Is pre-paid possible?

i am really thinking about buying an iphone and live in australia. I am just wondering if i can put my optus 3G simcard in a iphone 3G and keep it as pre-paid (pay as you go)? And it AT&T american? is it used in aus? I have looked through thousands of discussions and havent got a straight forward answer.
thanks a heap for any answers

I would say a minimum level of data would be 150Mb a month but this would be assuming that you didn't really use Safari at all.
You would be much safer with somewhere between 500Mb-1Gb i would consider this a safe range.
I don't really use Safari that much but i do surf the App store a bit and have Push eMail setup and i will easily use the 300Mb that i have for the month.
If your using Apps like Facebook, eBay or the App store say that have pictures and the like that download all the time and pictures to boot you would use more than me by far.
Personally i would say Pre-paid with an iPhone (in Aus anyway) is probably a bad idea as Call rates are very high and so are data charges.
I would budget somwhere between $80-$150 a month for it with the plan and usage and all that, and if your spending that much you might as well be on a contract and take advantage of the cheaper calls (or more included) and the cheaper data rates.
And to top it all off the carrier you use will play a part in it as well as coverage for calls and data can be limited depending on who you choose though Optus isn't too bad they are second in coverage behind Telstra (though it is a pretty big gap from first to second) It's one of those cases of you have this amazing phone that can do so much yet can't use it cause you don't have reception or not the reception that you need (3G that is)

  • Can I port my number if switching from a post-paid to a pre-paid and back to a post-paid?

This is a little convoluted, so I'll use bullet points.
    1) I am currently on a family plan that is paid for by my former employer. I need to leave that plan by the end of this month.
    2) I would like to port the number from this plan to a pre-paid plan on Verizon for 2 months.
    3) After 2 months, I would like to port the same number back to a post-paid plan.
Is this possible? I understand I'll have to downgrade to a 3G phone for that time.
The only reason I want to do it this way is I want the new iPhone in October and if I sign a 2-year contract tomorrow, I won't be able to buy a new phone, right?
Or is the new phone not tied to when you start your contract, but rather to the last time you purchased a new phone? If that's the case, can I port my number to a new contract, use my old phone and buy the new one in October at the subsidized rate?
    Thanks very much in advance!
    Tracy

Well I think you can get the best answers if you walk into a VZW store. But to my knowledge, you will be able to convert your existing number and start a prepaid plan. Then once you have the prepaid plan, I believe it must be on the Prepaid account six months before you can convert it back to a contract account.
And as for the new phone, as long as you start your new contract with your existing phone, you should be able to get the new iPhone in october at the the discounted rate, the same rate you would get if starting a new contract.

  • Set up and activate Telstra Pre-Paid mobile broadband

Set Up Your Pre-Paid Mobile Broadband WiFi Device
Activate Your New Telstra Pre-Paid Service

Re: Set up and activate Telstra pre-paid mobile broadband
I currently have internet at 6/320 Manly Road Manly West Qld, but have recently moved, so need to know what my options are on moving the service to my new address.
I tried Wi-Fi from the main house at the new address, as I live in the unit in the back yard, but even with an 'extender' which we purchased today, there is minimal WI-FI.
Is it possible to get a moveable modem so that I can take it anywhere, and have this instead of my current service, I don't need a home phone, what are my options?

  • Pre-paid receipts/invoices

I need a receipt (preferably a tax invoice if possible but at least a RECEIPT) for two $180 prepaid recharges made on line. Telstra explain they have GST problems with issuing an official TAX INVOICE if the recharge is purchased on line ........ but not if you purchase it in a store?  How can that be? Who am I to argue with Telstra's GST/ATO interpretations?  But surely I am within my rights to at least get some form of RECEIPT for these payments?  Putting the GST and official TAX INVOICE question to one side, I am incredulous that Telstra can say they can't provide a RECEIPT for a purchase - just beacuse it was made on line. Can I get a refund for my online purchases and go get them in a store instead?  Or is there some way I can get a RECEIPT for the two $180 payments?

Thanks Clyne You are absolutely right.  It's there now!  Guess you just have to know that the receipts are only available from the 3rd of the month - and where to find them. Also have to ignore a lot of what is said at  https://go.telstra.com.au/helpandsupport/-/pre-paid-tax-invoices.  Because that says things like: "Please note: because of the way GST is applied, these tax invoices are only available after you've used your Pre-Paid credit, and not before such as at the time of recharge." Not true?"You can also obtain a receipt for recharging your Pre-Paid service if you purchase through one of our retail outlets. Unfortunately we are presently unable to offer receipts for recharges purchased online."  Not true?"Please note: this is a receipt, which is not a tax invoice, but can still be used in place of a tax invoice when used in accordance with Australian Taxation Office (ATO) guidelines."Not true? Anyway, thanks to your guidance, I've found "tax invoices" for my recharges (even though they show zero GST).

  • Upgrading from Pre Paid to Post Paid or Contract?

    Hello,
I have been a pre-paid customer for more than a year and just found out I can change or upgrade to a "Post Paid" or Regular account?  What is the process  or how do I go about doing this? Are there extra fees involved with processing the request or deposits required to do so? Last but not least, am I able to keep my same phone number?
Thank you in advance for any info!
    Deb

Yes, it is possible.  You'll need to contact Verizon's postpaid customer service, and the number can be found under the "Contact Us" link on the top right of this page.  I do not believe there are any fees, but you may need to pay a deposit.  Verizon will check your credit and make that determination.  If you are OK with whatever deposit they decide to request, you can set up the postpaid account with your current phone number.

  • Pre-paid Droid

If I have a regular service Droid X is it possible to switch it to the pre-paid service?

If it is possible, you would have to switch to the prepaid plan with the data package. Of which is actually more expensive than the post-paid plan.

  • What is the difference between a contract program & pre-paid?

I'm on a contract plan now with Verizon but the pre-paid seems like a better deal for me.  Is it worth it/possible to change plans?  What would be the ins/outs of it?

Yes, it's possible to move your number to a prepaid account.  You just have to call Prepaid Customer Service (the number can be found at the "Contact Us" link in blue at the top right of this page) and make the switch.
If you want to use a daily prepaid plan, only "feature" type phones that do not require a data package will be compatible.  You can check about your specific model with the Prepaid CSR when you call.
The main difference is that you must pay in advance for prepaid service, and with the daily plans, you only pay for the days you make calls on your phone.

  • LG Chocolate to Pre-Paid phone card

Ok, I have this LG Chocolate that an old friend gave to me. I was wondering if it was possible to take the phone to Verizon and get it to where I can use pre-paid phone cards on them. If so, how much would it cost.
    Thanks much.

You can open up a prepaid account with your own equipment. Here is a link provided for the prepaid website to view plans and prices.

  • Verizon Pre-Paid Visa Debit Card - Cash Back

Does anyone know if you can use cash back features for the Verizon Pre-Paid Debit Card like you can with a true bank debit card?  For example can I purchase an item for $10 and request $90 cash back for a total of $100 withdrawn from the card.
    Thanks in advance.
    Mike

I'm sorry Mike, I don't believe that is possible with the gift card.

  • Pre Paid cards

I Went over my limit on my pre paid Visa card and my last iTunes purchase went through, what do I do?!  will I get into big trouble or what?!??!

Don't know how you managed that, the purchase would usually be rejected.   If you know how much is involved, simply pay it into the account soon as possible.  You cannot be in trouble because Apple accepted the order.

  • Since last software update, pre-paid internet does not work anymore. Get "you have not signed up for a data plan" message. Pre-paid acct is in order! What's up???

I have had  an iPad 3G for more than a year now. I did not get it with a SIM card, since I expected to use almost completely at home, where we have wireless internet. Eventually, I decided  it would be handy to be able to take it on the road, and signed up for pre-paid Internet with KPN (national Dutch telecommunications company). That worked fine, until the last big iPad software update. Since then, whenever I try to make a connection outside the house, I get the following message…
    Mobile Data Account
You have not signed up for a data plan.
Would you like to set up a new account?
If you don’t, you can do it later in Settings.
…with the options of ‘Later’ or ‘Now’ to press. If I press Now, I get a screen “Please wait while the page is loading – this should only take a few seconds to complete.” But it never does, the ball just keeps spinning and spinning and spinning….
To my mind, with pre-paid internet I should not HAVE to set up a Mobile Data Account in the first place. I’ve checked with KPN, and my account is completely in order. I’ve checked with the local Apple store, and the geniuses say they’ve never seen this. Can anyone help me?

I updated to 3.6.4 and when I went to NetFlix to watch the next show of a series, it said
    something like
    Installation complete, restart your browser.
I restarted browser, same problem. Restarted comp. Same problem.
I updated Adobe Flash 10.1, still same problem.
But able to watch some vids on other sites, but full screen gave me the big blank white screen with audio only, had to click around in the dark ( so to speak) to find the minimize button.
I did a System Restore to before the Firefox and Adobe updates.
I then did not update Firefox as recommended and went to NetFlix and wellah, i can view the movies again.
    And Full Screen is fine.
I then experimented and updated Firefox only, went to NetFlix and got same msg with no viewable shows.
So did a System Restore once more.
Staying at 3.6.3 for a while longer until I know I can watch my movies.
I don't own a TV, so this is my only form of an occasional escape.
I do hope this is figured out soon.
With what I have done, it seems to be Firefox, Not Flash.
    Good Luck to us all.

Hi I have an I pad 64 gig and internal wifi bought about 2 months ago. it keeps coming up with a message "this i pad has not been backed up" I have no idea how to do it can you help.
I also have an I phone 4s with the same message both are with telstra the I pad has a 12 month pre paid wifi contract and the phone is on a monthly contract.

Sounds like you actually paying for cellular service and you really need to be on wifi to backup your ipad/iphone.
Normally you have to be connected to wifi and you can do manual backup by going to Settings- icloud- storage and backup and pressing backup now button. Start with your ipad, usually size of the backup smaller and return here if you encounter a problem.

  • I have an IPhone 4 that I just activated yesterday with a pre paid plan, but data doesn't work

I activated the phone yesterday.  The wifi works but the 3g data does not.  I have between 3-5 bars of strength but the phone will not connect to the internet.  I had a virgin mobile pre paid phone that did not give me any trouble.  Please help.  I have done a hard reset, I have reset the network settings, as well. Neither have worked.  I have also turned the airport mode on and off, that did not work.

Sounds like your phone is in recovery mode.  In this case, all data on it is gone.  There's nothing to back up.
