Is it possible to manage book collections on iTunes 11?

Hello -
I have collected a lot of books through the years and I know that I can put them into collections with my iPad. However, does anyone know if this can be done with iTunes 11? I have found many articles discussing how to do it on previous versions of iTunes, but iTunes 11 looks quite different. The help info I found showed a category column within the books, but now they this column doesn't seem to be there..
Any ideas?

To get back to the old look and way of working
View > Show Sidebar
View Show Status Bar
Click on black arrow in search box and untick Search Entire Library
Then select books from the left hand window. Select the List view.
If Category is not showing then right mouse click on the grey title bar and select category from the popup list. You should now have category listed.
View > Show Column Browser will help as well if you have Categories ticked

did you mean, iTunes Store and then Books? thats the only thing i can find (following your notes above).
what I am trying to do is add PDF documents to iBooks and organise them into collections.
however, i have found a work around:
1. transfer the PDFs to the library (they go into Books automatically)
2. highlight/select the PDFs that I want to group
3. right click, get info, info tab
4. create a Genre.
doing this method creates categories. not as good as collections, but this will do for now.
if anyone can tell me how to create collections for iBooks (using iTunes - not iBooks on the iPad); please reply.

I am curious, is it possible to read books dowloaded via ITunes for IBooks in my MacBook Pro?

Yes there is. Not by Apple yet but I have read the downloaded books (into iTunes library) using "caliber".
"calibre is a free and open source e-book library management application developed by users of e-books for users of e-books."
If necessary, you can also convert to another format (eg MOBI) so you can read on your Kindle or whatever...

Why can't I manage my iBook collections within iTunes?

Hi,
I manage my ebooks on my iOs devices within collections using the iBook app. I'm surprised to find that my iTunes software on my mac doesn't allow me to organize ebooks by collection though -- I have to do everything one at a time on the ipad. Very frustrating, and it seems like a very stupid design flaw.
Does anyone know how to manage collections via iTunes?

Yes, there is an Books tab. Great.
However, I can't seem to manage any collections via iTunes -- only on the iOs version of iBook. Since iTunes is meant to sync with iBook, then I would think that I could manage the core features such as collections via iTunes as well. This doesn't seem to be the case.
In short, is there a way to manage iBook collections via iTunes. Or.... do I need to go through my books (all 178 of them) one by one and manually place them into collections on my ipad -- which would be a huge pain.

Books transferred from Itunes to Ibooks loses author and category information.

How can I get author and category information for pdfs to transfer from itunes into the ibooks app on Mavericks? I just transferred my book collection from itunes to the ibooks app and have lost all the author and category information that I entered on all my pdfs. Do I now have to re establish this info in ibooks app? Ibooks doesn't appear to allow for creation of new categories or editing of author's name when it assigned unknown to all my pdfs. My book library appears to have been seriously downgraded by this "upgraded" os.

totally agree with you. Exactly the same here.
you can't re-establish this info in iBooks because it doesn't allow you to do it. No editing and organising at all (except from moving into a section of your choice).
In addition to no editing/changing, no backup/restore, no books/pdf location settings (all placed in user-library), etc. ... simply a complete disaster.
For me a killer-criteria to use OSX Mavericks! That forces me to move back to OS X mountain lion!
What did the Apple iBooks dev team think when creating this application? Come on this can't be true!

Safari Address Book Collection

In Safari 4.0.5 if you open bookmarks you see a set of collections, and then a set of bookmarks. One of the collections is titled Address Book. It came with three addresses for Apple. At some point in the past while on whatever version of Safari that came with OS 10.4 I managed to add three addresses which are no longer relevant to me. However I was unable to find a way to delete the entries. I tried highlighting the entry and hitting delete key. Didn't work. Tried highlighting and EDIT/DELETE from menu. DELETE was grayed out. I tried command, option control and combos of them while hitting delete. Didn't work. I tried dragging from the Safari Address Book collection to a bookmarks folder. It did copy the address to the bookmark folder where I could delete it but didn't move the original out of Address Book collection.
The add button is grayed out when in that collection so I can't add any new entries either. To add I tried dragging a card from the address book application to Safari. Didn't work.
So how do I add and delete addresses in this collection?
Any help gratefully appreciated.

Hi David
Those URL's are established in Apple's Address Book. Open Address Book, go to the particular address book entry, command/L keys to enter edit mode, or click the edit button at the bottom. Remove the URL, then Command/S keys to save.
Restart Safari. The entries ought to be gone now.
or
If you don't want to see the URL's in Safari but want to preserve the Address Book entry, go to Safari Preferences>Bookmarks panel and deselect Collections: Address Book at the bottom.

Managing child collection propery changes

I'm new to Flex and need help with managing child collection property changes, specifically notifying a parent object that a property within the child collection has changed.

How can I notify the Author when a Book propery has changed and update the dateOfFirstBookPublished method? Any assistance is appreciated.

My issue is when you create a page from a template they are not supposed to inherit the editable regions less otherwise marked.
But that is not true. A newly created child page will inherit ALL content from its template. But changes to the editable region contents in the template will NOT propagate to existing child pages.
So, for example, if I want all child pages to have an embedded stylesheet in the head that is EDITABLE, my template would look like this -

<style type="text/css">
</style>

All newly created child pages will then look like this -

<style type="text/css">
</style>

If I then go back to the template and change it like this -

<style type="text/css">
body { margin:0; }
</style>

that change will NOT propagate to existing child pages, but WILL appear in child pages created subsequently to the save of the template after the change.
And by the way, it's always been this way.

How do I add more than one pdf at a time to profile manager books? When I browse to my pdf folder I can only select one pdf at a time. I have 500+ pdf files I need to add. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

no, there is no way to do that, sorry. you need to control-click on every email address one at a time and select "add to address book". if an email is in the address book already that option will not be there.

This file was created in 2002 in MSword but this had been forgotten.
When I went to open it.... (MSword) was not a program option on my laptop. For some reason, I assumed that either Pages or Numbers wouild open the file. How the file was created was forgotten and had no file Info, but I new that it was a table of valuable information.
The warning threw me off, because it led me to believe that it was a Numbers file. which Numbers would not open. A paradox.
I took the file to a laptop in OSXpanther with MSoffice and it opened in MSword. Problem Solved.

You can move your iTunes library.. Apple have explicit instructions to do it. If the library is moved to the TC and accessed over wireless, the efficiency of the whole system will drop dramatically..
A file you download goes.. Modem---TC--Laptop--Back to TC--Store on disk. Double looping the wireless slows it dramatically..
As far as using TC for your iTunes.. you CAN.. but SHOULD YOU?

This is asked several times a day.. obviously people are struggling with their latest SSD being too small.
The TC is not suitable for network file server.. but many people having no choice press it into service as such.
It cannot be partitioned. It was and is and ever shall be a backup device for Time Machine.
Major issues.
1. No backup.. no way Time Machine can backup a network drive. No place to backup to.. So all your files will be at risk. And you will need to buy a third party like CCC to do backup.
2. The TC cannot be partitioned and mixing TM backups and data is not great.
3. The drive is slow to spin up and quick to spin down.. there is no controls.
4. iPhoto in particular can easily corrupt its entire library with wireless networking causing a disconnection to one photo. Even if you do this;;; do not move your photo library... you have been warned!!
5. iTunes will constantly lose connection to the library. The disk is too slow to respond.. itunes on the computer will constantly spit out errors. Even in the midst of streaming the TC can spin down the disk due to caching.
6. Do not use any live files on the TC no matter what else you do.. if you edit files in whatever program the file must be on the local hard disk.
7. The only suitable location for most libraries is a computer. You can plug in an external hard disk.

There are 3rd-party tools (see comprehensive list at http://www.kenhamady.com/bookmarks.html) that provide extra pdf functionality on top of the pdf export from Crystal.
In the case of my Visual CUT software, you can use hidden formulas inside your Crystal report to generate form fields (pre-populated as well as empty) as part of the pdf export process.

to be able to meet this requirement, you need to set up plan working load in admin tab for your resource, they need to update actual data based on the work completion, you will get status of work,
if you require email, you need to set-up scot, then develop a program with execution scheduling
