Is there a better option than spark VideoDisplay with AV syncing capabilities

We have developed an AIR application that involves syncing multiple audio tracks with a video track.  We are using the Spark VideoDisplay component for video and the Flash SoundChannel object for audio.  We are having trouble keeping the audio synced with the video.  Is there a better component to use for this?  Is there some technique to keeping audio and video synced in Flash/AIR?

Andrea,
Your sample does not look like being »foot-intensive«, I only find two footnotes. And those will not be a problem for FrameMaker.
For 2-column text layout FrameMaker (as InDesign) gives you the option to create one text frame set to have two columns, or create two connected text frames, each of them one column. To keep the footnote in the original column, you would use the latter method. More information can be found in the online help:
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/framemaker/using/WS6C3D24E6-2965-48bb-B6CF-50D1439AEB01.html
Regarding other elements of the sample pages I don’t see any stumbling blocks. Just be aware that the general approach to layout, and especially when using XML-structured documents, is completely different from InDesign. With InDesign you just move all the frames wherever and whenever you want. With FrameMaker you plan ahead, create master pages and paragraph styles and then follow this original design. Creating layout changes »on the fly« is just not the way you work in FrameMaker. But this limitation is the reason for a higher layout consistency.

  • Is there any better option than this slow query?

    Hi all,
i want to find out lets say Ticekt no range from Variable1 - Variable 2, are all ready existed or missing from my ticket master table which is having a million records and the no grows timely.
For example i want to find out in range 30000 - 50000
if any missings it should give missing number are
    34567
    45678 etc . etc.
i wrote a for.. loop and im checking one bye one from ticket master table using select count(*) from ticket_master where ticket_no = var, which is time consuming and server becoming slow when i issue this query. my ticket master ticket_no is indexed.
    any better idea advise please..

I am not sure I understand your problem correctly.
    Here are some test datas:
    create table ticket_masters ( ticket_no number) ;
exec for i in 1..1000 loop insert into ticket_masters values (round(i/0.97)); end loop
    select 200-1+rownum missing from ticket_masters where rownum<=300-200

Could you please do a desc ticket_masters to show me your datatype and also select a few ticket_no

  • Better options than DAVE for Win NT connection?

I work for a small Mac design group in a large business environment. We store Quark, InDesign, Photoshop files on the companies Win NT Server. To do this they have installed DAVE because they said just using OS X's PC connect ability was causing the documents to be looked at as .exe or unrecognizable files by the Mac. Lately some files are giving I/O errors on the server and getting corrupted. Is there a better option for communicating with a PC server than DAVE?

For just using OS X, I've never heard of any problems like that; I'm wondering if they're just confused? Or are they using a fairly fancy, unusual setup of some sort? Has anyone tried just connecting with the standard Mac feature?; I would be curious to hear what breaks (since if something does break, it probably implies that someone either misconfigured the Macs or misconfigured the server).
For the files in question: Are you able to access these files from a Windows computer?; can you read them there? I'm wondering if the IO error was a network problem (that DAVE might have a connection to), or just that their server's hard disk is failing.

How can I install ntfs on an external hard drive so that my Samsung Smart TV can see my media files? Or is there a better option?

OS X cannot natively write to a drive formatted as NTFS, nor can it format a drive as NTFS. There are third-party NTFS drivers available on the market.
Just out of curiosity: Even with NTFS, how is your TV going to access the external hard drive? Does the TV have a USB port?

  • Adobe has made upgrades with the Dreamweaver CS6 fluid grids. Is there a better tutorial than this?

It there a better tutorial than this anywhere http://blogs.adobe.com/dreamweaver/2013/02/updated-fluid-grids-in-dreamweaver.html ? I can't seem to understand this guy. I know he means well. I really want to learn fluid grids. Thanks any reconmandations?

If you want to learn to make responsive Web pages, do not rely on
Adobe's fluid grid system. Learn CSS yourself. If you need to rely on a
grid framework, then you are barking up the wrong tree. I can absolutely
guarantee that if you do not fully understand the theories behind
responsive design and you use the Adobe fluid grid (or the open source
frameworks/scripts that Adobe uses) your site will eventually break.
Study and learn. If you are sharp enough, you will quickly come to
understand that nearly every article and tutorial on the subject is
plain wrong. The essence of responsive design is very easy and does not
require anyone's code but your own.

I have Windows 7, Microsoft Outlook and PSE 13. I have used the "Share photos as embedded images" feature frequently, but today when I went to use it, it wasn't there, only the option to send email with files attached. How do I get back the ability to send emails with photos embedded. I like adding the frames and backgrounds and I think it's easier for recipients to look at the photos. Thanks for any suggestions of things to try.

I had a similar problem in that my wife's iphone 5 could not send pics with imessage.  Had to set the settings to default to SMS or whatever.  After laboring many hours on the web I coincidentally was on the phone with the internet people to question my internet speed.  They changed the router channel, which is something that I am capable of doing myself.  After that, the pics go over imessage.  My own Iphone didn't have the problem.  We are both latest IOS 7.0.6.

  • Better option than array[][]?

Is there a better(faster) option, I'm thinking something from Collections, for working with multideminsional problems where a double array is typically used? Or should I stick with imbedded for loops and double arrays.

    For Clarification:
    int[][] myArray = new int[100][100];
    for(int i = 0; i < myArray.length; i++){
         for(int j = 0; j < myArray.length; j++){

  • Express and Extreme - is there a better way than WDS?

    Hi all
I have a UFO extreme (connected to the modem) and an express set up for WDS to extend the range of the network. The performance is terrible. Is there a better way to extend the network?
Could I connect the express to the extreme via a CAT5 cable? If so would this provide better performance and - how would I set this up?

Ensure that your Airport Express is placed correctly.
    Also check for interference.
Could I connect the express to the extreme via a CAT5 cable? If so would this provide better performance
Yes this will provide much better performance. WDS effectively halves the bandwidth and can be more susceptible to interference than a single base station.
and - how would I set this up?
You would create a roaming network. The remote Airport Express would be configured as a wireless bridge (not distribute IP addresses), it would (like WDS) use the same network name and wireless security as the main base station, however unlike WDS it needs to be on a different channel.

  • Is a PowerMac G5 2.4 Dual Chip (used) a better option than an iMac?

    Hi Guys
I'm still reasonably new to Macs, and I am really more of a music person than a computer person (which is frustrating at times!!).
I am looking at selling my iMac 2.4GHz (4GB RAM) and replacing it with a current iMac 2.66GHz, because the new iMacs can handle 8GB of RAM, which would really help me run BFD2 with less problems.
But I noticed this on eBay:
APPLE POWERMAC G5 2.3 GHZ DUAL CHIP-240gb HD-1.5 gb RAM (eBay item 230346540784) - would this be a better choice than going with a new iMac?
I don't even know if this one is Quad Core. My knowledge of Mac Pros is zero! But I do know a lot of people go for them over iMacs, and even suggest getting a second hand Mac Pro in preference to a new iMac if it's for music.
Could someone help out and tell me if the above machine is a better bet than going for a new iMac?
    Thanks heaps,
    Mike

i dont have any evidence to prove this, but i would think that your iMac would run circles around the much older power mac G5 system.
a mac pro would be a diff story. mac pros are the 'new' version of the power macs now running intel chips.

  • Interview editing question - is there a better way than what I am doing?

I've got a skype interview I am editing, and I want to cut between a side by side shot (shown below, exhibit A) and a centered full screen shot (shown below, exhibit B).
I need to keep the audio and images synced across all shots. Additionally, I'll have a motion background that I want to keep synced as well.
What I am planning to do is just stack all the shots on top of each other, so that all the motion and audio stays in sync.
Then to change between shots, I was thinking I might just "Blade all" at the spot in time where I want the different angle, and then delete the unwanted portion of footage.
I wonder if there is an easier way?
Actually in thinking about it, I wonder if I can take the two side by side shots, make a compound shot, then combine that shot back with the two orignals for a multicam clip?
If that works, it would be easier for sure!.
Any other ways this would commonly be achieved?
    Oh and one more question...
My whole reason for wanting to switch from the side by side view to the individual views, is that I want to put in some lower thirds and I couldn't come up with a good way to do that on the side by side and have it look right - Are there any commonly accepted techniques for dealing with lower thirds with side by side interview footage?
       Exhibit A:
       Exhibit B:

Thanks Russ H and Ross H!
I'm finding Multicam, combined with Compound Clips to be extrememly efficient.
I started with 2 different video clips, along with 2 different audio clips.
Layed out both clips side by side (visually, they are on top of each other on the timeline),and made that a single compound clip.
Then I laid out both audio clips on top of each other on the timeline and made those a compound clip.
    So now I have
    2 original individual Video shots
1 compound video shot of the 2 above side by side.
    2 original audio tracks
    1 compound audio track
Next I made a multicam track, and added to it all 3 video shots (2 original + 1 compound) And I added the compound audio track. I set that audio track to be "the" track.
It's just a little bit of setup, but really not that bad, and the ability to use the multicam feature to switch between shots, while keeping everything in sync is fantastic!

  • Is there a better way to do this with Flash?

I am new to Flash but am slowly teaching myself via Lynda.com etc
I have an image that I have added to a website via a content management system and want to make certain areas of that image into links to other sites.
I found this page that does the kind of thing I want to do, but it appears from looking at the source code that the person who has done this has cut the image up into several sections in order to fit it into a table: http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/staffdevelopment/postdocs1/guidance
Is there a better way to achieve the same kind of effect using Flash by making ares of an image into links and keeping the image as a whole?

There are ways to keep the image whole and have portions of it linking to different places both in HTML and in Flash.  In HTML you can use an image map.  In Flash, you can just lay invisible buttons atop the image and use those to link.

  • DVI to Video adapter CRT Broadcast Monitor? Is there a better option?

I am a freelance motion graphics artist, and I use Final Cut Studio, After Effects, Photoshop, etc.
I need a CRT monitoring solution for checking my color grades, etc.
SD resolution is fine, and i've got my eye on a JVC TMH-150CGU broadcast monitor from B&H. It has an S-Video (Y/C) input.
I'm thinking of using the Apple DVI Video Adapter hook up to it via S-Video.
I have a Pantone Eye-One that I can use to calibrate the monitor.
Would this setup work ok in the above applications? Will it support Digital Cinema Desktop Preview in Final Cut?
I have the 30" Apple display. Will connecting the CRT via DVI steal 256mb of my video memory???? That seems drastic considering it's already driving a 30" display AND running after effects!!
I've thought about FireWire monitoring, but I suspect the FireWire/DV 4:1:1 compression will affect the colors.
I know a CAPTURE CARD would be ideal, with SDI, etc... but I don't really have a need for a full blown capture card at the moment. I don't think use it to it's full potential (ie- to capture). It seems silly spending $$$$ just for a monitoring solution.
Or is a capture card my only option for pro monitoring? If I was to buy one, i'd want a future proof one should I digitize in the future (ie, HD, with analog support), so that leaves either a Blackmagic Intensity Pro (which I believe is only 8 bit) or a BlackMagic Decklink HD Extreme. And then i'd also need the SDI or Component expansion card for the JVC monitor, and before I know it, i've spent over $1000, just for a decent monitoring solution. Ouch.
I strongly considered the Intensity Pro card, because I could monitor SD component, and HDMI HD from the same card. But it put me off when I heard it ws only 8 bit. But it is 4:2:2 though.
What might KILL the Apple DVI adapter option is I have a TON of PAL footage, and I heard the adapter is NTSC only (or a seperate PAL version). So even though the monitor supports both standards, the adapter doesn't. Or so I've heard.
Very confused. Any other options or advice would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Hi,
From the sound of things you have answered your own question.
If you wanted a CRT to just check video playback, safe areas and text legibility then a cheap option of monitoring via a deck or camera would suffice.
You mention a lot of PAL footage just as a FYI this would be 4:2:0 as opposed to 4:1:1 with NTSC under the DV codec.
You don't mention (and I'm sorry if I missed it) what codec you output to. I had always found when working with DV only that a DV monitoring solution was sufficient for most applications.
However as you indicate that colour plays a factor in the equation bite the bullet and get a decent monitoring system from the off. I am using the Decklink Extreme and have found it to be excellent especially in real time conversion and monitoring of HD to SD.
In addition you get the ability to work all the way up to 10bit (drives allowing) and capture over SDI with full deck control.
You could stagger the cost since the BM card will let you monitor composite out in addition to component so the expansion board for the CRT might not be a must have from the get go for you.
Whatever route you go you will want to calibrate the CRT using broadcast colour bars rather than a Pantone system, theres plenty of info on the web regarding this . . and why.

  • Only use a computer for email, internet, basic computing. Is the ipad a better option than a macbook?

Used to have a macbook, bought it back in '07, had to sell it shortly thereafter.
Don't have a computer now and need one.
Looking over the macbook pro, I am wondering if it is too much computer for me.
I use a computer for emails, surfing the web and twitter.
I'm wondering if the ipad would be a better fit, or if I should be looking for a computer.
    Thanks.

MacBook air just perfect i have an iPad 2 ( I know it's an old one but it is almost same ) i mostly need pc for stuff and normally I like to download movies for that I need a good memory which you won't get on an iPad best choice for you is a 11 or 13 inch MacBook air iPad is bettween comp and a phone it is good but not enought ( altleast for me ) if you take an iPad u won't the benefits of downloading zip files and many other files but with a MacBook you can do it as it supports all iPad is good for presenting stuff good for reading books , web pages are good too ( flash is not there so some sites are not good ) editing word docs or slidshows are nice and easy but not fully usefull ( simple editing options) if you convert the files say into doc it gets messy on a comp to see , plus doc files with lots of stuff like photos and tables gets messed up but if we convert to PDF then you get a nice experience , MacBook has many options in pages , numbers , keynote , you will like an iPad even I like it but like u even I am looking for a MacBook right now as I need to back up files and download movies anyways it decides unto u so go to the apple shop he will help u choice the right choice a person here will only tell good stuff and suggest what he likes but if you go to the apple store he will give you the perfect choice for u

    Hi,
for some strange reason my project team wants to use XHTML for layout rather than any of the existing BSP extensions...the reason being the HTMLB does not generate XHTML in the back-end or something like that. Is anyone aware of any such lackings in BSP extensions that we have? Are there any alternatives with in BSP extensions? I want to convince the team to use standard BSP extensions...

but I dont think it is going to have what you are looking for. I have had some experience with itegrating output from BSP into a Websphere portal and it wasnt that much fun. We used iframes to host the bsp application in portal which wasnt ideal. This was only for a prototype of a large application and the full blown applicaion would have probably used websphere making bapi calls to get the info from sap. One option was using EP between BSP and WebSphere but this is probably not an option due to budget  constraints.
This isn't a great deal of help but hopefully it is food for thought.
