Is my NIC working?

Hi,
My motherboard has built-in NIC which is 3COM 3C920 Integrated Fast
Ethernet Controller (3C905C-TX Compatible)
From the newsgroup, I learn that I can use the command #ifconfig elxl0
plumb and then
# ifconfig -a
lo0: flags=1000849<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4> m
inet 127.0.0.1 netmask ff000000
elxl0: flags=1000842<BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4> m
inet 0.0.0.0 netmask 0
ether 0:c0:9f:3:85:ef
1. Is it mean my NIC is working?
2. Once I reboot the machine, I use the above command ifconfig -a and
only receive the lo0 message. I think I don't need to use #ifconfig
elxl0 plumb everytime I reboot. How can I call it automatically?
3. I want to connnect my Solaris 8 x86 4/01 to the Internet, I heard
that I need to make the NIC visible to the kernel. To make it visible
to the kernel, the above message should display the hardware address
too. BUT my NIC haven't. Is anyone know how to configure it?
Thanks!!
Ringo

  • Going backwards... nice work Apple

Alright, I have the 3G. I understand that when the new OS comes out, not every gadget and new feature is going to be available to me. That said, I liked my phone the way it was, and I was quite used to using it the way I had been.
I listen to a lot of podcasts and streaming audio at the gym, in commutes, in down time, whenever. Before, my 3G was perfectly capable of allowing me to listen to a podcast through iTunes, while still being able to check my mail, browse the internet, or send text messages. Now, to back out of iTunes is to shut iTunes down. Why in the world would you use the new OS to reduce what the 3G was already able to do? I'll be damned if you're getting another $200 or $400 out of me to upgrade. You've made clear you're not interested in providing a product that works, you're interested in providing a product that makes me buy another product. No thanks.
This is not the product I bought and contracted for. Fix it, or give us a way to downgrade without risking bricking our phones.

I figured how to fix the issues you we are having with the new software update that the Apple nerds haven't yet. My phone was sluggish and locking up. After I did this it performs flawless!
    1) you need to hook up your phone to itunes.
    2) go into your iphone menu's in itunes.
    3) deselect all your sync with menu's Contact's,notes, and app's. ALL OF THEM! be sure to not delete any of your info. It'll ask you to discard or save contact info and etc....
    4) Trust me on this! Restore your phone. After restore is complete. DO NOT RESTORE from back up! set up as a new phone. At the same time rename your phone so you can differentiate from old back ups of the phone.
    5) After you have done this you need to go back into your itunes Phone tabs and reapply your sync options. Your contacts, notes, and app's. BE SURE to click APPLY at the bottom of the page after clicking each check box in your sync menu's. You will see them sync with your itunes and shortly after will show up on your phone. The Phone will perform flawless after this. The only issue I ran into was that some apps I had, wont let me use my old user name becuase I forgot to save or didnt set up a password in them.
LAST- you'll know if you did this right when you see that your Clock, Calculator, and Voice memo's are in a new folder type window.
Please let me know how this helped you and if it fixed your phones ****** operation.

  • When setting up converged network in VMM cluster and live migration virtual nics not working

    Hello Everyone,
I am having issues setting up converged network in VMM.  I have been working with MS engineers to no avail.  I am very surprised with the expertise of the MS engineers.  They had no idea what a converged network even was.  I had way more
experience then these guys and they said there was no escalation track so I am posting here in hopes of getting some assistance.
Everyone including our consultants says my setup is correct.
    What I want to do:
I have servers with 5 nics and want to use 3 of the nics for a team and then configure cluster, live migration and host management as virtual network adapters.  I have created all my logical networks, port profile with the uplink defined as team and
networks selected.  Created logical switch and associated portprofle.  When I deploy logical switch and create virtual network adapters the logical switch works for VMs and my management nic works as well.  Problem is that the cluster and live
migration virtual nics do not work.  The correct Vlans get pulled in for the corresponding networks and If I run get-vmnetworkadaptervlan it shows cluster and live migration in vlans 14 and 15 which is correct.  However nics do not work at all.
I finally decided to do this via the host in powershell and everything works fine which means this is definitely an issue with VMM.  I then imported host into VMM again but now I cannot use any of the objects I created and VMM and have to use standard
    switch.
I am really losing faith in VMM fast.
Hosts are 2012 R2 and VMM is 2012 R2 all fresh builds with latest drivers
    Thanks

Have you checked our whitepaper http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Hybrid-Cloud-with-NVGRE-aa6e1e9a for how to configure this through VMM?
Are you using static IP address assignment for those vNICs?
Are you sure your are teaming the correct physical adapters where the VLANs are trunked through the connected ports?
Note; if you create the teaming configuration outside of VMM, and then import the hosts to VMM, then VMM will not recognize the configuration.
The details should be all in this whitepaper.

  • [Solved] 3 seperate NICs dont work in 64bit Live CD but work in 32bit

I'm attempting to install Arch onto a new machine however when I boot into the 64 bit Live CD environment, my NIC does not work. I've tried 3 seperate NICs:
    - The on-board gigabit NIC (Realtek RTL8111/8168)
    - A PCI TP-Link gigabit card (uses a Realtek RTL8169 chip)
    - A PCI Intel gigabit card (Intel 82541PI)
Under 32 bit, all 3 work flawlessly. They pick up DHCP information and can ping local and external addresses. Under 64 bit however, none of them seem to be able to send or receive any network packets. They are all detected properly and have the correct modules loaded (the two realtek NICs have the r8169 module loaded, the intel uses the e1000 module). The line state for each of them changes to up when they are plugged in, but they do not pick up any DHCP information. If I manually set network information for the interfaces, they can only ping localhost and nothing else. No other hosts on the same network can ping the address I assign to them. All 3 NICs work flawlessly under Windows 7 64 bit.
Can someone please help me troubleshoot this?

Great you found a solution for it! Please edit the thread title sometime and add [Solved ] to it, so that others find working solutions easier when searching.
To your question I don't know really; it's an odd sympton. The IOMMU has to do with memory management, but not for virtualisation alone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOMMU has some hints on why it might go wrong without). I would think it is some kind of bios bug, but not sure. There should be some dmesg error related to it when booting the 64-bit ISO though. Interesting would be, if your 64-bit install-disc boot detected your full ram (if more than 4GB) without that feature enabled,

  • DADs on WLS 11g (version 10.3.6.0) do not work (Error 404--Not Found)

Actually we use Application Server 10g (version 10.1.2.3.0) for different Forms 10g Applications (roundabout 1000 Forms) and want to change to Forms 11g and Weblogic Server 11g (version 10.3.6.0). A Test-Application on the Weblogic Server works fine, but DAD’s do not work at all.
In Enterprise Manager 10g i can configure DADs within the GUI of the Enterprise Manager, where i can see, if a connection could be established or not.
In Enterprise Manager 11g Fusion Middleware Control this doesn't seem to exist anymore, so i tried to configure the DADs manually, but something has to be wrong or missing, because there is no connection to the database and the following error appears:
    Error 404--Not Found
From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:
    10.4.5 404 Not Found
The server has not found anything matching the Request-URI. No indication is given of whether the condition is temporary or permanent.
If the server does not wish to make this information available to the client, the status code 403 (Forbidden) can be used instead. The 410 (Gone) status code SHOULD be used if the server knows, through some internally configurable mechanism, that an old resource is permanently unavailable and has no forwarding address.
I added several DAD’s to /opt/oracle/product/Middleware/asinst_1/config/OHS/ohs1/mod_plsql/dads.conf like this:
    <Location /pls/jd-download-dev>
    SetHandler pls_handler
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from All
    AllowOverride None
    PlsqlDatabaseUsername w_web_user_download
    PlsqlDatabasePassword @BWKChfgPacV6yQL40lIKZqXUUA9wC4cmAw==
    PlsqlDatabaseConnectString jddev TNSFormat
    PlsqlNLSLanguage German_Germany.WE8ISO8859P1
    PlsqlAuthenticationMode Basic
    PlsqlDefaultPage w_anwendung.p_web_show_document
    PlsqlAlwaysDescribeProcedure Off
    PlsqlErrorStyle DebugStyle
    </Location>
The passwords were obfuscated with dadTool.pl and the http-Server restarted with /opt/oracle/product/Middleware/asinst_1/bin/opmnctl restartproc process-type=OHS
The files /opt/oracle/product/Middleware/asinst_1/config/OHS/ohs1/mod_plsql.cache.conf and /opt/oracle/product/Middleware/asinst_1/config/OHS/ohs1/moduleconf.plsql.conf were left unchanged.
Our Test-Application generates the following link
    'http://172.106.2.7:9001/pls/jddevdev/B_ARCHIVE.P_ARCHIVE_VIEW?docfid=200'
that seems to be ok, because when i replace IP and port with our old IAS it works fine, but the WebLogic Server generates the above mentioned error.
To get some more information i searched an error_log in /opt/oracle/product/Middleware/asinst_1/diagnostics/logs/OHS/ohs1 but there isn’t any.
I used the following Documentation for configuring the DADs which is for HTTP Server 11g Release 1 (version 11.1.1), because I could not find one for version 10.3.6.0:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/web.1111/e10144/under_mods.htm#i1055269
So probably there are differences between configuring version 10.3.6.0 and version 11.1.1 and so something is wrong configured or missing...
Thank you in advance for your help
    Udo

    Hi Raj,
it is a Sparc Solaris 10
    and yes that's my enviorment.
After some more tests it's seems it's not a real bug but no realy nice working solution.
Eclipse uses for all instances the same secure storage, where OEPE also saves the password.
And if I look right the pasword was saved without the user context, so if you use an other user he takes the same password from the old user.
and I doesn't know how do OEPE check the connection in reality or only reply the last failed login message.
After deleting the complete secure storage and test it again with the juno version it works well.

  • Storage spaces + Hyper-V with multiple 1GBe nics for storage?

    Hi guys!
So I just got my private cloud hardware. I actually put in the order before summer, but due to firmware and certification issues on my desired SuperMicro JBODs delivery was seriously delayed. So much that I've completely forgotten my networking ideas. I
need help/verification. Or at least a URL - most described setups are 10 GBe nowadays... Or even a "not gonna work"  :-)
My setup is supposed to be a 3 JBOD, 2 head node storage spaces/sfos cluster providing storage to a 4 node Hyper-V cluster. I didn't have a budget for a 10 GBe setup, but got a great price on a lot of 1 GBe nics. After allocating management, Hyper-V, etc
I have 3x 1 GBe ports left on all Hyper-V and Storage servers.
I think my original plan was to create three subnets and add one nic from each server. And then I guess I've imagined some kind of SMB3 magic discovering these paths between Hyper-V and storage and just aggregating bandwitdh and providing fault tolerance
by sprinkling fairy dust. Must have been the heat...
So now I'm "replanning" and I realize that I'm going to create a failover cluster at the storage level providing a cluster name and IP. I'm thinking the management subnet where domain info resides is appropriate, but then what about the other three
subnets? I don't want to flood my management subnet with storage traffic, but do want bandwidth and resilience. Did I make a design error, and how do I make the best of the situation?
Disclaimer: My previous experience on virtualization clusters is ISCSI SAN and 2008 R2 Hyper-V clusters. Storage Spaces is completely new to me :-)
And due to overlapping technologies I struggled a bit on placing this thread. Hope I got it right

    Hello,
i did not understand how many NICs you have in each Host. Hyper-V Cluster with 1 GBe NICs work as long as you know that it is not 10 GBe.
In this article is the complete Hyper-V Cluster design in checklist form. I think you should work with this list for some further ideas:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askpfeplat/archive/2013/03/10/windows-server-2012-hyper-v-best-practices-in-easy-checklist-form.aspx
Sorry that i cant give a better answer, but i lack information about about your environment.

  • Solaris 10 Dev. Edition - Network config issue (NIC,DHCP,Can't ping router)

I am a developer getting started with Solaris 10 configuration. I recently installed Solaris 10 and have run into an issue with network connectivity.
I have done much research on this and I was able to get communiction to the internet established once, but the settings were lost on reboot.
Overview - The Solaris box is connected to a router which is acting as a DHCP server.
    AMD 64 dual 2.6
    nForce4+ integrated NIC
    1) I am not able to obtain an address from the router. Nor do I get a respons back when I ping it. I get an IP etc if I boot into Windows so phyicial connectivity is fine.
    2) Upon reboot the device nfo0 as shown using ifconfig -a has an IP of 0.0.0.0.
    3) If I run ifconfig [hostname] my machine gets the ip from the hosts file, but I would like to obtain this from the router.
    4) NOTE - the machine shows as active on my router, but the Solaris box cannot be reached from other computers on the networ, nor do I get a reply back when pinging the router from the Solaris box.
GOAL - reach and obtain a DHCP from the router and have the changes stick upon reboot.
    /etc/hosts contents
    127.0.0.1 localhost loghost
192.168.1.55 solarisX /*<-- this is what I get when I do ifconfig nfo0 solarisX */
    /etc/hosname.nfo0
    netmask + 255.255.255.0
    solarisX
    /etc/defaultrouter
    192.168.1.254
    /et c/netmasks
    192.168.0.0 255.255.2550
    Specific Steps taken:
Using the driver nfo-2.4.5 locate at http://homepage2.nifty.com/mrym3/taiyodo/eng/ I did the following.
    % cd /.../nfo-x.x.x
    % rm obj Makefile
    % ln -s Makefile.${KARCH}_${COMPILER} Makefile
    % ln -s ${KARCH} obj
where ${KARCH} is the result of `isainfo -n`, and ${COMPILER} is
"gcc" or "suncc" which you want to use to make the driver.
    4. Testing
Testing before installation is strongly recommended.
    # cd /.../nfo-x.x.x
    # /usr/ccs/bin/make install
    # ./adddrv.sh
    # /usr/ccs/bin/make uninstall (for solaris7, don't remove the file )
    # modload obj/nfo
    # devfsadm -i nfo (for solaris7, use drvconfig and reboot with -r )
    # ifconfig nfoN plumb ( where N is an instance number, typcally 0 for first card)
    # ifconfig -a ( you will see an entry for nfoN)
    # ifconfig nfoN YOUR-HOST-NAME
    # ifconfig nfoN ( ensure IP address is correct)
    # ifconfig nfoN up ( and then you can test with ping, telnet, ftp ...)
    5. Installation
After you ensure that the nfo driver is fully functional, install it.
    (1) copy the nfo driver into the kernel directory
    # cd /.../nfo-x.x.x
    # /usr/ccs/bin/make install
If you do not test the nfo driver yet, execute the following commands:
    # ./adddrv.sh
    # devfsadm -i nfo (for solaris7, use drvconfig and reboot with -r)
    (2) Configure the network interface. Create and/or modify the following file:
    /etc/hostname.nfoN
    (3) Reboot the system.
    # init 6

Thanks Alan. I worked on trying to get the NIC working again last night. I had it working once, although the settings did not perist. I can still get the device to load, but I can't communciate with the router (it's not physical because another OS can reach it.
I took your advice and tried the sys-unconfig. But I did not have much success.
I am wondering if plopping in a new PCI NIC would be the most efficient route to get the server up.
What kind of NIC do you utilize and have had success with?
I am looking at possibly a DLINK DFE-530 or NetGear FA-311. I don't need wireless at this point just a rock solid DEV box.
Thanks again for the previous info.

  • Clicking "Edit PDF form" stops Adobe Acrobat Pro 11 from working. [FIXED]

As the title says, whenever I click "Edit PDF form" in Acrobat Pro 11, it displays the message "Adobe Acrobat has stopped working" and then when I click OK it closes.
It is a fresh install.  I tried reinstalling, by removing it first, i tried a repair, I also tried using Revo Uninstaller to clean up anything that was left after an uninstall, and still no joy.
    Any help would be appreciated.
It is running on Windows 8.1 Update (x64), and the version number for Acrobat Pro is 11.0.10.
    Thanks!
    **Update**
While I was writing this I had an epiphany, so I checked the Windows application logs which logged the following error every time Acrobat crashed...
Faulting application name: Acrobat.exe, version: 11.0.10.32, time stamp: 0x547e97af
Faulting module name: nvd3dum.dll, version: 9.18.13.4121, time stamp: 0x5474d740
    Exception code: 0xc0000005
which lists nvd3dum.dll as the culprit.  This has something to do with my Nvidia graphics card or drivers (NVIDIA Quadro FX 4600)
So after a little research I discovered a little registry tweak which "specifies the number of seconds that the GPU can delay the preempt request from the GPU scheduler. This is effectively the timeout threshold. The default value is 2 seconds." (Quoted from MSDN)
So I added the REG_DWORD value TdrDelay to the key path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers, and changed the value to 8.  After rebooting this seemed to have solved the issue I was having.
    Here's a screenshot...
    Hope this helps someone!

We created forms in acrobat 9 pro and now with XI pro cannot edit them.  Error message states that livecycle designer is required to edit forms previously created in acrobat.  Called tech support and waited for over an hour before being told that another product needed to be purchased for $300 more than the upgrade cost for acrobat pro XI!!!  From the XI FAQ - The web site states:
The following customers are eligible for a free upgrade:
Customers who purchased a prior license to Acrobat and have purchased an upgrade to Acrobat XI Pro
Customers who have an Adobe Maintenance and Support contract or purchased Upgrade Plan eligible for an Acrobat XI Pro upgrade
Active Creative Cloud Complete members whose memberships started before October 15, 2012
The one-time LiveCycle Designer upgrade is available in English, French, German, or Japanese. Eligible customers can choose which language they would like to receive. Visit the Customer Support Portal to request an upgrade.
After entering in the needed info on the support portal was told that adobe will Not honor the sales rep & web site which both said we are eligible for the free upgrade.  We asked for a full refund and will not longer be using any new adobe products.  We went back to 9 pro forms work fine and adobe lost $.  Nice work adobe - lie to customers and then act surprised that the customers want their $ back!  They told us to just toss their software DVD in the trash where IT belongs, so we did!

  • Volume button not working on iPhone 5

I have tried to reset my iPhone, I rebooted it, played with the audio settings it still doesn't work.
    Any idea anyone?
    Thanks

Assistive touch is a nice work around.  I had the same problem and my phone was still under warranty.  I set up and an appointment at a local Apple Store and they swapped it immediately.  The whole transaction took about 5 minutes to wait for an Apple Rep and 5 minutes to swap the phone.  AppleCare is well worth the cost when you get customer service like this.

  • Nice!  Multilingual forms?

Nice work, guys.  I've been evaluating this APTT for a couple of days and it's working pretty well.
I'm just wondering about support for multi-lingual forms, including non-ASCII characters.
There is a line in the System requirements, "While ATTP is only provided in English, it may be run in all multilingual and localized environments".  I'm not sure exactly what this means, but I'm not expecting ATTP to be translated I'm merely expecting it to return the non-English texts from my form.
My non-English labels are not 7-bit ASCII clean, so I end up with CheckPoints in QTP that test caption.value.text.value for "Français" rather than the form's value "Français", etc.
This looks very much like an encoding problem, but I haven't found a way to sync up the encoding between the form and QTP, either programmatically or manually.  I've looked through the XFA specs, etc.  I'm testing an XML dynamic form using Adobe Reader (no browser), and the form's font (from its properties) is MyriadPro, encoding: Ansi.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Brent

    Hi John,
I was bitten again recently by the comparator's character-encoding bug.
Even if we restrict the data-set to English only, that still doesn't prevent our expected data from containing non-ASCII characters.
Has there been any feedback on a workaround or a fix?

  • MB Black : Network working under Windows and NOT under OSX

    Hello,
Since Monday, MacOSX can't detect my airport and ethernet connection, but, surprise surprise, It works fine under windows XP ! The bluetooth one works on OSX.
I've reinstalled, the whole thing several times (OSX, Windows XP, OSX without bootcamp and XP), reset the PRAM, the PMU each time, but the problem's still here.
Do you think it's a hardware problem ? Has anyone already experienced that ?
It's the 3 logic board I use for the same MacBook, and I'm getting really disappointed...
    Nicolas

Was there anything which may have triggered the problem? If the NICs work under Windoze it's not going to be a hardware issue with the Mac. Try a direct connection to the modem, if this works you can narrow it down to the hardware in-between. It's not the hub (unless that's between router and modem) as it effects the wireless side as well, so it sounds like the router. I assume you've cold booted it, so you could try restoring factory defaults under admin. If both have worked before there must be something which triggered the change, and this is first place I'd start looking.

I need to bind a DatagramSocket to a second "IPv6-enabled" NIC. Binding to the main "IPv4" NIC works fine but I'm being incapable to change to a different NIC. These are my network settings:
    eth0    Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:11:43:c8:bd:1c
              inet addr:192.168.1.17  Bcast:192.168.1.255  Mask:255.255.255.0
              inet6 addr: fe80::211:43ff:fec8:bd1c/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1
              RX packets:3118 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
              TX packets:2608 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
              collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
              RX bytes:3422763 (3.4 MB)  TX bytes:317046 (317.0 KB)
              Interrupt:16
    lo        Link encap:Local Loopback
              inet addr:127.0.0.1  Mask:255.0.0.0
              inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
              UP LOOPBACK RUNNING  MTU:16436  Metric:1
              RX packets:12 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
              TX packets:12 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
              collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
              RX bytes:720 (720.0 B)  TX bytes:720 (720.0 B)
    tun0    Link encap:UNSPEC  HWaddr 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00
              inet addr:127.0.1.1  P-t-P:127.0.1.1  Mask:255.255.255.255
              inet6 addr: aaaa::1/64 Scope:Global
UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1
              RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
              TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
              collisions:0 txqueuelen:500
              RX bytes:0 (0.0 B)  TX bytes:0 (0.0 B)I want my DatagramSocket to binded to tun0 so I've tried with
    DatagramSocket mySocket = new DatagramSocket(port, InetAddress.getByName("127.0.1.1"));and
DatagramSocket mySocket = new DatagramSocket(port, InetAddress.getByName("aaaa::1"));but none of the above methods work: my application is not receiving any UDP traffic on the tun0 interface, at the port specified. I think that binding to a secondary NIC is more complicated than I thought (-:
Any help is welcome !! Thanks !!
    Daniel.

Try that method instead getByName and see if you have better luck, keep in mind what the method documentation says about ipv6 addresses.
    getByAddress
    public static InetAddress getByAddress(byte[] addr)
                                    throws UnknownHostException
Returns an InetAddress object given the raw IP address . The argument is in network byte order: the highest order byte of the address is in getAddress()[0].
This method doesn't block, i.e. no reverse name service lookup is performed.
IPv4 address byte array must be 4 bytes long and IPv6 byte array must be 16 bytes long
    Parameters:
addr - the raw IP address in network byte order
    Returns:
an InetAddress object created from the raw IP address.
    Throws:
UnknownHostException - if IP address is of illegal length
    Since:
1.4This is from the sun api for Java 6 btw. [http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/]

  • Working Laptop

Does anyone have Solaris 8 loaded and running on a laptop of any sort? If so, what is the NIC and the Video? Where did you acquire the vido drivers? What is the resolution?

    I have Sol8 installed on a gateway2000 SOLO9300LX.
    288MB ram
    2 x 12G hd
ATI mobility video (+8M video ram): Needed to buy Xig X server software to get the video working correctly.
Key problem: Cant get the NIC working.
I have tried the 3COMIII, Xircom, SMC etc.
I can't workout if it is a problem identifying the PCMCIA chipset etc
    or just the NIC's
