Is there a shortcut to switch F keys from default utilities to traditional function keys?

Question

So as most of us certainly know, latter-day OS X default has the F-keys programmed to handy shortcuts like volume and screen controls, dashboard toggle, etc. There are a few programs I use that require switching to the more traditional function key format, and I was trying to figure out if there was a way to streamline that process so I didn't have to go into System Preferences/Keyboard then check or uncheck the appropriate button every single time. If there isn't, I would submit to Apple that it would probably be easy and definitely awesome if they could program a fn-lock function (like hitting option-⌘-fn or someting like that) to swap key configurations. But maybe there's a way to do that already? Or a way to script a macro or something?
Granted, going into system preferences to check that one checkbox isn't hard, it's just a pain to have to constantly do and undo.

The following script should do what you are asking for:
tell application "System Preferences"
    reveal anchor "keyboardTab" of pane id "com.apple.preference.keyboard"
    tell application "System Events"
        tell process "System Preferences"
            click checkbox 1 of tab group 1 of window "Keyboard"
        end tell
    end tell
end tell
Using FastScripts (free for 10 keyboard shortcuts), you could even assing a shortcut to the above script.
