Is there a repair installation option?

If this was a PC I'd say that I had corrupted my Windows Registry. All I get when I boot up is a flashing folder with a question mark and the "Mac face". Is there a way to repair the OS without deleting all ythe data already o nthe Hard Drive? Sort of the Mac equivalent of using Windows XP Setup's "Repair" function?

Welcome To  Discussions DarkPhoenixe!
"...repair installation option?"
From your one of your other Topics, I think that you have Tiger 10.4.x installed. Is that correct?
Did you just install Tiger?
If so, what version of OS did you upgrade from?
Did you do a Simple Upgrade, or an Archive & Install?
Did you use a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD?
The discs should look exactly like the images in the above links, and not say Upgrade, CPU Drop-in DVD, or "This software is part of a hardware bundle purchase - not to be sold seperately." on them.

What peripherals do you have connected? A keyboard, mouse, printer, external drive or modem, router, etc?
What happened between the last time the Mac started successfully, and when it didn't?
Have you made any changes, like upgrading the system, updated or installed any applications or programs, etc?
Have there been any unusual occurences, like freezes, crashes, power outages, etc?
Are you able to startup from the system install disc to run Disk Repair?
Have you run Repair Permissions?
Is the Mac shutdown overnight, or does it run 24/7?
Have you ever run any routine Maintenance procedures?

  • Is there a 'repair' option in DW CS4?

Dreamweaver just got stuck when I was saving a style sheet. I have switched off completely and re-started my computer but DW still tells me that my CSS files 'appear to be html' and all the external style sheet CSS options have vanished.
Is there a 'repair' option for this software? I have CS4 web standard.  I looked in Windows Control panel and only found the uninstall option, if I am re-installing on the same computer do I still have to de-active the product?
    Grateful for some advice

No there is not a repair option.  You really should de-activate your suite from another product if you can get in.  Because many cases the uninstall does not work well and most people have to use the CS4 Clean Script which erases the activation and if you did not de-activate the product you would have to go through a process.  If you are still able to get into DW though, make sure you Export all of your Sites to back them up because once you re-install the suite the defined sites will no longer be there.

  • Is there any repair full load option in DTP?

    Hi Experts,
I have run delta DTP from Cube A to Cube B with selection less than or equal to 31.03.2004 and I want to run grater than 31.03.2004. Now the problem is this load is not bringing the required records because data mart symbol is already set in Cube A.
How do I extract grater than 01.04.2009?
Is there any repair full load option in DTP?

    Hi,
I am afraid that we have only full and delta options available in DTP, but the several other options available on extraction tab will enable us to do something similar to it.
If you looking to get data after 31.03.2004, in you selction condition change the from date to 01.04.2004 and  try extracting, I am sure it will give you the desired records.
Please follow info on this link and decide which would suit to your requirement, if you get stuck, post back and I'll try to assist you.

  • Best installation option

I'm a little late to jump on the train for upgrading to leopard, but I decided now was a pretty good time (since I can get 10.5.XX and 10.6.XX for less than the iLife/iWork package due to a school discount). So within the next week or two I plan to upgrade from OS X Tiger to OS X Leopard, but am unsure which option is best suited for me.
I know there are three options: Upgrade, Archive and Install, and Erase and Install, but I'm unsure which is the best option.
I have an external harddrive that I have all my documents and music, which is mostly all I keep on my laptop, aside from some third party apps.
i was wondering what some people have found most beneficial, it would seem that archive and install is pretty popular, but my MacBook Pro only has an 80G harddrive, and I've used 29.52G of it, so i'm not sure if I would have enough HD space to do an archive and install. With that being the case, I've been leaning towards and erase and install.
But what do you guys think is the best approach?
    Thanks.
    Tony

If you don't want to erase your hard drive then the safest option is an Archive and Install. You obviously have more than enough free space on your hard drive to do so. See the following:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Windows repair installation Pavilions a6720y Windows Vista 64 bit

Can you provide a Windows Repair Installation Disc?
I recently had a serious PC problem. I knew that I would have to hand my PC over to someone and selected a Local Technical Specialists (Geek Squad) who diagnosed it as a crashed main HD, installed a new Drive and reinstalled the OS from recovery disks provided by HP.
I personally had to reinstall many programs and settings. I needed specialist assistance to reestablish my home network that did work before the crash with the same hardware but not after.
My Main PC is a desktop:
    HP Pavillian,
    Model a6720y,
Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit,
    6GB Physical Memory,
connected to a DSL Modem via Ethernet connection.
My second PC is a Dell Pavillion B130 Laptop, Windows XP
DSL Modem provided by Verizon, is a WestTell modem.
I have an External 1 TB HD from HP, a HP HD3000, Ser # TH1B32Y047
The System Recovery was performed with discs that I received from HP. System Recovery, Windows Vista Home Premium SP1, HP505283-001, Build ID 91ANv6PrA1.
I am contacting you because I believe that something went wrong with the reinstallation or there was more that should have been done after the initial Reinstall.
Within hours of bringing the PC home, I discovered that Windows Media Player was not working. I contacted the local support organization. They advised that yes there was a problem with Windows Media Player and downloaded an alternate program for playing Videos, VLC.
After installing several 3rd party program that were Video DVD maker Utilities, I started to have problems that did not exist before the reinstall. This is of course with the same hardware except for the new Internal HD.
I contacted the local support because I was having serious problems reestablishing my at home local network. I was informed that there were some serious Vista problems.
Can you comment on the above?
Can you provide a Windows Repair Installation Disc?
My PC is out of warranty but I did purchase and renew that HP Care Pack Support Service. That may also have expired. My last renewal that I can find was Tran # CA03207588-0001.
Your response to the above, especially your advice on a Windows Repair would be appreciated.

I really need help. I try to contact support to no avail. There simply is no option on the site, You are always referred to a further topic which has notihing to do with my problem. I bougnt a full master pack CS6 which I had installed on a mac for one year. Then, I decided to change it to another computer, so I sisintalled it according to instructions. In the meantime I got a free trial of creative cloud on that computer, but I gave up and decided to reinstall my cd-roms. However, everytime I try to use acrobat for instance it says that my trial period ran out! I disinstalled my cloud products, I am using my registered full master series items, they have nothing whatsoever to do with my creative cloud FREE subscription. If I try to cancel my free membership, it is to no avail, there simply is no such possiblity. I want to use the software I paid dearly for, not the cloud items I disinstalled and which do not interest me. How can I contact Adobe to fix it? It was no fault of mine, I did all I was supposed to, disintalling items before installing the right ones, but the system must have some error i am not responsible for.

open an app and click help>activate.
if you try to open an app and see a 'your trial has expired" window, click license this software and enter your serial number.
if you can't do either, run the cleaner and make sure cc is cleaned from your computer, Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6

  • JDK 1.4.2 installation options

    Hi,
Can someone point me to documentation of all installation options for JDK 1.4.2 (windows)? I know how to create silent install but options for ADDLOCAL are needed (I wanto to silent install in custom path with private SDK only).

To "install" the SDK (or 1.5's JDK) only doesn't require an installer. Just copy the SDK files into the desired directory - Ther are no external references (Registry) to the SDK.. Then to run the programs, provide the full path to the executables - or set a path variable.

  • Is there good project management options for OS X server?

We are a small (3 person) shop and want to host our own project management solution. We would love to share project info and assign tasks etc... Does anyone do thin on their own server? We have used Manymoon and now Do.com.

There are a few options for self hosted project management you can consider, but most are considerably more complicated to use than either Do or Manymoon.  Here are some examples of things you can look at, in order of declining 'project management' competence.  For each item there are others available I've not mentioned, but if you search for any of these you'll soon find the alternatives via Google.  So, have a look at:
    * Merlin - A full featured project management package a bit like MS Project, but runs native on OS X and has pretty functional iThing clients too (though they don't yet support iOS7...).  Quite expensive - but each client has the ability to share projects across a LAN (or WAN), so you can do stuff without buying the server app (which is very expensive).  Steep learning curve for app.  http://www.projectwizards.net/en/
    * ActiveCollab - a self-hosted php based groupware portal system.  Originally started as an open source competitor / complement of the earliest forms of Basecamp, it has long ago evolved into its own thing but filling broadly the same space.  Requires an Apache2/MySQL/PHP installation to run, and allows the sharing of information about projects, along with a fairly complex project management capability.  All the pros / cons of web based service apply.  Much easier to learn to use, and deploy than Merlin.  https://www.activecollab.com
    * Studiometry - a different take on the problem, this is an attempt at a whole-business management app for small firms, covering everything from sales pipeline tracking through to simple CRM and invoice management.  Has the ability to share files related to projects, and allocate / track tasks within a group.  Has clients for OS X, Windows and iOS.  As with Merlin, has network sharing abilities built into each client, so no need for a 'server' to make it work, but in practical terms you need an 'always on' copy to act as hub for an office.  http://oranged.net
    * BusyCal - a much simpler solution, but if you are looking to replace Do.com then it might be all you need.  Allows you to share calendar / task information on a LAN, and offers somewhat enhanced calendar functions to regular OS X.  http://www.busymac.com/busycal/

  • No Disks that meet the citeria in the Solaris installer documentation found. Please check the system or try another installation option #

I'm tring to install this on an IBM netfinity 5100 server which has ultra 160 scsi drives.I get this message
"No Disks that meet the citeria in the Solaris installer documentation found. Please check the system or try another installation option #"
Please help me. I new to UNIX and SOLARIS.Thanks!
    VC

You are probably using the INSTALL CD that comes with Solaris x86.
Don't use it but use the Software CD 1/1 to boot and install the system instead. The INSTALL CD is supposed to be used on a completely blank system (no other OS's) although even there I think Software CD 1/1 does the job.
Also, if you are new to Solaris I advice you to get the FAQ (you can find it on e.g. http://www.science.uva.nl/pub/solaris/solaris2- it should be really helpfull during the first few weeks/months on Solaris

  • "Enhancement Package Installation" option is missing for CRM 7.0/NW 7.1

    Hi Expert,
I am trying to install EHP1 on CRM 7.0/NW 7.1. Following the installation guide, I updated the solution manager to SP stack 24, and use MOPZ to download the software packages. But when I create a new MOPZ transaction, there is only "Maintenance" option for the product of CRM, the "Enhancement Package Installation" option is missing. The Maintenance Optimizer works well for other products, such as Netweaver and ERP 6.0.
Can someone help me? Do I need to apply some notes?
    Thanks,
    Min

    Hello,
It looks like either your company has not enrolled for the Ramp Up of CRM 7 EHP1.
If your company is indeed in the Ramp Up, please check in SCPR20 if these BC sets are activated in the listed sequence:
    SOLMAN40_MOPZ_TTYP_SLMO_000
    SOLMAN40_MOPZ_001
    SOLMAN40_MOPZ_SP18
If one of them has no activation logs or if the date and time of the third one is earlier than the first in the list, then the Maintenance Optimizer BC sets need to be reactivated.
    Best regards,

  • How do I remove the ZoneAlarm toolbar? (It's currently disabled, but there's no "Remove" option.)

I'm running FF9 beta in Windows XP -- the ZoneAlarm security toolbar (which I never wanted but was somehow installed anyway) shows up in the extension list as disabled due to incompatibility with Firefox version 9. I'd prefer to just remove the toolbar/addon entirely, but there's no "Remove" option. How do I get rid of it?
    Thanks.

ZoneAlarm version 10.1.079.000 is compatible with Firefox 9 (and is not compatible with any other Firefox version) --- very strange that they have made the last few ZoneAlarm versions each compatible with only one version of Firefox.
    *See --> http://forums.zonelabs.com/index.php
The toolbar unfortunately installs even when un-checked during the install of ZoneAlarm. There are several postings on their forum about that issue. There is also a plugin related to ZoneAlarm that installs, '''''npFFApi'''''. Search the Zone Alarm forum or ask questions about all of this on their forum.

  • Does the Repair Database Option Remove Duplicates?

My main question is does the repair database option also delete some duplicates? I ask because I recently had an issue with importing some duplicates. Before tackling the process of removing the dups, I decided to go ahead and repair the database since I imported a bunch of files and wanted to make sure everything was working correctly. After the repair database completed, I noticed that I had about 2k fewer images in my database. Luckily I had backed it up before I ran the repair. I opened up the backup and so far all I see missing are some of the dups. I spot checked at least 10 different projects and all the original masters seem to be there.
I wasn't aware that repair would actually remove files. I wish it would have removed all of them but I still kind of find this to be weird as that was an unexpected function. What do you guys think?

Neither  of the first aid options, repair or rebuild, intentionally target duplicates. Any files removed by either of those procedures were removed because of some inconsistency in the database.
After either of those run you might see a new project in your library named Recovered. This contains any orphaned image files, files for which Aperture could not place in a project.

If you use the HDD recovery to reinstall Windows, your whole computer will not be formatted. Only the first partition will be deleted and thats all. Check the Toshiba document how the HDD recovery option works.

  • I think I chose the wrong Installation Option - Now what???

I installed Leopard right when it came out and love the new OS. But, at the time I did not know what the various installation options meant or implicated. So, I chose the first/default "Upgrade OSX" option.
Now, I have not been having any specific problems, but I think my computer should be faster when loading certain apps and toggling around between spaces, dashboard, and multitasking. The more I read about the installation options, I feel that my mac would run better if I reinstalled Leopard using another installation option, like Archive and Install.
Is this a true concern? Should I reinstall using another option to operate at full potential? How do I go about doing that... same as before? Any help or suggestions is appreciated.
    Phil

    Hi Phil Mutz;
So far I have used Upgrade to install Leopard on five Macs, two of my own and three for friends. So far all of them are all operating just as they were with Tiger. From my experiences with Leopard, I suspect that your problem is elsewhere on your system rather then how you installed Leopard.
