Is SCVMM part of SCCM 2012 R2 package?

I understand their two different products, i was wondering do we get another tab in SCCM where we can merge SCVMM after installation? if not, can SCVMM be installed on the SCCM server? is this best practice? and lastly does SCVMM uses SQL to store any VMs
data?
loads of questions there but any helpful info will be useful!
Thanks
Bodrul

SCVMM and SCCM are two different products. There is no direct integration between the two and you will not be able to manage VMM resources from SCCM console. The two product can be integrated using System Center Orchestrator: you may, for example, create
orchestrations that use VMM to deploy new virtual machines and then use SCCM to configure software deployment for the new VM.

  • SCCM 2012 Deployment Packages and Applications deployment order

Hello I have an application which deploys Office 2013 through SCCM 2012 I then want to copy some templates to two directories in Office. I have added a script the OFC tool which is suppose to run after the install. But the files don't appear. If I run the
same script manually all the files are copied. I ended up creating a package just for the Office Template files, but I have to run this manually afterwards. Should I Persist with the script or is there a way to run the package automatically after the application
    deployed has run?

Sounds like best solution is to create an MSI that can copy the template files and deploy as an application after Office Install. Is this something I can do in Install Shield?
Seems weird that they would have an option in the MSP to run a script but it doesn't work.
I wouldn't go to that trouble myself, but that's because I don't author MSIs as part of my role (we have a packaging team who do that task, and they seem to regard authoring an MSI as the solution for everything ;)
the ConfigMgr AppModel happily caters for all kinds of payloads, despite referring to them as "applications" there is no requirement for the payload to be an MSI.
MS have long documented that the "run scripts" and "chaining" features of the Office setup engine are "not robust" (i.e. not very tolerant, are a one-shot kind of thing). Some seem to work just fine, others have no joy with it. I don't use it myself, there
are plenty of other methods, but I find it comes down to what you are comfortable/confident/familiar with. Everything has pros and cons, and above all else, I've found that it's my/our assumptions/understandings that tend to be why things go off-course.

  • SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012: Failed Packages are reinstalled ??

We're going to migrate SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012 (side by side).
On SCCM 2007 we have (for example): Advertisement "ADV1" that execute program "Program1" of Package "Package1". (example....)
What happend if a computer "PC1" is migrated to SCCM 2012 when execution result of "ADV1" on SCCM 2007 was failed ??
    1) If I migrate only "Package001" and create a new deployment "Deploy1" to launch program "Program1" of Package "Package1 , by default, "PC1" is going to execute "Deploy1". I known it...
    2) If I migrate "Package001" and "ADV1".....Will "PC1" execute "ADV1" on SCCM 2012 ???? This is my question
    Thanks

Taken directly from Technet, Regards Damon.
    Will
advertisements rerun after they are migrated?
No. Clients that you upgrade from Configuration Manager 2007 will not rerun advertisements that you migrate. System Center 2012 Configuration Manager retains the Configuration
Manager 2007 Package ID for packages you migrate and clients that upgrade retain their advertisement history.

  • Exporting SCCM 2012 R2 package best approach

    Hi,
I would like minimize the errors possibility when SCCM admin are loading package on different environment. In the past, I was using SMS file and as I see they are still support by MS. On the other side, it is possible to export package as a Zip.
Should I still work with sms file, read WMI and export to xml file or export as a zip? Any opinion?!
    Thanks,

It might be possible from the wizard but with PowerShell is it possible? What is in the zip file?
See the powershell help if it's possible:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj821831(v=sc.20).aspx
Metadata and content is in the zip file.

  • Remove sccm 2012 client package from task sequence

Hello, is possible to remove the sccm client package from task sequence ? i am deploying OS to workgroup computers and i dont want install the sccm client . I am using MDT to create the task sequence.
    Erickson Martinez

No, if you are using a task sequence in ConfigMgr (MDT integrated or not) then a client package is mandatory. The only way to get rid of the client is to deinstall it at the end of the task sequence (for example by using the SMSTSPostAction variable).
Another option, if you don't want the client, is to use MDT to deploy those machines. But that would cause an extra deployment mechanism to maintain.

  • Lync 2013 x64 silent client deployment via SCCM 2012 SP1

    Greetings everyone!
I ran into a problem with Lync 2013 x64 silent deployment.
I need to provide every workstation with Lync 2013 client, so i decided to use deployment via SCCM 2012 sp1.
I created 2 msp files with OCT, one based on x86 Office 2013 Proplus, and other based on x64 Office 2013 Proplus.
Added them as applications to sccm software library.
Deployment of Lync 2013 x86 application was a success with over than 80% compliance.
But all Lync 2013 x64 automatic installations finish with different errors.
I created special device collection for workstations with office 2010 x64 and 2013 x64, because i can't install other architecture products once it has x64 product installed.
My membership query-rules for this collection:
    Office 2013 x64
    select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE on SMS_G_System_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.ResourceId
    = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where UPPER(SMS_G_System_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.SoftwareCode) = "{90150000-0011-0000-1000-0000000FF1CE}"
    Office 2010 x64
    select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE on SMS_G_System_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.ResourceId
    = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where UPPER(SMS_G_System_INSTALLED_SOFTWARE.SoftwareCode) = "{90140000-0011-0000-1000-0000000FF1CE}"
My application deployment type points to setup.exe in office 2013 x64 installation folder, where i created msp file in updates folder via OCT and edited config.xml file in proplus.ww folder.
    So my installation program looks like this setup.exe /adminfile updates\1lync.msp /config proplus.ww\config.xml
The same configuration works with Lync 2013 x86 deployment, except other setup folders.
When i try running installation program setup.exe with /adminfile and /config parameters locally, it installs successfully without errors or warnings.
I'm trying to find out problem source, does anyone have ideas what I am doing wrong?
Also i'm trying to reduce office 2013 installation folder size, what subfolders are necessary for Office 2013 proplus installation (still installing only lync with common files and tools)? Because now 3.5 GB package is quite hard to distribute to sccm secondary
    sites with deployment point.
    Thanks in advance.

  • SQL Connection Failed for SCCM 2012 R2 (Unable to load user-specified certificate)

We've recently completed an upgrade from SCCM 2012 SP1 to 2012 R2 and have been running in the new environment for about a week. As of this morning, The consoles failed to connect to the CAS' and one of the Primary Site's database. The issue was resolved
easily enough by addressing a certificate issue in SQL, but I'm left wondering if there's a correlation between the SP1-to-R2 upgrade that would cause the cert to fail. Anyone have experience with this?

We got the same certificate related error events after a fresh install of SCCM 2012 R2 on a new server. It happened during the first reboot after SCCM was installed. In the Certificates mmc, I right-clicked on the certificate used by SQL and chose Manage
Private Keys. Giving the service account that runs the MSSQLSERVER service read rights to the private key allowed SQL to start. However, after a day or so we rebooted the server again, and SQL wouldn't start. Something had removed the service account's read
permission. Since the SCCM configuration wasn't that far along, we uninstalled SCCM. After giving the service account read rights again, and rebooting several times over a few days, and SQL started every time. We then installed SCCM 2012 R2 again, and checked
the certificate's permissions before rebooting. The service account still had read permissions when the install completed, but as soon as the server was rebooted, it lost the permissions again.
The Certificates mmc was then used to request a second computer certificate and then SQL was configured to use that new certificate via SQL Server Configuration Manager. After several days and a number of reboots the SQL services have started normally every
time so the second certificate seems to have fixed the issue. I have kept the original certificate for fear that removing it will cause whatever part of SCCM 2012 R2 that modifies the original certificate to start removing permissions from the new certificate
    as well.

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 and MDT 2012 Task Sequence Templates, MDT File/Settings Packages

We're setting up SCCM 2012 integrated with MDT 2012 for our OSD. My main issue is finding actual reference material for the MDT task sequence templates when integrated with SCCM. The MDT documentation has a lot of information on variables and task sequences
    outside of SCCM integration.
One thing I'd love to find information on is what's actually going on during an MDT Client Task Sequence template. I found this http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/645a77b2-5be6-431d-818c-57d24b1435cc/understanding-mdt-task-sequence?forum=configmgrosd but
it doesn't delve into the kind of detail I'm looking for. I can dig up information through the MDT reference material on some things, but I just can't find anything out there that actually walks you through an SCCM/MDT task sequence template. For instance,
under State Restore what is being referenced in Install Software with base variable name PACKAGES, vs Install Applications and base variable name COALESCED APPS. And, where are you supposed to put these applications? That's just a specific example, I'm hoping
to find some kind of walkthrough.
Two things I'm hazy on are the MDT packages. What exactly are the MDT Settings Package, and the MDT Files Package? What are they used for? What benefits do you get out of using them? And, how exactly do you use them? I know one of them has something to do
with customsettings.ini, but what's the point of using SCCM with MDT if you still have to muck around in the customsettings.ini file?
Either way, it seems like there are a lot of references to SCCM task sequences, and a lot of references to MDT task sequences. But, not together. Which is a bit annoying since the MDT-integrated task sequence templates are very obviously different than either
SCCM or MDT by itself. Any help would be appreciated, even just information on where to look. Maybe I'm just really bad at finding reference material for SCCM/MDT. Thanks.

When MDT integrated with SCCM, We need the following MDT components to be created:
    MDT Boot image
    MDT Toolkit Files
    MDT Settings
The MDT boot image (for example) gives you extra abilities over the standard ConfigMgr boot image such as the ability to display a HTA Refer here:
    http://www.windows-noob.com/forums/index.php?/forum/98-frontends-and-web-services/
MDT Files once created, you will find UDIWizard_Config.Xml file in which you can start User driven Installation OSD using UDI designer.
Refer these links for better understanding:

    Thanks, Prabha G
Thanks for the quick reply. But, what about the MDT Settings Package? Also, both have a pretty big folder structure for each package. Surely it does more than just provide a couple xml and ini files? I'm not looking for anyone to spoon-feed me the information,
but at least a pointer in the right direction for finding the reference material. It seems for SCCM/MDT integration you have to go all over the place finding scraps of information to put together.
Also, any info on the SCCM/MDT task sequence templates? Thanks.

  • Automate USER BASED PACKAGE installations in SCCM 2012

    Hi All,
I want to automate the installation of software(in my case a user based package) from the Application Catalog.
Here is just some general information:
    1. All software(Applications and Packages) deployed to Device Colllections will be published in Software Center
    2. All software(Applications and Packages) deployed to User Based Collections will be published in the Application Catalog
    3. Once software has been deployed from the Application Catalog, it is also available/visible in Software Centre .. this could be confusing for (scripted) test purposes!
To Automate installations i tested the following (Powershell) methods:
Methode 1 - Install Device Based Packages (This works)
    $SoftwareCenter = New-Object -ComObject UIResource.UIResourceMgr
    # to show applications
    $Application = $SoftwareCenter.GetAvailableApplications() | where {$_.name -like $APPNAME}
    # to install an application
    $SoftwareCenter.ExecuteProgram($Application.id, $Application.PackageId, $true)
(once an User Based Package has been installed from the Application Catalog, it will be shown in the results of this method .. but initially it don't!!)
Method 2 - Install Device based Applications (This works)
    Invoke-WmiMethod -Namespace root\ccm\clientsdk -Class CCM_Application -Name Install -ArgumentList 0,"xxAPP scope IDxx",$True,$False,1,1
Method 3 - Install User based Applications
    Invoke-WmiMethod -Namespace root\ccm\clientsdk -Class CCM_Application -Name Install -ArgumentList 0,"xxAPP scope IDxx",$False,$False,1,1
(once an User Based Application has been installed from the Application Catalog, this method can be used .. but initially it can't!!)
Method 4 - Install User Based Packages (NOT WORKING)
This solution is based on an (scripted) installation from the Application Catalog. Information can be found on the following sites:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2012/09/19/extending-the-application-catalog-in-system-center-2012-configuration-manager.aspx
    http://allthingsconfigmgr.wordpress.com/2012/10/02/application-catalog-uncovered/#more-284
You can see the usable operations/methodes, by using the following URL in your SCCM 2012 environment:
    http://YOURSITE/CMApplicationCatalog/ApplicationViewService.asmx
The method i tried for an installation part is 'installapplication', see example below:
    $service.Installapplication($appid, $deviceid, $null)
This syntax is correct because it's giving a result that indicates the my command was correct(when i change the variables it produces an error), but that's it ... no application is installed.
For the record: the operations/methods 'RequestApplicationForUser and GetApplications' are working fine.
There is also log file 'ServicePortalWebService.log' on the Application Catalog Server in
C:\Program Files\SMS_CCM\CMApplicationCatalogSvc\Logs, where i can see that Installation call is (correctly) be done.
    To be short:
Is there anybody who can tell me how to automate (with Powershell) an USER BASED PACKAGE installation?
    With kind regards,
    Hayo Veenstra

    Thanks for your reaction.
What i want is creating shortcuts in the startmenu of a user, that initiates a SCCM software installation. We also use this method for our SCCM 2007 environment by initating advertisments. I do not want a required user deployments, because when that user
logs on on another machine (for a short time) .. all his/her software will be deployed. So i do not want to install unnescessary software .. only what a user initiates.
    Do you have other suggestions?
I'm not sure about the shortcuts.  But, as for required deployments to users installing on all machines they log onto:  Not if you have User Device Affinity running for you.  You can set a requirement in the application to only install on a user's
primary device.  Another option that we often deploy is to use App-V to deploy a virtual version of that app if the device they logged onto is not their primary.  When they log off, it goes away.  This is all done using User Device Affinity.
    This is new in 2012.

  • WinRM endless loop script/package sccm 2012

I'm trying to enable winrm in task sequence for sccm 2012 during installation of Windows 7 clients.
    winrm quickconfig -quiet -force
    or
cmd /c winrm quickconfig -quiet -force
I have tried variations of this but I always get an endless loop, doesn't matter if I do command line or a package with a bat file.
    Anyone else having this issue?

What I mean with loop, is that it keeps rerunning the same command over and over again. In task manager I see multiple cmd processes running. If I manually run the command in cmd it configures it correctly.

  • SCCM 2012 Packages - Software and apply license

    HI All,
    I think I already know the answer, but I just want to check that the package options are selected correctly as I'm a newbie when it comes to packaging;
We are trying to install Trapeze viewer (from Onstream, part of our Idox solution). The software calls for the License to be applied manually after the install (just double click the file and it applies itself, the users are able to do this). We are migrating
our estate onto Win 7 x64 and this will have to be done on 400+ machines.
    I've created a SCCM 2012 Package with two Programs; 1 to install the software from MSI file and the 2 to run the license file in hoping that when a new user of a machine logs in the Trapeze license is applied for the first time;
    1- Software -
    General
    Name: Install Trapeze
    Command line: "TrapezeDesktop_9_05.msi"
    Run: Hidden
    After Running: No Action Required
    Environment
Program can Run: Whether or not user is logged on
Run Mode: Run with Admin rights
    Allow user interaction: Unchecked
    Advanced
When program is assed to Computer: Run once for computer
    Supress Program notification: Checked
    2-License -
    General

    Hi Torsten,
license.tpz applies a license to the trapeze software, manually it is just double clicked, and then the trapeze software opens stating that the license will take affect next time the software is ran.
Is it worth me pointing it to the trapeze.exe file in the command line, such as:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Onstream Trapeze\trapeze.exe" REGLICENSE=\\server\share\Onstream Trapeze\license.tpz
on my initial testing it did work to one of my test machines, but didn't re-run the license when another user logged in and came up with a license not found message.

  • Package seems to break when distributed with SCCM 2012

    Hello.
I made a package with an old Java version and a link to the locally installed IE, that opens a special webpage.
When i install this manually with the
AppV_DeployNPublish tool on my testmachine (that is a copy of a domain computer), the package works. It opens the webpage and uses the Java in the package (checked with ProcessExplorer). I can even upgrade the java or delete it and it works.
But when we deploy it with the SCCM 2012 to a domain computer, tha package seems to break. It opens the webpage but uses the local installed Java (checked again with ProcessExplorer), that ends with the software doesn't work. We must use an old java version
to get the software to function properly!
We are using the App-V 4.6.2 version...
    Why is it like this?
    Regards,
    Peter

To properly isolate Java you need to make sure the AppData\LocalLow\Sun folder is part of your App-V package. Also adding the -noframemerging switch to the IE command line can help as sometimes it likes to latch onto the IE process already running outside
the bubble rather than starting a new one.

Hi Team; I’m having 2 issues with SCCM 2012 R2:
Issue 1: I'm having a strange issue with the default XXX00002 package - "Configuration Manager Client Package",
it will not deploy to the Secondary Site DP. The console is saying "In Progress" - below is the output from the

Issue 2: I'm trying to deploy a couple of Packages/Applications using SCCM 2012 R2 running on Win2K8 R2 with no luck, knowing that I could install the packages
on a test VM “in the DataCenter site”, but when trying to deploy the packages to production PC “in the Office Site”,
the status is packages deployment compliance stuck at 0%
    Infrastructure:
3 SCCM servers: CAS, PRI & SEC. Both CAS and PRI are in the DataCenter site, and SEC is in the Office site. The office site has several IP subnets.
Boundaries are configured through Forest Discovery “IP Ranges and AD Sites” since that the AD site should contain all the IP subnets that the AD site contains, Boundaries groups are also configured and a site reference
server is configured for each group respectively.
A OU based Collection has been configured that contains 13 PC "the collection contains the PCs that the packages should be installed.
Packages/Applications are configured correctly since that I could successfully deploy the packages to the test VM which is on the same subnet as the CAS and the PRI servers "the DataCenter subnet". The issue
is that I can't deploy the packages to production PCs in the Office subnet!
Firewall rules are configured and applied via GP, and I even turned Windows Firewall off, and still nothing! I tried to manually initiate Computer Policy download via the SCCM GUI and via a script, still no luck!
I tried configuring IP Subnet Boundaries, still no luck!!

  • SCCM 2012 R2: automatic uninstall App-V 5 packages

    Hi,
We are using App-V 5.0 SP3 for computers (in test phase) as well as Terminal Servers (in production, App-V 4.6 and 5.0 on the same W2K8R2 servers). We were thinking about using a App-V management server since SCCM integrated App-V has downsides, most important
one is no automatic uninstall. Then there is this comparison which shows that integrating in SCCM has much more options:
    http://virtualvibes.co.uk/app-v-management-server-or-configuration-manager-2012-a-feature-comparison
So we're back at going for "SCCM App-V integrated" and the issue that uninstall doesn't happen automatically. Also there is this post which tells us "With App-V 5.0 SP2, App-V packages that are being used cannot be uninstalled."
    http://henkhoogendoorn.blogspot.be/2013/07/configmgr-2012-sp1-with-app-v-50.html
So I'm still looking for the best approach to:
*deploy App-V 5.0 packages to terminal servers via SCCM 2012 (user targetted): an uninstall won't happen for one user if another user has it in use? Then how can we enforce an uninstall/remove an application nicely?
*deploy App-V 5.0 packages to W7 computers via SCCM 2012 (first phase, later we will deploy to users on the computers): deploy an App-V package to  certain collection with computers, deploy an uninstall to "all computers" so that if
computerobject isn't member of the collection, it will uninstall? Won't every user then receive loads of uninstalls triggered (even not visible in the console)?
Sound all quite messy for me.
    Please advise.
    J.
    Jan Hoedt

    >So the answer to your first question, yes, the installation will happen even though there's another user
My question was "an UNinstall won't happen for one user if another user has it in use? Then how can we enforce an uninstall/remove an application nicely?"
What I meant: an uninstall should remove the App-v package for all users (uninstalling for 1 user is not the goal) but it won't as long it 's in use. That means we need to force a removal somehow.
    >For the second one, I'd skip the first phase
That's no option, so my question stays
"deploy an App-V package to  certain collection with computers, deploy an uninstall to "all computers" so that if computerobject isn't member of the collection, it will uninstall? Won't every user/computer then receive loads of uninstalls
triggered (even not visible in the console)?"
    Jan Hoedt
If you want to remove the application from all users, just add all users to the collection and deploy the application as uninstall, it will be removed from every single user when the policies are applied.
For the second question, create a collection that has all the computers that you want to have the application installed and deploy the installation of the application to that collection. Then create another collection that has all the computers as member,
BUT exclude the collection you created for installation. Now all the computers that don't belong to the install collection, will have uninstall deployed against them.

  • Software Distribution & Patching Design Issues - Migration of Packages SCCM 2007 to Application or Conventional Packages in SCCM 2012

    Hi All
I am starting in discussion to deep root on Software Distribution & Patching model in large environments from SCCM 2007 migrating to SCCM 2012.
Below are certain assertions i am putting forward for your expert views or you may in a similar situation
1- I have migrated the packages from SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012 as conventional methods, now i am deploying them [ not migrated the advertisements and collections ], so while deploying i am facing a peculiar situation that the deployment when created is of the
name "<<Package name>>(program)". I am not able to rename the deployment for the conventional packages. is there a way out to that??
2- Will the collection queries work the same in SCCM 2012 as was in SCCM 2007??
3- In SCCM 2012 Primary site there is default role called Site System role in that there is tab for proxy settings. I have observed that if do not check the proxy tab there and punch in proxy IP and port then after some time in the WSUS server the update
source and proxy server tab the proxy option gets unchecked and hence the sync in software update point status appears failed. Is that anyone else also has observed !!!!!
