Is it possible to call a procedure in OBIEE?

Is it possible that the end user give the values of parameters, in a input box for example, and then OBIEE call a back end pl/sql procedure which will generate some data.
how to implement this? Or is there any workaround to do this?

Hi,
You can use functions (specific or self defined) in the database through the evaluate function (see: http://oraclebizint.wordpress.com/2007/09/10/oracle-bi-ee-10133-support-for-native-database-functions-and-aggregates/).
I do not think it will return a record set though.

  • Call a procedure through a DB LINK ???

    Hey,
    I would like to execute a distant procedure in a process.
    I have an HTML DB database with the "HTML DB application". I have a second db with my "data". With my "data" database I have a procedure, that I would like to execute in my HTMLDB database.
    Is it possible (to call a procedure stored in a db which I access with a db link) ?
    Thanks,
    Fred

    Yes. If you have schema DBA1 in database DATA1 with procedure PROC1 and HTML DB installed in database HTMLDB with the parsing schema HT then:
    1) In schema HT create a database link named DBLINK which connects either to schema DBA1 or a schema in database DATA1 which execute privileges via a direct grant to run PROC1.
    2) In schema HT invoke PROC1 by PROC1@DBLINK.
    If you create a view named VW1 in schema HT like "SELECT * FROM TABLE1@DBLINK", then you can write INSERTs, UPDATEs, or DELETEs in HTML DB applications against view VW1 as if it were a table in database HTMLDB.

  • Calling a procedure from a portel report

    I have a report which is returning rows from a dblink, this works fine. I want to select an individual row from the report and write a new record to a diffent table using some of the columns from the row selected. The table I am writting to will be held within the portal db.
    Idea...
    Is it possible to call a procedure using the link application wizard (html link), if I could call a procedure via the html link and pass parameters from the record selected then I could write some pl/sql to insert a row in my other table, is this possible ?,if so how do I do it ?
    Any other ideas would be most welcome.
    Thanks in anticiptaion.

    The javascript function - you copied it completely, including all my beautiful images - calls an Application Process : toggleAvail.
    And I guess you didn't define that one.
    You created a stored procedure instead (with another name?), but with an AJAX call you can (only) call Application Processes....(which can call stored procedures...).
    (Je mag me ook direct mailen/bellen als dat sneller is...).

  • Call stored procedure in JDBC passing Array parameters

    Hi all,
    Im trying to call an Oracle Stored Procedure with JDBC. The problem is
    that my parameter is an Array (PL/SQL Type is "Table Of").
    How can i call this procedure by passing right Java parameters to

    In the Documentation, all samples don't work ! it's possible to
    call a procedure that return Array Type but when we need to pass an Array as
    a parameter we have a DataType exception.
    Any idea ?
    thanx in advance

    1) If you are using autonomous transactions for anything other that writing log data that you want to preserve even if the triggering transaction fails, you're probably doing something wrong. There is no reason to use an autonomous transaction here.
    2) You don't want to send email from a trigger. You don't want to do anything non-transactional in a trigger. Oracle will, for example, rollback and re-execute parts of a statement for write consistency. If you send email in a trigger, you may get multiple emails for a single update. You may also get emails for updates that were never committed. And if the email server happens to be down, your transactions will fail.
    3) If you use an autonomous transaction, the trigger will have a completely different transaction context from the parent. So when you query the table within the trigger, you won't be able to see any of the uncommitted changes including the changes that caused the trigger to fire. My guess is that you are assuming that the row that you inserted is visible to the trigger.

    ugh, what an ugly "design". I can see your life will be full of performance issues, strange 'bugs', and other unpleasant side effects. I mean, it all looks "so cool", but it'll be a nightmare to maintain and enhance.
    but then you have the issue of binds, which will be intractable. You'd have to know the binds at compile time, but you have hidden all of your sql in a magic generic table - so you cannot possibly know your binds at compile time.
    I would suggest you discard all of this code (I am DEAD SERIOUS) and start over. This is a bad idea from the get go. Or at least do me a favor and do not use plsql (you make it look like a good database implementation, but it isn't)
    The objective here is to store SQL Statements in a Table(a sql repository) and just call the required SQL from the application using the sqlid using the sql_execute procedure. ...
    CHANGE YOUR OBJECTIVE.
    How about this for a good objective:
    the objective here is to store sql statement in a plsql routine (a sql repository, you call a procedure and we run sql) and just call the required sql form the applicatoin using the STORED PROCEDURE
    sorry, can I think of hacks to get you going? yes, application contexts come to mind - a fixed number of binds comes to mind. Am I going to work them out? No - it is the wrong way to approach a database application.

  • Calling stored procedure and returning multiple resultsets

    Hello,
    Is it possible to create a procedure that return multiple result sets?
    e.g.
    procedure GetDataFromTables() is
    begin
    select * from table_one;
    select * from table_two;
    end GetDataFromTables;
    And I want to call this procedure that returns multiple resultsets (one for table_one and another for table_two)
    I have referred to the OCCI sample occiproc.cpp, but I am not sure how to handle multiple resultsets.
    Your help is highly appreciated.

    Thank You,
    Got the REF cursor in storedproc.cpp.
    But as it is documented, getCursor() gets the REF CURSOR value of an OUT parameter as a ResultSet.
    So, is it true that if I have to write a procedure that selects * from 50 tables (50 SQL statements) , I have to set 50 OUT parameters to get the result sets.?
    Is there any better way of doing this?
    e.g. in DB2, we can open multiple cursors in the procedure body and then get the result set one after another.
    CREATE PROCEDURE get_staging_data ()
    RESULT SETS 1 <no. of result sets>
    LANGUAGE SQL
    BEGIN ATOMIC
    DECLARE L_SQL varchar(5000);
    DECLARE c CURSOR WITH RETURN TO CLIENT FOR L_STMT;
    SET L_SQL = '';
    SET L_SQL = 'SELECT * FROM ';
    SET L_SQL = L_SQL || IN_Tab_Name ;
    SET L_SQL = L_SQL || ' WHERE VERIFY_FLAG=''S'' FOR READ ONLY OPTIMIZE FOR 2000 ROWS' ;
    PREPARE L_STMT FROM L_SQL;
    OPEN c; < can open multiple cursors in the prodedure body>

  • Calling Stored Procedure without JDBC-Adapter

    Hallo,
    as it is not possible calling Stored Procedures with the parameter Typ Record in Oracle my question: It is possible connecting to DB using native java-code for example in Mapping?
    Thanks in advance,
    Frank

    Hi Frank,
    Maybe you can use the DB look up using the JDBC adapter in your mapping.
    Just check this blog for the same,
    /people/siva.maranani/blog/2005/08/23/lookup146s-in-xi-made-simpler
    As for calling an Oracle Strored Procedure, it is possible using a RECEIVER JDBC adapter, but not a SENDER JDBC adapter.
    <i> import the jdbc-driver (oracle) in an archive in Designer.</i>
    Also, this imported archive should be under any Namespace, but, it should be in the same SWCV as the one in which the mapping is being executed.

  • JDBC-Adapter-Receiver Calling Stored Procedure with Input-Typ Record

    Hallo,
    I´ m trying calling a stored-procedure with two input-parameter; one of typ record (oracle) and one of type tabel of records. Is this possible (I think there are only types like string, integer etc. possible)? When not is there another possibility to work with that type?
    Thanks in advance,
    Frank

    Hi Frank,
    I think stored procedures will not take Array of Records as a Input. If you want to make a loop funtionality etc then JDBC adapter will work accordingly. You need to just call the stored procedure from the JDBC adapter. It will work for the array of records(multiple occurences).
    Receiver JDBC Procedures.
    /people/siva.maranani/blog/2005/05/21/jdbc-stored-procedures
    Alternative option is you can make use of Java Proxy and from there you can call stored procedure ..I think it is possible.. not tried.
    Hope this helps

  • Calling Stored procedure with Parameters in PowerPivot DataModel

    Hi All,
    I wanted to call a SQL stored procedure from PowerPivot(Excel) on based on changing slicer's value.
    Currently, we can call stored procedure wihtout any parameter from Data Model tab using
    Exec stored_proc_name in Table Properties window.
    What if I want to call the same procedure with a parameter whouse value will come by changing slicer's value. I  meant, changing slicer value will act as a parameter to that stored procedure & it should return updated results.
    Is this possible in PowerPivot?

    Hi Rameshwar,
    According to your description, you call a SQL Server stored procedure in PowerPivot data model, now the problem is that you need to pass a parameter to the stored procedure, right?
    Based on my research, it seems that we cannot achieve this requirement directly in current version of PowerPivot data model. Here is a similar thread for you reference.

  • Securely calling stored procedure with APEX URL

    I have a web server that needs to call a stored procedure on an Oracle database (v10.2.0.4.0-64bit), and to do so without storing schema credentials on the web server it has been recommended to call the procedure using a URL to APEX, and granting execute privileges on the package storing the procedure to APEX_PUBLIC_USER.  However, this allows anyone on the network to call the procedure if they have the URL.  Is there any way to make sure that either Apex or the procedure only responds directly to requests from the web server?

    Nick,
    Assuming you are talking about application server ( not web server ).
    It is common practice to create new user on Oracle database (often called proxy user, so you don't have to use schema credentials). Grant this user privileges to call package you need. Then on application server store encrypted credentials for this new user.
    Application (java or .net) then connects to Oracle using new user credentials and executes packaged procedure.
    Using Apex is the same. You need to have Authentication enabled (hence to store user id and password). If not, it is not secure.
    Making any application (including Apex) to respond to request from specific IP  is possible by inspecting ip from request header (Apex : UTL_HTTP.GET_HEADER ).
    There are problems however:
    1.If connection is made by proxy, request ip can change.
    2.Hackers can use "ip spoofing" to emulate request from permitted server.
    Another option would be to set up proxy server rules, permitting traffic between selected servers only.
