Is it possible to add / change frequency bands to ...

Now this question may, after I have all my information, well, it may appear foolish even to ask but I was curious. I am curious as to whether or not frequency bands can me added or modified on N series phones? Is this an issue of hardware updates or can it be solved through a firmware update?
I ask this since it seems that the GSM carriers of North America will have "their" frequency bands and despite the fact that the ENTIRE rest of the world (at least it seems that way to me...) is operating on a different set of frequency bands that they won't change for any reason.
Are they waiting for the rest of the world to go to their frequency bands of GSM? Or are they just loathe to change? Will they change their GSM frequencies when they go to a 4G network? Why are they different? Just to be different and/or stubborn?
I'm not trying to pick on them I'm just trying to understand the reasoning behind their choice of frequency bands which makes it more difficult for me and many others to get a good Nokia N-series phone? Could it be a fear of competition from outside phone manufacturers?

It all comes down to what was available in the country at the time the system was developed. In Europe before GSM came along, each country had their own system (TACS, NMT, C-NET etc...) and own bands, but ITU tried to get all countries to harmonise, EU went further and made all countries clear a few bands of radio spectrum and work on a common system, hence GSM. Other countries though like USA had different band requirements due to historical usage by the millitary and other organisations and so couldn't reserve the same bands.
Today there are 4 GSM bands (5? if you count GSM railway) and most mid-range phones will support all 4, that allows you to contect in any GSM network. However if you have only a 2 or 3 band phone it isn't possible to change those bands as the hardware filters in the radio are fixed. When you go to 3G there is something like 9 bands defined. Some of these are in different areas of the radio spectrum, others use different channel numbering but very similar parts of the radio spectrum. In some cases those bands are the same as the standard GSM bands with the intention that in the future GSM in those bands might be switched off and 3G reused in those bands.
This is very much a simple summary of 30+ years of cellular development.

Problems trying to change frequency band on Airport Express

I'm trying to solve drop-out issues, when playing music from I-tunes etc over airport express connected to stereo, by changing frequency band and channel on my Time Capsule-router with Airport Utility.
My problem is that I changed it to 5Ghz, and when it restarted my Imac said it could not be found. My wireless network disappeared from Airport menu.
I could still see network it on my macbook, and Airport utility on macbook could also see it, apparently not registering any problem. However when I tried to connect to actually connect to wireless network I was asked for my password, which was then refused several times.
I was eventually able to able to access TC in Airport utility on my macbook by connecting to it by ethernet cable. I tried changing band to 2.4 Ghz, with same results (asked for password, which was refused).
Finally, when I restored original basic 8.2.11n setting, all returned to normal.
However, I'd like to try to solve my drop-put problems by remedies proposed elsewhere in forum, such as changing frequency band and channel. Does anyone know why I am having this problem changing frequency band and channel. My imac (which could not see TC on 5Ghs is pre-intel, mac-book has intel, both OSX 10.5.8.
Also, are there settings changes I can try to improve drop-out issue. I've heard of something called interference robustness, for example?

Thanks for reply. I tried again changing frequency to 2.4 as suggested, but the problem was the same. Airport Utility reports it cannot find device. Then, when I try to connect to wireless network anyway, a box comes up telling me to enter password. I do this and I get the message "connection failed".
Fortunately, I am able to wire my macbook into Time capsule by ethernet cable, and change it back to original setting, and all is well.
I did succeed in changing channel, but still on the 8.2.11n setting. However I would still have liked to see if I could improve drop-out issues by changing frequency band, if you have any more ideas about what could be wrong.

i want to add/change the content of a ViewContainerUIElement (VCUI) during runtime, but it doesn't work as expected (or hoped;). What i got working so far for an <b>already exising</b> VCUI is:
1. Find the IWDViewContainerInfo for the VCUI
2. If no default view usage exists, create an embedded view usage and set is as default.
3. Set the component usage to the IWDComponentUsageInfo requested.
4. Set the view to the IWDViewUsageInfo of the interface view, which should be the content of the VCUI.
This doesn't work, if it's done after the wdDoInit()s of the controller hierarchy has been processed. The component, which is represented by the usage, is deleted and recreated, but the visual representation doesn't get updated (e.g. no changes on the display) if it's done in an action handler for example. Why? If i change the component usage (cloned component usage) nothing happens too.
Even more problems arise, if i try to add a new VCUI. The steps are pretty the same as before, what is done additionally (and prior the steps above) is:
1. Creating a IWDViewContainerInfo from the IWDViewInfo of the "parent" view.
2. Creating a IWDViewContainerAssignmentInfo from the view usage of the "parent" view
3. Setting the created IWDViewContainerInfo as view container in the assignment.
4. Create the VCUI, set the view container name to the name of the created IWDViewContainerInfo and add the VCUI to an arbitrary container in the parent view.
But this doesn't work, i'm getting:
java.lang.NullPointerException

I had the same problem with

when I included ViewUsages dynamically in an action handler (outside wdDoInit()).
The code below fixed that problem.
This code creates a new OutboundPlug for the embedding view with the embedded view as target and fires the plug.

This is my first submission. Really hope you can help as if there's a solution to this it will significantly help our business.
Is it possible to 'batch process' the adding or changing of OCR text in a PDF?
This might sound like a strange process but let me explain what we do:
1. We scan old, handwritten books and registers. Typically these registers contain lists of information. Each page will be scanned to a filename like pge01.jpg, pge02.jpg, pge03.jpg etc.
2. We transcribe the content of each page. Each page will contain mulitple records (i.e. 20 records) typical fields might be:
Unique ID
Surname
Forename
Year
Address
Filename (i.e. pge02.jpg)
3. We provide this content back within database driven software so that when a user performs a search on say 'Surname=Jones' & 'Year=1945' then all of the scanned pages that match that contains handwritten text that matches that search criteria is displayed in a list. The user can then click on a search result and see the scanned page containing that record.
Rather than provide database driven software, we'd simply like to produce a standard PDF file. Each page within the PDF will show each of the scanned pages (pge01.jpg, pge02.jpg, pge03.jpg etc.). But where you would normally store the 'ocr recognised text' behind each image, we would like to show our transcribed content.
If this is possible, then I realise that it's likely that you can't do field searches (i.e. 'Surname=Jones' & 'Year=1945') but at the very least I'd be able to type 'Jones' in to the search box and it would find all pages that contained the transcribed word 'jones'.
If it's possible to add the transcribed data as 'ocrd text' then is it possible to do it in some sort of batch process? We scan lots of big books and capture millions of records - so doing it manually is not an option.
Any help that anyone can provide will be hugely appreciated.

I don't think it's possible to manually add OCRd text, but you can add form
fields with the text in them. And yes, it is possible to search the content
of form fields, using a script.

How do you add non-Garage band instruments into a Logic project so that you can hear them on playback?

How do you add non-Garage band instruments (orchestral instruments) into a Logic Pro (8) project so that you can hear those insrtruments' sounds on playback? I've tried to understand and follow the Logic Pro 8 User Manual, but the process comes off as so complex and the writing so technical that it does not help but only confuses.
To be precise - I want to add instruments (orchestral) that are not offered in the current Garage band menu which is offered in the Mixer's channel strip menus for Logic Pro 8. To be clear, the instruments that are offered are Bass / Drum Kits / Guitars / Mallets / Organs / Pianos and Keyboards / Synth Basics / Synth Leads / Synth Pads. Most of these that I've tried seem to work and give their characteristic sound when placed in a particular channel and playback is clicked.
However - there is one orchestra instrument offered in the standard Logic Pro 8 Mixer channel menu and it's the item labelled "Performance - 000 flute 1 or 001 flute 1." And it is this instrument that presents a problem. When I click on it and choose it from the menu and enter it as the instrument of choice for a specfic channel / track in my Logic Pro project arrangement, when playing back the music for the overall piece this particular track, the flute, does not playback and produce the notes (Midi events) in the track in the sound of the flute. Instead, nothing comes out at all. I can't imagine why this does not work. Any ideas, anyone? Again, when choosing this instrument for a track and clicking the playback no flute sound is forthcoming. Why not? I have not tried them all, but when most of the other various types of keyboards, such as an electric piano or an organ, are chosen for a track the playback successfully renders the sound of these instruments. Why then does playback not produce the sound of the flute when it has clearly been chosen to play and sound the Midi events given it?
Anyway, the overall, larger issue for me is the inability I have to choose and get non-Garageband instruments (largely orchestral) to play the Midi events given on various tracks. If my guess is correct then technically, orchestral instruments not offered in the standard Logic Pro 8 Garageband Mixer channel menu are referred to as external Midi sampled instruments - still, IMHO the process is not clearly spelled out in the User Manual. The simple step by step process whereby a non-Garage band instrument, say an orchestral instrument, is placed in a channel replete with Midi event (notes) waiting to be played should be easy, logical and given in a simple to follow format, but is not.
What with all the talk of routes, busses, auxillary channels, GM devices, GM mixers, audio bins, libraries and audio files this Logic Pro User is confused to the max. Can someone please help me and, in simple English, describe the step by step process whereby presumably external sampled orchestral instruments can be successfully employed, in any given Logic Pro arrangement project, to render their characteristic sounds upon playback?
On my two Macs, one a laptop and one a much larger Mac, I have any number of the GSO (Garritan Symphony Orceshtra) and Vienna Symphony Orchestra instrument library samples - and yet - I've yet to figure out how to actually get them INTO a Logic Pro project of any kind! To put this as a question, even as a humble request, how can I make good use of these orchestral sample libraries in a Logic Pro project? Can someone steer my to a clear resolution of this issue. David, you understand that this is professional software and is not necessarily meant to be easy but is in fact designed to give the professional user as many choices as possible, that's why it's in the Pro Apps section. You WILL need to learn about buses, GM Devices, Audio Bins, Libraries...etc..etc if you intend to use Logic.
That said, you are looking in the wrong place in the channel strip.
May I offer you advice?

How to calculate power in specific frequency band

Hi Everyone. I have been trolling on here for months but this is my first post so I hope I am putting this in the correct place.
What I am trying to do is simple in theory but I have tried over and over and am having no luck in getting this to work. I wish to calculate the power in specific frequency bands for heart rate variability analysis.
Referring to the article "Using LabVIEW for Heart Rate Variability Analysis" http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/5832 I am aware of the steps I need to follow.
I have plotted the RR intervals and resampled these with cubic spline interpolation to give a nice time dependent series. I then wire this to a PSD VI and this is where I am out of my depth.
I know from the above article that I am looking for power in these frequency bands

Power from 0–0.04 Hz.
LF
ms2
Power from 0.04–0.15 Hz.
HF
ms2
Power from 0.15–0.4 Hz.
The NI Biomedical Startup kit can do these, however I am unable to look into the source code as I do not have some required plugins in my installation. I have LabVIEW 8.6 full development system.
As this is not my area there is a steep learning curve and I have read many forum posts and pages but am still unsure of what I need to do here.
It is my understanding that the frequency resolution is simply the sample rate/number of samples. So if I require a resolution of 0.01Hz then theoretically 100Hz sample rate and 10,000samples would give me this.Furthermore I gather that the size of the output array from the PSD VI is equal to the # of data points (This i have just noticed from trial and error so I may be wrong).
Therefore if I am using the above values then is it correct that PSD would return an array and all I need to do is simply sum the contents of those array elements to get the power?
For example if frequency resolution is 0.01 , then to get power from 0-0.04Hz I must simply add the first 4 elements in the PSD output array?
I have made a test VI to show what I am talking about and attached it to this post.
Some feedback on the required approach would be a lifesaver here. I have purchased a couple of books and read through pages of forum posts but am still having trouble with this.

Sorry about that, I didn't realize you wanted to run the code too The VI was doing a bunch of other stuff so I have tried to clean that out and just leave the relevant bit. As mentioned above, the case block executes when a peak is detected in the data and appends this value to an array.
I am using the technique of resampling the data because this is what was mentioned in this http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/5832 and also in another reference that I have been following titled "Heart Rate Variability Standards of Measurement, Physiological Interpretation, and Clinical Use" http://circ.ahajournals.org/cgi/content/full/93/5/1043 which states
"The spectrum of the HRV signal is generally calculated eitherfrom the RR interval tachogram (RR durations versus number ofprogressive beats; see Fig 5a,b) or by interpolating the DES,thus obtaining a continuous signal as a function of time, orby calculating the spectrum of the counts–unitary pulsesas a function of time corresponding to each recognized QRS complex.35Such a choice may have implications on the morphology, themeasurement units of the spectra, and the measurement of therelevant spectral parameters. Is it possible to add more input values for a payroll element?

Hi All
I have created an element with 1 default input value 'pay value' and another input value '1xx1'. I have linked this to payroll and attached to many employees. Now due to business requirment, I need to add one more input value '2yy2' and also I need to change the formula. Eventhough its a minor change in formula, without a new input value it will not work. I tried to add a new one by datetracking to the element creation date without sucess.
Is it possible to add input values after saving an element?

You can Change the Required Input Value to Not-required
Alter the Sequence of the Input Value to be displayed in the Element Entry Screen
You can Change the Input Value Validation Rule minimum, Maximum, Lookup and Formula
Change your specification of which input values create Database Items. Note, however, you cannot remove Database Items if they are used in any formulas or QuickPaint reports.
You cannot remove existing input values or add new one if you have created any entries for the element

Is it possible to add high resolution photos to an ipad2 without synchronising it?

Hi,
I'm looking in to offering potential clients an ipad with all their wedding photos pre loaded, but is it possible to add photos without synchronising each ipad to my mac? When I first got my ipad2, I couldn't use it for anything until I had connnected and registered it with Apple........I have got the camera connection kit, but haven't found a workaround for adding photos without synchronising yet?
I haven't been able to find much info on the subject so far? There must be a workaround?

The first thing that currently needs to be done with a new iPad is to activate it by connecting it to a computer that is running iTunes - it can't currently be used 'properly' until after that is done. After iOS 5 is released and is pre-installed on iPads then I think that should change and you will no longer need to first connect to a computer.
The camera connection kit can be used to add high-resolution photos to the iPad, unlike syncing via iTunes where the photos get 'optimised' by the transfer process. If adding the photos to the SD card yourself then you need to create a DCIM directory off the root of the card with the photos underneath it, and the photo filenames need to be exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension i.e. in a similar format as if a camera had created/written them
Otherwise there are third-party apps such as Simple Transfer which can copy photos to/from the iPad from your computer via your wifi network. But photos transferred this way will only go into the Saved Photos/Camera Roll album in the Photos app, not into a 'proper' album - and until iOS 5 is released and installed you won't be able to move the photos between albums on the iPad : from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :

Also a problem with syncing photos to the iPad via iTunes is that they then need to be on the other person's computer when they then connect to it - otherwise the photos are likely to be removed from the device. Photos copied via the connection kit or copied via third-party apps shouldn't have that problem.

Is it possible to add a firewall Filter or Rule Set to the setting for the Extreme Router (802.11n) like the following:
"ALLOW TCP/UDP IN/OUT to 208.67.222.222 or 208.67.220.220 on Port 53" and
"BLOCK TCP/UDP IN/OUT all IP addresses on Port 53"
The goal of this is to create a firewall rule to only allow DNS (TCP/UDP) to OpenDNS' servers and restrict all other DNS traffic to any other IPs.
Or, alternatively is there a way to configure same applied to the Network preferences on IMAC OS X?

Sorry, I think you've got it backwards.
The concern is NOT that the child can make changes to our hardware/AEBS, or even our network software on my IMAC - nothing's been changed.
BUT, he changed the dns settings on his OWN device (ie chromebook) to google public server, accessed the AE using our home wifi network BUT bypassed our dns settings. Capeesh?

How to add/change Job Options when saving a FrameMaker document as a PDF using Acrobat 9

If you are logged on as a domain user you could have a problem if you want to add or edit .joboption files in Distiller 9 when it is opened by FrameMaker.
After installing Acrobat 9 the action of saving a FrameMaker document as a PDF automatically starts Distiller 9 which then uses the "Job Options" files that are located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings. Unless some changes have been made to the "Security" settings of the "Adobe" folder and the "Adobe PDF" folder under "All Users" it will not be possible to add or edit ".joboption" files in the "Settings" folder located in that "Adobe PDF" folder.
This can be confusing because when Distiller 9 is started separately, from Programs, it then uses the job options located in your own user folder (C:\Documents and Settings\NLPW\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings). In your own user folder (in my case: NLPW) you can add or edit the job option files.
In order to be able to add or edit job option files under "All Users" you must be included in the "All Users" list and have the appropriate "Permissions" security setting. To set this, right click on the "Adobe" folder (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe) and select "Properties", then click on the "Security" tab and add yourself to the list. Finally, (important) check the "Full Control" box under "Allow" in the permissions field. Repeat this procedure on the "Adobe PDF" folder (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF). Now you have the ability to add or edit ".joboption" files located in the "Settings" folder and these will be available when Distiller is started by FrameMaker.

Thank you so much for that tip. I don’t have exactly the same set-up (FrameMaker 8, Acrobat 8 Professional), but changing the permissions as you describe fixed the problem of not being able to save or change Distiller job options which has been bothering me for a while.

Those bugs happen both for new speadsheets as well as existing onces, like the demo. When you are in the form only the numeric keyboard shows up.
Pat from the Apple Store Rosenstrasse/Germany approved that it looks like a Bug during the Numbers Workshop I was in: It is not possible to add new columns with format "Text". I reported the error for Version 1.4 but there is no update nor do I get statement of understanding the issue.

I see what you are talking about now. Without knowing how the program actually works, I think this is what's going on:
When you add a new column to an already existing table (with already existing formats), the new cells come already formatted like the previous column. So when you add a column to the end of the demo table, the cells are already formatted like stars, and when you add a column to the beginning, they're already formatted like number.
I think this is why it's different when if you add columns to a table with blank (unformatted) columns. In that case, the new cells aren't already "tainted" with a set format, so you can change to text format without issue.
It seems like the problem is that you can't format cells that are already formatted as "number" as "text" format (even if it doesn't look like they are, because they are blank). IMO, this is a bug! This is why you don't see this issue when adding columns to a new table, because the new cells don't already come with a format.
To workaround, you can highlight the body cells after adding the new column, and delete the cells. This will "clear" the formatting, so you can then go in the inspector, format them as text, and the correct keyboard will pop up.

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of doing so include clicking here and picking a method for your country, and filling out and submitting this form.
It isn't possible to add a rescue email or change an existing one without correctly answering two of the questions.

I need to change the signal frequency for example 50 Hz for example by moving the slider that on the chart were waveforms amplitudes in certain frequency bands.
How to choose the frequency of the signal to change the band on the graph?

In your analysis results, what is the delta frequency between datapoints? Just increment through the array of amplitude values. For example, if your datapoints are 5Hz apart, simply index out every 10th value in the amplitudes. If the increment is a non-integer value, you will need to do some interpolation, but other than that the process is basically the same.
