Is my images hardware accelerated???

hello guys,
i'm testing my game engine currently
in my p4 1.7ghz, unknown s*ck gfx card
i got only 40 fps for displaying 900 sprites (32x32) in windowed mode using bufferstrategy
and my question is:
is my images hardware accelerated?
why i got only 40 fps? how fast normally it should be with your code?
i saw on other games the fps could reach 1000++ fps!?!?
is my images loading technique that wrong and i got no hw accel
(how to test the image hw accel or not?)
or it's just my gfx card that s*ck
(i haven't tried the games that reach 1000++ fps yet)
or there's something wrong with my engine :(
please check this http://www.mycgiserver.com/~goldenstudios/test.zip
and tell me the fps you got, and your spec
running: java -cp golden_0_1_1.jar TestCase [-fullscreen] [-nobuff]
-fullscreen : to run in fullscreen mode
-nobuff : run without bufferstrategy
i load images using this:
    public static final BufferedImage getImage(URL url, Color keycolor) throws Exception {
        Image image = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage(url);
        waitForResource(image);
        Image alphaImage = applyMask(image, keycolor);
        BufferedImage bufferedImage = gc.createCompatibleImage(
                alphaImage.getWidth(null), alphaImage.getHeight(null), Transparency.BITMASK);
        Graphics2D g = (Graphics2D) bufferedImage.createGraphics();
        g.setComposite(AlphaComposite.Src);
        g.drawImage(alphaImage, 0, 0, null);
        g.dispose();
        return bufferedImage;
    }thank you in advance

75fps fullscreen (vsync locked)then the bufferstrategy works! if it locks on 75 fps, then why there's a game with 1000++ fps???
try to turn off bufferstrategy, it should be no vsync locked, am i right?
java -cp %CLASSPATH%;golden_0_1_1.jar TestCase -nobuff
100-125fps windowed (timer resolution limited?)wow, that's mean my gfx card is cr*p, it's about 3 times than mine, 40 fps
Remove the timer altogether, your testcase will then give some useful performance metricsis that mean looping without Thread.sleep()?
try using GAGE timer, remove the comments at initEngine() method, and of course need timer.dll and the jar in class path
     protected void initEngine() {
          super.initEngine();
          bsTimer = new com.golden.gamedev.engine.timer.GageTimer();
     }thank you so much Abuse

• Hardware Acceleration Causes Blue Screen of Death - Resolution?

My computer running Windows 7 64 bit started crashing with Blue Screen of Death when Viewing YouTube videos or other videos like The Daily Show.  The "solution" was to turn off hardware acceleration.
The crashing appears to have stopped, but now the video quality is degraded and jerky, to the point that the video can just freeze while the audio continues.  So either I crash or I have poor video playback.
Has anyone found a solution to the BSOD that would enable me to re-activate hardware acceleration?
Symptoms with hardware acceleration enabled:  Computer will crash after playing a handful of YouTube or other online Flash videos.  Exact number of successful playbacks varies, but it will usually crash somewhere around the sixth playback (I cruise YouTube the way other cruise Wikipedia.)  The screen will first flash black on one video, and when the next video starts, the computer crashes.

Hi Chris, thanks for responding.
Browser:  IE9 64 bit, and Firefox 17.0.1
Dxdiag attached, but are you wanting a version of this after hardware acceleration has been re-enabled and a crash has occurred?
Thanks,

• Hardware accelerated scaling on external display not smooth since 11.0

Hi,
When running 1280x800 app in fullscreen mode with hardware accelerated scaling (fullScreenSourceRect) from a laptop on the second screen (extented desktop etc)  hardware scaling seems to fail to smooth the image on certain cases.
flash version
screen resolution
result
10.3
any
works
11.0 - 11.2
1280 x 1024 or 1280x800

11.0 - 11.2
any other
fails
We're actually making an Air app, but it seems flash player has the problem and air 3.2 comes with flash 11.2.
Code for fullscreen:
stage.fullScreenSourceRect = new Rectangle(0,0,1280,800);
stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE;
Here's a list of display adapters we've confirmed the problem with, but it seems there's others too:
Intel GMA X3100
Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family
Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family
Anyone have any workarounds or other advice for this?

You can also try booting into the Safe Mode to see if the problem is there also.  Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application unistaller. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

• Enabling hardware acceleration distorts website text in firefox 6

When using Aurora ver. 6.0a2 (2011-05-29) I have to disable hardware acceleration. When this setting is enabled, everything visible with the program (this includes the entire GUI, websites, all text & images) is distorted. It's not that you can't see the images or read the text at all, it just appears to not be rendered correctly. When acceleration is disabled, everything is returned to it's optimal viewability (for lack of a better term).
My current relevent system specs are:
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (with all updates applied)
Video Card: AMD Radeon HD 6950
Video Card Driver: Catalyst ver. 11.5
Firefox Version: Aurora ver. 6.0a2 (2011-05-29)
Also of note, when using the official Firefox release (ver. 4.0.1), I do not have this problem. If you need any more information, I will be happy to provide it.

I have this problem with yahoo mail and Firefox 6 (no such problem with Firefox 5.0.1 and below). No other websites show this issue. When I disable hardware acceleration yahoo mail renders fine but with hardware acceleration it looks washed out in parts and patches.
System specs:
My current relevent system specs are:
Windows 7 Professional x86 (with all updates applied) Video Card: AMD Radeon HD 3870 Video Card Driver: Catalyst ver. 11.7 and 11.8

please help me

Hi,
Does this happen in Safe Mode or with extensions/plugins disabled? Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode
[Try the add on HTTPS Everywhere and disable youtube.com in the HTTPS Everywhere rules and I can watch YouTube videos in this Firefox profile as long as it's not over SSL]
In youtube you can also try to change the video quality or disable hardware acceleration.
Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See this article for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).
To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:
#Go to this Adobe Flash Player Help page.
#Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
#Click on Settings in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
# Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel. <br/> <br/> <br/>
# Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
# Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
# Restart Firefox.
This Flash Player Help - Display Settings page has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.

• Adobe Flash with R9 290 Hardware Acceleration Black Videos

I am not sure what causes this bug. I can restart the computer and it fixes the issue but randomly after a while it goes back to black. I can disable hardware acceleration and sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn't. There are 2 other people I know that had this issue. This happens to me both in Firefox and Chrome.
http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2179088/290-black-screen-issue-possibly-due-adobe-f lash.html#14303459
I would report it to the bug site but it seems to be broken.
Images:
R9 290 Black Video Bug - Imgur

With hardware acceleration, we basically just hand everything off to the video card driver.  It's pretty much an on/off proposition.  My recommendation would be to install the latest AMD drivers that match that chipset to see if there are bugfixes that the OEM hasn't picked up.  Ongoing driver updates on these OEM cards typically aren't as good as what you'd get from an AMD-branded card, but the AMD drivers will typically work (but are unsupported) for the cards made by third-party integrators.  Just set a system restore point or keep a copy of the OEM drivers handy in the odd case you need to roll back.
If you're experiencing this with hardware acceleration disabled, make sure that you're looking at Flash video.  YouTube serves a lot of HTML5 video these days.  If you right click on it and it says About HTML5, disabling hardware acceleration in Flash isn't going to help you.
Anyway, if you're for sure looking at Flash videos that aren't rendering and hardware acceleration is disabled, please send me an exact link to the video that reproduces it.
In addition, detailed information about your OS and the browser version would be helpful in attempting to reproduce it on our end.
Thanks!

then i tried putting the JPanel in JApplet and opened it in firefoxbrowser and the fps says ~59fps and cpu usage ~30% but its super skippy and looks like its drawing incorrectly like some of the objects are displaced very far from where they are supposed to be some frames and drawn perfectly some other frames. What's happening? Is there anyway to fix this?
Below is some code that for a JApplet and JFrame they both contain the JPanel and ive packed everything in a jar file that can be run as a desktopapp or japplet
I've also tried add the JApplet directly into the JFrame but it seems the performance might go down a little (though im not sure how much)
main extends JApplet
RobotValkyrieAttack extends JPanel
package RobotValkyrieAttack;
import javax.swing.*;
import java.awt.*;
import java.util.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
public class main extends JApplet{
         static LinkedList<Image> listImage;
         //no JApplet constructor is allowed to be overrriden
         public void init(){ //called by the japplet container
              this.loadImages();
              RobotValkyrieAttack r = new RobotValkyrieAttack(listImage);
              this.add(r);
              Thread t = new Thread(r);
              t.start();
              this.addKeyListener(r);
         public void loadImages(){
              //images
              listImage = new LinkedList<Image>();
              listImage.add( new ImageIcon(this.getClass().getResource("data/valkyrie0.png")).getImage() );
              listImage.add( new ImageIcon(this.getClass().getResource("data/astroid0.png")).getImage() );
              listImage.add( new ImageIcon(this.getClass().getResource("data/clouds0.jpg")).getImage() );
              listImage.add( new ImageIcon(this.getClass().getResource("data/cloud0.png")).getImage() );
              listImage.add( new ImageIcon(this.getClass().getResource("data/cloud1.png")).getImage() );
              listImage.add( new ImageIcon(this.getClass().getResource("data/cloud2.png")).getImage() );
              MediaTracker mt = new MediaTracker(this);
              for(int i=0; i<listImage.size(); i++){
                   mt.addImage(listImage.get(i),0);
              try{
                   mt.waitForAll();
              catch(Exception ex){
                   ex.printStackTrace();
         public void update(Graphics g){
              this.paint(g);
         public static void main(String args[]){
              JFrame j = new JFrame();
              j.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
              j.setSize(1200,700);
              j.setLocationRelativeTo(null);
              main m = new main();
              m.loadImages();
              RobotValkyrieAttack r = new RobotValkyrieAttack(listImage);
              j.add(r);
              Thread t = new Thread(r);
              t.start();
              j.addKeyListener(r);
              main m = new main();
              m.init();
              j.add(m);
              j.setVisible(true);
}

Before we begin, note that performance of Java graphics has always been a bit 'hit and miss' in the sense that the same box with the same hardware and Java version can show radically different FPS rates if the video driver is updated.
For better help sooner, post an SSCCE.
Applet SSCCEs that involve images are a problem. Normally I would invite creators of image based SSCCEs to hot-link to [images available off my site|http://pscode.org/media/#image], but an applet cannot hot-link to images. It will be necessary to generate the images in code, if you want much chance of people running the code. Note that very few people will follow a link to anywhere, or download any 'build zip' or similar, to help out on a problem.
That code snippet as posted, had a number of things that seemed horrific.
- A class called 'main'. O_o Better would be AppletRenderTest which is not only more descriptive, but also uses the common nomenclature for a class name.
- Frame size 1200x700?! It pays to ensure any 'comparison' of applet and application is done at the same size and my screen size is 1024x768. Make it a lot smaller, like 800x600.
- A Swing based Timer is more typically used for Swing animation, than a Thread/Runnable.
- GUI construction should be done on the EDT.
- This..
//no JApplet constructor is allowed to be overrriden..is not only factually wrong, but also incorrectly spelt.
I am not confident you are up to writing:
- Test code (especially test code you intend others to help with)
- GUIs
- Animation code
- Applets
Or if you are capable of parts of that, of combining the 4.
Are you confident?

• Opengl graphic hardware acceleration : UNLOAD LIBEGL.DLL

hi everybody, i work on Icop e-box 3310 and windows embedded compact 7 i have add the graphic acceleration using opengl to my os image but when i debug a program the program fail to load libegl.dll. i have take this dll in the power vr opengl pc emulator
sdk.
i do'nt undertand what happen
this is what appears in the debuging windows
load xamlrenderplugin.dll
load libegl.dll
unload libegl.dll
unload xamlrenderplugin.dll

After installing windows embedded ce 6.0 r3
The document "windows embedded ce 6.0 r3 install guide.doc" shows that:
You can add the following new flags in your OS design to support hardware acceleration:
BSP_XRPLUGIN_DDRAW
BSP_XRPLUGIN_OPENGL

• How do I disable the hardware acceleration in Flash player on a Windows XP machine remotely?

How do I disable the hardware acceleration in Flash player on a Windows XP machine remotely?
I have a few hundred computers running Adobe Flash Player.
The operation system is Windows XP.
They are Compaq 6005 desktop PC’s, with an inbuilt ATI radeon HD 4200 video card.
We have a persistent issue where viewing a flash video (e.g. something on youtube) causes the video card driver to crash.  You are left with no video signal to the monitor.  Audio continues and the computer still responds to commands. This only happens when watching flash video.
We have tried:
Updating flash plugin (numerous versions)
Updating the video card drivers (we have tried the last three video card driver versions, including the HP drivers and ATI drivers)
Updating the browsers (this problem happens with IE8/9 and Firefox10/11/12)
There seems to be two ways to work round this issue.  One is to disable the video acceleration in the ‘troubleshoot’ section in the advanced part of the display settings area in windows.  The other way is to start a flash video, right click, go to ‘settings’ and untick the box marked ‘Enable Hardware Acceleration’.
Doing either of these things allows the user to view flash videos with no apparent issues.
Is there a way to disable the hardware acceleration in Flash without visiting the PC?  Perhaps an undocumented option in the mms.cfg file? I understand that you can use an option to skip the video card check, and so force hardware acceleration on, can you do the opposite?
Thanks in advance
Daniel.

Hi.
I have had over 200 views, and no suggestions as to how this could be fixed.
I have also posted in the general flash forum, that thread has fewer views.
If I should put this question in a different forum please let me know which one.
If what I am asking is not possible is there a mechanism for escalating this issue or requesting a feature for the next version of flash?
Thanks.

• Problem with hardware acceleration on HBO GO

I just got a Zotac ZBOX AD02 (AMD E-350 APU w/ Radeon HD 6310) and in general it's working great.  However, I  have a problem with Flash video on HBO GO.  For the first minute or so  of steaming video, everything seems perfect.  Video is high quality and  smooth, CPU is around 50%.  Then after a minute or two there will always  be some visible video glitch and CPU utilization will jump up to  90-100% and playback becomes extremely choppy.  So I'm guessing Flash  hardware acceleration is working initially, then something happens that  kills the hardware acceleration, and of course the E-350 CPU is not up the  task by itself.
The really strange thing is that it seems to be specific to HBO GO.  I  can stream HD all day long from Amazon Instant Video and Youtube (at least when Youtube is able  to dish it out fast enough).  And it's definitely not a bandwidth  problem.  I have Comcast cable (20Mb down), and a bigger computer I have hooked up  to another TV  has no problem with HBO GO.  I think the same problem happens on the bigger computer, but it's faster CPU can overcome the lack of hardware acceleration.
I've got the latest drivers from AMD and the latest Flash player (even  tried the 11 beta) and have tried all the main browsers (FF, IE, Chrome), but it's always  the same: 1-2 minutes of perfect playback and moderate CPU utilization,  then jacked up CPU and choppy playback.
Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any way to contact HBO GO directly about this problem (support links just refer you to your cable provider), so I thought I'd give it a shot here. Is anyone else out there having this problem with HBO GO or any other  Flash video sites?  Any thoughts on what else I could do to track down the  root cause?

Well, my idea with 10.x on IE didn't really work.  Results were not nearly as good as in Firefox, and I'm not willing to use 10.x in my main browser.
However, based on your insight on the wmode=transparent issue, I started playing around with a Greasemonkey script to force wmode=direct, and I think it actually works.  I haven't been able to try it at home yet on the problem PC, but here on my work PC (don't tell anyone I'm not actually working) it makes a massive difference in CPU utilization.  Without the script CPU is around 80-90% during video playback.  When I enable the script it drops to around 20%.  The only issue is that I usually have to refresh the page once video playback starts to get wmode=direct to take effect (start video playback, then once the video playback page loads, hit refresh in the browser).
My script is just a modified version of this one I found:
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/67260
Here's my modified Greasemonkey script (hopefully the forum will allow javascript in posts):
// ==UserScript==

// @namespace      http://userscripts.org/topics/3090#posts-11620

document.addEventListener("DOMNodeInserted", nodeInserted, false);
function nodeInserted()

            if (obj.type == 'application/x-shockwave-flash')
                var skip = false;
                for (var params = obj.getElementsByTagName("param"), j = 0, param; param = params[j]; j++)
                    if (param.getAttribute("name") == "wmode")
                        skip = true;
                        param.setAttribute("value", "direct");
                        break;
                if(skip) continue;
                var param = document.createElement("param");
                param.setAttribute("name", "wmode");
                param.setAttribute("value", "direct");
                obj.appendChild(param);

• Is there a way to have hardware acceleration without the text font change? + Eye straining firefox!

Is there a way to have hardware acceleration without the text font change? I remember there was a way to go into settings before and getting hardware acceleration to work without the font change. Unfortunately I lost ALL my previous setting when uninstalling the beta ver Nightly and clicking delete settings :(.
Also, I fixed a problem before where firefox was visually eye straining to me, I think it was some settings in anti-alias tuner, but I cant seem to find the right settings that puts less strain on my eyes, anyone know? Thanks ahead. Currently using FF7.

Try to toggle some Boolean gfx.font_rendering prefs on the about:config page to disable some features.<br />
Filter: gfx
Others to try:
* set gfx.direct2d.disabled to true to disable Direct2D
*Anti-Aliasing Tuner: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/anti-aliasing-tuner/

• How to tell if H.264 hardware-accelerated playback is working?

Hi everyone,
I noticed that when playing an 864x480 H.264-encoded file with Quicktime X and then with VLC, while checking the Activity Monitor app at the same time, I get CPU usage of 20~25 % with QTX and 15~20 % with VLC. This makes me doubtful that my MacBook is actually using the much-touted Snow Leopard H.264 hardware acceleration.
How can I be completely sure? And if it's indeed not working for me, how can I fix it?
Thanks in advance.

Both movies tested appear in the QT inspector as H.264, so what's the difference?
What do you know about the encoders that were used with them?
Did you make them from scratch and process them to their current state or did you pick them up from some other source?
Until you test with something you have control over and know the underlying details, you won't learn much more I think.

• Problems with 3D Hardware acceleration on nVidia geForce 7300

I have a system with a Core 2 Duo CPU and a nVidia geForce 7300 graphic card. I am trying to run a 3D robotics simulation program (Webots 7.0.3) and its performance is abysmal. I never had graphic performance issues before---but then again, I never tried to run this particularly intensive simulation software. Other simulation software compiled from source (e.g. player/stage ) runs smoothly.
Where can I start to look to find out where the problem is?
Here is what I've been able to find out so far:
1. Hardware acceleration seems to be enabled:
[stefano@polus]$ glxinfo | grep -n5 "direct rendering"
1-name of display: :0
2-display: :0 screen: 0
3:direct rendering: Yes
4-server glx vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
5-server glx version string: 1.4
6-server glx extensions:
7- GLX_EXT_visual_info, GLX_EXT_visual_rating, GLX_SGIX_fbconfig,
8- GLX_SGIX_pbuffer, GLX_SGI_video_sync, GLX_SGI_swap_control,
2. glxgears reports very poor performance: about 60FPS. The software manufacterer says their product needs around 2000FPS to run smoothly
[stefano@polus]$ glxgears
Running synchronized to the vertical refresh.  The framerate should be
approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.
301 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.157 FPS
299 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.781 FPS
3. The software (i.e. Webots) is proprietary, and their linux version is built against libjpeg version 6.2. Archlinux currently runs libjpeg 8, so I had to manually install the older version.
4. The software runs satisfactorily on my Kubuntu laptop, an old Lenovo T61 which has similar (or similarly aged) hardware. In other words, the CPU seems to be adequate and the prolem lies with the graphic setup in my Archlinux system, I believe.
5. I read the nvidia pages on the Arch website, the nvidia-linux pages and the Xorg pages on how to set up xorg.conf. It did not help.
Some info on my system are appended below.
Any hint greatly appreciated.

Why you get 60FPS? you have your answer there.
I noticed that and was wondering about it. I am not familiar with glxgear at all and I am not sure about the exact meaning of the statement about framerate. But one of the developers of the software I am trying to run sent me this glxgear output, obtained on a recent Ubuntu system running under VMWare (on a Windows host, I presume):
$ glxgears
11030 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2205.791 FPS
11492 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2298.289 FPS
What gives? Are they running a different version of glxgears or is there some hidden switch in glxgears that unties it from monitor refresh rate and makes it work as a benchmark tool  (man glxgears did not report any)?

• ATI Radeon 9000 IGP Mobile driver doesn't have hardware acceleration

I installed the xf86-video-ati package and I don't get hardware acceleration. Glxgears gives a painful 80 FPS rate and nothing 3D intensive works, neither 480p/720p youtube videos. Also, it seems that the current drivers identify the card as 9100 instead of 9000, but I know that it's 9000 for sure. The laptop that I'm running is an old one, Compaq Presario R3000 with the Intel CPU.
