Is it possible to update attributes in all tables in a multi entity view

Hi I have a view based on 4 entities, all of which are a 3 of which are 1 to many relationship with the 4th. The 3 additional entities have 2 or 3 attributes, Id, name, and one entity has a foreign key relating to a different table which I do not care about. The IDs are all updatable in the entity, and none of them are generated from a sequence but are inserted manually, except for the 4th (Master?) which is generated from a sequence.
I create the view and all the entities are updatable, but in the view when I go to attributes from the other tables, it says updatable never and is grayed out so I cannot change it, even though in the entities tab, it is updatable always.
So I was wondering if this was possible to do???

I do not understand really, if it is 2 different tables, it is 2 different primary keys. Why would this even happen? What does it matter if EmployeeID and DepartmentID is both 1??? It just seems that there has to be a simpler way to do this but ok.
So I go to the AppModule, Java tab and go generate Java class. The original code was

On the first row the getObjektiCRUDView1() is underlined and it says missing method body or declare as abstract.
I know I did something wrong here but I have no idea what as I am not very good with Java
Also it is not a jsf page, I create a single jspx page and divided it using the panel splitter so on one side we have an adf table for updating the Objekti database table, and on the other side I have an adf form for updating the Positions table (and later on other tables, I hope to have many forms there)

Possible?Multi-Entity View Object with one Entity Object that is Read-only.

I know this sounds crazy, but I would like to create a multi-entity view object, where one entity object is based on a table in my application (we'll call it "Users", which basically stores the primary key for the person from the institutional people database), and the other table is a entity object based on a view of the institutional people database table (read only access), which we can call "People".
I know that since no updates will be done to the People table, it really should be a read-only View Object, but I would lose the ability to sort on attributes like Last Name, Hire date, etc, since those would be transient attributes in my ViewObject for the Users. By having People as an entity object, I can then create a multi entity view object and have the ability to join Users to People and be able to sort on the above mentioned fields (like Last Name).
The problem is that when I use the JDev (I'm currently using 10.1.2.1) AppModule BC4J tester, when I click on the multi-entity view object that I added to the AppModule it gives me an error:
oracle.jbo.RowCreateException) JBO-25017: Error while creating a new entity row for People.
----- LEVEL 1: DETAIL 0 -----
(java.lang.InstantiationException) null
I have tried to change all the attributes to updateable in my entity object, but no create method, and I have tried to make them all read-only, but no effect, I get the same error (probably because the People view is read-only in my schema).
Is there a way to change the entity object so that it will not try to create a new row when it runs the Tester? So that the multi entity view object behaves more like a view link, but gives me the added bonus of being able to sort on the Last Name column from the People table?
Thanks for any help on this subject...at worst, I will have to use the view link method to get the job accomplished, but it would be "cooler" if this would work!

To answer your questions, I was trying to create the Multi-entity View Object to give me more flexibility when working with my User table, and my People view. The flexibility I desired was that I would be able to sort my Users based on attributes in the People view. This is not possible when the there is only one Entity in my VO, and the People view data are all transient attributes, because they are not in the SQL statement.
Ultimately, after working with one of my colleagues, we decided to use the approach that you mentioned by creating a read-only VO with the SQL query we want to display to the user (contains both User and People data fields), and then use a different ViewObject when performing other actions on the User Table (such as inserts/updates/deletes). By using the setWhereClauseParam() method in the handleLifeCycle() for the JSP page, we should be able to navigate between the different View Objects, so that the user does not see any difference.

Any way to update attribute in all Items of an Item Type ?

Is there any way an attribute in all items publish of a single item type?
I want to change all File Items so that they open in a New Browser.
Please note: This is not for all items that we will publish going forward, just for the current items. I dont want to go back in and update items one-at-a-time.

Hi Mike,
Go to Navigator>Shared Objects>Contents>Custom Types>Item Types. From there select the Item Type you want to change (probably file).
From here click on the 'Attributes' tab and make sure that the Display Option is in the Selected Attributes box. Then look for Display Option under the Attribute Properties section and change 'Full Browser Window link' to 'New Browser Window Link'.
I hope this helps. I haven't tested it but I think it should do the trick. If you want file items that you create in the future to behave differently then you will have to create another item type based on File but keep the Display Option set to 'Full Browser Window link'.

Fastest way to update column in all tables of schema

In our schema we have two columns ColA and ColB common in all tables in our schema.
Suppose these columns have values as below in all tables
ColA     ColB
A1     B11
A12     B22
ABC     DEF
Now we have to update ColA and ColB where we have alphanumeric values in all tables, some tables have few hundred records and some tables have millions of records.
Could you gurus suggest me with a fastest way to acheive this.
What we are thinking is to write a procedure where we can input multiple tables which could be updated simultaneously and make a collection within procedure with following values
ColA     ColA_R     ColB     ColB_R
A1     aa     B11     bb
A12     aaa     B22     bbb
ABC     No Update DEF     No Update
So whenever we have value matching A1 update it with value aa if we have value matching B11 update it with value bb and so on.
Your inputs are welcome so that to acheive this in fastest manner.

I would be tempted to do it something like this:
Create an index organized table for the cola updates (old_val, new_val) with a PK on old_val and another one for the colb Values. This could possibliy be a single table, depending on how many distinct values there were for cola and colb and if you are sure that "But if colA and colB have value A1 then it will be updated with aa".
Then do the updates as an updateable join view something like:
UPDATE (SELECT t1.cola, iot.new_val
        from tab1 t1, new_values_iot iot
        where t1.cola = iot.old_val)
SET cola = new_valThis would require two rounds of updates, one for cola and one for colb, but they could be parallelized somewhat by distributing the tables to be updated through several pl/sql blocks each updating a different set of tables.
You may be able to do it in a single query like:
UPDATE (SELECT t1.cola, t1.colb, iota.new_val new_vala, iotb.new_val new_valb
        from tab1 t1, new_values_iot iota, new_values_iot iotb,
        where t1.cola = iota.old_val and
              t1.cola = iotb.old_val)
SET cola = new_vala,
    colb = new_valbHowever, given that you said there were some values in both cola and colb that did not require updating, that may not work since the join will fail on one of cola or colb if that value is not in the IOT, so you will not get all of the rows updated. If, and it is a big if, either both of cola and colb or neither of cola annd colb need to be updated in a single row, it might work. So, looking at your original examples (ABC and DEF do not require updates but A1 does), if there could be as case where cola = 'A1' and colb = 'DEF' then you will have to do it in two updates per table.

Updating a Multi Entity view object to add row only to child entity

I have a View object VO1 made of multiple entities e.g. EO1 and EO2 which have a composition association with cardinality 1 is to many EO1 being the entity corresponding to parent table and EO2 is the child table. All the entities in the association are updatable.
The data is displayed using VO1 on the page. So for each row in child table, parent table attributes are dispalyed correctly due to the join condition.
If I create a new record on the VO1 iterator using the create operation binding and save it, it correctly saves a new record in header table and related child table.
Now I need to provide with one more create operation on the page such that when user can add a child row for the existing header row using the same screen.
Essentially I need a create operation which, on selecting a row from the displayed table which is based on VO1 , creates a new row in the VO1 iterator such that the EO1 attributes are pre filled with the header table information from the selected row and the child attributes can be added by the user and submitted.
Tried Using create with params on VO1 by passing the header information, this lets me enter the data on screen just the way its required ,but this obviously only tries to add a new record to header table with the existing primary key itself and the operation fails on save giving duplicate key error for the header table.
Unable to figure out where to change the default behavior to fetch a exisitng entity rather than create a new entity in the header table entity object for this multiple entity VO1.

Lokesh has given good input but user.setLocale("EN"); may not work as such because method setLocale
public boolean setLocale(java.util.Locale locale).
does not accept String parameter.
I tried it following way and it worked for me.

Locale deLocale = new Locale("de", "DE");
user.setLocale(deLocale);
user.commit();
Obviously, "userid" needs to be replaced with a real User ID.

Using "Update All Mapped Fields" with multi-value attributes

Is it possible to update a value in a multi-value attribute through the import manager? It appears that if a source value is different then it just gets added as another value to the record.
For example, a product has an attribute of speed which is measured in revolutions/minute. Some products can be rated at two speeds (i.e. 1800/3600).
I created a numeric attribute for speed and enable only nominal rating and selected multi-valued.
In import manager, I set "/" as multi delimiter for source field. This created two entries in destination attribute, 1800 and 3600.
However, if on subsequent imports the speed values changes for this record (i.e. 1200 and 1800) then I will now have 1200, 1800, and 3600 as values for this record.
Would the proper solution be to create two individual numeric attributes that are single valued (i.e. Speed1 and Speed2)?

Hi Aaron,
in your example it would make sense to use two different attributes called "Speed1" and "Speed2". Using the multi value option, MDM allows you to store a list of values into a single field. This list is more or less unlimited, you can add as many values as you like. A change of an existing value is not possible. The reason is that Import Manager does not know, which value you've changed! So it simply adds the "new" record (which is the 1200 in your example) to your value list. This is the intended behaviour of the "update all mapped fields option". If you really want to replace the values, you can check if the "Replace" option is useable for you. But note, that the replace will replace the complete existing record with the incoming new one. This means if the product you want to import with the replace option is smaller than the existing one (maybe it does not contain values for all segments), you'll loose data in MDM.

Define your master data characteristics as a infoprovider.
Create a update rule on Characteristic with ODS as a source and do general mapping.

I uninstalled the new QT version, and reinstalled the old QT 7 but the Pro functions were still unavailable, so , I had to reinstal Windows to get my Pro functions back. This happened quite a while ago, but every time I get the "Update" message, I am afraid to launch it.

All I can say is that the problem you experienced is not by design but was instead some sort of technical fault, either in QuickTime or in Windows. I've upgraded QuickTime for Windows a number of times, to various new versions of QuickTime 7, and it's never removed my Pro key. My guess, and this is strictly a guess, is that something corrupted the preference file where the Pro key is held, disabling the Pro features and not allowing you to re-enter your key. Since you reinstalled Windows, I would expect that future updates to QuickTime will go without problem, and if for some reason the Pro features are ever removed, re-entering your Pro key should get them back.
