Is the i7 13" Macbook Air capable of playing some basic games?

I'm looking into possibly grabbing a 13" Macbook Air with the i7 1.7Ghz processort and was wondering if it's capable of playing some basic games that are out in the Mac App Store such as Angry Birds, N.O.V.A. 2, or even Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas? Also I tend to use Vuze and sometimes Handbrake, would the high end 13" Macbbok Air be capable of doing all this for me?

Capable? Yes indeed it is. However, if the game or application is CPU or GPU intensive, then you can expect longer waits for completion of tasks. It's not so much noticeable on rudimentary games, but it really has an effect on detailed fluid motion in games that rely on such.
Handbrake tasks will just take longer to complete, it won't stop it.
I use my MBA's for medium intensity gaming without any complaints. But really, you should refer to the system requirements on each, on a case by case basis.

  • Should I upgrade to the i7 processor on the 2012 11" Macbook Air?

I'm planning to get a new Macbook friday or so, and I'm curious to whether or not I should upgrade to the i7 processor in the 2012 11" Macbook Air. I do a lot of photoshopping and occasionally playing Sims 3, but aside from that it's just usual typing and social networking type stuff. Is upgrading to the i7 worth it and will I notice a difference? Or should I just go for upgrading the RAM to 8GB instead of the 4GB it comes with? I also am for sure getting the 256GB upgrade, as well as a case and external disc drive. Whatever the lowest pricing possible would be preferable to get what works best for me.
    Thanks!

Difference between i5 1.7 and i7 2.0 definitely won't give you extra year or two... In fact in everyday work it remains unnoticed.
Unless while encoding video for 5 minutes, some 15 seconds is going to make a difference to you - I am not sure it's worth the money (only you can decide that..).
RAM. RAM. RAM is where you really should spend money. Also SSD, depends on your needs, you may run out of space quite quickly. These are elements that will give you additional year or two, and you can't* upgrade them in the future.
*) SSD technicaly can be upgraded, but it's much more difficult and requires you to purchase 3rd party SSD modules, and is considered non-upgradable by Apple.

  • Is the current 13" MacBook Air powerful enough to run 2D autocad in bootcamp smoothly? If so, how will it handle 3d rendering software such as Rhino.

My girlfriend has recently purchased the new 13" Macbook Air (3rd gen Intel processor). It is the base model (ie. 1.8GHz i5 processor, 4GB RAM, etc).
I have checked on the autodesk website for their Windows 64-bit autocad system requirements and they all seem to be met, even to the recommended levels. However we havent actually tried running it because we havent gotten a copy of Windows on the machine yet. Also, she has a rendering software called Rhino, which ran fairly smoothly on my pc (its about 2 years old but was top of the line then), but I feel we are not up to par on the system requirement "OpenGL graphic card recommended".
If anyone could offer some guidance as to weather we should keep the MacBook Air it would be appreciated. I think the alternative would be to buy a Windows laptop because of cost, which wouldn't be nearly as exciting.

It's not a hard core gaming rig, but it plays all the FPS games I like, quite well. It handles hi-def video, just fine. I use it for Photoshop, and it is quite fast. For web browsing, it has no equal. The 2010 maxed out 11" would do it all, except for some hi-def video (1080P), which it would stutter. But my new 2011 maxed 13", is perfect for video (1080P=no problem).
I really don't think a MBP will give you as much, on a daily basis. It (the MBP) has only a few advantages, and except for the built in optical drive (which you can still go external, if need be), none of the advantages you will miss even slightly.
I think the MBP would only serve me, if it spent most of the time deskbound, but I would still need an SSD. Once you have had an SSD, you can't go back. Then, you would have a really pricey MBP.

  • How to decrease the storage in macbook air

how to decrease the storage in macbook air ?

you mean decrease all the files filling your Air?
See here for answer about the OTHER which is taking up space:
    http://pondini.org/TM/30.html
    and here:
    http://pondini.org/OSX/DiskSpace.html
See Kappys excellent note on the rest of “other” files taking up your space:
What is "Other" and What Can I Do About It?
In the case of a Macbook Air or Macbook Pro Retina with ‘limited’ storage on the SSD, this distinction becomes more important in that in an ever rapidly increasing file-size world, you keep vital large media files, pics, video, PDF collections, music off your SSD and archived on external storage, for sake of the necessary room for your system to have free space to operate, store future applications and general workspace.  You should never be put in the position of considering “deleting things” on your macbook SSD in order to ‘make space’.
Professionals who create and import very large amounts of data have almost no change in the available space on their computers internal HD because they are constantly archiving data to arrays of external or networked HD.
Or in the case of the consumer this means you keep folders for large imported or created data and you ritually offload and archive this data for safekeeping, not only to safeguard the data in case your macbook has a HD crash, or gets stolen, but importantly in keeping the ‘breathing room’ open for your computer to operate, expand, create files, add applications, for your APPS to create temp files, and for general operation.

  • Cant open doc files from the server on MacBook Air after upgrading to Maverick

Cant open doc files from the server on MacBook Air after upgrading to Maverick, I can only open up docx file. Thank you!

Thanks for the suggestion! I don't use Phantasm or VectorScribe (or any Astute Graphics plugins for that matter). I do, however, have a Wacom tablet and have a few plugins that concern using Blurb Book Creator as well as LiveSurface Context.
I did the very unfortunate and foolish act of upgrading to Maverick without a backup, so postponing isn't an option for me.
I geuss my question at this point would be, would it be worthwhile to wipe all the adobe products from my harddrive and re-install them? Or would that be a useless endeavor.
I don't have an external hard-drive so backing up and re-installing the entire OS would be a bit much. Any suggestions?

  • Installing the uTorrent in MacBook Air ``Error``

Guys, I want to install the uTorrent in MacBook air, I just off/on but it did not work for me. I just used the VPN`s too also did not get anything. I want this issue resolved permanently please

Yes, anything that includes torrent in the offer.   In particular Bit-torrent.   Quite often this will be associated with Softonic and Cnet, both of whom are known for injecting malware into your system.   Avoid them both for anything.

  • Is the 128GB SSD of the 2015 11'' MacBook Air slow?

I have been watching reviews about the 128GB SSD that the new 11'' MacBook Air features and they say that it's pretty slow compared to the 256GB SSD. What is your experience? Have you seen a real difference between these two hard drives?

Slow is relative... Is it slower than the new 256GB SSD? Yes. The 256GB SSD is a completely different (and much newer) device that's substantially faster. In reality, unless you're doing a lot of file intensive work, you probably won't notice a lot of difference.

  • Macbook Air won't play a simple iphone movie ???

Is it true ?  Is it possible ?  That the latest, greatest macbook air running the latest greatest OSX Lion will not play, preview or in any way let you view a moive sent from an iphone 4s ?    IN other words a regular .mov file no longer plays ?   I have searched high and low,  installed perian, flip for mac, quicktime 7.66  quicktime pro and still nothing ?

Yes,  a.mov file no longer plays from iPhoto. I'm on a MacBook Pro running 10.5.8. This just happened tonight. I have posted in another forum, also. The file opens in Quicktime if I access it from the finder and not iPhoto. I have not updated iPhoto since the last time it worked  a few weeks ago.
