Is there a Data Model in BW for Financial Reporting?

Hi,
I am required to integrate a non-SAP Financial application to SAP BW. I am wondering if there exists a Data Model in SAP BW that supports out of the box canned reports. This will help me target the interface design to feed the existing Data Model. Any pointers to this Data Model and list of canned reports would be very helpful.
Thanks,
Nitin

Have you looked at the BI content:

This will link to an R3 backend but it will give you an idea of what can be done?

  • Data Model best Practices for Large Data Models

We are currently rolling out Hyperion IR 11.1.x and are trying to establish best practces for BQYs and how to display these models to our end users.
So far, we have created an OCE file that limits the selectable tables to only those that are within the model.
Then, we created a BQY that brings in the tables to a data model, created metatopics for the main tables and integrated the descriptions via lookups in the meta topics.
This seems to be ok, however, anytime I try to add items to a query, as soon as i add columns from different tables, the app freezes up, hogs a bunch of memory and then closes itself.
Obviously, this isnt' acceptable to be given to our end users like this, so i'm asking for suggestions.
Are there settings I can change to get around this memory sucking issue? Do I need to use a smaller model?
and in general, how are you all deploying this tool to your users? Our users are accustomed to a pre built data model so they can just click and add the fields they want and hit submit. How do I get close to that ideal with this tool?
    thanks for any help/advice.

I answered my own question. in the case of the large data model, the tool by default was attempting to calculate every possible join path to get from Table A to Table B (even though there is a direct join between them).
in the data model options, I changed the join setting to use the join path with the least number of topics. This skipped the extraneous steps and allowed me to proceed as normal.
hope this helps anyone else who may bump into this issue.

  • Can we dynamically select DataSets in Data Model of a BI Publisher Report?

    Hello,
    I have a requirement as below -
For a report 'XX Report1' we have Data Model(concatenated SQL Data Source) with 3 Datasets -
New DataSet1 - WebService Call (WSDL) (Say D1)
    New DataSet2 - SQL QueryA (Say D2)
    New DataSet3 - SQL QueryB (Say D3)
    Layout - 'XXRTFFile.RTF'
And another report 'XX Report2' with Data Model(concatenated SQL Data Source) with 3 Datasets -
    New DataSet1 - SQL QueryC (Say D4)
    New DataSet2 - SQL QueryA (D2)
    New DataSet3 - SQL QueryB (D3)
    Layout - 'XXRTFFile.RTF'
Note that DataSet2 and DataSet3 have the same queries in both the reports.
'XX Report1' is called from Siebel frontend through a URL
'XX Report2' is called from Batch Programming later.
The requirement is to come up with a single Report for both of these calls.
So, I thought of merging all the DataSets in to 1 Data Model as D1,D2,D3,D4.
Is there a way for us to select the DataSets from Data Model using the Parameters when Report is run, so that the report picks up D1, D2, D3 if it is called from Siebel frontend and D4,D2,D3 if its run from Batch Programming?
Please let me know. Thanks in advance.
    Thanks,
    Phani

The web services API would probably be your best bet. http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10415_01/doc/bi.1013/e10416/bip_webservice_101331.htm#CHDGIJHH
There is some Java examples in the above. I'm guessing the c# code wouldn't be too different.

  • Defining default value for financial reports display in the workspace (9.3)

    Hi
I need to change the default value for financial reports workspace preview mode, for every workspace user. It is actually set on html, and I would like to have pdf instead.
This option can be changed when logged on the workspace, in file->preferences->financial reporting->default preview mode. However I want every user to start with the right settings, so they dont have to change anything manually.
I have tried to do it with Shared Services : under projects, BI+, assign preferences. From there I can change the default folder and the start page (the general preferences), however I cannot find the options for financial reporting.
Is there a way to change these values with hyperion tools ?
If not, is it possible to change it directly in the repository DB ?Thanks and best regards

We looked at this about 2 years ago - from memory, you can only set preferences when the users are first setup in Shared Services, under the manage preferences section of the wizard.
I can't remember if there is a settings file you can edit for the default users - i think there is, but again this must be set before users are set up.
We looked at changing users preferences, but gave up on the idea as all users had been provisioned already :-(

  • For financial report requirment can we consider secondary cost element cost

For financial reporting requirment can we consider secondary cost element cost to profit and loss a/c

In our senario _ cost is booking cost centers and revenues booking concern profit centers .
for Financial reporting requirment can I include secondary cost to profit and loss a/c
what is the impact on the report
exp: salary booking in primary cost, than Per hour man hour cost computed by costing dept for allocate to concern department
it is cost center activity price we specify in kp26 at the time of pm order confirm it will confim the activity quandity price will from planning area only,  so for salaries in primary g/ls already captured, if we consider secondary it may double booking

Does someone could help me explaining in which configuration file is set the e-mail server for Financial Reporting or Workspace ? I am using EPM 11.1.2.1 version and open the FR reports inside the Workspace.

You could do the email setup through the configuration utility by selecting the Foundation ->Configure Common settings.

  • Order settlement cost ( Activity cost) can we consider for financial report

I am in port Implemetation as per their senario financial reports based on cost center hierarchy,
for minisrial report requirement, they submitting Operational wise nothing but cost center heirarchy wise
for Pm order settlement Man hour cost based on kp26 computed cost converted actual at the time of confirmation. At the time of settlement to concern cost center is debited but primary cost booking for (man hour) salaries not deducting the primary cost element. Here is salaries and manhours both is apprearing in the cost center. My client requirement is based manour activity cost deducted in salary primary element, they want that process. After Order settlement based on amount we can deduct concern intial cost booking cost center to Order settle cost center.
Please suggest and PM order cost affect in cost center in primary booking and after order settlement
    Please anyone resolve my issue
    Clarification above issue
when we settle PM order Activtiy cost (Manhours) based on the salaried booked in primary cost element,we assume per hour man hour cost and specify in kp26 based on the activtiy cost planning system picks cost and at time of order settlement it will settle concern cost center.
intially we booked salaries in primary cost not thing but salaries a/c and once again we are settling the same salary assumption cost to cost center ...
when we go  for cost center report Initial salary a/c booking Administrative cost center and now production cost center with activity cost with secondary cost element ....so problem is both cost centers are debiting for the same salaries( activity cost) but my client want cost center  report all including primary and secondary cost element total balance.

    Dear Sudhakar,
salaries cost booked in administrative cost center with primary cost element salary a/c
but Activity type man hour is meant for per hour salary cost. we can specified in kp26
so when we take cost center report, we get salary amount and activity cost in admin cost center and product cost center for the same salary amount... for financial report requirment, if we use cost center report the salay amount appeared twice.
Please explain the activity cost against salay amount ..

  • OBIEE Best Practice Data Model/Repository Design for Objectives/Targets

    Hello World!
We are faced with a design question that has become somewhat difficult and we need some help. We want to be able to compare side-by-side actual measures with their corresponding objectives/targets. Sounds simple. But, our objectives are static (not able to be aggregated) with multi-dimensionality and multi-levels. We need some best practice tips on how to design our data model and repository properly so that we can see the objective/target for a measure regardless of the dimensions that are used in the criteria and regardless of the level.
    Here is some more details:
    Example of existing objective table.

    - Right now we have quarterly objectives set using 3 different dimensions. So, if an author were to add one or more (or zero) dimensions to their criteria for a given measure they could get back a different objective. They could add Dimension1 and get 99%. They could add Dimension1 and Dimension2 and get 98%. They could add all three dimensions and get 97%. They could add zero dimensions (highest grain) and get 99%. Using our existing structure if we were to add a new dimension to the mix the possible combinations would grow dramatically. (Not flexible)
    - We would like our final solution to be flexible enough so that we could view objectives with altogether different dimensions and possibly get different objectives.
    - We currently have 3 fact tables with 3+ conformed dimension tables and a few unique dimension tables.
Could anyone share a similar situation where you have implemented a data model structure with the proper repository joins to handle showing side-by-side objectives/targets where the objectives were static and could be displayed at differing levels with flexible dimensions as described?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi..yes this suggestion is nice...first configure the sensors(activity or variable) ..then configure the sensor action as a JMS Topic which will in turn insert the data into a DB..Or when u configure the sensor action as a DB..then the data goes to Oracle Reports schema..if there is any chance of altering the DB..i mean if there is any chance by changing config files so that the data doesnt go to that Reports schema and goes to a custom schema created by any User....i dont know if it can b done...my problem is wen i m configuring the jms Topic for sensor actions..i see blank data coming..for sm reason or the other the data is not getting posted ...i have used a esb ..a routing service based on the schema which i am monitoring...can any1 help?

  • Data Modeler bug? - it keeps reporting missing physical model files

    Hi,
I'm having a rather serious problem with the latest data modeler, Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler 3.1.4.710. It keeps losing physical model files for some reason.
I started to notice that it was not generating all the tables in my small design. After hours of struggle I found multiple error messages in the log file:

These messages appeared every time I opened my physical model (Oracle 10g).
After deleting and recreating the physical model the problem went away for a while. But after closing and reopening the design I started to see the errors again.
    Has anyone seen something similar?
    Regards,
    Brian

    Thanks Philip!
The workaround does the trick for the tables, primary keys and unique keys.
I have just observed that table level constraints show a slightly different behaviour.
Names show up like TCC5, TCC6, etc.
Seems the same problem as previously in SQL*Modeler forgets check constraint names
Is there a workaround for that problem too ?
I already noticed that there is no parameter NameChanged for a table constraint.

  • Attempt to assign data set as datasource for existing report

There must be something stupid I am missing.
    1) Created a report with Crystal Reports 2011
    2) It queries a table in a SQL 2008 database
    3) The internal select statement is
    SELECT "CUSTOMER"."rname", "CUSTOMER"."radd", "CUSTOMER"."radd2", "CUSTOMER"."rcity", "CUSTOMER"."rprov", "CUSTOMER"."rpostal", "CUSTOMER"."rcountry"
    FROM   "Data"."dbo"."CUSTOMER" "CUSTOMER"
    ORDER BY "CUSTOMER"."rname"
    4) Now I am attempting to use the report in Visual Basic 2010 but using a data set as the source
    5) Following examples I have looked at this is the code
    Private Sub CustomerCrystalReport2frm_Load(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
            ' Define connection information
            Dim ConnectionInfo As New ConnectionInfo
            ConnectionInfo.ServerName = "TEST7\TEST7"
            ConnectionInfo.DatabaseName = "Data"
            ConnectionInfo.UserID = "Master"
            ConnectionInfo.Password = "MasterPassword"
            ' Load the existing report
Dim rd As ReportDocument = New ReportDocument
            rd.Load(Application.StartupPath & "\Crystal Reports\DGVCustomerListing.rpt")
SetDBLogonForReport(ConnectionInfo, rd) ' Set the report table connections
' This shows the report has loaded the records using the internal select statement (18305 records)
            Debug.Print(" Report Document Records=" & rd.Rows.Count)
' Create the data set with the records I want the report to use
Dim ReportInfo As DataSet = New DataSet()    ' To hold data to pass to the report
Dim SQLSelect As String = "select * FROM Data.dbo.Customer where rname LIKE 'z%' order by rname"
ReportInfo = FillDataSet(SQLSelect, "ReportData")   ' Fill the data set to pass to the report
' This shows the data set contains the expected records (57 records)
            Debug.Print(" Data Set Records=" & ReportInfo.Tables("ReportData").Rows.Count)
' Change the source of the report
            rd.SetDataSource(ReportInfo)
' This changing the source had no effect records still (18305 records)
            Debug.Print(" Report Document Records=" & rd.Rows.Count)
CrystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = rd  ' Bind report document to crystal report viewer
        End Sub
Private Sub SetDBLogonForReport(ByVal ConnectionInfo As ConnectionInfo, ByVal ReportDocument As ReportDocument)
Dim Tables As Tables = ReportDocument.Database.Tables
For Each table As CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.Table In Tables
Dim TableLogOnInfo As TableLogOnInfo = table.LogOnInfo
                TableLogOnInfo.ConnectionInfo = ConnectionInfo
                table.ApplyLogOnInfo(TableLogOnInfo)
            Next
        End Sub
    end Sub
    6) The report is appearing in the viewer with 18305 records
    Any help would be appreciated

Setting the report table connections caused the report to fill with data.
At this point I seemed unable to reset the datasource.
Also the set data source needed further clearification.
    The simplified following code works:
Dim rd As ReportDocument = New ReportDocument
    rd.Load(Application.StartupPath & "\Crystal Reports\DGVCustomerListing.rpt")
' Create the data set with the records I want the report to use
Dim ReportInfo As DataSet = New DataSet()    ' To hold data to pass to the report
Dim SQLSelect As String = "select * FROM Data.dbo.Customer where rname LIKE 'z%' order by rname"
ReportInfo = FillDataSet(SQLSelect, "ReportData")   ' Fill the data set to pass to the report
' Change the source of the report
    rd.SetDataSource(ReportInfo.Tables("ReportData"))
CrystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = rd  ' Bind report document to crystal report viewer

  • To display Last Date of the Month in Financial Reporting studio 9

    Hi
I want to display last date of the month in header in Financial Reporting studio 9 . Is there any function which displays the last date of the month as per user selection .
    for example
If user select month of Jan it should display Jan 31st, 2009
If user select month of Feb it should display Feb 28th 2009
    Thanks

Unless you name your Months like that you cannot do it. A large team from a major consulting firm told me for a year that it was not possible and convinced management that financial statements don't need dates.
Management decided that we do need dates (because all financials need dates, look at any text book). I figured out a pretty sweet solution that is simple and easy to use and maintain. The users love it. Management loves it.
I'm not giving it away though.

  • Datasource for financial reporting structure

    Hello,
I am extracting data from several finance datasources (FINGLAU*) to an external BW system. For several reporting requirements I need an extract of the so-called Financial Reporting Structures, which are effectively hierarchies of GL-accounts.
I have found a way to manually save these structures to an Excel-file through the Business Configuration work center. However I would like to automate this process by extracting these from a data source but I as of yet I have not been able to find one.
Does anyone know of a datasource to extract these structures?
    Regards, Dirk

    Hello Dirk,
I am not sure if there is a data source for the financial reporting structure.
You can check help center document : Overview of Data Sources in SAP Business By Design
for the list of all available data sources.

The issue might be with some unknown hostname updated in the HSS registry. Not sure whether you have resolved it already but checking the registry.log file in the config logs folder would be a great way to start.

  • How to use Adobe Distiller in Win 2k8 server 64-bit for Financial Reporting

    Hi All,
We need to use the Adobe Distiller in Windows 2008 Server SP2 OS for generating PDF reports in Financial Reporting. However, the Adobe Distiller installation recognises the OS version i.e. 32-bit or 64-bit and installs itself automatically.
Now, the problem is that Hyperion Financial Reporting supports only 32-bit version of Adobe Distiller. Has anyone faced a similar issue or can anyone provide some lead into this?

    Hi Sultan,
    The version is 11.1.2.0
When we were unable to print the PDF reports, we raised an SR during which it was informed that
only 32-bit version of Adobe Distiller is supported. This can also be due to implied dependency. As
per the support matrix, if we use Win 2008 SP2 as the OS, only 32-bit binaries for FR is supported.
Hence, it implies that only 32-bit Adobe Distiller might be supported for generating PDF output.

  • PDF preview in workspace not working for Financial Reporting

I have an issue in workspace with doinga PDF preview on a Financial Reporting report. PDF preview works fine via workspace but only FR has the problem, here is the error that is displayed. I am running FR server on AIX and the print servers are on windows platform. We have two installations pointing to same windows box for print server. The 1st if FR for HFM running all on windows, the 2nd is FR on AIX for an Essbase installation. The HFM FR install works great via workspace but the the 2nd produces the following error:
    Error 500--Internal Server Error
From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:
    10.5.1 500 Internal Server Error
The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.
We made the port for the print server static(it is normally dynamic) so we could open the firewall port to the print server and have verifed it is open.
Does anyone have a suggestion of what could be producing the Internal Server Error. I should mention that we use Weblogic for the web deployment of workspace if that should have any bearing on the issue.

Firewall issues were preventing this problem.
