Is it possible to combine arrays without array copying?

im just curious that's all..is there an other way...can someone post it here?

System.arrayCopy can be used as:
          Object[] first;
          Object[] second;
          Object[] combined = new Object[first.length+second.length];
          System.arraycopy(first, 0, combined, 0, first.length);
          System.arraycopy(second, 0, combined, first.length, second.length);

    Hi All,
    I accidently submitted the first post.. please disregard the previous one.
    I am struggling with this problem. Please HELP!!!
    I have an array of numbers:
    Set1  50     62    73    82       91     96   100
    Set2  43     78    146  186     230   255
    Set3  0.25  2      6     12       20
    Set4  5       50    500   2000  8000
    Set5  5       50    500   2000  8000
    I need to create all possible combinations for Set1 through Set5.
    Example:
    {50, 43, 0.25, 5, 5}
    {50, 43, 0.25, 5, 50}
    {50, 43, 0.25, 5, 500}
    {50, 43, 0.25, 5, 2000}
    {50, 43, 0.25, 5, 8000}
    {50, 43, 0.25, 5, 5}
    {50, 43, 0.25, 50, 5}
    {50, 43, 0.25, 500, 5}
    {50, 43, 0.25, 2000, 5}
    {50, 43, 0.25, 8000, 5}
    {50, 43, 0.25, 5, 5}
    {50, 43, 2, 5, 5}
    {50, 43, 6, 5, 5}
    {50, 43, 12, 5, 5}
    {50, 43, 20, 5, 5}
    and so on....
    I just can't figure out how to loop this through to go through all possible combinations of the 5 sets. (
    Looking forward to your suggestions and help.

    You have to have 5 nested loops.
    Let's call your COLUMNS A-E and your ROWS 0-4:
    A0 B0 C0 D0 E0
    A1 B1 C1 D1 E1
    A2 B2 C2 D2 E2
    A3 B3 C3 D3 E3
    A4 B4 C4 D4 E5
    Extract all the COLUMNS.
    Take COLUMN A and autoindex it on the first (outside) loop:
    For i = 0 to 4
    Ax = A[i]
    Pass Column B THROUGH the first FOR loop and autoindex it on the second loop:
    For i = 0 to 4
    Bx = B[i] // autoindexing will do this for you
    Pass Column C THROUGH the first and second FOR loop and autoindex it on the third loop:
    For i = 0 to 4
    Cx = C[i] // autoindexing will do this for you
    and so on:
    For i = 0 to 4
    Dx = D[i] // autoindexing will do this for you
    For i = 0 to 4
    Ex = E[i] // autoindexing will do this for you
    Assemble Ax, Bx, Cx, Dx and Ex into a set and do with it what you want.
    Just do five nested loops and remember to autoindex A on the outside loop, B on the 2nd, C on the 3rd, D on the 4th, and E on the inside loop.
    I think you will get 5^5 combinations.Message Edited by CoastalMaineBird on 11-17-2005 10:44 AM

  • Easiest way to sum all possible (different) combinations in an array?

    Hey guys,
    Say I have an array of sorted values (of attenuation), I want to generate an array of all possible sums of those values, sort it, then refer to it as a list of all possible attenuation values (lets say theyre bits on a discrete digital attenuator).  I will try to show you an example of what I mean with letters:
    Array of attens: [a, b, c, d]
    I want an array like this: [a+b,  a+c,  a+d,  a+b+c,  a+b+d,  a+c+d,  b+c,  b+d,  b+c+d]... I hope I'm not missing any combos here...
    I'm attaching my attempt at this idea but there's something missing I think, I am doing something wrong...
    Thanks for any ideas or help.

    Have you concidered looking at this as a variation on binary counting?
    The total number of combinations is 2^(NumberOfSettings) if you include "None".
    So generate a ramp from zero to the total number possible.
    Convert each number to a boolean array and then use the boolean to determine if its corresponding value gets add into the total.
    After processing all of the values from the ramp the final array should be in ascending order.
    I hope that outline helps,

  • Printing every possible pair combination of elements in two arrays??

    Hi there,
    I'm trying to implement the problem of printing every possible pair combination of elements in two arrays. The pattern I have in mind is very simple, I just don't know how to implement it. Here's an example:
    g[3] = {'A', 'B', 'C'}
    h[3] = {1, 2, 3}
    ...code...??
    Expected Output:
    A = 1
    B = 2
    C = 3
    A = 1
    B = 3
    C = 2
    A = 2
    B = 1
    C = 3
    A = 2
    B = 3
    C = 1
    A = 3
    B = 1
    C = 2
    A = 3
    B = 2
    C = 1
    The code should work for any array size, as long as both arrays are the same size. Anybody know how to code this??
    Cheers,
    Sean

    not a big fan of Java recursion, unless tail recursion, otherwise you are bound to have out of stack error. Here is some generic permutation method I wrote a while back:
    It is generic enough, should serve your purpose.
    * The method returns all permutations of given objects.  The input array is a two-dimensionary, with the 1st dimension being
    * the number of buckets (or distributions), and the 2nd dimension contains all possible items for each of the buckets.
    * When constructing the actual all permutations, the following logic is used:
    * take the following example:
    * 1    2    3
    * a    d    f
    * b    e    g
    * c
    * has 3 buckets (distributions): 1st one has 3 items, 2nd has 2 items and 3rd has 2 items as well.
    * All possible permutaions are:
    * a    d    f
    * a    d    g
    * a    e    f
    * a    e    g
    * b    d    f
    * b    d    g
    * b    e    f
    * b    e    g
    * c    d    f
    * c    d    g
    * c    e    f
    * c    e    g
    * You can see the pattern, every possiblity of 3rd bucket is repeated once, every possiblity of 2nd bucket is repeated twice,
    * and that of 1st is 4.  The number of repetition has a pattern to it, ie: the multiplication of permutation of all the
    * args after the current one.
    * Therefore: 1st bucket has 2*2 = 4 repetition, 2nd has 2*1 = 2 repetition while 3rd being the last one only has 1.
    * The method returns another two-dimensional array, with the 1st dimension represent the number of permutations, and the 2nd
    * dimension being the actual permutation.
    * Note that this method does not purposely filter out duplicated items in each of given buckets in the items, therefore, if
    * is any duplicates, then the output permutations will contain duplicates as well.  If filtering is needed, use
    * filterDuplicates(Obejct[][] items) first before calling this method.

    Here is one possibility. Since your 3D array has a variable number of empty rows on each page, a simple reshape alone will not be sufficient, you also need to eliminate empty rows.
    I don't know what kind of row order you want, but my solution gives a different order than your desired output. Still, this should get you started. You might need to sort the rows differently.

  • How do you create an array without using a shell on the FP?

    I want to be able to read the status of front panel controls (value, control box selection, etc.) and save it to a file, as a "configuration" file -- then be able to load it and have all the controls set to the same states as were saved in the file. I was thinking an array would be a way to do this, as I have done that in VB. (Saving it as a text file, then reading lines back into the array when the file is read and point the control(s) values/states to the corresponding array element.
    So how do I create an array of X dimensions without using a shell on the front panel? Or can someone suggest a better way to accomplish what I am after? (Datalogging doesn't allow for saving the status by a filename, so I
    do not want to go that route.)

    Thanks so much m3nth! This definitely looks like what I was wanting... just not really knowing how to get there.
    I'm not sure I follow all the icons. Is that an array (top left with 0 constant) in the top example? And if so, that gets back to part of my original question of how to create an array without using a shell on the FP. Do I follow your diagram correctly?
    If I seem a tad green... well I am.
    I hope you understand the LabVIEW environment and icons are still very new to me.
    Also, I had a response from an NI app. engineer about this problem. He sent me a couple of VI's that he threw together approaching this by using Keys. (I still think you are pointing to the best solution.) I assume he wouldn't mind m
    e posting his reply and the VI's for the sake of a good, thorough, Roundtable discussion. So here are his comments with VI's attached:
    "I was implementing this exact functionality this morning for an application I'm working on. I only have five controls I want to save, but they are all of different data types. I simply wrote a key for each control, and read back that key on initialization. I simply passed in property node values to the save VI at the end, and passed the values out to property nodes at
    the beginning. I've attached my initialize and save VI's for you to view. If you have so many controls that this would not be feasible, you may want to look into clustering the controls and saving the cluster as a datalog file.

  • Is it possible to/how can I create an array of arrays in Labview 6i?

    I am trying to create a data structure based on a tree where each limb is an array of arrays and each of those arrays is an array of arrays...etc. My ultimate purpose of this is for multidimensional (infinite) data saving/data recovery.

    I suspect it won't work for your intended application, but here is an answer to your question:
    You can't create an array of arrays, because that would be the same as increasing the number of dimensions of the array. However, you can store an array in a cluster, then have an array of clusters with arrays in them. So, indirectly it is possible. This gives you the possibility of each array being a different size.

  • Is it possible to combine multiple pdf's into one without saving them onto your computer?

    Hello
    I open pdf's in an application (no add ons for acrobat exist), and want to combine them without having to use time on saving them before merging them into one single document.
    Is it possible to do this without having the files saved onto your computer? I use acrobat x pro.

    I dont think you understand my question. Of course Adobe reader cant combine pdf's, if it could I would not have had to purchase Adobe acrobat.
    The problem I am trying to solve is how to combine pdf files when they are not opened/saved locally on my computer.
    If I make Acrobat the standard program for opening pdf files on my computer - then will it be possible to combine the files that are opened without saving them first?
    I dont have the program installed on my computer now, and have to know this before we purchase it.

  • How to populate one array without running the entire VI

    I'm trying to populate a complex array that I built that reads from a spreadsheet file.  The company I am building it for only has labview run time on the PXI test equipment that I am working with.  I am having to fix the VI On my computer then build an executable and then test it on the machine to see if it runs properly.  It's a very tedious process.  I cannot run the VI on my computer because it requires to have a FLUKE 726 connected in order to run.  So, I was wondering if there is a way to repopulate the array without running the entire VI?
    Your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Create a subVI for reading/processing of the array.  Then you just have to test that subVI as your machine.

    thanks.
    ... I'm trying to make an emulator to emulate the simplest memory.

    Given your other posts, I'm assuming you mean in C, right?
    If so, the answer is yes, but specifically how will depend on a needed clarification of your question.  What you present doesn't really need to be a 2 dimensional array, just one: that looks like a simple list of memory addresses, right?
    At the simplest you can declare an array with two dimensions `iny myarray[2][3];` but to make the table you put up there you'd only need `int *myarray[3];`
    If you also wanted space allocated somewhere that each element of that list pointed to, you could allocate them separately:
    int *myarray[3];
    myarray[0] = (int *) malloc(sizeof(int));
    myarray[1] = (int *) malloc(sizeof(int));
    myarray[2] = (int *) malloc(sizeof(int));
    Obviously with many entries this should be in a loop.  Perhaps not as obviously, why would you not just malloc a larger block of memory to start with?
    What is the end goal?
    EDIT: actually, upon rereading your question, the mallocs are probably irrelevant.  `int *myarray[3]` will get you the array you are looking for.  Just realize that until you point those pointers to memory you 'own' you shouldn't assign to or read from them.

    The "Create array" function can be configured to take arrays as well as
    elements. You have to use a loop that iterates as often as necessary,
    checking for new data. When it receives new data, it adds the new data to
    the existing array. It's probably easier to attach a small example than to
    describe it in more
    detail.

    Thanks

    Hi,
    this
    +"As soon as page runs , i m getting the below error on server logs and also getting the same error once page page loads , user click on SellectmnayListBOx components on screen ."+
    cannot be the full story you tell. The exception is thrown in the context of a prepareForDML, which is called on entities for the Create / Update and Delete use case. I also see a failed rollback. So there must be something you do before this happens during a page refresh

  • Finding the largest values of an array without using if condition

    Hi,
    I am trying to find the largest values of an array without using any if condition. Can any one tell me the solution for that..
    Thanks

    I am trying to find the largest values of an arrayThe 'S' to values suggests that you want not only the largest one, but multiple ones among the largest ones. The best way, I think, is to sort the array, so that its largest values are grouped topgether. If the type is already Comparable, the following single line does the job:
    Collections.sort(myArray);After this, the last values of the array are the largest ones.
    Jerome.
