Is the SQL * Plus Worksheet included in the Oracle 10g Express Edition?

Hello All,
I need to install Oracle 10g for a SQL class that I will be taking this year. I will be installing it in my laptop (Pentium 4, 1GB RAM). I was told by the Professor that I needed to have the SQL*Plus Worksheet. I would like to know which version of Oracle do I need to install, and If it includes the SQL*Plus Worksheet.
This is my first time working & installing Oracle, so I would appreciate if anyone could guide me thru this process.
Thanks a lot,
Ed

No, it is not included.
However, the same functionality, and more, is in Oracle SQL Developer - also available free and download-able from the same area as Oracle Express Edition.
Ask your prof why he want Worksheet. If it's only for the ability to scroll and correct previous SQL (eg: easier time correcting mistakes), and loading scripts, ask if SQL Developer would be allowed. It's much superior and allows you to use XE, which will not sink your laptop like the EE version will.

    I have installed enterprise manager 10g and also express edition 10g .But after installing the enterprise manager 10g and trying to access the url http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex .The xdb username and password is prompted.I deleted the entry in init.ora for the xdb parameter to avoid the userid prompt but still the xdb login credentials are prompted.How can I avoid this message in order to access the 10g express edition home page.

    It appears you've got two things listening on port 8080, or more accurately two things that want to listen on port 8080. The winner is probably the Enterprise Manager. The easiest way to check this would be to connect as SYSDBA and run the following to reset the 10gXE XDB listener port:
    EXEC dbms_xdb.sethttpport(8181);
    Then, attempt to reconnect to the 10gXE on the new port. I suspect a new attempt to connect at the old port 8080 will return the same message. If it doesn't fix it, you should probably inspect the configuration file for XDB. You can do that by running the following:
    SET LONG 10000
    SET PAGESIZE 9999
    SELECT dbms_xdb.cfg_get() FROM dual;
    You'll find the template for configuration in the $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/xml directory. Hope this helps.

    How Can I do to log in using SQL*Plus into Oracle 10g?
    My Schema is: Banco.Global
    My Password is: 111111
    I need to write SET SERVEROUTPUT ON to get answer?
    I opened the Prompt, but i don't know to log in.
    Thanks and my english is not as well as you.

    If i write:
    SQL>connect "Banco.Global"/111111
    a error message is raised: Invalid username/password; logon denied
    but if I log in into Home Page with the same Username and Password, I get to log in.
    There is difference to connect SQL*Plus and the connect with Home Page the Oracle?

    Set the environment variable ORACLE_HOME to point to the XE database.

  • I am using the Oracle 10g express edition

    Is it possible to connect using a Java program? If so, what connect string should I be using?

    Hi,
    This is with reference to connecting to Oracle Database XE using a java-based program (for example NetBeans).
    Step 1: Add a CLASSPATH
    /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/client/jdbc/libs/
    Step 2: Add ojdbc14.jar to the directory of your project.
    Step 3: Import Java SQL and Oracle JDBC Driver.
    import java.sql.*;
    import oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource;
    Step 4: Create an OracleDataSource using your username and password. The connection string should look similar to the below mentioned.
    public Connection getConnection()
    throws ClassNotFoundException, SQLException {
    OracleDataSource myds = new OracleDataSource();
    myds.setUser("username");
    myds.setPassword("pasword");
    myds.setURL("jdbc:oracle:thin:@your.server:1521/xe");
    Connection conn = myds.getConnection();
    return conn;
    Step 5: Create a sample data table. The set of statements should look similar to the below mentioned.
    public void createTable(Connection conn) throws SQLException {
    Statement stmt = null;
    String query;
    try {
    query = "CREATE TABLE tutorials title VARCHAR2(70), author VARCHAR2(40),
    ref_number NUMBER(7,0) CONTRAINT pk_tutorials PRIMARY KEY,
    submit_date DATE DEFAULT SYSDATE";
    stmt = conn.createStatement();
    stmt.executeUpdate(query);
    finally {
    if(stmt != null){
    stmt.close();
    Should this solve your problem, kindly mark the thread as answered.

    Naveed.

  • Using variables in SQL Plus Worksheet

    I'm new to Oracle. I've developed in MS SQL for some time. I'm trying to debug a query we're using in an application. I paste it into SQL Plus Worksheet and get the message:

  • SQL*Plus Worksheet formating

    I have Oracle Client 8.1.7 installed in my computer, and I can't
    seem to have the desired output format with the SQL*Plus
    worksheet.
    I have a database where the tables have several column, and most
    of these columns are text with 1024 characters length. I set the
    linesize to a huge number (say 3000), the trim and trimspool on,
    and I get the results ok.
    But, when I want to do a select from a table which is much
    smaller, the worksheet is always writing the complete linesize...
    Is there a way to display the columns according to the size they
    actually have (e.g. defined by the longest element) that is
    always valid. I mean without having to set column options for
    each table.
    Thank you in advance.
    Ana

    The column width sizing rules are a little opaque. The column size is a function of things like the width that the DB thinks the column is (could be huge if a SQL function is being selected), the column name or heading width, the linesize (for very wide columns), any global format (e.g. SET NUMWIDTH), or the explicit COLUMN FORMAT.
    For consistency and portability I'd always recommend using an explicit COLUMN FORMAT. You can never tell if someone is going to run your report after previously setting a COLUMN FORMAT of the same name. Or a new database version may come out where the default datatype of a SQL function has changed. In the past this has happened when CHARs became the longer VARCHAR2s.
    I don't think Enterprise Manager's SQL Worksheet (a simplistic interface that just calls SQL*Plus in the background) is doing anything special for formatting. So COLUMN FORMAT will work fine.

    In Oracle database, Oracle user is schema holder there's no seperate schema name to be defined other than username.

  • Unable to upload sql scripts in oracle database express edition 10g

    Hi!
    To start, I inform you that I am beginner with Oracle. I installed Oracle 10g Express Edition on my Ubuntu 9.10 like this:
    :~$ dpkg -i oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.0_i386.deb
    :~$ /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure
    and I keep default value. Then I go on http://127.0.01:8080/apex, I login with system account, I create another dba account etc ... all looks very well ! Then I follow this tutorial: http://st-curriculum.oracle.com/tutorial/DBXETutorial/index.htm
    and I am unable to load sql script which is given in this tutorial: load_sample.sql (page:What to do first> Loading Data). I try with a little sql script and same result. I use gedit with UTF-8 and load in UTF-8, my browser is Firefox (I try with Epiphany also).
    The result is: when I upload a script, The browser returns "script uploaded." Then I can click on my script but the file is empty ! Nothing is done when i click on "run". Also I can' create a script; With Epiphany browser, the frame to write is all red. To import a script I have to copy one by one request in sql commands. I try also to change the owner of load_sample.sql:
    -rw-r--r-- 1 oracle dba 49969 2010-01-10 12:05 load_sample.sql
    But it doesn't work. If someone has an idea ? Thanks for your help.
    regards
    Alex.
    load_sample.sql:
    CREATE TABLE regions
    ( region_id NUMBER
    CONSTRAINT region_id_nn NOT NULL
    , region_name VARCHAR2(25)
    CREATE UNIQUE INDEX reg_id_pk
    ON regions (region_id);
    ALTER TABLE regions
    ADD ( CONSTRAINT reg_id_pk
    PRIMARY KEY (region_id)
    ) ;

    Hi,
    So, go to shell ,position yourself in the path where load_sample.sql is, login to the XE as the user with whom you need to run load_sample.sql , and execute
    +@load_sample.sql.+
    Sorry to hijack this thread but I am having exactly the same problem in Ubuntu, it seems as if IE is the only browser that allows you to do this, but installing that in Ubuntu looks like a whole other world of pain I do not really want to get involved in at the moment.
    I like the sound of just shortcutting the sql upload through the shell but I'm a beginner and I do not understand your comment well enough to implement it myself.
    Could you please explain these in more granular layman's terms for someone who is unfamiliar with Linux syntax?
    By 'Shell' do you mean the Terminal or the SQL Command Line? What exactly should I be typing in there to execute the sql?
    I have saved the SQL file on my desktop (jon@jon-pc, it's a virtual Ubuntu machine on a Windows Vista host).
    Thanks in advance
    Jon

  • Where's the SQL*Plus Windows GUI?

    Is the SQL*Plus Windows GUI included in XE?

    Thanks, SQL Developer is perfect. It's strange that SQL Developer isn't bundled with Express Edition. SQL*Plus reminds me of Yazoo, big hair and the 1980's.
    Interestingly SQL Developer seems to be very similar to DBVisualizer. Do you know if that's an accident or did Oracle white label DBVisualizer perhaps?

  • How 2 find the "Requests from the SQL Developer Exchange Included" in 2.1.1

    Hi,
    I would like to explore the new features from 2.1.1
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/files/BugsFixed_v211.html
    But can not find them in:
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=42626:46
    Where are they explained...?
    Thanks, Juergen

    Thanks K,
    good hint with the filtering of the status...!
    I was just wondering if you can find the ID's. When you scroll to the end on: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/sql_developer/files/BugsFixed_v211.html
    there you find the section "Requests from the SQL Developer Exchange Included" with a lot of IDs...
    8411043 : Commit confirmation
    8755723 : Copy column name to clipboard (ctrl - shift- C)
    8487257 : Do not use ora_rowscn (Request implemented using a preference)
    but the filtering is good for me too...

  • Question about The SQL*Plus menu item

    The help doc says we can use SQL*Plus commands. So I open it from the SQL*Plus menu item under Tools. After I gave the installed SQL*Plus location and file name, SQL*Plus was opened by itself asking for a password. The question is are all SQL*Plus commands are supported/will be supported in Raptor? Thanks.

    See this.. http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/project_raptor/sql_worksheet_commands.html
    Not everything in plus is supported

  • Does SQL Developer have any way to run the SQL*PLUS COPY FROM command?

    set arraysize 100;
    set copycommit 100;
    COPY FROM SCOTT/TIGER@OtherDBinstance -
    CREATE COMPANY -
    USING SELECT * from COMPANY;

    Thanks. I have been using the create table ABC as select * from ABC@otherdb but this often runs into temp segment issues for very large tables. The SQL*PLUS version allows me to have the copy commit save after each xxxxx lines and this seems to be able to handle any size table. Can copy commit be used from SQL Developer?
