Is there a track changes function in Pages?

I need to edit written work sent to me and also to suggest changes. I currently use Word to do this. I've recently begun working on a retina display and would prefer to edit on cleaner looking text, Word text now looking fuzzy with the improved display. Thanks!

I'm finding ample information in the Pages manual, which I've downloaded. Sorry for the bother. In my defense, the default for the discussions seems to be ask the question first, then show answers later.

  • How do you copy and paste track changes material in Pages from one point in a document to another and keep both the old text along with the track changed thus far in the new pasted location?

Depending on whether track changes is on/paused, Pages thinks the pasted material is either all new and thus highlights it as a big track change or just copies the old material along with the edits as plain text so that I cannot see my track changes. I need to be able to copy and paste in the same document and still be able to see the older text along with the changes to certain sections thus far. Is this possible? I need a step-by-step "talk to me like I'm five" instructional if what I would like can be done.
    Thanks for any help!

    What version of Pages?
    What OS, iOS or OSX?
Are you sure you have the Table selected and not a cell or just contents?

  • Track changes causing #of pages in document to fluctuate wildly

Hello! I'm running Pages 5.5.2 on an almost-brand-new Macbook Pro running OS 10.10.1.
I've been working on a document for a long time with no problems (well, a bit of that lovely pages-5-lag), and tracking changes and converting to word and sending it off and getting it back and so on.
Just recently, it's freaked out. If I keep track changes on (it's got 100+ changes and comments, but nothing too crazy) the document only displays 4 pages (of 18). If I edit something or scroll down, more pages appear and then disappear again within a second, first dropping down to just the first 2 pages and then settling back to the first 4. If I turn track changes off (and accept/reject all changes) the problem stops.
It's making it impossible to work. Any advice would be hugely, massively appreciated.
    Cheers
    Matthew

    Hi Matthew,
Pages is not a Word Clone. Exporting and importing between Pages and Word will build up glitches. If you are working with a Word user, it is best that you use Word for Mac or or a free look-alike such as LibreOffice.

  • Is there a simple "Save" function in pages?

Hi. After opening up a previously saved (.doc) document and written a few more paragraphs, is there an option to simply click save without having to go through the "save as" or "export" process again? Is there a function similar to Word's "Save"?
    Thanks and much appreciated.

    Hi. Yep thanks for that.
I know command + S is automatic save if you were saving the document as a iWorks document. But command + S does not automatically save if the format is a doc. Does that question make sense?

  • Is there an alpha order function in Pages for iPad?

I have a folder inside Pages for iPad which has about 20 docs inside it.  I would like to put these files in alpha order by their title.  Is that possible?  If not, can I manually sort the files inside the folder?  I can get the files to move, but I can't get the file to hold it's new position.  Thanks for your help. Jo

Go to Settings > General > Keyboard and turn Enable Caps Lock to On. When Enable Caps lock is On then double-tapping the shift key will lock it down (it turns all blue). YOU CAN THEN TYPE ALL CAPS,

  • How do I change the font color for track changes in pages?

I am using the "track changes" function to edit a document in pages, and would like to change the edited text from pale yellow green to a color I can actually see.  How do I do this?

    Hello Zoolie,
That is an easy thing to do. Go to the drop down menu View > Comments and Changes > Author Color and then just select the color that you want and you will be good to go. Take a look at the article below for more information if needed.

  • Switching: Seeing "track changes" from MS Word

I know Pages does not have a track changes function as in MS Word. I also know of the comments function in Pages, which I prefer anyway.
But when you use Pages, can you see text marked with track changes in a Word document?
A friend of mine put in an effort to help me edit something I have written. I use Pages, he uses Word, so I exported my doc to Word and sent to him. He edited it using track changes and sent it back to me (still as a Word doc). Problem is, in Pages I can't see what changes he has made, or comments inserted in Word.
Is there something I can do to make Pages display what you would see if you were using Word?
I don't want to use any Microsoft products...

Thanks. That is exactly the situation, I can see the new text but no way to see what it used to be, or even that a change has been made. So it is real hard work to go through and check for places where changes might have been made. If I could at least get a mark in the margin to identify a site where something has changed it would help a lot, but I have found no way to do that in Pages.
I have OpenOffice, but I just find that Pages is a lot nicer and I don't want to start using that just for this. Anyway I can't figure out how to get OpenOffice to show where changes have been made either. Can't see using a multitude of different programs for text editing...
The best I have come up with is to get my friend to send me his MSWord file as a .pdf, so I can at least see where the changes are and make them myself in my original Pages document.
But I would rather there was a way to get Pages to do what I need...

  • Word for iPad - Does Track Changes Work?

I use MS Office at work and need to edit lots of documents.  I am considering biting the bullet and getting an Office 365 Subscription so I can use the new Office for iPad apps. (I know that they are 3 separate apps, it's just easier to say it this way)
I do need to know if the Track Changes function works in the iPad version even close to how it works on the Desktop version of Word.  Has anyone checked this out?  Have you tried to send a document with track changes turned on back and forth between a couple of people to see what happens when the doc is opened and closed by different people and sent via email.
I just don't want to waste my money trying to get the one feature I really need.

OK I shelled out the hundred bucks for the annual subscription to Office 365 (And then two days later found it for $79 at Office Depot, sheesh!).
So far it seems to be worth the money if you need to edit or create documents on your iPad.  If you only need to read docs, spreadsheets or review PowerPoints, just get the free versions and stick with them.
The nice thing about the annual subscription is that we can put Office on 5 computers AND 5 tablets.  And it is supposed to always be up to date.  So I now have access to Office 2013 pretty much everywhere I go.  And with the free (somewhat crippled I will admit) versions of the Office apps on OneDrive on the web, I am in business as long as I can connect to the internet.
I have tried all the apps on my iPad and find them to be very well executed and easy to use.  Track changes works just like on my desktop PC so that made it worth it for my wife who uses it all the time when reviewing dissertations for her students.  And it works for me when I am editing files with my coworkers.
If you don't mind having to pay the annual subscription fee and you need to edit docs on the run and you don't want to have to drag a full sized laptop around with your, I would recommend getting the apps and paying the fee to activate Office 365.
The only con I have run across so far is that the Save As option to save a document to your iPad so you can work on it between internet connections is less than intuitive. You have to make a copy, not surprising, but the option to do this is called Duplicate rather than a simple and easy to understand, Save As.

  • Why can't I see Tracked Changes in InDesign?

My colleagues using InCopy are using Track Changes and Notes. I can see their Notes in InDesign, but not the Tracked Changes. Am i forced ito InCopy to view these changes?

    Hi,
Just like Bob says, InCopy adds to the editorial "work flow" in a one-way-lane way in your case. The CtrlChanges plug-in gives you the ability to see changes in layoutview for both InDesign and InCopy. Depending on what version of CtrlChanges one chooses, the plug-in gives you the ability to accept or reject changes in InDesign or InCopy. The track changes function is attached to the document and not in anyway InCopy specific. This means that if you start the track changes process in the document, that document can be edited by someone that does not have CtrlChanges and their changes will be seen when in the document.
So you do not need InCopy to reach your goal. Just a little help from a plug-in :-)

  • Is there a way to retain the track changes from a Microsoft Word document when working on a IPAD word processing App?

I am going on a work trip and want to be able to collaborate with my colleagues, almost all of whom will be using Microsoft Word on Microsoft Windows laptops and I want to draft and collaborate on documents.  The approach we always take to such collaboration is to use the track changes feature in Microsoft Word that shows changes and who made the changes. As best I could tell apples Pages software ignores the notations added by the track changes features and accepts all changes to the document making it difficult to see what changes were made and by whom.
I would appreciate any suggestions to address this challenge.

I noted from some similar topics that Pages seems to support track changes but that while it reflects deletions made in Microsoft Word, it does not appear to show them -- is there a way to fix this problem?

  • How can I export comments and tracked changes from Pages to Word?

I just purchased Pages and tried to export a couple pages of my document to Microsoft Word so I could send them for review to a client who does not have Pages; however, when I copy-pasted into Word, none of the comments or tracked changes showed up in the doc., only the finished product. I've tried updating my software, but that hasn't worked. Is there a way to fix this?

Here is what the Pages User Guide says:
" Exporting Pages Documents to Other File Formats
If you want to share your Pages documents with those who aren’t using the latest version of Pages, you can export your document to file formats that they may be able to use on their computers or other devices:
    • PDF: You can view PDF files in iBooks, and view or print them in Preview and Safari. You can edit them with a PDF application. Fonts used in the Pages document are preserved in the PDF file.
Hyperlinks in your Pages document are exported to the PDF file. Hyperlinks are also created in the PDF file for table of contents entries, footnotes and endnotes, webpages, email addresses, and bookmarks.
    • Microsoft Word: You can open and edit Microsoft Word files in Microsoft Word on a computer running Mac OS X or Windows.
Because of text layout differences between Microsoft Word and Pages, an exported Word document may contain a different number of pages than its Pages counterpart. You may notice other differences, as well, for example, table layouts and some special typographic features may not be identical. Some graphics (particularly those using transparency) may not display as well. Charts created in Pages appear as MS Graph objects, which you can edit in Microsoft Word.
    • RTF: You can open and edit RTF files in many different word processors. RTF files retain most of the text formatting and graphics.
    • Plain text: You can open and edit plain text files in many text editing applications, such as TextEdit. Exporting to plain text removes all document and text formatting, and images aren’t exported. ePub: You can open ePub files for reading in the iBooks application on an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch, or in any ePub file reader. After you export your document to ePub format, you must transfer it to your device to read it in iBooks. To learn more about optimizing a document for ePub format, exporting it, and transferring it to your device, see “Creating an ePub Document to Read in iBooks” on page 257.
If your Pages document is password-protected, the password-protection is removed from the new file that's created upon export. However, if you export to the PDF file format, you can apply a new password at the time of export. "

  • Still no "track changes" in Pages?

I'm seriously considering switching to Mac and would like to leave MS completely behind. So I'm doing my research on potential problems I will encounter.
As I understand it, "track changes" is not available in Pages. Is this correct? I really need this functionality for working with someone who translates my documents into another language.
    Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions Ron
Pages 2 has a comment feature, allowing you to attach notes to text. Most home/educational/small office users (the target audience for Pages) probably doesn't need more than that.

  • How to change the language of the reading function in Pages 5.0 (to French in my case) ?

I'm French and in the new Pages 5.0 there is a reading function (mac reads my document) but the issue is this function uses an English conception of the word and spelling, it changes my text and makes it uncomprehensible.
    Can someone help me ?

If you are talking about text to speech, I think you have to go to system preferences/speech and make sure the system voice is set to a French one.

  • Unable to email Pages 5.0 doc with track changes

In Safari, when trying to attach a Pages doc (Pages 5.0 in Mavericks) with track changes in gmail I get an "Attachment failed" error. In Chrome, I'm able to attach and send the file, but the person I've sent it to is unable to open it. Is anyone experiencing anything similar and/or has discovered a fix?
    Thanks!

No, they get an error when they try to open it, and they do have the same version of Pages. Yes, I did end up having to export it as a temporary solution, and I don't think the track changes stayed. I was wondering if not being able to send Pages files with track changes is a common issue with Pages 5.0. If you try emailing a Pages 5.0 file with track changes, are the recipients able to open it with track changes in Pages?
