Is it yet possible to upgrade the internal hard drive on a 13" Macbook Pro with Retina Display?
Hi all,
I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014) with a 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, a 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory and a 128GB built in flash storage drive.
I do a lot of video and sound work requiring a lot of space however 128GB is just not enough. When purchasing the MacBook I was hopeful that the built in drive could possibly be upgraded to at least 512GB of storage. I have read many blogs and forums suggesting that there is work being made on a replaceable drive however I have not seen any evidence of this being confirmed. Could someone possibly let me know if this is yet possible as I would urgently like to upgrade if so.

Hi I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade the graphics card on a MacBook Pro and the RAM without voiding the warranty? I have a gt 650m in my MacBook Pro, non retina, and to me, its not enough power for me, so i was looking around, and I found a retailer that would give me a nvidia gtx 660m for a decent price. Also, the ram needs to be at least 12gbs, to ensure that my computer would run fast.

Thankyou.No, the video card cannot be exchanged - you have a pretty decent GPU there; not sure why you'd want to switch it out. You can upgrade the RAM to a maximum of 16GBs. Apple recommends upgrading in matching pairs, so I don't really think I'd try 4GB and 8GB stick.
Both Crucial and OWC have memory available for the new Macs. Both are reputable dealers and know Macs well and I would only buy from these sources (and I would buy Crucial, were it me).
Although your Mac didn't come with a users manual outlining the installation of the additional RAM, you can download the late 2011 model users guide as the models themselves are almost identical.

I would like some info from anyone regarding upgrading RAM on my macbook pro (13inch, late 2011 model) from 4GB to 8GB. Will the notebok support 8GB and if so, is it something that you can do yourself or should it be taken to an Apple store ?
Also, my notebook currently has a 320GB hard-disk drive, that I would like to swap for a 320GB/480GB SSD. Again, which models are compatible with my notebook, and whether I can swap it out myself, or should I let an Apple technician at the store do it for me?
Thanks and regards to all ..Yes. You can upgrade that machine to 8 GB. I have the same machine. I think you can do 16 GB but the RAM is quite a bit more money. You can do it yourself with a small enough screwdriver. I doubt the Apple Store would install 3rd party RAM and you don't want to pay Apple prices for it.
A hard drive is about the same. Once you open the case, you can replace both. I suggest OWC. They have the tools, instructions, the RAM, the hard drives, etc. They even sell external enclosure kits so you can upgrade your internal drive and use the old drive an an external for archiving data. -
Have a Macbook Pro and a 4th gen iPod Touch. Downloaded and install iOS 4.3.2 yesterday. Upgrade went without a hitch, but now iTunes on My Macbook Pro will not open. MacBook Airs are designed with a purpose that differentiates them from the rest of the Macbook line. That is to place weight and size reduction at one of the highest of priorities. In doing so, compromises have to be made. Upgradeable memory takes up addional space, in that it requires acessability and a slot interface, bot of which would add both weight and dimensional size to accomodate it. By making the memory an integral part of the logicboard, the computer can be made thinner.
So, when you buy somthing of the MBA's form factor, you have to pay special attention to buying the computer with all the options available at time of purchase that you & the computer will ever need, where those components are not upgradeable for space and weight consideration.
The MacBook Air, despite the desire, is not just a shrunken MacBook Pro. Space and weight savings is of a higher priority than is upgradeability in the MBA. -

Since your Mac probably came with 10.4, there is no longer a way to get 10.5 Leopard install media. IF it has the requirements, you may be able to upgrade to 10.6 Snow Leopard by buying the boxed install media at the Apple Store for $30.
