IS SQL EXPRESS IS FREE TO USE

Is SQL Express Edition is free to use in a Corporate Organization as their back end DataBase Server.

Yes. However, you may soon run into its limitations - SQL 2014 Express, for example supports only 1GB of RAM, a max of 1 socket and a max DB size of 10GB: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc645993.aspx

  • SQL Expressions in RAD -Getting error during runtime while generating rpt

    Hi
    We have just migrated from WSAD to RAD Version: 7.0.0.7.
    The issue is: I am getting the error at the runtime when I am trying to use the SQL expression in my one of the report. The SQL Expression feature is not supported by this version of RAD. I checked the Help contents. It says
    Field Objects: SQL expression fields
    This report contains SQL Expression fields. These fields are not visible in this version of the Crystal Reports designer, but they will be evaluated by the system when the report is executed. New SQL Expression fields cannot be created by the designer. SQL Expression fields will remain in the .rpt file after saving and can be edited by other Crystal Reports designers
    To me it seems you can use the 'SQL Expressions' in the report using some Crystal Reports designers and at the runtime it will be evaluated. So I edited my report with some Crystal Reports Designer and tested it on WSAD. It worked fine. Now since we have migrated to RAD, this is an issue since I am getting the following error:

  • How to pass a parameter into a sql expression?

    How to pass a report parameter into a sql expression?

    Hi Donald,
        The functionality of using a parameter in a function is only available in the formula editor and not in SQL Expression. Parameters cannot be passed to the SQL Expression, the main purpose of the SQL Expression is to make use of Database functions to make calculations at the database level but the current functionality of the product only allows you to use Database fields.
    There is an article that talks on SQL Expressions and can be useful http://technicalsupport.businessobjects.com/KanisaSupportSite/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=c2016184&sliceId=&dialogID=6018612&stateId=1%200%206020316

  • SQL expression not working, newbie. Malformed?

    Hi, I'm a newbie to CR. I've got a report that works which I want to add a SQL expression field to that returns the text from a column in one table when another column in that table is equal to the string result of concatenating the values of two columns from a different table.
    This is my SQL expression. I'm using CR XI R2.
    SELECT
        "Windows_Notes"."NOTES_61"
    WHERE
        ("Windows_Notes"."KEY_61" = '"RMA_Detail"."RMANUM_52" + "RMA_Detail"."RMALIN_52"')
        AND ("Windows_Notes"."LINE_61" = '0000')
    There are actually two WHERE clauses as you can see above. Anyway, this isn't returning any data even though I can see in SQL Server Management Studio that the data is there. Even if I get rid of the concatenation and use a static value that I know should work (like '8000002501'), I get no results. As soon as I insert this SQL expression field into the report, the whole page is just blank. If I remove it again, everything shows up like before.
    Any hints or solutions? I just made my first report last night, so this may be a stupid question.
    Thank you.

    Thanks to you both for the performance tips. I got it working just before you guys answered with this line:
    {Windows_Notes.KEY_61} = {RMA_Detail.RMANUM_52}+{RMA_Detail.RMALIN_52} and {Windows_Notes.LINE_61} = '0000'
    And now I've run into yet another fun problem. This one may be more difficult to tackle. Sometimes there will be no rows returned from that query. If there is a result I am including a string in the report from Windows_Notes.NOTES_61 which just contains optional notes for RMA numbers in our company. (like a short description of the customer's problem)
    Sometimes there are no notes entered. When this is the case, the report is no longer showing those RMAs, heh. How can I get it to just display nothing in the notes column but still show the rest of the fields when that query returns no rows?
    I tried removing the previous code from the record selection forumula, then creating a formula field with the following:
    if ({Windows_Notes.KEY_61} = {RMA_Detail.RMANUM_52}+{RMA_Detail.RMALIN_52} and {Windows_Notes.LINE_61} = '0000') then (
        {Windows_Notes.NOTES_61}
    And I insterted that formula field onto the report instead of the Windows_Notes.NOTES_61 database column directly. It didn't work. I'm not clever enough after one day's experience with Crystal Reports...

    Aren't these rules equivalent to "Monday this week, where Monday is the first day of the week"? In which case the PL/SQL Expression you require is:
    trunc(sysdate, 'iw')For example:

  • Error using presentation variable in SQL Expression

    Hi all,
    I'm receiving an error - '...Error getting drill information...' due to a presentation variable being used in a SQL Expression. It probably has something to do with a data type issue. I've narrowed the error to the use of the presentation variable.
    I'm setting a presentation variable, pres_mth_nme_to, from a dashboard prompt. The prompt contains a month name.
    I'm using the presentation variable as part of a SQL Expression in a filter. The gist of the SQL Expression is to use the
    presentation variable in a CASE and set a value accordingly. For example:
    Column: Month Sort Value
    Operator: Between
    Value: *10*
    SQL Expression: *Case  @{pres_mth_nme_to}{some default} WHEN 'NOV' THEN '10' WHEN 'DEC' THEN '11' WHEN 'JAN' THEN '12' WHEN 'FEB' THEN '13' WHEN...END*
    The month name is character. If I were to hard code this, I don't recieve the error. For example:
    CASE 'SEP' WHEN 'NOV' THEN '10' WHEN 'DEC' ...END
    There something going on with the data type from the prompt and it being used in the comparison. If I use a CAST, the problem still exists.
    CASE CAST(@{pres_mth_nme_to} as char(3)) WHEN 'NOV' THEN ... END
    If I'm in Answers, the problem doesn't exist, I'm assuming because of the default values. If I'm on the dashboard, it does exist, I'm assuming because of recieving the prompt value.
    I don't know what I'm missing. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    DJ,
    if the formula presented by you is exactly true, i mean it was not fabricated to present as an example in the forum, you should include the presentation variable in single quotes.
    i.e. your formula must look somthing like
    Case '@{pres_mth_nme_to}{some default}' WHEN 'NOV' THEN '10' WHEN 'DEC' THEN '11' WHEN 'JAN' THEN '12' WHEN 'FEB' THEN '13' WHEN...END
    let me know if it did solve the issue...

  • Error using Filter with SQL Expression

    Hey all -
    New to Oracle BI, and getting a problem with Filters that use SQL Expressions.
    The column I'm filtering on is a 4 digit year, expressed as a VARCHAR2(4 byte) in the physical database. My SQL Expression in the filter is:
    Column: CAL YEAR 4 DIGIT
    Operator: Is equal to/in
    SQL Expression: TO_CHAR(ADD_MONTHS(SYSDATE, -24), 'YYYY'))
    when I click on the "Results" Tab I get the following error message:
    Error Codes: YQCO4T56:OPR4ONWY:U9IM8TAC:OI2DL65P
    Odbc driver returned an error (SQLExecDirectW).
    State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 27002] Near <(>: Syntax error [nQSError: 26012] . (HY000)
    I've isolated the issue to the expression above. If I put in a literal value and supply a four digit year like below it works:
    Column: CAL YEAR 4 DIGIT
    Operator: Is equal to/in
    SQL Expression: *2008*
    Any ideas on what's causing my problem?
    Thanks!
    Mac

    macearl wrote:
    SQL View does not display unless data is returned by the query. Is that normal?
    Also, none of these options shows the literal result of the expression we built, i.e.:
    expression: CAST(YEAR(TIMESTAMPADD(SQL_TSI_MONTH, -24, CURRENT_DATE)) as CHAR)
    result: *2008*
    Having the ability to test expressions and see their results would be very helpful in debugging. If anyone knows how to do that please share!
    Thanks!
    MacOk, Probably shoud have figured this out before, but in response to my own question, the way to view the result of an expression is to add the expression as a column and include it in the Table Presentation.

  • Using sql expression in filter

    Hi Experts,
    I have a question using 'sql expression' in filters in answers. Let's say i have a date filter and i would like the value for that date as max(tablename.colname). Please tell me the syntax for passing this.
    One more question is i have a date prompt the data will be refreshed weekly let's say the data refreshed like this *08/1/11 ,08/8/11 and 08/15/11* . Now if i select 08/08/11 it will show the data
    populated on *08/08/11* which is ok but if i select *08/09/11 to 08/14/11* it show only *08/08/11* data. Same way if select *08/16/11 or 09/16/11* it should show the last refreshed data which is *08/15/11*
    Thanks in Advance.
    chak

    Ok, so you want the report to be restricted as of last refresh date when your selects a date in prompt which is beyond/greater than the last refresh date.
    One way of doing this can be as below:
    - Capture the last refresh date in a repository variable. So this variable will always hold a value for last refresh date.
    - In prompts, capture the date selected by user in a presentation variable and apply the below statement in the Advanced SQL of the report.
    DateColumn = case when Timestamp '@{pvar}{2011-01-01 00:00:00}' <= valueof("lastRefDate") then timestamp '@{pvar}{2011-01-01 00:00:00}' else valueof("lastRefDate") end
    Here pvar is your presentation var and lastRefDate is your rep variable holding the last refresh date. What this statement would do is if user selects a date which is less that equal to last refresh date, then report will be filtered as of that date. Else, the report will be filtered by value of the Last Refresh date.
    Thanks

  • Entity Object (EO) issue using "Derived from SQL Expression" funtionality

    I am using JDeveloper 11.1.1.6
    In my use case I am trying to get my EO to return results from a query such as the following:
                   SELECT table1.my_id,table1.my_des,
                   count(table2.store_num) as storeCount
                   FROM table1
                   LEFT JOIN table2
                   ON table1.my_id = table2.my_id
                   group by table1.my_id,table1.my_des
    I have chosen to follow the path described in the following URL:
    http://www.exploreoracle.com/2010/09/07/using-transient-attribute-with-derived-from-sql-expression-in-jdeveloper-11g/
    To begin with, I created my EO's and VO's by using the "Business Components from Tables" wizard. This created EO and VO's for my 2 tables based on the DB schema.
    I added the VO's to an app module and tested both VO's. I was able to navigate both VO's.
    I then crreated a new attribute for the table1 EO. Please note that table1 does include 7 fields prior to this field therefore this becomes the 8th field. That is important once you get to the exception being thrown. The XML is as follows
              <Attribute
              Name="StoreCount"
              IsUpdateable="false"
              IsQueriable="false"
              IsPersistent="false"
              Precision="5"
              Scale="0"
              ColumnName="STORECOUNT"
              SQLType="NUMERIC"
              Type="oracle.jbo.domain.Number"
              ColumnType="NUMBER"
              Expression="(select coalesce(count(*),0) as StoreCount from table2 where my_id = table1.my_id)">
              <Properties>
              <SchemaBasedProperties>
                   <LABEL
                   ResId="STORE_COUNT"/>
              </SchemaBasedProperties>
              </Properties>
              </Attribute>
    I then tested the VO's again in the app module and everything continues to work fine.
    I then added the new attribute to the VO by doing "Add Attribute from Entity".
    I then tested the VO for Table1 and now get the following error. Could you please advise me as to what I might be doing wrong.

    The Is Updatable attribute on the EO is false which I assume is the same as never. Here is the current config for it:
    <Attribute
    Name="StoreCount"
    IsUpdateable="false"
    IsQueriable="false"
    IsPersistent="false"
    Precision="5"
    Scale="0"
    ColumnName="STORECOUNT"
    SQLType="NUMERIC"
    Type="oracle.jbo.domain.Number"
    ColumnType="NUMBER"
    Expression="(select coalesce(count(*),0) as StoreCount from table2 where my_id = table1.my_id)">
    <Properties>
    <SchemaBasedProperties>
    <LABEL
    ResId="STORE_COUNT"/>
    </SchemaBasedProperties>
    </Properties>
    </Attribute>
    This attribute is in the same order in the VO and it is in the EO. The VO code is as follows:
    <ViewAttribute
    Name="StoreCount"
    IsUpdateable="false"
    IsQueriable="false"
    IsPersistent="false"
    PrecisionRule="true"
    EntityAttrName="StoreCount"
    EntityUsage="MyTable2EO"/>
    The VORowImpl has the attributes in the same order as well.
    Do you have any additional suggestions.

  • Syntax Error when using SQL Expression

    Morning all,
    When I try to type any SQL Expression within Crystal I am getting syntax errors, even when I type only SELECT {field name} FROM {table name}.
    Here is the query I did which gave me the following error:
    Query
    SELECT  order_progress . date_created
    FROM order_progress
    WHERE  order_progress . order_no = order_header . order_no
    AND  order_progress . order_status =77
    ORDER BY  order_progress . date_created DESC
    Error
    Error in compiliing SQL Expression
    Database connector Error: 'HY000[Informix] [Informix ODBC Driver]General Error. Syntax Error[Database Vendor Code-11060]'.
    Now this means, 1: I am getting a connection error with my db, for no apperent reason. 2: my syntax is not approved?!
    Can someone explain why is this happening and how to resolve this?
    many thanks
    Kind Regards

    Morning Kyle,
    Thanks for the informative answer, I have found out the formula which counts number of days however, I am not sure what you meant by the following:
    >
    Kyle McAdam wrote:
    > create a formula that does the datediff....this will be a group.
    Done this, it counts the working days as in weekdays and takes bank holidays out as well
    here is the formula:
    WhileReadingRecords;
    //{order_progress.order_status}= 77;
    //{order_header.order_status}>=77;
    Local DateVar Start := {order_header.date_entered};   // Starting Date
    Local DateVar End := {order_header.act_despatch};  // Ending Date
    Local NumberVar Weeks;
    Local NumberVar Days;
    Local Numbervar Hol;
    DateVar Array Holidays;
    Weeks:= (Truncate (End - dayofWeek(End) + 1
    - (Start - dayofWeek(Start) + 1)) /7 ) * 5;
    Days := DayOfWeek(End) - DayOfWeek(Start) + 1 +
    (if DayOfWeek(Start) = 1 then -1 else 0)  +
    (if DayOfWeek(End) = 7 then -1 else 0);
    Local NumberVar i;
    For i := 1 to Count (Holidays)
    do (if DayOfWeek ( Holidays<i>) in 2 to 6 and
      Holidays<i> in start to end then Hol:=Hol+1 );
    Weeks + Days - Hol;
    You will then have a formula field that is evaluated to 1, if the status is 77.
    you mean second formula? How I used,
    If Order_header.Order_Status=77 then
    1
    else
    2;
    however this doesn't seem to be working.
    > Now, sum that formula in each group footer. Suppress the detail lines...
    which formula to sum up?
    > **Don't use a cross tab with this solution. For a cross tab, you would have to calculate the totals in a different manner.
    so far I used Cross tab and it is showing the right days, however not showing the correct jobs per day.
    You might be right there that it calculates the totals differently, additionally how am I suppose to get the right Percentage if using the Cross tab. The percentage should be, count of number of jobs % Total jobs.
    hence:
    {#NumofJobs} % {#Total_Jobs}
    however, when I create this formula it does not let me add that into the cross tab.
    I also need to put a subreport in my report, can I use Crosstab to contain a link to my subreport?
    Many thanks
    Kind Regards

  • Extract Data Using SQL Expression

    Hello, I've created a staging table and just realized that I need some new extra fields.
    Should I create them in the stage or in the target table?
    I want to use the SQL expression COUNT so to fill these new fields with edited source data,
    but don't know exactly how to do it. I am a bit amateur.
    Thank you.

    I' ve just realized that I am reading your book! Oracle Warehouse Builder 11gR2: Getting Started 2011.
    What If I need the rest of the fields not to be changed? Fields like Name or whatever.I can't figure it out. Thanks again.
    For example, I have these two fields Name and Date and I want to use the count expression through the aggregation operator for the Date field and create a new field Quantity to store the reaults. But I need the field Name to remain intact.
    How can I manage this? Thank you.

  • Using SQL view From SQL Express in Flex

    Hello All ,  i am new at Flex and yet searching for a basic answere to even more basic question...
    i am currently looking for a way o extract and import SQL views from my SQL Express database ( on my local host) and present it with RIA on desktop, grpahs Charts etc.
    my question is, which way is the best to do so ?
    need i to use Coldfusion For the Data ?  and then Flex3 For the design ( i.e Graphs)?
    or maybe using another ODBC program for XML file and then Connect it as Data Resource into the flex3 project
    as you must see , i am a bit confused....
    thanks in advance

    Hi,
             If you go for AIR you can directly connect to Database and you can get the data and can be shown graphically ,
             But if you Go for Webapplication(Flex ) then definately u should use some backend like CFC,PHP,JAVA,.Net............ in order to connect to DB and use Remote Objects/HttpService and show the Result Graphically..............

  • How do I Send in a value to the SQL Query Expression's variable created using Declare in Power Query

    I have gone through the other posts where in a parameter is sent to query created by power query but my ask is a bit different.
    I am using a sql query to retrieve data using Power query which has 2 variables declared in the DECLARE section in the query.
    Ex:
    declare @Name varchar(1000)
    SET @Name= 'Alpha'
    declare @location nvarchar(1000)
    SET @location= 'Bravo'
    Select * from Infotable where Name = @Name and location = @location.
    Now in the following query I would want to send in the values for  the declared variables using a table in my worksheet. I have followed the stuff present in the following post
    http://blog.oraylis.de/2013/05/using-dynamic-parameter-values-in-power-query-queries/
    but when using the value name (let Name_parameter = Excel.Currentworkbook(), Name_Value = Name_Parameter [0][value]) in the Advance Editor as mentioned in the above post I am being thrown an error stating  Name_Value column doesn't exist.
    I am having a tough time figuring out what the problem could be..

  • Using SQL Express with Legacy PB

    I have inherited a legacy system written in PowerBuilder which connects to an SQL Anywhere 5.5 database via ODBC. The Sybase drivers are not 64-Bit compatible so this system is throwing errors and there are no updated drivers available.  I do not currently
    have the budget to update the database to a current version of SQL Anywhere (which required /seat license) and I'm under the gun to get the system working on a 64-Bit PC.
    Advice, please!  Is MS SQL Express a good option?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
    Microsoft has created the following technical document for migrating from Sybase Anywhere (ASA) to SQL Server 2008:
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/7/C/2/7C20B070-BFF8-44B4-BD7D-1B03DF50F924/MigrateSybaseASAtoSQLServer2008.docx
    Microsoft offers the SSMA for Sybase Tool to migrate from Sybase ASE to SQL Server too, but it is not clear to me it supports Sybase
    Anywhere (ASA). The following third party tool seems to offer migrating ASA objects and data to SQL Server.
    http://www.ispirer.com/products/sybase-to-sql-server-migration
    However, I don’t have any suggestions for you about the PowerBuilder application.
    Hope this helps.

  • SQL Expression for date conversion - version XI

    I am trying to convert a number field to a date field in order to use it in a date parameter in Infoview. The database field is in a 15 digit DTM format but is stored as a number. There is also a zero stored in the database field. When I try to create the date SQL Expression I get this error: Error in compiling SQL Expression: Failed to retrieve data from the database. Details: ORA-01840: input value not long enough for date format. How can I get the SQL Expression to not look at the zero? I tried putting a statement in my Record Selection to not pull any zero fields but that doesn't work. Any ideas? Thanks! Kelley

    Hi Kelly,
    It's been a while since I used Info View, so if it's about registering, etc. I won't know the
    answer.
    Did you link it ?  Have you tested that it should even return data ?
    Check the filtering, etc in a query builder to make sure.
    Have you tested the sub report by running it by itself ? (just add a value to the parameter
    field request)
    Do you have suppression formulas in the sub report ?
    Is the section of the main report that is holding the sub report
    free of "suppresion" formulas ?
