Is Podcast Producer ready for primetime?

Has anyone gotten Podcast Producer to work consistently? I only had it work once yesterday for one Blog. After that I was not able to connect to the server from Podcast Capture. Kept on getting an error related to unknown username or password. Even logged into the podcast server I couldn't access either the pcastadmin or pcastuser. Tried to delete the users and start over again. Still no success. Wiped the computer and started over again, I setup everything needed. Xgrid would only show its own controller and agent on the Podcast Producer Server. The agents showed they are connected to the XGrid in the XGrid system preference. Since 10.5 Server came out I have installed and tried to configure Podcast Producer at least 9 times. Finally this morning it would upload the video but it never went anywhere. The logs only showed that there were some permission errors on the external storage that is being used for sharing.
As most Mac software is not that hard to setup or use, Podcast Producer would seem to be that easy also. But I am disappointed that I am having this much problems with it. I guess we are going to have to wait until it is more mature before trying to use it in a production setting.

I did not have any of these issues.
I used a Workgroup setup with augmented OD records and then started using server admin to set up Podcast Producer. I followed the setup instruction in the manual step by step (including the dns server entry they suggest and using kerberos etc.) and it worked.
Once starting using it I encountered serveral(*) problems, but overall it is working.
1: Podcast Producer cannot upload to Wikis hosted on https://
2: Serveral Problems with sizes of the Intro and exit movie
3: Encodings cannot be changes due to lack of a tool for it
4: Using large video files (>20 Gb) brings arbitrary workflow failures
5: The encoding step (transforming in final video format) does not scale (cpus)
6: etc....

  • Is 10g ready for primetime?

    As the subject asks: I was wondering if Oracle 10g (enterprise edition) is ready for primetime? Specifically, I am looking for feedback on performance, HA (high-availability), and DR (disaster recovery).
    Are people using it for 24x7, mission-critical applications?
    Have all of the quirks been worked out?
    How about some of the newer features, such as:
    The lastest update of RAC?
    AWS (Automatic Storage Management)? I have heard that it is slow.
    Data Guard?

    Yes, but as you are well aware, a test environment is TOTALLY different than a production environment (in terms of usage and performance). Have you stress-tested the system?We are in the same process, we are using one of our trading application for the same.
    I dont remember properly, but, I heard a very big number of transaction processed on HP as benchmark for oracle 10g.
    Now 10.1.0.4 and 10g release 2 in the market and I believe it is stablized now.

  • IPhoto 6 Not ready for primetime

    I've had it with iPhoto 6!
    The program seems to have been released before it was ready. . . I've had numerous problems that have caused me to lose work and have made my entire system seem unstable (hello spinning beach ball!).
    The first problems occurred after a crash while making a calendar (something numerous other users have also experienced). All photos in my library taken over the past year disappeared. Although they were still in the iPhoto pictures folder, nothing could bring them back into the library. I tried rebuilding and everything else suggested on these boards.
    I finally had to go to a backup and bring back my iPhoto 5 library. I reimported everything (after verifying the library and permissions) and thought that would cure the problems. But I was wrong.
    After working for a two days on a photobook (I wouldn't dare try a calendar again). I opened iPhoto this morning and was prompted to rebuild my thumbnails as they needed to be "upgraded" to the new version. I declined. Afterwards, I had no photos in my library and my new book as well as two created in iPhoto 5 had also disappeared.
    Yes, the photos themselves are still present in the Originals and Modified folders in the iPhoto library. I haven't lost them and could just recreate the library (if I trusted the program enough to spend the time doing so).
    More importantly, I'm almost sure that I've lost my books (does anyone know where they might be stored or how to recover them?). I quit normally from the program last night after working on the book. Thankfully, I had created a .pdf file of it beforehand, so I can look at it.
    Its just too much work to chase after a buggy, buggy, unstable program. I'm going back to iPhoto 5 and would advise others to do so, too -- at least until Apple fixes its mess.

    Primetime? IMHO it's not even ready for naptime! How such an immature program ever got out of the crate is beyond me. I installed and ended up with only one photo of about 300 visible. I messed and messed, re-loaded my backup folder and on and on. Had up to quadruplicates...deletede xtras etc.
    Then, when I scrolled up, the photos would disappear as I moved the cursor...shutdown and restart resulted in about 50 percent of photos visible. Nothing like making an 8x10 of a grayed-out exclamation point with a title..:~}
    I'm gonna return it and wait...iPhoto5 please come back.

  • Quicktime X Not Ready For Primetime

    Not only have I lost the export capabilities that I had with Quicktime Pro - which I use continuously to convert to AVI files for Stadium Animations - but Quicktime X would not play a large After Effects rendered file - 100 mb, 15984 px x 32 px. I re-rendered 5 times before I tried moving the .mov file to a machine that still had Quicktime 7 Pro on it and viola - it worked.
    You need to FIX QUICKTIME X - FAST. There are a lot of professionals out here that rely on Pro and you've left them hanging.

    Oh, I am patient and can listen to you rant, but strictly speaking rants are not allowed on the forums (terms of use, blah, blah) and it doesn't do any good (except to vent steam) ranting here.

  • Refactoring in 10.1.3 not ready for PrimeTime.

    I have been trying to use the refactoring in JDEV to reorganize my project. Why does it drop the custom code in the impls and replace it with the JDEV generated ones. Every entity object so far has has its code replaced during the refactoring. Doing a preview on the package first show no errors?

    Ok I am a little closer.
    I had to add some new BCs to my project, so I created them using the new structure that I was trying to refactor. Once I had the new structure for the packages, I started with the associations
    From the applications navigator I selected all of associations, right clicked and selected refactor->move. All refactored with no error.
    Again from the applicatiosn navigator I selected all of my entity objects, right clicked and moved them to the new package. Everything worked correctly except for one association was still pointing to the old package. Pulling it up in the editor it all looked correct, I clicked apply then recompiled all , made my war file and pushed to server. So far no errors.
    One Item of concern, if you have custom base classes (entityimpl, view, am , etc) refactoring them to a new location does not update the BC project properties base classes location. Nor to any views that have the class extends option selected. I had to edit these by hand, but not a show stopper.
    Moving the Views and AM to a new package: The am configuration reset, my custom setting did not follow, ie the security setting of must, and using a Data source.
    The DataBindings.cpx did not update, still pointed to the old package and threw an error when trying to run app, edited file by hand and it works now.
    Serious Error when moving views to a new package:
    This code in my patch.xml file became this:
    <ListValidationBean
    xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adfm/validation"
    ResId="TypeCode_Rule_0"
    OnAttribute="TypeCode"
    OperandType="JBO" </Attribute>
    <Attribute
    Instead of looking like this:
    <ListValidationBean
    xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adfm/validation"
    ResId="TypeCode_Rule_0"
    OnAttribute="TypeCode"
    OperandType="JBO"
    ListValue="lmit.wots.model.views.lov.LookupsAllView.LookupId" >
    </ListValidationBean>
    Once I edited by hand, things worked correctly again.
    I see that it is possible to refactor now, however you must use move instead of renaming the whole package, and you have to edit a few things by hand.
    Thank you Shay for the help and attention to this matter.

  • So, IOS 8.1.1 still not ready for PrimeTime for iPad 2 and 3?

    Not seeing hardly any positive responses from iPad 2 and 3 owners.
    Of the responses I have seen iOS 8.1.1 is still not solving some major iPad 2 issues meaning,probably, not solving any iPad 3 issues, either.
    Are the majority of iPad 2 and 3 owners even downloading and installing this recent update?
    iPad 2 and 3 owners still shy about updating iOS 8 any further for fear of making their iPad operations worse?
    Not seeing anything about whether this updates is really solving iPad 2 and 3 issues or not.
    It's looking as if I will still have to continue waiting for upcoming updates until all of the issues on older iPads are straightened out by Apple.

    iOS 8 and iOS 8.1.1 work fine on the iPad 3. I haven't had and problems.
    The iOS 8.1.1 update is advertised as containing performance improvements for the iPad 2.

  • Podcast Producer Youtube workflow fails. Script produces runtime errors

    A guide was written regarding creating a Podcast Producer workflow for YouTube. Unfortunately, the completed script (even with all of the relevant API bits installed properly) returns an exception when trying to upload the video (client ID, data API have been substituted into the script). The Java script compiles and runs. However, when it failed, I decided to toString() the exception which was called and found out that Google was returning "Bad Request," meaning something with the way the Script was trying to talk to Google was bad. The code is still the reference code with the CID/DevKey subbed in, but because of the Bad Request exception passed by Google, it fails to upload, and thus, fails entirely.
    Is there a proper working YouTube workflow anywhere?

    Apologies: I just found the Podcast Producer forum, so I'm going to mark this one as answered and repost the question in the Podcast Producer forum now that I know a specific forum for it exists.

  • Looking for: Promo Movies of Podcast Producer--- slick demo's

    Why can't I find any actual video podcasts of Podcast Producer? Is it too new? Does someone have to capture a capture with another tool? (...like an iShowU capture of how to use Snapz Pro...)
    I want to show a video clip to demo this to my boss. Something to show the aspects of this being a great centralizing database for creating and publishing online video training movies... but she ain't going to get that from a one-page blurb on the Apple site's Leopard Server page.
    Anyone? Links to actual movies about Podcast Producer?

    The OS X 10.7 servers we installed didn't have it and Apple support told us it wasn't included.  But we could migrate it from older 10.6 and 10.5 servers to run it.  But it won't run on 10.8 at all now.

  • Lion Server just for Podcast Producer?

    I know nothing about servers and such, but am starting a video podcast for our small tribal college to teach our language and culture. I have a new iMac and Lion and use Final Cut Pro X.
    Can I install Lion Server just for Podcast Producer and ignore all the other stuff with it? Does PCProducer work well? And does it work well with video?
    Thank you for any and all advice or input.

    Correct.

  • Podcast Producer for lecture capture with Kaltura

    I am a relatively new employee at a university and I am helping the school set up a lecture capture system. I've researched several options already and this idea of useing Podcast Producer with an Apple Server we already have and Kaltura to host and manage our media which we already have I'm having trouble finding solid info about.
    Background about me: I have a video background, very limited with servers and scripts. I know enough to understand what's what. I'm trying to work with the guy who setup the server too.
    Alright, now what I'd like to see happen:
    We already have an Apple server and a room with recording hardware (camera, screen capture ability, document camera, etc) already. We use Blackboard for our course management system and Kaltura for our media management. We're pursuing Kaltura's Blackboard building block, but haven't gotten there yet. I know Podcast Producer is capable of sending the recorded podcasts elsewhere, but my knowledge of what is possible with that is very limited. I'd like to see a lecture recorded with the Podcast Producer, then sent to a category on Kaltura or the appropriate course within Blackboard from the Apple server.
    I have already asked this on Kaltura's forums and awaiting a response but figured since this also involved an Apple product, it wouldn't hurt to inquire about any knowledge here. And I know a lot of this depends on what Kaltura is capable of as well. Thanks in advance.

    Bad form, but I am going to respond to my own question here with a possible solution. I'm doing this for others who may be stuck on the same thing.
    It looks like a solution would be to create a Folder Action on the directory that the raw video files will be uploaded to. This would be an AppleScript that will run the podcast (see 'man podcast') command line tool to manually submit the files to the Podcast Server workflow.

  • SMTP Settings for Podcast Producer

    Recently our University changed email providers, which required us to change settings on our devices.  I updated the SMTP settings in Podcast Producer to reflect the new service, however I am no longer receiving the administrator emails whenever XGrid starts or starts a job.
    Here's the rub... the user notification emails are working fine using the same SMTP settings.  Is there somewhere else that SMTP settings are stored in Podcast Producer that I missed?  I am able to ping the SMTP server fine with no problems.

  • Hinting for Streaming w/ Podcast Producer

    Can I hint movies for streaming with a Podcast Producer 2 workflow. We have upgraded our Xserve from 10.5 to 10.6 and we are utilizing the QTTS to serve up our movie files to customers and employees. Our files produced by Podcast Producer need to be hinted. How is this accomplished? I don't see an option in Podcast Composer during workflow creation.

    I confess I do not know Podcast Producer 2 as much as I'd like. I do know that it maintains a catalog of content that is published through RSS and Atom feeds. In principle, it should be possible to create a tool that would delete content and kill any feed entries linked to it. Such a tool would have to understand both SQLite3 and XML. I don't "think" there is such a tool…it might be interesting to create one. Anyone who did create a catalog editor would come to understand a lot about how PcP 2 works under the hood.

  • Fix for Podcast Producer Removing Metadata?

    We can create a file with all of our metadata included in the file. Then when we upload it to our server using Podcast Producer it strips out our metadata. Can anything be done to preserve our metadata during upload?
    Thanks,
    C Lyman

    You have 2 options, both are using the podcast command line
    1- remove the feed using podcast --removefeed --feed_uuid UIID
    2- disable the feed using podcast --disablefeed --feed_uuid UIID
    UUID is the feed_uuid of the workflow feed

  • Is Nokia ready for high end market?

    It is the time of smartphones.  With the introduction of 3G, distance and speed are not a barrier at all.  Prediction is that, we will see a shift from laptop to smartphones, something we experienced a few years ago when laptop replaced desktops. So, is Nokia really ready for this competitve market?  I believe they are still not ready looking at the way they support N series and E series.
     My horror story started the day I purchased my N96, exactly 4 months back.   I have been watching the developments of N95 and wanted to own one.  Nokia released N96 by the time I made my decision.  The problem started when I started seeing low memory errors.  To my surprise, I noticed that Nokia uses phone memory for messages and N-gauge.  Configuring "mass memory" as the storage for messages didn't solve the problem completely as it failed to move all messagesI searched for some file explorer kind of applications to explore and clean phone memory.  I wish if Nokia had one.  The solution given to me by Nokia support was to reset the phone.  And, that cleared all data from my phone.  So, here are a list of my pain points
    - Does Nokia expect us to reset phone for every small issues.  Note that, these are not just phones, but smart phones.  More than contacts, I have my personal data, bookmarks, configurations, rss feeds, video feeds, radio stations, podcasts, GPS locations, blogging tools, applications etc. installed.  Getting back the phone in the same state will take days after a hard reset.  Do I agree if my laptop service center tells me that they have to format my harddisk everytime I take my laptop for servicing? Nokia Care's standard answer is to update the firmware (though I have the latest firmware) and reset the phone for any issues.  I only wish if Nokia trained their technicians to handle smartphones.
    - N96 reboots when I use GPS 50% of the times (when you use it for longer duration either with google map or Nokia map or sports tracker)
    - Phone hangs when you move from wifi hotspot to other places while wifi scan is going on (I don't see this issue after upgrading to 12.043)
    - There is no way to restart the phone when the phone hangs.  You have to take out the battery and put it back.
    - I get disconnected frequently when I'm on long calls.  Though I can blame my network provider, I know its not completely because of them.  My N70 doesn't have this problem.
    - I have been having a long battle with Nokia support and bluetooth issues.  I tried to use Motorola HT820 headset with this phone.  Phone hangs or reboots 90% time when I turn on the headset.  Nokia's standard answer is that Motorola HT820 is not a supported accessory.  I agree, but is it acceptable if phone reboots or hangs when I tried to use an unsupported accessory?  Only way to reboot the phone when it hangs is to remove the battery and place it back.  Why can't they give a reset switch hidden somewhere if they can't write bugfree code (and nonone can).  I have been doing this for the last one month while trying to convince Nokia that they have a problem with their bluetooth stack. I can prove that it happens only with A2DP profile.  I have been using a plantronics bluetooth headset without any problem.  I'm also using HT820 with my Nokia N70 which supports only HSP profile. Unfortunately, N96 doesn't provide an option to choose what profile you want to use when you pair a bluetooth headset.  I could have listened to music from my laptop (A2DP) while the headset is connected with phone (HSP), and I don't miss any calls.  I'm pretty sure it is a bug in their bluetooth stack; only if I could talk to one of their developers and explain the problem.
    - You know the commotion Nokia created when they removed VoIP stack from N96.  Thanks to Fring, I use VoIP and skype with N96 today.
    - The NetWork stack is so cumbursome.  Each applications have to define their own access points and rights.  Why can't it be in the platform level? Just imagin you doing this on your laptop for each of the applications.
    - Its better not to talk about the battery.  It comes for less than a day for me.  But, you can always blaim the usage.
    How do we make Nokia listen to issues?  Do they have any customer feedback forum (please, not through the Nokia Care centers)?  I wish if they improve, after all, I still love my phone (Yes, I paid a good amount for this phone)

    N96, FW: 12.043

    Hi Jaimon,
    I'm with you - I've had my N96 nearly six months and am VERY disappointed.
    I just bought a Parrot Party Bluetooth speaker. A GREAT little unit. Needless to say, the implementation of A2DP leaves a LOT to be desired on the N96. Basically, it's like listening to a CD that skips every 10 seconds. The N96 cannot keep up the stream of data fast enough. It's VERY annoying.
    I checked to make sure no other apps were running to make sure it wasn't something else running that was causing the problem, but no, it's rubbish (I have firmware 12.043). Other people in my office can connect their Blackberries etc... no problem. Plays back beautifully, but my N96? Piece of garbage.
    Nokia have a LOT to answer for! Like you say, a phone that costs more than a laptop and this is the level of service we get. I have written TWICE via their online customer service form, and on each occasion received an email saying I can expect a response in 72 hours. I've never received ANYTHING!
    Also, I had a Plantronics headset - Explorer 340. A nice headset. Same problems as mentioned elsewhere, would intermittently be disconnected and reconnected - very annoying. Last week, it paired but would not connect. Plantronics' support was wonderful! So efficient. They're exchanging the unit with a newer model (brand new) because they cannot replace the old model. Maybe that will work better. Meanwhile, because I NEED a headset for driving (and the supplied stereo headset is pathetic - cable too short, microphone ends up around your waist (USELESS!)) I bought (*gasp*) a Nokia BH-101. Paired fine with the N96 (as one would EXPECT), but the headset itself is lousy - such a poor design. I challenge anyone to make it fit in their ear comfortably enough as to be able to HEAR the bloody thing while driving. I have to keep one hand on it to keep it in my ear. USELESS NOKIA!
    What is it WITH this company?! Why have they lost the plot?!??!

  • When Podcast Producer says it's running but isn't (apache fails to start)

    We've set up a new Intel XServe up with Leopard Server (10.5.6) and are having trouble persuading the Podcast Producer engine from starting.
    First, we've set up all the accounts and settings exactly per Apple's PP documentation. Yes, I'm aware of the need to significantly tweak the defaults and that you don't just click "start" We have a fully functioning OD Master on this machine, plus DNS, Kerberos, XGrid, QTSS and our regular web services (on port 80) via Apache.
    We try to start the Podcast Producer in Server Admin. The dot goes green, indicating that the service is running. However, no one can connect to it using the Podcast Capture application (and yes, users attempting that are clients of the OD Master).
    The logs show what's not happening, but not why:
    The pcastserverd_out.log shows many repetitive instances of:
    Thu Jan 22 16:27:33 +1100 2009 -- Starting pcastserverd apache...
    pcastserverd_error.log shows many repeated instances of:
    Unexpected exception in check: Failed system command: /usr/sbin/httpd -f /usr/share/podcastproducer/apache/httpd.conf -k start (256)
    and, less often:
    Unexpected exception starting mongrel instance: Failed system command: /usr/sbin/httpd -f /usr/share/podcastproducer/apache/httpd.conf -k start (256)
    I have traced this error to the execution of a ruby file:
    /usr/share/podcastproducer/pcastserverd/lib/pcast_server.rb
    where there is a routine that obviously attempts to check "mongrel and apache" for something. Here's the routine:
    def check
    ASLLogger.debug("Checking mongrel and apache...")
    begin
    if (!check_apache)
    start_apache
    end
    if (ServerPreferences.mode == "main")
    @mongrelbase_port.upto(@mongrel_baseport + @num_mongrels - 1) do |portnum|
    start_mongrel(portnum)
    end
    end
    rescue Exception => boom
    ASLLogger.error "Unexpected exception in check: #{boom}"
    end
    end
    Here's the question: how do I further trace this fault to work out what's going on and how to fix it? Why does SA insist the PP engine is running when evidently it isn't? Why won't this instance of Apache launch properly?
    I am assuming that the PP invoked instances of Apache and it's "mongrels" (whatever they are) are using SSL on ports in the 8xxx range, and that these are entirely unrelated to the web services I've already set up for webmail, wikis and blogs elsewhere in SA.
    Your advice is appreciated.

    When you are charging what are you plugged into?
    You should plug the nano either into a power brick or directly into the back of your computer. Do not use USB hubs, or the USB ports on the front of the computer at first. Just confirm you can get a full charge on the USB connection at the back or from the power brick.
