Is the Macbook Air 2013 13.3" 1.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 2GB of Memory good for photography?
I am a photographer and do alot of editing and uploading of images to my current laptop but is very old and un reliable. will this laptop be ok for me? As far as graphics go will i be able to see the correct colors and smoothness?
I'd want more memory if I was doing image adjusting/editing. MPB 8GB RAM 2.6GHz processor Retina display would be my choice. Also the largest SSD available - image files can take up a lot of space. You'll still want external drives for storage and backup.

They claim that an Interl iMac with Core 2 Duo is all that is needed, as long as it has OS 10.6.8 installed. They say you don`t need the "Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor"
But I wonder about the RAM speed, the iMac 2.33Ghz uses DDR2 SDRAM, which I believe is rated at 667Mhz. Lion maybe installed but it might be problems running smoothly or not?
Did some quick checking and the iMacs apple is selling this year use 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM.
The only thing to do is to make sure you have a good back-up, Install your RAM and install Snow Leo, then wait a couple of hours and install Lion.

thanksYes. You should be fine with Snow Leopard, but Lion requires a minimum of 2 GBs of RAM. If you upgrade to Lion I would first upgrade your RAM to at least 4 GBs if your model supports it. Also, see:
How to Install OS X Updates Successfully
A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your current OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
C. Important: Please read before installing:
If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before installing the update unless you will boot from this drive and install the update on it. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update. While the installation is in progress do not use the computer.
D. To upgrade:
Purchase the Snow Leopard Retail DVD.
Boot From The OS X Installer Disc:
Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
Restart the computer.
Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo appears.
Wait for installer to finish loading.
E. If updating:
Download and install update(s)
Use Software Update, or
Download standalone updater(s). -

Can Macbook 4,1 (early 2008) 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo be upgraded to Mountain Lion?
I just upgraded to 4GB of memory after reading somewhere that the Macbook Model Identifier "4,1" can be upgraded to Mountain Lion. I was surprised to read under 'how to upgrade to Mountain Lion' that Macbook's (Late 2008) are upgradable. Aside from this upgrade being less expensive than buying a new Mac, my current Macbook runs perfectly after five years, or I wouldn't be considering an upgrade to the OS. I've been told that Snow Leopard is the last truly solid OS from Apple, and I just got an iPhone 5 that would be more compatible with Mountain Lion. Final note, the site that stated "4,1" is upgradable also stated that while Apple states maximum memory is 4GB, that in fact it can be maxed out at 6GB. Optimistic until advised otherwise.

OS X Mountain Lion requires a Late 2008 Aluminum or Early 2009 MacBook or later, so you can't install Mountain Lion in your Mac. Read > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs
It doesn't mind that your computer is useless, because Snow Leopard is still supported and Apple updates Snow Leopard, so if you are happy with Snow Leopard, continue using that version. A lot of people say that Lion doesn't work properly with old computers, but Mountain Lion fixed most of its issues. Apart from that, the iPhone 5 is compatible with Snow Leopard in the same way as with Mountain Lion, so don't worry about that -

depending upon what you use your Late 2008 Aluminum MacBook for, you could increase your RAM from 2 GB to 4 GB or 8 GB; you could replace its hard disk drive with a SSD; and/or you could examine what software is currently in regular use, to see if any of those apps is contributing to the slowdown. If you haven’t done so already, you could download and install EtreCheck, and include the output from running EtreCheck in your reply, to see if anything there stands out as being particularly CPU- or RAM-intensive. -

I'll explain the numbering system for you.
With the operating systems numbering format it works as this: for example with 10.5.8, the first number is redundant because they are all 10 since 2001. This is the X in OS X
The second number is the upgrade version, which have cat names attached to them. 10.5 is Leopard. Each of these upgrade names must be purchased. If you want 10.6 (Snow Leopard) you need to buy it,
The last number is the update version, which is free, but requires the upgrade before you can install it.
So, you currently have Mac OS X 10.5.8 and you ask how to upgrade to Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, and I have given you the link of how buy it.

my Macbook Pro (OSX 10.6.7 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) has started misbehaving on me. When I'm working, the cursor will start spontaneously moving to the in a straight line, and randomly right clicking on things.
If I close the computer and open it back up, it sometimes stops for a little while, then will spontaneously start again. Any help would be truly appreciated. Thanks!See this knowledge base article.
