably detect drives with no free space).  However, I wonder if there are any other VIs that can help.
    Another example is the following:

Sorry, but you're apparently not understanding what I'm asking. Is the DVD to which you're trying to burn the files one that already has other videos (or any other files) on it? Or is the DVD blank?

  • How to repair/open damaged .nef files on mac?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place...
I am using my sisters Apple refurb Mac Air, OSX 10.8.4
    Camera is a Nikon D3100
There are around 3000 pictures. Basically I made the mistake of using a crappy card reader to open my files on her computer. A zeikos one. Periodically, it would eject itself, and eventually it corrupted all 3000, some jpg pics included. I ran applexsoft SD Card Recovery and managed to recover all 3000 pictures after a couple of tries. I could see the pictures on the preview, with the watermark, and they went into the recovered file folder. I checked the file sizes and most average between 10-15 mb. Now they wont open in preview or iPhoto, saying it is unrecognizable or damaged, and does the same for the .jpgs. I have opened .nef pictures on her computer before. It's been a while since I have had a mac so I am a little fuzzy on what is supported or not. What I am wondering is:
If the preview on the recovery tool shows the pictures, is it likely that these files are salvageable?
How can I view them and what program is best?
Most of these pictures are not valuable, I only need a select number, so if I can't get all of them, would it be possible to select only the ones that I need with a particular program?
If they are indeed damaged, how can I repair them?
I've downloaded something called Stellar Mac Photo Recovery, but I don't want to run anything until I get some info...
I can't keep too much data on here, so the smallest effective program would be best...
To clarify, the pictures are currently on the laptop, not the SD card. Though they're still technically on the SD card, I am asking for help to repair the files on the computer.
Please help... I wish I could have backed these up periodically, and usually I download the most important pictures to my iPad and upload them to an img host, but I lost my iPad card reader. I'd really appreciate any help! Thank you (:

Only if you export them in the correct format.
If you just save them they will be in the Apple format which will not work on the PC.

  • How to repair a damaged jpg file in iphoto Library

I hace some damaged jpegs in my iphoto Library which i want to repair. I've used stellar software but no results.
does anyone know a really good tool to repair jpegs?

    civil engineering wrote:
You 're wright, i didn't provide you details how the matter occurred and what kind of damage there is.
So i give you the link of another discussion i've opened to look at.
    Mac Pro 3.1 os 10.8.5
iphoto 11 problem with showing up some photos
In your other post, you indicated that
"The whole matter occurred after disk defragmentation with Tech Tools pro 7 or Drive Genius 3, I don't remember which of them i used to the disk that iLibrary exists … Also disk warrior reports that "Detected that the resource header is damaged and cannot be repaired!" "
The jpeg repair tool you were using can sometimes recover a photo file if several pixels are missing. Typically the photo is recovered with some black portions corresponding to those missing pixels, probably not optimal but better than nothing.
Unfortunately, your mention of "defragmentation" in connection with the corrupted files is alarming to me. Files on a computer are not stored in one single place, they are typically stored in pieces all over the physical disk. The file catalog provides a map that the computer uses to put these pieces back together when you, say, view a photo. Defragmentation is almost never required for a modern Mac, and if one exercises a defragmentation tool on a system that has a few small directory or catalog problems (caused maybe by a computer freeze or a forced restart), those can become magnified as all the myriad file pieces are moved around ("defragmentation" tries to unify as many of those pieces as possible by physically moving them around on the disk). Which is why making an archive backup is always necessary before defragmentation -- but disk defragmentation is not needed anymore with modern operating systems, I wonder why you would use such a tool as the benefits are small or nonexistent but the potential to greatly magnify a small issue into a big problem is significant.
Well, that's history now, but you can perhaps try a few of the other jpeg fixing tools that are commercially available. Also, try opening the problem jpegs with some other programs, such as Adobe Photoshop or other software. I fear that your corrupted jpegs are really a symptom of more systemic directory or disk problems. I would (a) back up everything securely [two backups is extra safe], and then (b) run your Apple hardware test suite to test your hardware as a failing hard disk and/or memory can lead to such unfixable file corruption, and if (b) shows everything is ok, then (c) run Disk Warrior to try to detect and repair whatever directory corruption exists. The jpegs may not be fixable, they may be missing essential file components, sort of like losing the first 20 pages and last 20 pages of a 200 page novel plus getting the chapters out of order and losing the chapter numbers, you might never be able to figure out the story in the novel if those pages cannot be found and the right chapter order cannot be determined.

  • Broken Ipod... Possible support or repairs?

Ok, I've had my 5G Ipod since April 14th (my first Ipod). Today I was playing basketball (I regret it now) and someone pulled on the earbud wire (it was under my shirt, so they managed to yank on it in the space between my shirt and my pocket) and it fell on the floor. So you don't think I'm a complete idiot, I must add we were supposed to be just casually shooting baskets, not anything that should've knocked my Ipod out. Stupid kid.. anyway, so it fell on the floor. Everything seemed ok until I went to Kmart to get a few things. Randomly when I would walk, everytime I would take a step with the foot opposite to the pocket I had my ipod in (complicated huh..)It would kinda cut out, but not completely and make this weird sound. At first I thought it was the earbuds, but I tried wiggling, pushing slightly, unpluging, and every kind of manipulation I could think of. So I start walking again, it's fine for a while, then it started doing it again, same step and everything.
I was wondering, first of all, if i might not be broken. Maybe some sort of electronic interference, although I highly doubt it, wishful thinking. If it is broken, what kind of warranty/garuntee does my Ipod come with, and does it even cover stuff like that? If not, can I get it repaired or will I have to buy a whole new Ipod? Anyway, any input will be appreciated. I'm so depressed about messing my Ipod up.

My dear friend in Utah. More than likely, if after trying a different set of ear phones the problem persists, your IPOD more than likely suffered an internal fracture after hitting the ground. The only way to truely know the extent of the damage is to of course send the IPOD into Apple after requesting a shipping box, or send it into another repair location. A google search will turn up a few that are reputable. Yes in hindsight, not good to play any sport with an expensive and fragile item. Life turns out that way however, when we don't consider all the possibilities that could happen from our decisions. If sent into to Apple, the repair tech will determine by examination, including any physical damage to the case if the repair will be covered. Nine times out of ten it won't be covered, termed misuse or abuse. As I am sure you are upset about the possible damage to your IPOD, move on and get on with the next part of your life. There will be plenty of times in life that you'll be faced with a bad decision you made. Your heart and mind grow stronger by overcoming these times. First step is to get the IPOD checked out! Good luck and stay positive.....

  • How long does it take to repair a damaged cable?

I am wondering if anyone reading this can advise me. I'm sorry if it's a long read. Grab a brew and a biscuit
My partner and I live in a small cottage adjacent to a working farm in Wales. For the third year running, the farmer has ploughed the field that our telephone line is buried in and in doing so, has cut through our line leaving us with no land line phone or Internet access.
Unfortunately although the farmer is apologetic about the inconvenience this causes us, he is also fairly unrepentant; the line has been laid in the middle of a working field and he says that it is simply not buried deep enough to avoid being damaged by the machinery. The field is part of his livelihood and the ploughing is a necessary part of that.
Until quite recently we had a BT Business line and on the two previous occasions that this happened, they sent along an engineer and the line was repaired between 24 and 48 hours after we logged the problem.
This year we no longer have the Business line. We phoned in the fault to the call centre on Friday 23/3. We were told that the fulfilment date would be within 3 working days (Wednesday 28th) but in actual fact would probably be sooner. This sounded fairly reasonable. At this point we thought we would get the promised status updates via SMS.
On Saturday at 2pm an Openreach engineer turned up at the door, which is fairly impressive on the face of it. However, in spite of the fact that we had already identified the fault, he spent five minutes or so inspecting the box that the line runs into at the back of the house. For some reason he then cut the line where it enters the box with a pair of wire cutters, before announcing his conclusion that the problem was a break in the line somewhere off the premises (which we already knew and reported as such when we phoned in the fault).
He claimed he did not have the equipment to fix it in his van and would be back on Monday.
Monday came and went with no sign of an engineer. On Tuesday morning at around 11am he turned up with another engineer. They set up some equipment at the back of the house and disappeared into the field at the side with a device that looked somewhat like a metal detector. Ten or fifteen minutes later they returned and put the equipment back in their van. We thought they would tell us what was happening but they just got in the van and drove away.
During this period we have not been updated at all with the status of our fault. On Tuesday evening I contacted the call centre in an attempt to get an update and the gentleman I spoke to could tell me nothing at all about any progress but claimed that the problem was still scheduled to be fixed by Wednesday (the following day) and promised to call me back the next day between 7 and 8pm.
Wednesday went by with no further progress. The gentleman at the call centre rang me back, true to his word, but then immediately put me on hold for fifteen minutes before coming back to say that the department he needed to speak to was not available due to being 'very busy'. He did, however inform me that the line had been damaged by "pluffing" and that the entire line would need to be re-laid and this would take "special digging equipment" and also "permission from the authorities".
I enquired about escalating the case or could I at least speak to someone who could give me a more tangible update and he told me quite firmly that I was 'not allowed' to make any other calls or speak to anyone else about it. He promised me that he would ring back the following evening. I await his call with little expectation of good news.
In the six days since we reported the problem the Openreach engineers have spent no more than around twenty-five minutes in total dealing with the fault.
In the meantime we are completely cut off and we live in a very remote area. We depend on the Internet for banking, shopping, paying bills, speaking to relatives overseas and also for an online study course, not just for entertainment (although of course we use it for that as well). In short, it is essential to our way of life. Our nearest wireless hotspot is a 45-mile round trip away; I am having to make this trip more-or-less every day.
We are so frustrated at the poor service we are receiving, especially in the light of the stellar service that Business customers get by comparison. Is there anybody out there who can help?

If you would like to contact one of the UK based BT Care Team who moderate this forum, they may be able to help you.
They can be contacted using this link BT Care Team
They normally respond by phone or e-mail, within three working days, however you should get an immediate confirmation, with a tracking number.
