Is iWeb 09 for Tiger as well as Leopard ?

Well- that's all I wanted to ask !
I use 10.4.11 + Tiger, and didn't really want to update because I know that both 10.5 and Leopard were not fully compatible with Logic Studio, which I use daily.
However, I received a strong tip that it's much easier to upload to the internet with iWeb 09
Thanks,

Maybe installation on Leopard is only a suggestion.
Welcome to the discussions. The URL above links to a document entitled: +"iLife ’09 System Requirements"+ — not "Suggestions". Apple also says:
iLife ’09 requires Mac OS X version 10.5.6 or later...
...in this Apple doc: _iLife ’09 Shipping January 27_.

What happens when you try to install it on Tiger?
Presumably the installation process would disallow the installation of iLife '09 components on Tiger — so that the system is not compromised.

I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667/applejack
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 6 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files! :-)
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.

  • If 10.4.8 is the latest update for Tiger and 10.5 is Leopard..?

If 10.4.8 is the latest update for Tiger and 10.5 is Leopard, What happens for us Tiger folks as far as updates? Do we get a 10.4.9??? Then what...do we just fade away? Thanks, Bill

OK, now that we know you're really serious about that:
Very likely there'll be a 10.4.9 update before 10.5 comes out, but that doesn't mean it's the last update ever to Tiger. There will still be plenty of updates for different parts of the system (i.e. Safari, Security Updates, etc.). There will just not be any additional "system update" which is basically a large collection of these single updates.

  • Logic & Tiger vs. Logic & Leopard

Is it risky to install Logic Studio if I don't have the latest version of Mac? I'm reading directions & it says "If necessary, you should update your system software to ensure you have the latest version of Mac OS X."
I have Tiger 10.4.11 -- but will it be a problem receiving Logic updates if I don't have Leopard?
    Thanks!!

It hasn't been so far, no reason to think that it would be in the future- I mean, Logic 9 will be not able to run on Power PC or Tiger I can only imagine, but the version "8"'s should be good to go with the setup you have.
It's also the same OS that I have, so I wouldn't worry about it. And with the announcement of Snow Leopard, I wouldn't go out of my way to buy Leopard- if it comes on a new computer you but, then so be it- but I wouldn't make an actual effort to get it. It's a fine OS, but I haven't really heard of any huge performance benefits or speed inherent to Leopard itself, and a lot of people have said it isn't working for them very well at all. But that's just because there is so much growing pains associated with Apple's rapid development in the world of hardware, some big changes to its operating system and some of the pro apps as well- you know, there are bound to be some hiccups. But I'd rather deal with that than be part of what is looking increasingly more and more 20th century- Microsoft and the PC.
In short, and it seems I never am, stick with Tiger until you upgrade your computer or are absolutely forced to.

  • Will there be a Security Update 2009-006 for Tiger PPC

Apple released Security Update 2009-006 for Leopard today, but not for Tiger.
Is there going to be any more support and updates for Tiger, since Snow Leopard came out?

    Chicken!
    Hahahahah, yeah....
Actually, I just tried to reply to your message using Safari 4.0.4 and repeatedly got this error:
    Request Timeout
The server timed out while waiting for the browser's request.
    Reference #2.4da21160.1258046993.0
It did that with another page too, but is loading others fine. I am wondering if there is an issue. I may have to downgrade to 3 again, if that is possible.
I got used to using Firefox because I just upgraded from OS X 10.3.9 and had to use Safari 2.x, which doesn't work so well with the web anymore.

  • Quicktime 7.4.5 for Tiger?

    Hi all,
I suffered the dreaded jerky playback with the QT7.5 "upgrade", so I reverted to 7.4.1 using Pacifist.
Problem is iTunes now says I need QT 7.4.5 to watch videos I have purchased, and if I open those videos in QT 7.4.1, apart from just getting a grey screen, I am told that I need to re-authorise my computer to play this content, even though if I do that in iTunes I am told my machine is already authorised.
    Two questions:
    1. I could not find a QT 7.4.5 on the Apple site for Tiger - only for Leopard. I clearly recall my QT was auto-updated to 7.4.5 a few months back so what is the URL to download the right version?
    2. How do I re-authorise my iTunes content so that I can play it (or will getting 7.4.5 fix it?
    Thanks muchly...

It is possible that something in either your pre-existing setup or your method of installing updates, are the root causes of whatever problems you are having with QT 7.5 particularly with choppy playback. Out of date plug-ins and add-ons could also be playing a part. Some users have found choppy playback to be associated with improperly loaded plug-ins and add-ons from third party vendors as well as those included by Apple with prior versions of Quicktime.
Third-party add-ons include DivX, Flip4Mac, or FLV components, while the included plug-ins are AppleIntermediateCodec.component, and AppleMPEG2Codec.component. The files for these are located in the root library, therefore a faulty component will load improperly for all users, resulting in choppy playback even when a user creates a new account. Some may need updating or just reinstalling to work with QT 7.5.
    You should therefore:
Remove and re-add all quicktime components and plug-ins.
    Navigate to /Library/QuickTime/
Move all plug-in ".component" files from the folder (to the Desktop, for instance)
Launch QuickTime and quit it again
Place the ".component" files back in the QuickTime library folder
Launch QuickTime again, and the choppiness should be better.
A few more things to try but in each case first close all applications and repair permissions.
1 Try opening then closing GarageBand, or launching then quitting the "Audio MIDI Setup" application located in Applications/Utilities. Failing that, go back to Audio MIDI Setup, and under the Audio Devices tab, make sure the Audio Output Format is 44100.0 2ch-16bit.
    Restart your Mac.
2 Go to the Library on your main hard disk and find the Internet Plug-Ins folder. Try removing the following files:
    QuickTime plugin.plugin
    Quicktime plugin.webplugin
    Restart your Mac.
    Re-install the Quicktime 7.5 update
Go to Home/Library/Receipts and delete the file Quicktime 7.5 pkg.
Download from the Download page on the Apple site the correct version of Quicktime 7.5 for your Mac.
Install it and restart your Mac. Repair permissions.
3 If still no luck, it is time to look carefully at your plug-ins and add-ons. The safest way is to download and re-install all of them. The ones you need in order to see and hear virtually everything the web has to offer are:
RealPlayer 11 (which is no longer in beta) for Mac from:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15540
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.
Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.)
You should also ensure that you have downloaded and installed all the correct version for your Mac of all recent Security Updates.
(N.B. Security Updates require both a restart and a permission repair.)
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
There is an additional 'fix' you could try if you are having problems with Flash and Quicktime, depending on which type of Mac you have:
On Intel Macs, make sure that you are not running Safari in Rosetta. You can check this, and change it, in the Get Info window.
On PPC Macs, go to the Hard Disk/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, and drag the file 'QuickTime Plugin.webplugin' to the desktop. Quit and restart Safari. If things have improved you can trash that file. If they haven't put it back, as the lack of this plug-in can cause QT content in some widgets to cease functioning.
If none of the foregoing worked, then you should consider and archive and install before repeating all of the above.
Note that most users experiencing these problems have reported that the Quicktime update 7.5.5, and the security update 2008-006, cured the problem.
Lack of free space on your hard disk can also cause 'choppy playback'.

  • Is time running out for Tiger?

Not sure if this is the right forum, but I'm getting a little edgy as time goes by -
I get on fine with Tiger and am not too happy about going through the hassle (and cost) of upgrading to Leopard. Obviously upgrades have long finished for Tiger but Leopard goes on improving in minor ways (I imagine).
Can anyone tell me if Tiger is likely to meet a nasty end soon (I had this problem with OS9 some years ago)?
And, apart from this, could I have a brief summary as to why moving to Leopard would be a good idea as far as function is concerned?

Your newer software upgrades may be where costs could be a little tall,
if you should need to continue using professional apps and find they
may be way out of date (since some don't find support in Snow Leopard)
so budget on that contingency and perhaps some of the ones you use
won't be orphan-ware at a time when you'd otherwise not expect it.
To have and use an older computer for offline or local use, along with a
time capsule of vintage apps, may be fine; but if your use includes a
form of production or shared works over a network (local or internet)
then another matter arises, in being compatible.
Also, software updates, security updates, and other items are part of
the support picture where an operating system and associated hardware
can be expected to keep up to a level of that compatibility in business
and to be able to connect to the ever evolving internet.
One way to upgrade, is to get a later model computer which includes
the recent OS X and is very well suited to running it; maybe a nice
last model well proven Mac from the online Store's refurbished deals?
Or an all-new model from the online store. Some authorized resellers
may have an older model and not that great a deal, when the actual
Apple store or online one, has the most recent for a better overall deal.
My antiques are chugging along OK at the present, but I do have the
last OS X version and other software suited for their last upgrade steps
so the expectation at some point, would be a hardware failure costing
more than the actions involved in a repair, given the vintage involved.
And the lack of apps, utilities, updates, and security; new browsers,
Flash/Shockwave and other support, etc; is always moving onward.
So, to set up another computer and adopt the latest OS X and apps
then start migrating your work over as best you can, is one idea. At
some point, you could also use one of your ancient Macs to run a
variant unix freeware system, an experiment; just because it's possible.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Safari for Tiger will not open

I downloaded the latest Safari for Tiger 3.1 package for Mac OSX 10.4.11. After instlling the first time, it was not sucessful, and now my old 3.0 will not open, nor will the package for the new 3.1.
I have rebooted, used my disk utility to check for any problems, and tried many times. I cannot use any Safari at this time.
    Please help.

If your Safari keeps crashing, or if you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers and other plug-ins from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed 10.4.11 and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari.
Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4 or, if you downloaded it, Safari 3.0.3 beta. Safari 10.4.11 used Safari 3.0.4 which was not a beta, and now Safari 3.1. If Safari 3.1 on 10.4.11 is not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
(Trying to revert to Safari 2 when running 10.4.11 can have repercussions, as Safari 3.0.4 and 3.1 use a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail, Dashboard Widgets etc also rely.)
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Add-on that have been frequently mentioned here, among others, for causing such problems are Piclens, Saft, AcidSearch and Pithhelmet. If you have them, trash them and go the developer's sites to see if new versions are available for Safari 3.1.
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11, that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2008-002. Like all security updates, this requires a restart and a permission repair.
As Leopard also uses Safari 3.0.4, much of the above may well also apply to Leopard, but is not guaranteed. Moreover:
Some users have mentioned that the latest Flash Player (v.9.0.115.0) conflicts with Safari in Leopard, and that they have needed to revert to v. 9.0.47. This can be downloaded from here:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14266&sliceId=1
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
    • /Library/InputManagers
    • ~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).

  • Tiger's iCal on Leopard??

I've been toying with the idea, anyone try this and was it successful? I'm curious if I just drag iCal from Tiger over to my Leopard machine, since they use entirely different file structures, would Tiger's iCal work on Leopard without interference from the other.

Well, I decided to try it for myself and got this error message:
"You cannot use this version of the application iCal-t with this version of Mac OS X."
    So much for that idea.
FYI, I renamed the file "iCal-t" just in case there was a conflict with the name. Obviously it doesn't matter.

  • Aluminum Keyboard Update for Tiger users???

Why isn't the Aluminum Keyboard Update available for Tiger users? Some of us cannot upgrade to Leopard yet due to other third-party software we need to run. My computer is still under AppleCare, and the keyboard is brand new, but has the repeating key problem. Apple has a fix, but it's not being made available for an OS they are supposedly still supporting. BTW, I bought this new keyboard because the old one wore out. But I don't have full, proper functionality of it because of lack of support by Apple. What gives??
    Thanks, Claire

I took my keyboard to the Apple Store and was told that the "firmware" update was actually software that resided on the computer, not something that downloaded to the device, like every other "firmware" update I've ever heard of. So I guess I'm out of luck and will have to keep going back to correct my repeated letters until I can quit having to run Quark 6.5 and can upgrade to Leopard. I don't understand why they're calling it firmware if it isn't reprogramming the device itself. I guess I can try turning off the repeat function for the keyboard in the System Prefs as well and see if that's a workaround.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Is it possible to upgrade from Tiger (10.4) to Leopard (10.5)? Thanks

Wondering if I can upgrade from TIger to Leopard (and then to Lion) on my old Macbook. Don't really want to buy a new notebook when this one works fine. But would like to use some of the features available through Lion (notably iCloud). Thanks.

    Hello Judy,
You'd want to skip Leopard/10.5.x totally as it's not needed & expensive since Apple no longer sells it & it was $129.
You can get Snow Leopard/10.6 for $29, then once updated to 10.6.6 or greater buy Lion/10.7 from the App Store, as long as your MacBook meets the requiremenys...
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 2GB at least)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...
    http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/
It looks like they might still have it...
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA
    If it's a core Duo & not a Core2Duo, then it'll only run in 32 bit mode.
    Lion/101.7 System requirements
        •    x86-64 processor (Macs with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5, Intel Core i7, or Xeon processor.)
        •    At least 2GB of memory[14]
        •    Latest version of Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8), with the Mac App Store installed
        •    At least 4GB of disk space for downloading[14]
Like Snow Leopard, Lion does not support PowerPC-based Macs (e.g., Power Macs, PowerBooks, iBooks, iMacs (G3-G5), eMacs).
Lion also does not support 32-bit Intel Core Duo or Core Solo based Macs. Rosetta is no longer available in Lion, which means Lion no longer supports PowerPC applications.

  • Macbook Pro Tiger to Macbook Pro Leopard

I just purchased a new MBP with Leopard and need to move my itunes library and iphoto library from my Tiger MBP to my Leopard MBP.
Everything else will be re-installed. I really don't have that much installed and I have the dmg's backed up so re-install will be fairly easy.
What's the easiest way to do this? Can I just copy the itunes folder and iphoto folder to an external hard disk and then copy to my Leopard MBP?

I am not that technical in my style of explaining how to's, but this is what i ended up doing to copy my music from itunes from my old computer to my new computer.
If you have an external hard drive and can copy to that, i would open up the hard drive icon on the tiger mbp, and open up the icon with the house and that has your user name on it.
then copy the music folder and pictures folders and whatever other folders you want onto your external hard drive.
then i would copy from your hard drive to the new computer, your music folder over the the same music folder and pictures folder that you can find on your new computer's house icon part.
sorry for the lack of technical language, but that is the best way i can describe what i did to copy my old stuff to my new MBP.
    hope that helps.

  • Migration assistant update for Mac OS X Snow Leopard

Hello -- I downloaded SNOW LEOPARD successfully that past week. I did a software update as well afterwards.
Now in preparation for upgrading to LION OS X, I read an article that mentions one must make sure to have the MIGRATION ASSISTANT UPDATE for Mac OS X Snow Leopard installed. I am unsure if this was included in the software updates I performed. One would assume it would be there. BUT there is not a detailed listing of what these combination updates include. HOW can I tell if I have the desired version required to continue on to LION?
Another suggestion was for one to perform FIRST AID on the start up disk. It only says to select your Mac HD and then to "verify" ..... do they mean to VERIFY DISK or VERIFY DISK PERMISSIONS. I have on occasion performed a REPAIR DISK PERMISSIONS but not the others mentioned. I do not know what the difference is?
    THANK YOU

I have the same console mesages repeating ad-nasium as you do. What is interesting is I do have the StartuoItems directory but it is empty. The problem I have is that the log-in window comes up as normal, but I can not type in it for about 5-8 seconds. This has started after the latest updates which you mention. Don't know if this issue is related or not. Have deleted the loginwindows and loginitems preferences to no effect.

  • Going from Tiger OS to Snow Leopard OS - Will it work?

If this has been previously discussed I apologize.  RIght now I'm running Tiger & want to bypass Leopard (too expensive) & go directly to Snow Leopard.  Will I be able to do this?  I just want to make sure before I order the software from Apple.
    Thanks in advance!

Short answer ... yes, very doable
SL needs Intel processor, 1 GB memory minimum (some would argue 2 GB is a better fit, if possible).
Make a very good backup (preferably a clone) of your current drive before yo upgrade in case the unthinkable happens.
Some would say that is too big a jump for upgrade and you just use the full-install SL disk (Apple Store Online $29) for a "new install", and use Migration assistant to pull certain items from the clone.

Apple discontinued BootCamp beta last year. They have all expired and no longer work.
    It was a beta program.
You need to purchase Leopard in order to install BootCamp and get the updates.
You can also install Winders without BootCamp using a virtual program like Parallels or using the free bootmanager, rEFIt. Either of these will allow you to install Winders, Linux or any other OSs on your HD, but you are on your own if you take that route.
The only support path is using Leopard.
