Is there an efficient wrapper class for reading binary data in cocoa/iPhone

Hi,
I need to read a data from a binary file in my iPhone application. What is the best way to do it? Is there an efficient cocoa wrapper class for this purpose?
Thanks,
Nava

A char is a 16-bit unsigned value - depending on what you want, it may help.
I don't understand your reluctance to mask off the upper 16 bits of an integer; all it requires is a single bitwise 'and' statement. I challenge you to measure the impact of such a statement on your program.

  • How do I create Wrapper class for Message Box?

    I want to create Wrapper class for Message Box class in my project. I am using Telerik Testing FrameWork. In that message box was not recognized in unit testing thats y i want to create wrapper class, for creating the
    instance for that mesage box.

    A wrapper class is simply a class that for example wraps another object or a subset of its methods. You could just create a class that exposes the same methods as the MessageBox and uses the MessageBox internally.
    If you define an interface and program against this in your application, you could replace your wrapper object with another object that implements the same interface when you are doing the unit tests. Something like this:
    public interface IMessageBoxWrapper
    System.Windows.Forms.DialogResult Show(string text, string caption);
    public class MessageBoxWrapper
    public System.Windows.Forms.DialogResult Show(string text, string caption)
    return System.Windows.Forms.MessageBox.Show(text, caption);
    public class MockMessageBoxWrapper
    public System.Windows.Forms.DialogResult Show(string text, string caption)
    return System.Windows.Forms.DialogResult.OK;
    private readonly IMessageBoxWrapper _mbw;
    public Form1(IMessageBoxWrapper mbw)
    InitializeComponent();
    _mbw = mbw;
    private void SomeMethod()
    _mbw.Show("...", "...");
    Hope that helps.

  • Wrapper class for HashMap

    Why people write Wrapper class for HashMap? Why not directly use the HashMap?

    I thought that the term wrapper class is generally
    used to signify one class having an instance of
    another class inside it. And not one class
    deriving from another.
    But thats just me.I think that is just you. :)
    I consider "wrapping" as having a subset of the functionality of another class. This could be containing or extending, in my opinion.
    Consider:
    // only partially functional vector for JButtons...
    // class containing Vector
    public class JButtonVector
      Vector vec = new Vector();
      public void add(JButton button)
        vec.add(button);
      public JButton get(int index)
        if(index >= vec.size() || index < 0)
          throw new IllegalArgumentException(...);
        return (JButton)vec.get(index);
    // class extending Vector
    class JButtonVector2 extends Vector
      public void add(JButton but)
        super.add(but);
      public JButton get(int index)
        return (JButton)(super.get(index));
    }Problem with the second class is that it also allows adding of regular Objects. That might not be desirable (in this case, it is definitely not).

  • Is there a Java utility class to help with data management in a desktop UI?

    Is there a Java utility class to help with data management in a desktop UI?
    I am writing a UI to configure a network device that will be connected to the serial port of the computer while it is being configured. There is no web server or database for my application. The UI has a large number of fields (50+) spread across 16 tabs. I will write the UI in Java FX. It should run inside the browser when launched, and issue commands to the network device through the serial port. A UI has several input fields spread across tabs and one single Submit button. If a field is edited, and the submit button clicked, it issues a command and sends the new datum to the device, retrieves current value and any errors. so if input field has bad data, it is indicated for example, the field has a red border.
    Is there a standard design pattern or Java utility class to accomplish the frequently encountered, 'generic' parts of this scenario? lazy loading, submitting only what fields changed, displaying what fields have errors etc. (I dont want to reinvent the wheel if it is already there). Otherwise I can write such a class and share it back here if it is useful.

  • Encoding problem while reading binary data from MQ-series

    Dear all,
    we are running on 7.0 and we have an encoding problem while reading binary data from MQ-series. Because we are getting flat strings from queue we use module "Plain2ML" (MessageTransformBean) for wrapping xml-elements around the incoming data.
    The MQ-Series-Server is using CCSID 850, which we configured in connection parameters in communication channel (both parameters for Queuemanager CCSID and also CCSID of target).If there are special characters in the message (which HEX-values differ from codepage to codepage) we get errors in our adapter while executing, please see stack-trace for further analysis below.
    It seems to us that
    1. method ByteToCharUTF8.convert() expects UTF-8 in binary data
    2. Both CCSID parameters are not used anyway in JMS-adapter
    How can we solve this problem without changing anything on MQ-site?
    Here is the stack-trace:

    Kind regards, Stefan

    Hi Stefan,
    for the first MTB now we are using only one parameter: Transform.ContentType = text/plain;charset="ISO-8859-1"
    The second MTB, which does the XML-Wrapping, is configured like this:
    Transform.Class = com.sap.aii.messaging.adapter.Conversion
    Transform.ContentType = application/xml
    xml.conversionType = SimplePlain2XML
    xml.fieldNames = value
    xml.fieldSeparator = §%zulu§%
    xml.processFieldNames = fromConfiguration
    xml.structureTitle = payload
    Both CCSID configuration parameters from the "Source"-Tab we've set to 850.
    Now, we don't get an error anymore - sun.io.malformedInputException - , but, unfortunately, now special character conversion succeeded (we need an "ß" and we get an ISO-HEX-E1 -> á).  E1 is (different from ISO) an "ß" in 850.
    Any ideas?

  • Best practice for putting binary data on the NMR

    Hi,
    We're creating a component that will consume messages off the NMR, encode them, and subsequently put them back on the NMR. What's the best practice for sending binary data over the NMR?
    1. setContent()?
    2. addAttachment()?
    3. setProperty()?
    If NormailzedMessage.setContent() is the desired approach, then how can you accomplish that?
    Thanks,
    Bruce

    setContent() is used only for XML messages. The recommended way to accommodate binary data is to use addAttachment().

  • Using cache for read only data

    In my application I have to display some read only data (in number of drop down present on several portlets)
    this data might be driven from the database or from some XML/property file.Not decided yet.
    for example : Country /state/City/Zip code etc..
    Kindly let me know how can I implement the same in Weblogic Portal 10.0.
    Do I have to use some third party caching mechanism like Hibernate cache for this
    or
    Weblogic portal do support caching ??
    Please suggest the all possible soultions to implement this.

    Cache cache = CacheFactory.getCache("yourCache"); //any name can be passed, and you can create as many as you want , perhaps by functionality, perhaps by size etc. If you want to configure statically you must use this name in the xml file. If you define it in the xml file , you can administer the cache from Portal Admin
    cache.put("key","value");
    cache.get("key");
    There are other advanced things you can do like Time To live / flushing / auto reload the cache which is all described in the javadoc

  • Which class is better for readin binary data?

    Recently I have faced a problem of choosing a proper class from java.io package (my goal is to use standard java.io package). So I had to find an alias of BufferedReader but designed specifically for reading raw binary data. I wonder what could you advice me on that?

    You haven't really supplied enough information about what you're reading to know whether this approach is good or not. The DataInputStream is exactly what you want if the binary file was created using a DataOutputStream, but if not, then it's probably not going to work.
    If you try it and it works, then great. If it doesn't work, then post more details about what kind of file you're trying to read and what you're trying to do with it.

    Hi Desiree,
    Thanks, worked for me too.
    Only in my case, when I moved the file, the sld data provider service did not start at all after reboot of the instance.
    Also, the sap.com/tcsldwd~main application refused to start.
    I then copied the file back, this time maintaining an entry in both locations and reboot the instance. Everything started working after I reboot the instance. The error also disappeared and I was able to change the SLDuser password.
    Thanks

    Actually I've seen different flavors depending on the originator of the file. The Touchstone File Specification data line formatting rule just says that individual entries are separated by whitespace. HP-ADS separates the values with multiple space characters, the N5230A and C uses a single space character, the E5071C uses a single tab character. I usually replace multiple spaces or tabs with a single tab before processing the data.

    That's the truth.  I don't know why I said "tab" because I've seen different formats, too.  The point I wanted to make was that ultimeately it's just a parsable text file.
