Is there a way change color of dock

One MBpro has a nice gray.  The other has a banana yellow that I would like to change.  Is the OS basing color on the desktop picture?

You can change the color of the dock to a dark theme by going to System preferences > General.
Otherwise, you can go to System Preferences > Accessibility > Display and change the settings there.
The dock, when transparency is on (by default), will simply take the colours of whatever is running under the dock and kind of "frost" it. You don't really get to choose colours for your dock.

  • Is there a way to place the Dock on the bottom of a secondary monitor?

I use my iMac as primary monitor and a secondary display on the right. Is there a way to place the dock on the bottom of the secondary monitor(in a way that the display arrangment actually match the monitor position on my desk)?
I want something like this, with the red marker as the dock(the display arrangment match how the monitors are in my desk):
The solution I'm working with is:
I could turn the monitor attached to the iMac as primary(and set the dock there), but I got some problems with programs opening in wrong positions all the time and some issues with full screen programs as well(also I think the iMac didn't handle well setting the primary display in another monitor).
If there isn't a way to do it in Mountain Lion, will Maverick do any better?

Don't know of a way to get the Dock on the top.
But, to keep it out of the way but available, in the Dock prefs pane in System Preferences you can set it to "automatically hide and show". Choosing that setting means the Dock will normally be hidden; to gain access to it, all you need do is brush the bottom of the screen (or the side you have Doc set to) with the cursor, and it will appear, staying visible only until you move the cursor away.
You can also use the keyboard combo Command-Option-D to invoke/revoke Dock Hiding, which in effect means you can use that keyboard command to toggle the Dock's visibility.

  • Is there a way to color events in ical?

is there a way to color events in ical?
is there a way to have background color for all day events?

I think the only way to do it is to create a "New Calendar". I have two "calendars" in iCal, one for work and one for personnal, they come up in different colors. You could create a "calendar" grouping specifically for all day events and it would have a different color option.

No, you'll need an external editor for the job:
In order of price here are some suggestions:
    Seashore (free)
    The Gimp (free)
    Graphic Coverter ($45 approx)
    Acorn ($50 approx)
    Pixelmator ($50 approx)
    Photoshop Elements ($75 approx)
There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate. You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

  • Is there a way to move the dock from screen to screen?

    Hi
I have a Macbook pro 17 inch that is connected to my newly purchased 24 inch LED display.
Is there a way to have the dock with icons either at the bottom of the macbook pro or at the bottom of the LED display. If it can be moved from one to the other, please offer any suggestions. Thanks.

In the "Arrangement" tab of "Displays" system preference, drag the menu bar to the other display.

We have several iphones in our household.  An iphone 3, two iphone 3S and two iphone 4S.  Our teenage daughter keeps snatching everyone's charger and then claims innocence.  Funny thing, everyone's chargers are all gone and she's the only one who has one left.  We've never caught her red-handed, but we know without a doubt she's the little thief in the house.  Is there any way to match the dock and USB to the iphone it goes with?

I recently updated to OSX 10.9.5 on my iMac.  Is there any way to change the background color of the dock?  Thanks.

There's an open source  app, cDock, that can make changes to the dock. I have mine totally transparent.  These are the themes you can use with it:
It also adds the colored icons to the Finder's sidebar. I've had no problems with it with Yosemite.

Thanks Rob for been so quick in responding.
I have 3 questions for you:
Running a server under root is a huge security hole.My Question: 1) what are the probable security issues while runninga server under
    root ?
are these security issues external(from outside world) or internal(internally
    within a company) ?
Iam basically curious to know external threats.
The problem is the root user can do anything. So if someone finds a
security hole in your server, then they have complete control of your
    system.
The usual reason people want to do this is so they can bind to a port
    <
1024. ie they want their web server to listen to 80.My Question: 2) What is the harm in using port 80 for webserver andwhy do the
people wanted to bind to a port < 1024 ?
People normally use 80 for web servers because that's the well-known
    port.
Personally I would not recommend that you go that route. I would
recommend that you start the server as a very unprivileged user andbind
it to some port (say 7001).
Most firewalls support redirecting ports. Your firewall can redirect
    80
on the external net to 7001 on the internal net. That's the solution
    I
would recommend. My Question: 3) Suppose iam having a cluster of 2 Managed servers runningon port
7070. And Iam having a Iplanet server working as a Webserver that basicallyproxies
requests to this cluster. Then what is the best approach that i shouldfollow
in this context.....to be honest with you ....i still couldnot understandwhat
does "binding" the webserver port to a managed server in weblogic mean.
I would have your firewall redirect 80 to whatever port Iplanet is
listening on and then have iplanet proxy to WLS.
Do not run your WLS servers as root.
    -- Rob
Iam sorry for asking these "silly" questions(in your opinion) ...butiam a bit
    confused.
    thanks, sangita

There is a set uid option in WLS where you start the server as root
    and
then after it binds to the low port, it will switch to another userthat
    you specify.

I would not recommend that you start WLS as root on your production

  • Is there a way to place the Dock on the top?

    Hi there,
Back in the days of 10.4, "defaults write com.apple.Dock orientation top" (in Terminal) or Onyx for that matter, were able to place the Dock on the top.  Is there a way to accomplish this in Snow Leopard?  Because of my workstyle, the Dock gets in the way quite frequently.  Besides, I use 3rd party app launchers.
Many thanks for your feedback and have a good one,
    Jacobo

  • HT1222 Is there a way change settings, i.e. color of folders, in iOS 7 to make it less childlike looking?

In what world is this update beautiful?  ugly.  some good additions are great, but the interface is far from beautiful, hard to read, annoying and with a very childlike look. Can you give us options to put it back to look like it did prior to 7 update?  PLEASE? If Windows (ugh) can do it, why can't Apple? The majority of iPhone users I've talked too have the same opinion, that this update while has good additions, looks like a 5 year olds phone now.

Thanks mabaeyens, themes is what I was talking about. You answered my question.
This is a forum correct? Aren't we allowed to ask questions of our "fellow" users paulcb?  I get answers here not at Apple/feedback. And I already submitted feedback there, with no response.
You rarely will get any response from posting feedback.  Its just that is the venue if you want your suggestions or ideas to actually reach the various development teams at Apple (they do not sit around pouring through posts here obviously).

  • Is there a way to color layers and sub layers in Fireworks?

    Hello all,
I'm trying to find a way to colorize the layers and sub layers in the layer panel in Fireworks CS5.5, like you can in Photoshop. I work in a small web design company doing GUI design and when I pass the files on to the developers they are asking for easier ways to sort the content of various layers and sublayers at a glance. In Photoshop you can apply a color to a layer or group in the layrs panel and that works great for an internal labeling scheme. Is there anything like this built into Fireworks or are there any add-ons from a 3rd party etc. that would allow this? It wold save a lot of trouble and time for us. I can't find anything anywhere about it, but it may be that my search terminology is poor. I'm not sure how you would word a search for this kind of feature. I keep getting information about applying colors to shapes etc rather than colorzing the labeling of layers panel itself.
Thanks in advance for any help or information!

    Thanks for the information,
I was relatively certain there wasn't a native way to do this. I was hoping maybe someone had created a plug-in but as you say, I could see where it would be very difficult to modify the internal workings of the software like that.
I went ahead and put in a feature request per the link you provided... maybe someday that will do some good haha! I use sublayers and pages currently and have on a few occasions used states. I have a few options that are open to me if it were just me doing the work but I work with a couple developers and they know how to get around in Fireworks enough to make a slice and select needed objetcs (as long as I group complex shapes and mult-tier effects) but that is about all they do and are willing to know about "design" software lol! They like the sublayers because I think it's similar in behavior to the database and coding software they use. I have convinced them of the beauty of pages for alternate colors and versions of the same site but that is about as far as they are willing to go right now.
They want to mainly be able to quickly turn off specific text and certain effect layers as needed so they can sort slicing faster and see where the desired objects and layers are at a glance. We've been using sub layers to break things up between these components but they aren't as happy with that because it still means often having to read the names on the layers palette and when you have an extensive project with many items in the layers panel, it gets hard to read at times. It also addes even more folders to sort through becuase of the high level of specicifity. It's not a deal breaker, just a way to speed up the workflow and keep tension down haha! The onion method sounds interesting but I'll have to demo it first and see how easy it is to fool with hiding various combinations... you know how "coders" can be sometimes
Thanks for the input! Here's to hoping Adobe thinks this feature is worth it in the future! Can't see where it would be terribly difficult to add!

I have a 5.1 Home theater and it has 2 Digital Audio imputs and the standard Red and White.  I want to listen to my music but i lost the dock that came with it.  Is there a cable that would go straigt into the digital audio input and into my iphone to give me 5.1 channels? Hi!
Both questions have asked many times. Have a look at older threads.

  • Is there any way to have a dock on both the bottom and side of your desktop?

I was just looking to organize my dock a little better and wanted to run a dock along the side of my desktop as well as along the bottom where I normally have it. Is that possible in any way?

    Sorry, no.
Dock can be only positioned at bottom or on the side left or right.
    Best.

  • Is there a way to make more Dock Separators?

Hi, I like to keep my dock organized and I was wondering whether or not I can add more separators like the one that separates the trash can from the other applications.

There are 3rd part apps that can, I don't recommend them because too often they end up on the forum asking how to get their old dock back.
