Is this allowed?

CreationDate is a VARCHAR2(30) in the Table.
So I need to Convert it to a Date.
SELECT TO_DATE(CreationDate, 'DD/MM/YYYY') AS "CreationDate"
FROM Table
However, I get an error of "Literal does not match format string"

When you use TO_DATE function with the format specification as second parameter, you are telling Oracle that the value stored in the varchar2 field is actually indeed in that format.
if the value stored in that varchar2 field is NOT in the format that you specified, you will get surprises:
SQL> select to_date('01-2001', 'mm/dd/yyyy') from dual ;
select to_date('01-2001', 'mm/dd/yyyy') from dual
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01861: literal does not match format string
SQL> select to_date('01-2001', 'mm-yyyy') from dual ;
TO_DATE('01
01-Jan-2001
1 row selected.
SQL>Make sure that the format you use with the to_date function matches with the format of the date stored in your varchar2 field.
Also, was there a real need to have a date stored in a varchar2 field in first place?

  • Installing windows on macbook pro without bootcamp. Will this allow for switchable graphics?

Hi everyone, I was thinking of buying a new Macbook Pro Retina 15 Inch with the discrete nvidia graphics card inbuilt with it.
I love windows and I am planning on running windows 7/8 on the macbook pro as my primary OS (because of advantages of gaming and being familarized with windows os), however I have heard the issue of running windows on bootcamp severally drains battery life as apple does not allow you to switch the nvidia graphics to the integrated graphics. Is this true? I have heard that running windows 7/8 on bootcamp allows for only around 3:30 hours of battery life, whilst OSX allows for 8+ since it uses the integrated graphics primarily when not running GPU demanding applications.
I am wondering if you can install windows 7 without bootcamp which will wipe apple OS from the laptop completely. Will this allow for the laptop to do switable graphics without problems allowing the laptop to save much needed battery life?
    Thanks in advance.
    Michael

Sorry it seems to have taken so long for you to get an answer on this question!
Your last post was mostly right... It IS a bad idea to go that route!
While it's technically POSSIBLE to get Windows in place without OSX, it's a MAJOR technical hassle and you need to jump through several hoops to get to that point.
In addition to the hassle required, having an OSX partition can be incredibly useful at times - I've had my Windows system break several times in the past where the automated (and even manual) startup-repair process failed to get Windows booting again, but a short boot into OSX later, I have the problem resolved (via OSX) and am able to get back into Windows.
Finally, you need to be aware that the graphics card situation isn't because of the presence of OSX. Just because you get rid of MacOS doesn't mean you suddenly will be able to use either graphics card! The limitation comes into play with the hardware drivers necessary to get all your hardware working in Windows - they just don't have the facility to switch graphics cards built into them.
I'm afraid you're stuck with the NVidia card when using Windows, one way or another!
Bootcamp is a prerequisite BTW. Without it you won't be able to get Windows installed at all (at least not without MAJOR stumbling block, again!), and again, the graphics card limitation isn't due to OSX or Bootcamp.
Also, battery life... Yes. You'll have significantly less in Windows, and this isn't entirely because of the graphics card situation either. MacOS is just built so well, with the limited hardware used by Apple in mind, that power-management when using OSX os significantly better! The legendary battery life of Apple systems is actually primarily due to the operating system, not the batteries themselves!
As a helpful indication: On my 2009 17" MBP I get about 7 hours on the integrated chip in OSX (8 is pusing it, but is possible sometimes); about 5 hours in OSX when using the NVidia; and about 3 and a half when I'm in Windows.
Hope this all helps you. If you have any further questions feel free!
Apologies for the scattered approach to answering your posts - it's LATE where I am and I"m kinda rushing through things... :-)

  • How transfer a download OS X Lion from wife's to my Mac? Also, is this allowed?

How do I transfer and download OS X Lion from wife's Mac to my Mac? Also, is this allowed ( I believe one or more additional downloads are allowed in house?
Should I just spend the $30 and have my own OS?
    Thank you,

If you and your wife are using the same App Store account, you should be able to re-download the Lion installer on your computer from the App Store.
No need to buy it again.

I found this hack in the disable proxies section of system preferences 'networking'  *.local,169 254/16
after finding out all my system security was deactivated i then beefed up my system, firewall, filevault & ran several virus checks.
Then a message was displayed frequently 'someone else is using your IP address.....i went to my network provider who supplied me witha new sim free of charge to my 'wireless cube' this seems to have stopped the message.
I have opened a new mail account for important emails.
I have checked 'sharing' nothing was ticked in the boxes but i did find this *my name's Macbook.local* which i have just changed back to *myname'sMacbook*
    what does all this allow?

Probably not a hack. See this thread:

I just started using home sharing.  Does this allow you to share imported cd's or only purchased songs?

We are able to share imported CDs.  In fact I got a USB record player so all my vinyl albums are being shared even though my 16 year old son doesn't seem too excited for my music :-)

I currently use Aperture. I understand Adobe is developing a conversion to Lightroom. I currently store all my photos on an external RAID server and I want to continue to do so. Is this allowed with Creative Cloud?

So, what if I (1) connected an external hard drive to my wi-fi router so I could remote access pics w/a network connection-- this way even my wife's macbook could connect to it, creating our own cloud.
A strong warning: If you're trying to edit the Library (that is, make albums, move photos around, keyword, make books or slideshows etc.) or edit individual photos in it via Wireless be very careful. Dropouts are a common fact of wireless networking, and should one occur while the app is writing to the database then your Library will be damaged. Simply, I would not do this with my Libraries.
Or (2) had a way to save the most recent 6mo on my locally and the rest on said external HD?
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
    3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
    Some Notes:
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using iPhoto Library Manager
how do you keep photos accessible in iPhoto when your HD is full?
Move the Library to an external disk -  see above.
Do you just switch to Aperture and have multiple libraries?
Aperture uses as much space as iPhoto and both can do multiple libraries.

  • Is this allowed? License swapping

At work we have several workstations that we use depending on the kind of work we do - some PCs, some Macs. Our boss bought a single CS5 license to share between me and my colleague - she has a Mac, I use a PC workstation. Since neither of us needs to use CS5 for more than an hour a day (often even just an hour a week), it made no sense to buy two licenses, which according to our software provider, was not needed. They showed us to deactivate a copy and you could then activate it on the other computer without any hassle and without having to reinstall it.
Now, a few days back, there was a meeting concerning our pre-press department and some questions were asked and one was "is all software you have, legal?". For over 5 years, we've adopted a very strict policy of only installing legal software but it made me wonder if what we're doing really IS allowed? Can you have two installed versions of CS5 and only one of them active? Mind you, after you deactivate, CS5 will always give you a 30 day trial so in reality, we can work with both versions of CS5 at the same time if we wanted to (although that rarely happens) and at least once a month we switch. Is this allowed? Even though its a trial given by Adobe? Basically, we didn't do anything Adobe didn't let us do but we just need to be sure.

I don't see why Adobe wouldn't allow for sharing your licenses like that when almost every other big software packs for the graphics industry does.
I think your perception is colored by your work. This is not at all common - in my domain (3D animation and compositing), licenses are almost always platform specific or worse even tied to a specific computer with a license ID so they cannot even be rotated on the same set of computers unless they are "floating" licenses and those are more expensive than "node-locked" ones. No doubt that is very much the same for you - In a way you are essentially using floating licenses, but the cost for maintaining them is far higher than it might be for single seat licenses tied to a specific computer. And through our affiliation with some clients in the print industry I know that Kodak, Creo etc. can be just as rigid and refuse to even give you simple driver updates if you are not on their support plans, much less easily switch platforms for platesetting/ RIP software or other such stuff. In fact many times companies have more annual spending on such stuff to keep their machines running than upgrading their Adobe software. So in fairness, I don't think Adobe's policy of providing per-platform licenses at a reasonable price is not much different, it just may feel a bit more harsh because naturally paying a large sum at once is leaving a more obvious dent on teh bank account than dollars trickling off for maintenance fees every month...

  • Overlapping Number Ranges for GL Accounts - does this allow duplicates?

    Hi there,.
I am just-trying to understand GL numbering ranges.
If I create two GL account groups with overlapping number ranges, what (if anything), is stopping me from creating two GL accounts with identical numbers.
When l try to do this in fs00 I get a message telling me that the account already exists in the company code. Surely having the concept of an account group with overlapping number ranges implies that the account group forms part of the GL account's unique key and therefore allows duplicate GL account numbers.
Or does overlapping mean the ranges ovelap but the GL account numbers have to be unique?
    Confused
    Gerald.

    Hi,
Since a chart of accounts contains many different types of accounts, they can
be grouped into different account groups. Usually, one account group groups
accounts with the same tasks within the general ledger, for example, cash accounts,
material accounts, asset accounts, profit and loss statement accounts, and so on.
By assigning a number range to an account group, you can ensure that accounts
of the same type are within the same number range. Number intervals for G/L
    account master records can overlap.
You must enter the account group in the chart of accounts segment; it controls the
appearance of the company code segment of a G/L account. For example, for all
of your cash accounts, you want to be able to display all of the line items. In
Customizing, you therefore alter the field status for your “Cash Accounts” account
group to make “line item display” a required entry field.
    Thanks

  • Intermediary DMZ domain - Will this allow access whilst maintaining seperation?

    Hi
We have a client who has a requirement to link the domain of an acquired company whilst maintaining separation from the legacy environment. We have access to the legacy resources using legacy resource domain credentials but the customer wants to connect
to these resources using the user domain credentials.
The company has a large forest with several child domains, the users and workstations are hosted in one of these child domains.
The legacy/resource domain runs many services print/application/file from both the forest root and several of their child domains.
There is to be a DMZ between both domains and there are DNS/routing/firewall constraints which prevent a direct trust between the two at the moment.
The user domain is only permitted to have an external one-way (incoming trust) from one of the child domains.
With these constraints in mind would the introduction of an intermediary domain in the DMZ allow users in the user domain access to the resource domain as described below?
Groups are created in the DMZ domain which contain the user accounts from the users domain using the one-way trust
These groups in the DMZ domain are then added, where required, to the acl's of the resources in the resource domain.
Would the above allow a user in the user domain access to the legacy resources using the user credentials?
Any suggestions comments will be greatly appreciated, hopefully I have qualified the requirements and the constraints please ask if I have missed out some detail you need to clarify the scope of what I am trying to achieve.
    Thanks, Garry

    Thanks Gleb
Your answer does support what I thought may be the case as the external trust is non-transitive, wasn't sure if the 2 way forest trust between the resource domain and DMZ domain using group membership would allow access without authentication.
We have looked into creating a direct trust with a DC in the DMZ of the resource domain and due to a split DNS, address NATing, lack of reverse routing (all configured for other reasons and not something that can easily be undone) and reliance on root DFS
of the resource domain we experienced issues when trying to establish a trust in this fashion - hence the attempt to further separate the user and resource domains.
Also a forest trust is not permissible from the user domain due to company policies. The firewall rules are the least of our issues as this is well documented and has been configured before in the environment just highlighting another layer of complexity.
The users can currently access resources in the legacy domain however they need to authenticate with legacy credentials. The primary goal we are trying to achieve is provide a solution to allow access to these resources with the user domain credentials.
Any further suggestions would be welcome.
    Garry.

  • Consistantly charged twice for purchases in iTunes , why is this allowed?

Four instances total, and in each instance iTunes directed me to an updated TOS agreement. I checked the agreement, then navigated back to the store only to find being twiced charged for the same download.
Windows Vista, iTunes 8.1.1.10, fresh install...
Not once or twice, but four time now, why does this happen? why is there no warning box? Wouldn't be common sense to warn when thru either user error or software bug the same product is being purchased repeatedly?
Maybe some people want to pay twice for the same thing, but I imagine most would rather not be charged repeatedly for items.
I guess there is no way to remove these erroneous charges, since I can't find any sort of method of aborting the download.
This has happened in the past, and I've blown it off as a fluke. But now with a fresh install of the newest software, I can't make a single purchase without being charged twice.
A fresh reinstall and a brand new reformatted drive also.
Thank you for any insight you may have.

  • Looking at the permissions page for Firefox for Android, I see this: "This allows the application at any time to collect images the camera is seeing." Uh, WHY?

I've got concerns about granting access to an app which can snap pictures any time it wants. Why the hell would you do this?

Because of the [http://www.w3.org/TR/capture-api/ w3c Camera API]. The user needs to manually click on a button to access the camera, chooses a image from the camera and then choose to upload it. The camera is not accessed at any other time.

    Folks,
My point is selling book should be banned but yes if you want to share some document which you have prepared manually then
IS THERE A PLACE TO SHARE ON SDN ?
i think no.we cannot upload documents which we have prepared for any problem after a lot of R&D , i think we can save a lot of time by sharing the same instead
of posting them one by one.
Only sharing should happen on global level and not to particular id.
