Is JavaFX 1.3 FXD Specification obsolete?

The FXD specification published here ( [http://java.sun.com/javafx/1.3/docs/fxdspec/|http://java.sun.com/javafx/1.3/docs/fxdspec/] ) states "FXD documents must have a single root element, and this root element must always be FXD. The FXD element can only occur in the root position..."
But both the samples from the "JavaFX 1.3 Production Suite" and the latest NetBeans use something like this: "Group {content: []}", i.e., the "Group" being the root.
Is the specification obsolete?

No, its rather the other way around. The samples and NetBeans have not been yet updated according to the latest spec. The fxd loader can handle the old syntax, but the new one is preferred for new documents. All documents created from Production Suite already use the FXD root construction.

  • FXD and scene serialization

    FXD is a format that is used to import a graph of nodes into a scene.
    I want to do the reverse. I want to save a graph of nodes to FXD and all I have is a scene.
    I want build a simple javafx designer and FXD seems to be the perfect serialization format.
    Is this possible? or will it be possible?

    Greg Brown wrote:
    That's not entirely accurate. Depending on your use case, you might be able to use FXMLLoader for this. It won't write a scene graph out, but it can be used to read one in. So, for example, you could generate FXML on a server and deserialize it on the client using FXMLLoader.I'll try it, thanks.

    The alert message is just telling you that a specific feature won't use the GPU. This message is innocuous. It only means that the processing of one specific, obsolete feature will use the CPU, not the GPU.
    Are you saying that After Effects won't start or open your project?

  • [svn] 3418: Remove obsolete poll-sync responders from PollingChannel and other impacted protocol-specific channels .

    Log Message:
    Remove obsolete poll-sync responders from PollingChannel and other impacted protocol-specific channels.
    QA: No
    Doc: No
    Checkintests Pass: Yes
    This stuff was originally used by a PollingChannel to directly monitor subscribe/unsubscribe commands issued by higher-level components in order to drive a count of active subscriptions, and from that, whether or not the channel needed to issue poll requests.
    However, DataService, and then Consumer ended up managing this directly because they had better insight into when they considered themselves subscribed and they notify the PollingChannel of their state changes directly (mx_internally). When this was added, the underlying poll-sync responder machinery didn't go away, and it generally doesn't cause problems except in the case of a client disconnect without a preceding explicit unsubscribe. In this case the higher level component moves to an unsubscribed state when it disconnects (and lets the PollingChannel know) but because no unsubscribe command is sent by a poll-sync responder, the extra count it added never decrements and the channel continues to poll incorrectly.

  • Unable to set JNLP file more specifically then version 1.6+ for JavaFX

    The jnlp files produced for my JavaFX by NetBeans or the Eclipse plugin have <j2se version="1.5+"/>. When I launch my JavaFX applet from a page in my web-app, on machines with versions of java prior to ~1.6.0_14 the applet doesn't display. To try to force a Java update, I've been experimenting with the j2se version entry. I've got 1.6.0_16 on my development machine, and tried <j2se version="1.6.0_16+"/> and <j2se version="1.6.0.16+"/> to test out the jnlp. I expected that the applet would launch on my development machine, but the instead the java console stated that the version doesn't exist and the applet didn't display. I tried <j2se version="1.6.0_14+"/>, and I was warned that installing 1.6.0_14 would be a downgrade; I expected that my later version of java would pass the test and simply run the applet. What should I be using for the jnlp j2se version value to run properly such that a proper java update dialog is presented when necessary, and the applet just runs when the machine has a proper version of java installed?

    Hi,
    Try these 3 solutions
    1. Did you start vncserver services as:
    service vncserver start
    2.Check that port 5901 has not been blocked by a firewall:
    # nc -vz localhost 5901
    You should get a connection and a termination. If you get an error, fix the firewall.
    3. service iptables stop
    Hope This Helps
    Regards,
    -DK

  • Issue with DataApp Sample in JavaFX.

    Okay so I downloaded the Samples pack here http://jdk8.java.net/download.html or here http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk7-downloads-1880260.html at the bottom.
    Inside is one called DataApp which requires setting up an SQL DB, and connecting to it.
    In Netbeans8 I get an error about not having RestLib api inside the DataAppClient which according to the setup DataAppClient - The JavaFX 2.0 client application. inside there you can see a package with packages that wont import such as
    import com.sun.jersey.api.client.Client;
    import com.sun.jersey.api.client.UniformInterfaceException;
    import com.sun.jersey.api.client.WebResource;
    import com.sun.jersey.api.json.JSONConfiguration;
    So why am I in a Java 8 samples pack needing FX 2? Though I'm not sure if it's FX8 yet, I just didn't think the 2.0 client would work.
    So I tried Netbeans 7.3 to see if it would work. At first the DataAppClient was fine, but I see the DataAppPreloader will not run because it uses Package javafx.something which apparently is new in Java 8.....
    So now I'm stuck, wondering why Restlib doesn't exist... I looked it up, and it says it's used for Web services, but I don't have it, nor does it say to install it in the readme.
    not existing, which I guess has to do with the RestLib?
    Anyone have any ideas?
    EDIT: So I just downloaded the version for FX2, and I am still getting the same error when I run it, though nothing shows "errors" in the packages. Maybe I just needed to run it correctly for it to work, so not what is this error tellingme
    Creating "dataapp" user and "APP" database...

    NetBeans Projects for the Sample
    Licensing
    Prerequisites
    You must have the following software installed to run the DataApp sample:
    Java SDK 1.6.0_24 or later
    Available at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html.
    JavaFX 2.0 SDK or later
    Available at http://javafx.com/downloads/all.jsp.
    MySQL 5.5 or later
    Available at http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/.
    You need to know the root password for your installation.
    Netbeans 7.1 with Java EE and GlassFish 3.1.1 or later
    Available at http://netbeans.org/downloads/.
    Run the NetBeans installer to install NetBeans and GlassFish to the default locations.
    Setting Up the DataApp Sample
    Install the MySQL drivers into GlassFish.
    Manually copy the mysql-connector-java-5.1.13-bin.jar file from the netbeans-install-dir\ide\modules\ext\ to the glassfish-install-dir/glassfish/lib directory, where netbeans-install-dir and glassfish-install-dir are the directories into which the products were installed. For example, on Windows the install directory for products is typically in the C:\Program Files\ or C:\Program Files (x86)\ directories.
    Open the following DataApp projects in NetBeans by selecting File ->Open Project and navigating to the location of the DataApp sample:
    DataAppClient
    DataAppLibrary
    DataAppLoader
    DataAppPreloader
    DataAppServer
    Configure and create the database (only needs to be done once):
    In NetBeans, right-click the DataAppLoader project.
    Select Run.
    Enter your MySQL root password when prompted.
    Wait until you see the message that the build has successfully finished, which takes approximately 5 to 15 minutes.
    Running the Sample
    Start the server:
    In NetBeans, right-click the DataAppServer project.
    Select Run.
    Wait until a browser window opens that says: YOU ARE DONE!
    (Optional) Start the standalone client:
    In NetBeans, right-click the DataAppClient project.
    Select Run.
    NetBeans Projects for the Sample
    DataAppLibrary - Contains the following data:
    Database tables
    ORM model to database tables
    DataAppLoader - Application that is run once to perform the following tasks:
    Creates the database.
    Loads all of the static data for the data app.
    Creates some historical data.
    DataAppServer - Web server that performs the following tasks:
    Simulates auto sales and persists them to the database.
    Provides access to the database through web services.
    DataAppClient - The JavaFX 2.0 client application.

    I found the same issue but resolved it by myself. The user table of the MySQL changed, my guess. You need to add another 'Y' or 'N' to the end of this statement in the build.xml of DataAppLoader:
    INSERT INTO user VALUES ('localhost','dataapp','*B974A83D18BB105D0C9186756F485406E6E6039B','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','','','','',0,0,0,0,'',NULL,'N');
    The original one is like this:
    INSERT INTO user VALUES ('localhost','dataapp','*B974A83D18BB105D0C9186756F485406E6E6039B','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','Y','','','','',0,0,0,0,'',NULL);
    The new column added is password_expired. Y or N to indicate the password is good or not.

  • How to display the javafx application to a web application

    I've got a javaFX application .(My IDE is NetBeans 6.8)I choose the main.fx in the opened project,then run>>project configure >> web browser and Shift+F6.It runs as expected.
    and the path is "+http://localhost:8082/servlet/org.netbeans.modules.javafx.project.JnlpDownloadServlet/E%3A/Source+Codes/NTBS/MyProject/dist//MyPage.html+"
    However,I tried to access that page again when I closed the NetBeans.It failed.
    so I attempt to change the default html code.
    default code
    <script src="http://dl.javafx.com/1.2/dtfx.js"></script>
    <script>
        javafx(
                  archive: "MyJar.jar",
              draggable: true,
                  width: 300,
                  height: 300,
                  code: "MyPackage.Main",
                  name:
    "MyProject"
    </script>the changed code
    <script src="http://dl.javafx.com/1.2/dtfx.js"></script>
    <script>
        javafx(
            archive: "MyJar.jnlp",//or the like this   archive: "MyJar_browser.jnlp",
              draggable: true,
                  width: 300,
                  height: 300,
                  code: "MyPackage.Main",
                  name:
    "MyProject"
    </script>but it is futile.
    Considering maybe it needs server, I put the jar file and html file into tomcat ,it is nouse either.

    Thank you!
    yes I do.but I tried many many times.Finally,I got a phenomenon .Under Apache Tomcat container ,we can not access them by jnlp files,while the javafx's jar files set into the WEB-INF folder.
    Surely.we must put new another foler on the root to place javafx.
    Actually,we habitually put jar files into the lib folder which just under WEB-INF foler,and the JSP&servlet's specification.
    Is there a new way?

    No problem.
    Make sure your resources are set at the proper location. Could be that tje jni.jar is under a 'lib' folder?
    Normally you don't have to worry about deployment a lot if you are using like Netbeans 7.2 or higher.
    When you press 'Clean and build' it creates your deployed files in the 'dist' folder.
    You can change specification by adapting the build.xml file.
    Of course lot of different possibilities are available for deployment!
    You can find lot of info here:
    [http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/deployment/jfxpub-deployment.htm|http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/deployment/jfxpub-deployment.htm]
    Important to know is if you want to work with
    - a standalone application (self-contained or not)
    - with webstart
    - or with applets
    (In my case I'm using webstart, but also Self-Contained Application Packaging (jre is also installed!)

  • I've kept the old version od imovie (6.0.4) through three migrations and now have it on a mac 10.6.8. i prefer it to the new one, but it has recently begun to give me serious problems. is it becoming obsolete?

    i've always thought imovie 6.0.4 was the superior product. i've used it edit semi-profesional films. its easy and intuitive, and always gives you what you want, while looking profesional. i have final cut pro, which i use when i have more time or the project is of more importance, but i still love the ease and simplicity of the old imovie. i've migrated it over 4 computers and it has worked fine till about a week ago. it now takes up to 20 minutes to load, frequently drops out. leaves phantom and relic snipets of audio. is there any way i can fix this problem and keep my beloved imovie 6.0.4? can download it from a third party? are the issues because the .app is going obsolete or are there just new bugs on my computer? i've recently uninstalled all my adobe products and put them onto another computer, could that be it? help me obi won, you're my only hope!

    klaus 1,
    thanx for the reply. i'm on a 10.6.8 snow leopard.
    yes, it did arrive via migration, but had been working well for over 2 years, and two years before that on a 10.5, where it had migrated from a mac book g4 where i used it regularly. through all that time and migration, not a single problem
    i can't pinpoint the exact 'original' problem, because i'm currently working on two different editing jobs (one serious [a kickstarted campaign] the other, not so much, for my son's pre-school graduation, i was making the school a little video for their website). so during this time, i'm using a combo of; imovie, adobe premiere and final cut pro. and i've had so much pulsing through my computer (and external hard drives), literally hundreds of gigs of HD video, tons of tiff and jpeg files, and much mp4 and aif music files. i often had three or four major applications all open and running simultaneously, so who knows how this all started. but one day, i flipped open my mac, and just clicked on imovie, not a file mind you, but just the icon, and it took like 2 minutes to load (usually 5-10 seconds). i made sure all other apps and windows were closed and tried it again - now 3 minutes to load and it drops out mid edit. and it just kept getting worse.
    AND THEN, AFTER IWROTE ABOVE 'I  -  ME' MADE THINGS, MUCH, MUCH WORSE.
    i was aware that there is an old quicktime 7 that gets installed in a 10.6.8 to supplement the newer quicktime x and the various other programs, including imovie, that still use qt 7. i was a bit confused why there even is an icon for qt 7 in the utilities folder, since you never open it directly, it just works behind the scenes. but whatever.
    after imovie started acting up, i looked up to see what programs that imovie uses, thinking the problem might be there and found an article that said there was actually an even earlier version of quicktime, (qt 7.0.3 i think) that was specifically made for imovie, but there hadn't been enough major changes in qt to bother imovie, but (there is always a but) there were changes coming that would begin to affect imovie. since the article (i wish i could link it here, sorry) was a year old, i  thought maybe the damaging upgrade was already made. so i found this older version of quicktime (the 7.0.3 version) and tried to install it, thinking it would fix my issue, i'd finish the edit, then delete it. but when i tried to open it, it told me, a newer version of of qt was on my computer and i couldn't install it. so very impulsively and idiotically i uninstalled quicktime 7, thinking i would just reinstall it later. but that's when everything went wrong.
    SO I MUST STRESS THIS TO EVERYONE! NEVER NEVER NEVER UNINSTALL QUICKTIME.
    apparently quick time x is preinstalled into the 10.6.8, in such a way, that its interconnected with like 12 other programs, that will all begin to act erradictly after it is uninstalled. then those 12 programs will each affect 5 more and soon, your computer, then your hard-drive is blown. i tried reinstalling quicktime, but could not. i tried every conceivable way, but could not even find it in any folder. it was gone. and so was qt x.
    so when i uninstalled quicktime 7, it affected quick time x in such a way that it stopped working, then could not be found. then all h**l broke loose. every program began to run slowly and started dropping out. functionally, the computer became so slow, it was useless. even typing became slow. i still did not know about the 'never uninstall quick time rule' yet, so i looked for the problem else where.
    i opened up activity monitor, and there were no programs eating up cpu, nothing that suspicious. but when i switched activity monitor to show usage in a descending order, i saw kernel task was using between 500-700% cpu. my fans started running furiously and my battery life dropped in half. i would switch off the computer, start it with reset, things would go well for a half hour, then kernel would spike, the computer would get red hot and the fans would go as fast as propellers. since the kickstarter campaign i was working on was on deadline, i had to keep working. so i went out and bought a laptop stand that allows airflow under the computer and has its own fan to cool the computer, that worked for about a day. but since the fan on the stand ran on power from the usb of my computer, my battery life went from very good, to completely dead. nothing. accidentally unplug the cord for a millisecond second, and the computer turns off. when i restart, the time is set to the day and time i bought the computer, and would undo my internet, and i'd have to reset my whole connection.
    i spent twelve straight hours, through the night, using recovery programs, like pacifist, stellar phoenix, and others, but could not get quick time back. finally (like 4 hours ago) i called apple, and although i have no warranty or apple care, they took my call and we tried some things, which didn't work.
    i had already run disk utility and exhausted all other options. and i was told by apple that since my computer was preloaded (no discs) i could not, erase and reboot, which wasn't really an option anyway.
    so apple being the best run company in the country, sends me a new down loadable version of imovie, quick time 7 and quick time ten.
    it hasn't arrived yet, but how cool is that?
    i have to say though, i'm a bit worried about reinstalling by disc and have no real guarantee that everything will return to normal.
    not to mention my battery is dead and snow leopard gives you no way of getting to it. it has to be replaced at an official apple certified store.
    so lesson here, never, ever, never, uninstall quicktime. i hope no one else makes this mistake.
    thanx and good luck.

  • How do I convert an HTML5 Canvas arc() to JavaFX Canvas arc()?

    I wish to convert a statement from JavaScript used in an HTML5 Canvas such as:
    ctx.arc(x, y, (rad+5)*factor, 0, Math.PI*2, true);
    to the equivalent statement in JavaFX.
    What would it look like?
    For reference, in HTML5 Canvas the arc() method is defined as:
    x
    The x-coordinate of the center of the circle
    Play it »
    y
    The y-coordinate of the center of the circle
    Play it »
    r
    The radius of the circle
    Play it »
    sAngle
    The starting angle, in radians (0 is at the 3 o'clock position of the arc's circle)
    Play it »
    eAngle
    The ending angle, in radians
    Play it »
    counterclockwise
    Optional. Specifies whether the drawing should be counterclockwise or clockwise. False=clockwise, true=counter-clockwise
    but in JavaFX it is defined as:
    public void arc(double centerX, double centerY, double radiusX, double radiusY, double startAngle, double length)
    Adds path elements to the current path to make an arc that uses Euclidean degrees. This Euclidean orientation sweeps from East to North, then West, then South, then back to East.
    Parameters:
    centerX - the center x position of the arc.
    centerY - the center y position of the arc.
    radiusX - the x radius of the arc.
    radiusY - the y radius of the arc.
    startAngle - the starting angle of the arc in the range 0-360.0
    length - the length of the baseline of the arc.
    Could someone please show me what the JavaFX arc() statement would look like and explain how to convert between these two?
    Thanks.

    No conversion possible. Are you on a responsive project perhaps? Then
    output is only HTML, mobile devices do not support Flash.

  • REJECT statment to break GET event is Obsolete in ECC 6.0 - Alternative?

    Hi Developers,
    REJECT statment is used to break from GET event (say GET PERNR event in Logical Database) used to process for an Employee.
    This REJECT statement is Obsolete . Is there any alternative for this ?
    If so, please reply at the earliest as it is very Urgent.
    Regards,

    Hi Suma,
    The REJECT statement was specially developed for leaving GET event blocks. Unlike CHECK and EXIT, REJECT always refers to the current GET event block. If CHECK and EXIT occur in a loop, they refer to the loop, and in a subroutine, they always refer to the subroutine. The REJECT statement, on the other hand, allows you to exit a GET event block directly from a loop or a called subroutine.
    The statement
    REJECT [dbtab].
    always terminates the processing of the current line of the node of the logical database. Without the optional dbtabspecification, the logical database automatically reads the next line of the same node, and the next GET event at the same hierarchy level is triggered. If you use the optional dbtab specification, the logical database reads the next line of the node dbtab. The node dbtab  must occur above the current node in the logical database hierarchy.
    Example
    The following executable program is connected to the logical database F1S.
    REPORT EVENT_DEMO.
    NODES: SPFLI, SFLIGHT, SBOOK.
    GET SFLIGHT.
      SKIP.
      WRITE: / 'Carrid:', SFLIGHT-CARRID,
               'Connid:', SFLIGHT-CONNID,
               'Fldate:', SFLIGHT-FLDATE.
      ULINE.
    GET SBOOK.
      PERFORM SUB.
    FORM SUB.
      WRITE: / 'Bookid:', SBOOK-BOOKID.
      REJECT 'SFLIGHT'.
    ENDFORM.
    This program reads and displays only the first booking for each flight, since the logical database reads the next line of SFLIGHT after the REJECT statement.

  • Remaining questions while evaluating JavaFX for a new project

    Dear forum members:
    currently I am evaluating the possibilities of next-generation GUI technologies, such as JavaFX, Silverlight and Flash/Flex, for a new project. To get a basic understanding of JavaFX's concepts, I worked through the available online text and video tutorials, and all the treated topics seem quite obvious/comprehensible to me +as long as one is only confronted to relatively static GUI component hierarchies+. But, as a newbie, some questions concerning more dynamically defined GUIs (i.e. dynamic JFX scripting*) still remain.
    Application scenario (exemplary):
    Say I want to create a "Online Shopping Application" that supports "+ShopOwners+" in *dynamically* defining the "+Shop Model+" structure, e.g. accepted visitor (client) categories, product categories their products, pricing information, payment methods, etc.
    Then, based on the dynamically defined model, the shop owner should be able to design and layout the necessary forms, such as order forms, survey/feedback forms, etc. This should be done in "design mode", and there should also exist a possibility for him/her to preview the specification results in a "preview mode".
    Finally, the shop owner must be able to save the model and forms on the server side in a way that can requested and run be the shopping app end users (the shop clients) via (another (?)) JavaFX frontend.
    _The still remaining questions for this scenario are:_
    +1. Is JavaFX appropriate for creating such kind of applications, especially when it comes to dynamic JFX scripting (and compilation) on the client side??? (By now I'm not quite sure if this is really necessary for my plans!)+
    +2. Concerning the ShopOwner's GUI with its design and preview mode (and knowing that the latter mode will be the GUI version presented to the shop clients in another JFX module):+
    +Is it possible to *dynamically *build up a +Scene Graph+ in a way that lets me handle and *compile* the corresponding +JFX Script+ on the client side for previewing it? Or is a client-server roundtrip absolutely necessary?
    How could one persist this JFX Script on the server side? I.e., which intermediary format would be the most appropriate? => XML, JSON, JFX Script?
    3. Concerning the "Shop Model", would I optimally create JFX classes or even Java Beans to bind to?
    4. And finally: What would be your recommended way (software architecture) to fulfill this task in JavaFX?
    Do there already exist some JFX components (dynamic forms/survey authoring modules, etc.) that persue a similar task and that I didn't find yet?
    As the clarification of the above-mentioned issues are very important for me, I hope that you more experienced users can help me, pointing me to a practicable approach.
    Thank you very much for any help and constructive tips in advance.
    Best regards
    Martin Meyers

    Q1: Do I optimally need 2 different custom components for each treated concept, or do I have just 1 component with 2 internal modes (design & preview/usage)??
    E.g., (a) FormSpec widget composed of LabelSpec, TextBoxSpec, ChooseBoxSpec,... widgets each having their preview pendants
    Form, Label, TextBox, ChooseBox, etc.
    versus
    +(b) only Form widget composed of Label, TextBox, ChooseBox widgets, but all having a "design/preview execution mode".+
    Closer to (b), I think, though each widget doesn't need to be modified to have design and preview modes. Instead, each widget can be wrapped within a Group to provide the design/preview functions without modifying the widget itself.
    The technique is as follows. Given a sequence of widgets (Nodes, really), for each widget, wrap it in a Group that contains that widget but with an overlay Rectangle in front of it. The Rectangle can be semi-transparent, or fully transparent if you prefer. (In the example below I've made it a semitransparent color to make its location obvious as well as to provide a highlight that signals design mode.) The overlay Rectangle is set up so that its dimensions will exactly track the dimensions (bounds) of the widget behind it. I've set blocksMouse to true so that when it's present, the overlay traps events and prevents interaction with the widget. There is a boolean variable previewMode, controlled by a CheckBox, that controls the visibility of these overlay rectangles. I've also added a bit of code to track mouse events on the overlay rectangles so that you can move the widgets around when you're in design mode.
    Note that the visible variable differs from transparent, i.e. opacity == 0.0. If a node is visible but is transparent, it is still eligible to receive events; whereas if visible is false, it does not receive events.
    Here's some code that illustrates this technique. I'll answer your other questions in a subsequent post.
    import javafx.stage.Stage;
    import javafx.scene.*;
    import javafx.scene.control.*;
    import javafx.scene.input.*;

  • Specify the GUI declaratively in ActionScript like in JavaFX Script instead of MXML

    After reading a bit about JavaFX Script (which is actually remarkebly close to ActionScript 3) as a developer I thought the way one can specify the GUI declaratively in JavaFX Script via JSON-like notation for the components is pretty cool. It would be nice to have something like that in Flex/ActionScript too. The advantages I see over MXML are:
    1) a more compact notation than XML which is nice from a developers view point who actually writes this kind of code. Of course the idea would be that designers still design the GUI with graphical tools that generate this code but if you have to dive in and edit the code it's nice not to have to deal with verbose XML and I think even designers can easily understand JSON-like code; don't just assume that designers love XML because HTML was based on SGML! I'm not so sure if today many designers really still know raw HTML that well (like in 1997, the early days...). Server side developers probably know it better because they have to adapt it to jsp or asp or whatever framework.
    2) The fact that it's all ActionScript gives a seamless integration between just composing the components to form the GUI and adding scripts to add additionial behavior instead of mixing XML with actionscript code => no more need for those nasty CDATA blocks! It would also be easy for development tools like Flexbuilder to give a seamsless experience with code completion and zooming in on the code because it's all Actionscript! There's also no need for a separate expression language to tie the MXML to the underlying Actionscript. It would it also make easier to create custom components (not just simple composition components which is really easy in MXML) because you don't have to implement separate XML tags.
    here's a short JavaFX Script example:
    Frame {
    content: GroupPanel {
    var myRow = Row { alignment: BASELINE }
    var label_col = Column { alignment: TRAILING }
    var field_col = Column { alignment: LEADING }
    rows: [myRow]
    columns: [label_col, field_col]
    content:
    [SimpleLabel {
    row: myRow
    column: label_col
    text: "Type your text here:"
    TextField {
    row: myRow
    column: field_col
    columns: 50
    visible: true
    Note that this shouldn't be confused with programmatically specifying the GUI in Actionscript (which is possible today as an alternative to MXML). What I propose is at a (slightly) higher level: you don't give a detailed sequence of methods/functions to call to construct the GUI (i.e. HOW to do it) but just specify WHAT you want.
    Hopefully some Adobe Flex will see this and think about it. Although I think MXML is not too bad and I can live with it if I have to ;)

    I like that idea Sean. A standard and well-supported way to separate MXML and code would be good. I'd love to have builder support a MVC style triad for MXML files, with the
    model.as being simply an all-public-all-bindable class full of VOs and view-specific information, any view-manipulation and view<->app communications in the
    controller.as, and nothing but bindings and layour in the MXML. There's (almost) nothing stopping you doing this by hand at the moment, but it's a pain, and developers wouldn't stick to it for very long, when they need to create and maintain 3 separate files for that simple "error dialog" without a hand from Builder.
    Then again, I'd rather Adobe spent the time that would take on opening and better-documenting builder's APIs, so we can write our own plugins easily, but that's my greedy side- A standard builder-supported MVC pattern for custom MXML components would be aweseome for people that aren't me :)

    As for JavaFX, I don't care for it.

    Jason you bring up a good point on a concept that I think Adobe should
    poach from a different framework, Silverlight. In Silverlight the
    code-behind pattern is automatic and very nice to work with. Every
    interface can be composed of both a layout file and a script file, and
    they get composited into the SAME class at compile time. So you can
    have both a FileDialog.mxml and FileDialog.as file that know about each
    other automatically, without the need to subclass one from the other.

    Personally, I like the separation between the MXML and ActionScript.
    We're working on a large project, and so we have all the ActionScript
    separate from the MXML files.  For example we'll have something like
    filedialoglayout.mxml, and then
    filedialog.as that is a subclass of
    filedialoglayout.  All event handlers and the like are setup in the
    filedialog.as file - the mxml file doesn't know about any function names.
    Advantages:
    MXML files become layout only - and are more easily shared and worked on
    with non-technical people
    ActionScript is all in *.as files: no CDATA blocks and no FlexBuilder
    quirks where editing ActionScript inside a CDATA block doesn't work
    quite like in a real AS file.
    For simple experiments, and for learning, it's obviously nice to have
    everything in one mxml file, but in a big project like ours, the
    separation helps keep things clearer and more maintainable.
    Why use the mxml at all?  The MXML files are nice to edit with the
    visual editor in Flex Builder, and it's much easier to apply styles and
    embed assets in MXML than it is in pure ActionScript.
    I think two ways to talk about the same thing (XML and ActionScript) is
    already almost one too many - adding a third (JSON) would really be too
    much.
    Just my thoughts.

    This reminds me of a certain workflow pattern that has emerged for us
    which might help provide some insight on this topic. I'm working on a
    project with a couple other developers which connects to a webservice
    for supplying clientside data. This data is available in both json
    notation and xml notation. The thing is, while the developers have
    overwhelmingly agreed that we should be consuming the json version
    since it can be parsed faster and provide more meaningful context for
    objects (ie strings vs ints vs arrays etc...), all these same
    developers rely exclusively on the xml notation when asking questions
    about the data or passing structures around to discuss.
    I see the same thing when looking at JavaFX and MXML. JavaFX might
    allow for more accurate structures and might be able to be compiled
    faster, but MXML is better for being self documenting even if it
    requires more verbosity.

    I'd be curious what other people think.  I see MXML as a distinct
    advantage over doing the pseudo-script stuff.  I really don't like
    the JavaFX system actually.

      specify the GUI declaratively in ActionScript like in JavaFX Script
    instead of MXML
    After reading a bit about JavaFX Script (which is actually remarkebly
    close to ActionScript 3) as a developer I thought the way one can
    specify the GUI declaratively in JavaFX Script via JSON-like notation
    for the components is pretty cool. It would be nice to have something
    like that in Flex/ActionScript too. The advantages I see over MXML are:
    1) a more compact notation than XML which is nice from a developers
    view point who actually writes this kind of code. Of course the idea
    would be that designers still design the GUI with graphical tools
    that generate this code but if you have to dive in and edit the code
    it's nice not to have to deal with verbose XML and I think even
    designers can easily understand JSON-like code; don't just assume
    that designers love XML because HTML was based on SGML! I'm not so
    sure if today many designers really still know raw HTML that well
    (like in the 1997, the early days...). Server side developers
    probably know it better because they! have to adapt it to jsp or asp
    or whatever framework.
    2) The fact that it's all ActionScript gives a seamless integration
    between just composing the components to form the GUI and adding
    scripts to add additionial behavior instead of mixing XML with
    actionscript code => no more need for those naster CDATA blocks! It
    would also be easy for development tools like Flexbuilder to give a
    seamsless experience with code completion and zooming in on the code
    because it's all Actionscript! There's also no need for a separate
    expression language to tie the MXML to the underlying Actionscript.
    It would it also make easier to create custom components (not just
    simple composition components which is really easy in MXML) because
    you don't have to implement separate XML tags.
    here's a short JavaFX Script example:
    Frame {
        content: GroupPanel {
        var myRow = Row { alignment: BASELINE }
        var label_col = Column { alignment: TRAILING }
        var field_col = Column { alignment: LEADING  }
        rows: [myRow]
        columns: [label_col, field_col]
        content:
        [SimpleLabel {
        row: myRow
        column: label_col
        text: "Type your text here:"
        TextField {
        row: myRow
        column: field_col
        columns: 50
        visible: true
    Note that this shouldn't be confused with programmatically specifying
    the GUI in Actionscript (which is possible today as an alternative to
    MXML). What I propose is at a (slightly) higher level: you don't give
    a detailed sequence of methods/functions to call to construct the GUI
    (i.e. HOW to do it) but just specify WHAT you want.
    Hopefully some Adobe Flex will see this and think about it. Although
    I think MXML is not too bad and I can live with it if I have to ;)

  • Deprecated and obsolete parameters in 10gR2

    From the oracle documentation, the following initialization parameters have been deprecated or obsoleted in this release. in some cases, oracle specifies what superceded the original parameter but in most cases not. does anyone know how to find out more about what was replaced and by what?
    see the following:

    my boss is pushing for explanations and i have no idea how to find the information (i personally am of the school that says if during the database creation, you get warning messages, it's gone and you just accept it...maybe i have been working with oracle too long?)
    Thanks for any assistance.

    Hi,
    Check for these parameters in Oracle9i documentation. There are some mentioning of new parameters to be used for the deprecated parameters. Ofcourse, not all are available.
