Is it possible to install CAB file on PPC device after sync?

Hello everyone,
I've been working with Oracle Lite for over a year and a half now developing a PocketPC application. It's working well and expanding fast. As such we have many application updates that happen every few days. Right now we distribute the application by packaging everything (.NET framework, Oracle Lite client and our application) in a desktop installer. This works great except that it doesn't work well with our quick update schedule.
So my question is what is the simplest way (if at all possible) to distribute our application CAB file through the mobile server. Basically all I need is to have the client download the new CAB file, uninstall the old version and then execute the CAB file and install the new application. Nothing fancy I think. I would prefer if it would be as simple as dropping the CAB file in some folder on the mobile server. I've read something about INF files in the documentation but as usual that is way too brief to make it useful.
If anyone can let me know how I can do this I would really appreciate it.
Thanks.

Hi, I'm also developing for PPC platform on Oracle Lite. Did you consider deploying the application as a plain set of files? When I was making the decision whether to CAB or not to CAB, I decided not to use CAB deployment and deploy our application as a plain set of files with installation steps described in the setup.inf file you mentioned. We also perform updates frequently, but we almost never update all the modules - just one of two files at the moment which makes quite small amount of data in comarison with the huge CAB which would need to be transfered to the device if we use the CAB deployment.
The documentation contains some useful information about the setup.inf format - it's quite easy to understand and use. First of all you have to create a JAR package (which is just renamed zip file) containing your application files plus the setup.inf file and web.xml file. Than you have to publis this application using the mobile server web interface. After this initial step, mobile server creates a directory for your application in {OLITE_HOME}\mobile_oc4j\j2ee\mobileserver\applications\mobileserver. If you wish to publish a new version of your application than, you just copy the new files (or single CAB) and increment the version number in setup.inf file.
I think you can find setup.inf and web.xml samples in the forum's history. If you won't be able to find them, I can post some examples....

  • Is it possible to install jar files on S40 devices...

Im having Ovi 2.2 installed, but can find any app installer. For S60 I can just drag and drop files onto Ovi for installation. This does not work for S40 apps. Am I missing something or do I need Nokia PC suite for that?

Not sure if it works this way but you may try..
In your PC, Right click on the jar file you want to transfer-->Send to-->Bluetooth--> (Select your phone)--> send... This will arrive in your phone as a message... When you click on the message.. it will automatically start the installation and ask you the destination.. Select..and there you are..

  • Who knows is it possible do install exe files on mac? is there any convertor program, etc ???

Who knows is it possible do install exe files on mac? is there any convertor program, etc ???

What you've been told is roughly right, except that, even if you had the source code, it would not necessarily be possible to compile it under Mac OS X.
There is, however, a rare special case. That is when the .exe application is actually a self-expanding Zip archive; ie, a compressed archive to which the code necessary to expand it has been added. The code itself would not run under Mac OS X, of course, but you could extract the content of the archive by using an application such as Zipeg, or after changing the filename extension to .zip.

  • N95 Not possible to install JAR files

    Hello,
    I've got a problem with my N95.
In fact, when I try to install java games or applications (.JAR files), the phone seems to try the installation but after a while, the progression bar freeze and nothing else happen...
I don't get any error message, the JAR file just doesn't install so I'm very sad with this new bug :'(
Is there a way to purge or erase old bad installations on the phone ?
Thanks in advance for your answers dudes :-)
    Best regards.

    m8,
N95 is java enabled phone one can install any java apps or games, but the hitch is it should be design or tested to run on this phone because of resolutions, screen size etc. This applies to other Nokia java enabled phone not in particular N95.
If the app is not listed in the applicattion mgr since its a failed installation, you can used 3rd party file browser & look for the apps & other files associated with it & you can delete it.

  • Only a few of my music files on my iPhone after syncing

I have my entire iTunes library on an external hard drive. After my PC kicked the bucket last week I purchased a new Mac Book Pro and uploaded my entire music library from the external hard drive. The music made it onto my computer just fine and is sitting in my Library on iTunes but for some reason every time I sync it I only end up with about 5 of my files (16 gba in all) on my iPhone.
I just don't understand what could be causing this. My external hard drive is no longer connected to my Mac and yet I can still see and play all of my music in my Library. I have made sure to click the little button saying that I want to sync my music etc. but still no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Match needs wifi if you are not using cellular data. You can pre-download whilst you have a wifi. Previously streamed tracks are kept in a cache.

  • All files classified as "OTHER" after sync

I was syncing my iPod tonight and iTunes made me restore it and now the iPod says I have no songs but 9GB of "OTHER"?! When looking in iTunes...it shows mostly blue for audio...but the ipod shows ZERO music. I've had it for less than a year... Anyone know how to fix this? I've restored it 4 or 5 times and it keeps doing the same thing.... I never had any problems syncing before.

I tried this and I also upgraded my iphone. The data summary in itunes is showing up correctly, but it still won't sync. Also, I have 1154 songs in my itunes library and the data summary says there is 1154 songs on my iphone. When I go to the music app on my iphone and scroll to the bottom of the songs list, it says 1149 songs. Does anyone else have this problem?

  • Installing .exe files?

Is it possible to install .exe files on my MAC? There are a couple of programs that are designed for Windows (Why, I shall never know) that I very much need to run but cannot find Mac versions of. Is there some software I can get that will allow me to run these programs?

I've had luck on occasion with decompressing and then using .exe files using Stuffit Expander.
That's only because it was a .zip file converted to a self extracting archive. An .exe file is normally a program in Windows.

  • Transferring files from Multiple Devices to 1 ITunes Account

I have three Apple devices, an ITouch, an IPhone and an IPad and one ITunes account.
I'm trying to fill my Itunes library with all my files from each of my devices, the files differ so on one I have a tv series the other two don't have this, then I have albums I've imported from CD's on my IPad but they're not on my computer or other device as I have a new computer.
Is it possible to transfer all files from each device to my itunes ? If so how ? The only options I can seem to find is to update the Idevices from my Itunes and not the other way around ?

No problem, it is still much the same advice but you'll need to use third party tools to extract the data.
See this post from forum regular Zevoneer for some options.
If there is a chance that you've got some overlap you might want to use my DeDuper script. See this  thread for background.

  • Attaching file to a Response after Submission

    Good Afternoon,
With my form I have an option for the user to attach multiple files.  Whenever the user attaches a file and submits a response it is possible to add more files by right clicking the attachment cell.  However, if the user does not attach a file it does not appear to be possible to attach a file to that response after the fact.  Sometimes I have abunch of data that I would like to be linked to that response  but it happens to be made after the response is submitted.  Is this a known bug or can I do something different to get this to work correctly?

    Hi,
You can attach a file by following these steps:
    1. Select the cell associated with the attachment field.
    2. Click on the "Table" selector on the left side of the toolbar.
    3. Click on the "Insert File" button, highlighted in red in the screenshot below.

  • Can I update with a CAB file after I installed BizTalk ?

Can I update my base configuration of BizTalk with a cab file after everthing is installed and configured ?
I missed installing it while I was installing BizTalk for the first time, now I want to update it with a CAB file. Is that possible ?

    Hi,
BizTalk Server relies on different products and technologies to provide essential services and features. CAB file contains softwares that are required by BizTalk server to
    successfully install on your computer.
You can select the cab file based on the edition and server you working with. Link below:
    Redistributable CAB Files
Now coming to your question, as I have mentioned above the CAB file contains the
    prerequisites
required for successful installation of BizTalk. While installing BizTalk on Redistributable
    prerequisites
screen you must have either manually or automatically installed the CAB file already.
If you have already successfully installed and configured BizTalk, I dont see any issue with the CAB file.
I don't buy that 90% consumption of the CPU is due to bad or wrong CAB file selected while installing BizTalk.
I would advise you to go through the below link:

from a disc? try to copy the photoshop folder from the disc to the desktop, then run setup from there. however, you might have a bad drive or a bad disc. if the setup from the desktop fails, try installing on another machine. if it still fails, the disc probably has a problem. if that works, maybe your drive needs replacing.

  • How to install MSFT application security updates in cab file format using DISM

    Hi,
I tried to install security updates for MS Office which are cab files like any other windows security updates cab file. It is giving an error called "file not found". But other windows security updates cab files are installing fine without any error.
I tried to install these updates manually using DISM on commandline. It is not installing. I even tried using pkgmgr.exe, but that is not working either. I looked at DISM logs which is saying it failed opening the cab file. I tried different other commandline
options of DISM to install this, but nothing else is suitable for a cab file install.
Does anyone know how to install a cab file for application security updates via DISM.exe or other MSFT commandline tools?
    Thanks,

You need to extract and install it - Refer this link

Regards Chen V [MCTS SharePoint 2010]

  • An error occurred while attempting to install the BizTalk application: Failed extracting CAB files.

    Ok I have a BizTalk Application that's called :
    FH.CCE.CDM.FinancieleOpdrachtLogistiekMiddel_v0200
I know that is a long name but why should I be punisched when I create an installer for that. I also have a WebService that exposes this schema. And this webservice is stored inside the MSI cab files. So far so good.
But now when I try to install this MSI alongside all my other MSI's I get the following message :
Failed to extract file "C:\Program Files\Generated by BizTalk\FH.CCE.CDM.FinancieleOpdrachtLogistiekMiddel_v0200\36FAA7B1-99DE-4AF6-A910-ED56D02D84EF\WebDirectory\-FH.CCE.CDM.FinancieleOpdrachtLogistiekMiddel_v0200.WES\App_Data\FH.CCE.CDM.FinancieleOpdrachtLogistiekMiddel_v0200.Schemas.FinancieleOpdrachtLogistiekMiddel_v0200.xsd".
    (Length=306)
The specified path, file name, or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters, and the directory name must be less than 248 characters., (NULL), (NULL), (NULL).
If i could install in C:\Program Files\Generated by BizTalk\FH.CCE.CDM.FinancieleOpdrachtLogistiekMiddel_v0200 but the extraction would take place in d:\temp or whatever, I would not have a problem. But unfortunately it extracts in a subdir of an already
    very long path......
Is there anybody who knows how to solve this... (can I tell the MSI to use D:\TEMP\ as an extract folder).
And using shorter names is not an option.

You can control the destination path of resources in your MSI by modifying them in the Resources folder of a BizTalk application.
%BTAD_InstallDir% defaults to C:\Program Files\Generated by BizTalk\... etc etc.  You can put in whatever you like here.
You can get more granular control over the resources by using the
    BTSTask.exe tool.
If you can tell me how to make the extract process of he cabs point to c:\temp i will be happy to use BTSTASK (wich i am already doing). But the problem is with the extraction oft he web service. It will extract to :
    C:\Program Files\Generated by BizTalk\FH.CCE.CDM.FinancieleOpdrachtLogistiekMiddel_v0200\36FAA7B1-99DE-4AF6-A910-ED56D02D84EF\WebDirectory\-FH.CCE.CDM.FinancieleOpdrachtLogistiekMiddel_v0200.WES\App_Data\FH.CCE.CDM.FinancieleOpdrachtLogistiekMiddel_v0200.Schemas.FinancieleOpdrachtLogistiekMiddel_v0200.xsd
Wich is just to long. I want the cabs to extract to c:\temp or something like that.....
