Is this outofmemory error on series 40 phones?

Hi all,
I am trying to port my MIDLet application to series 40 phones. My application works fine with 7210MIDP SDK. However, when I play on the phones(6800, 7210, 6100), sometimes I could go through the application, sometimes after I go through a couple of screens then it is freezing. This freezing problem happens randomly, I can't predict when it is going to occure.
I am thinking it might be running out of memory heap because I have got lot of images. According to some postings in this forum, I have computed the heap size used by my images, it is 2bytes/pixel and total about 50KB for images only, and the official heap size for series 40 phones is 200KB . However, when I set heapsize in java wtk2.1 to be 100K and run my application, I get a "unable to run application" error message which is different from what I get on the phones.
Could running out of memory cause phone freezing problems?. I really appreciate any advice. Thanks!!!

Hi forum,
i would like to aska Q related to the same ISSUE thatis why i intended to put it here not in a new thread
i have a MIDP application that deal with only one JPEG at a atime but i hav ea obut 4 different jpegs
- frankly i can setup the MIDLET with only one jpeg -
that is not the deal
- the problem is i find the emulator exits when i runt he app.
- i tried using thememory monitor i found o/t outofmemoryerror
- i began debugging the source using the java studio mobility and in a specific line it game me that exception
i admit the program uses alot alot of arrays and hashtable but the gc is working an di get rid of any non-used objects..
the application works in TWO threads
to take the whole view.. while im monitoring the object creation - using the memory monitoring -
be4 the exit i found alot alot of strings objects to be created, but the line i stopped at in debugging was allocating arrays of bytes (of big size ) so i guess the strings is in the other thread
last i printed out the free VS total memory using
Runtime.getruntime().freememory() , Runtime.getruntime().totalmemory();
i found the total memory is only 500000
i tried changing the IDE file in the bin directory of the studio to use the max availabe memory
but no difference
any help PLZ

    my iphone 4 would not back-up to to pc "because an error occurred" anyone offer any solutions to this,  I want to restore my phone to factory settings and reinstall my data but cannot back up first. Original problem is that I cannot connect to any wifi system anymore - have tried resetting network settings but did not work.

    Try 1 step at a time and do a backup, if no joy then do the next step:
    1. Switching off your anti-virus and firewall.
    2. Computer iTunes menu > Edit > Preferences... > Devices > delete your backup

    Before beginning the download, try temporarily disabling your antivirus, anti-adware, anti-spyware, and any other anti-whatever that is required with the secure OS your computer is running.

    Go into Settings>Messages>Send and Receive and make sure that your phone number is checked and iMessage reads as activated. Remove the checkmark from the email address and make sure that only the phone number if checked. It should appear grayed out, but should still have a checkmark. If the phone number does not have a checkmark, then turn off iMessage, wait a few moments and then turn iMessage back on and make sure that it activates.

  • I keep getting this error when connecting my phone (0xE8000001)

    I keep getting this error when connecting my phone (0xE8000001) to iTunes. Sometimes the phone will try and sync for a little bit then it disconnects. What gives?
    And yes, I do have the latest version of iTunes (7.3)

    i kept getting all the same errors and i just figured it out. after getting an iphone i went from pure excitment to anger as i plugged it in and realized i needed to upgrade to tiger. then i spent over an hour installing tiger and it still didnt work. i got the same itunes error of not recognizing. HERE IS THE FIX....TURN OFF THE IPHONE AND REMOVE FROM THE DOCK. DONT JUST PUT IT TO SLEEP, HOLD DOWN THE BUTTON UNTIL IT ASKS YOU TO SLIDE TO TURN OFF. THEN CLOSE ITUNES. NEXT TURN THE PHONE BACK ON BY RE-DOCKING. START UP ITUNES IF IT DOESNT START IMMEDIATELY. YOU SHOULD START HAVING FUN NOW, ALBEIT SLOW ON THE 1.1 USB.

    T he general concensus to fix this is to turn off Facebook and iMessage for a couple of minutes. Then turn them back on again and it seems to get them activated.

  • Object serialization failure during OutOfMemory error (EOFException)

    Hello all,
    We are seeing a very strange situation when writing a serializable object to a flat file, specifically during an OutOfMemory condition. Our application saves the state of an object if an error occurs, and retries at a later point by reviving the object from its serialized form. We recently encountered a series of EOFExcetions when trying to reload the serialized object. Looking at the serialized data, we see that the file is indeed incomplete, and that it appears to be the serialized representation of the data contained within the object that is missing (the structure of the object appears to be stored in the serialized file, but not the runtime data).
    The code that produces and consumes these serialized objects is used in a variety of locations, and even in the case where these EOF errors occurred usually works as expected. The difference appears to be that the error condition which lead to the object serialization was in-fact an OutOfMemory error. That is, we had an OOM error elsewhere in our application, which caused our objects to be serialized to disk. During this serialization process we end up with corrupt (incomplete) serialization data.
    So.. the question is: Is it possible that the OutOfMemory situation causes the JVM to incorrectly serialize an object (without an error), and specifically to omit runtime data (variables) from the serialized form of the object?
    Thanks/

  • OutOfMemory error in java.awt.image.DataBufferInt. init

    We have an applet application that performs Print Preview of the images in the canvas. The images are like a network of entities (it has pictures of the entities involve (let's say Person) and how it links to other entities). We are using IE to launch the applet.
    We set min heap space to 128MB, JVM max heap space to 256MB, java plugin max heap space to 256MB using the Control Panel > Java.
    When the canvas width is about 54860 and height is 1644 and perform Print Preview, it thows an OutOfMemoryError in java.awt.image.DataBufferInt.<int>, hence, the Print Preview page is not shown. The complete stack trace (and logs) is as follows:

    Drilling down the cause of the problem. The OutOfMemory occurred in the constructor of DataBufferInt when it tried to create an int array:
    public DataBufferInt(int size) {
    super(STABLE, TYPE_INT, size);
    data = new int[size]; # this part produce out of memory error when size = width X height
    bankdata = new int[1][];
    bankdata[0] = data;
    The OutOfMemory error occurred when size is width * height (54860 X 1644) which is 90,189,840 bytes (~86MB).
    I can replicate the OutOfMemory error when initiating an int array using a test class when it uses the default max heap space but if I increase the heap space to 256MB, it cannot be replicated in the test class.
    Using a smaller width and height with product not exceeding 64MB, the applet can perform Print Preview successfully.
    Given this, I think the java applet is not using the value assigned in javaplugin.maxHeapSize to set the max heap space, hence, it still uses the default max heap size and throws OutOfMemory in int array when size exceeds the default max heap space which is 64MB.
    For additional information, below is some of the java properties (when press S in java applet console):
    browser = sun.plugin
    browser.vendor = Sun Microsystems, Inc.
    browser.version = 1.1
    java.awt.graphicsenv = sun.awt.Win32GraphicsEnvironment
    java.awt.printerjob = sun.awt.windows.WPrinterJob
    java.class.path = C:\PROGRA~1\Java\jre6\classes
    java.class.version = 50.0
    java.class.version.applet = true
    java.runtime.name = Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment
    java.runtime.version = 1.6.0_17-b04
    java.specification.version = 1.6
    java.vendor.applet = true
    java.version = 1.6.0_17
    java.version.applet = true
    javaplugin.maxHeapSpace = 256M
    javaplugin.nodotversion = 160_17
    javaplugin.version = 1.6.0_17
    javaplugin.vm.options = -Xms128M -Djavaplugin.maxHeapSpace=256M -Xmx256m -Xms128M
    javawebstart.version = javaws-1.6.0_17
    Kindly advise if this is a bug in JRE or wrong setting. If wrong setting, please advise on the proper way to set the heap space to prevent OutOfMemory in initializing int array.
    Thanks a lot.

    I assumed that one element in the int array is 1 byte. ..Your assumption is wrong. How could it be possible to store 32 bits (4 bytes) in 8 bits (1 byte)? (a)

    Hello AlexCornejo,
    Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    The screen you're seeing on your iPhone indicates it is in recovery mode.  Now since the device is not appearing in iTunes on your PC, first follow the steps in this article:
    iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
    After following those steps, you should be able to restore your iPhone.
    Take care,
    Alex H.

  • OutOfMemory error while executing sql query

    Hello!
    My program gets multiple datas from database in every ten minutes, and stores them in memory for hundreds of users, requesting datas via web-interface simoultaneously.
    I dont have access to change database structures, write stored procedures, etc, just read from db.
    There is a table in database with lot of million rows, and sometimes when I try to execute a SELECT on this table it takes minutes to get back the result.
    To avoid waiting for database server for a long time, I set querytimeout to 30 seconds.
    If the server throws back the execution with Query Timed out Exception, I want to 'forget' this data, and 0 value is acceptable because of fast run is more important. So I put the boolean broken variable to check if there is any problem with db server.
    The size of the used memory is about 150Mb if things going well, but I set the max heap to 512 MB, just in case anything happens.
    I'm logging all threads stacktrace, and free/used/allocated memory size in every 5 seconds.(threadwatching.log) 2.appendix
    Sometimes, not in every case (I dont know what is this depends on), when I get the next phase of refreshing cached datas (you can see it below), the process reaches the fiorst checkpoint (signed in code below), starts to execute the sql query, and never reaches the second checkpoint , but used memory growing 50-60 Mb-os in every 5 seconds, as I can see in threadwatching.log until it reaches the max memory and throws OutOfMemory error: java heap space.
    I'm using DbConnectionBroker for connection pooling, SQLCommandBean for handling Statements, PreparedStatements, etc, and jTDS jdbc connector.
    SQLCommandBean closes statements, resultsets, so these objects doesnt stays open.
    I cant figured out what causes the memory leak, if someone have an idea, please help me.

    What does your query bring back from this table?This is the query:
    SELECT case sum(c.picked) when 0 then 0 else
    ((sum(c.picked)-(sum(c.picked)-(sum(c.vacuum)+sum(c.id
    ent))))*cast((1000000/cast(sum(c.picked) as float))
    as bigint)) end as PPM
    FROM sip_comp c
    LEFT JOIN sip_pcb pc ON pc.id=c.pcbid
    LEFT JOIN sip_period p on p.id=pc.periodid
    WHERE p.stationid=? AND pc.time BETWEEN ? AND ?Has anybody who knows SQL tried EXPLAIN PLAN to optimize this table? You're joining on a table with a million rows and you're wondering why the performance is poor?
    What is the index situation with these tables?
    .> When I execute it from query manager, it takes from 1
    to 60 secs depend on servers availability. So how will that be any different for JDBC and Java?
    ..> You're right. Thats why I am here.
    What I mean by that is we can't read minds, either. You need to get some hard data to tell you where the bottleneck is. Asking at a forum won't help.
    But tell me, if the java process enters to this query
    execution, and doesnt quit until OOM thrown, how can
    be the problem in caching?I was guessing about caching, because I didn't know what the query was.
    You expect a lot.
    .> No.
    Then how do you ever expect to solve this?
    I tried YourKit Profiler at home, where I'm
    developing software, but this OOM never thrown here,
    even if I have the same database size.Then you aren't replicating the problem. You have to run it on the system that has the problem if you're going to solve it.
    YourKit isn't an industry leader. How well do you know how to use it?
    It just happened at the company where the system
    runs, and I cannot run this profiler there because
    the PC where my tomcat runs dramatically slowed.You have to run something to figure out what the problem is. What about Log4J, some trace logging statements and a batch job to harvest the log?
    Bottom line: you've got to be a scientist and get some real data. We can theorize all we want here, but that won't get you to a solution.

  • Java.lang.OutOfMemory error while retrieving data from a large table

    Hi,
    i am trying to fetch data using "executeQuery()" into a ResultSet from the database. But since the data in that table is large. i am recieving "java.lang.OutOfMemory" Error. So, to resolve that, i have used "setMaxRows()" for my statement object. This resolved the error but i don't recieve the entire data. If i call "executeQuery()" again, i recieve the same data. I don't even know a filtering criterion where by i can filter the data for each "executeQuery()"..
    How can i resolve this problem
    Thanx in advance
    --Chaitanya

    Either use some criteria you develop related to one of the keys on the table or use some sort of record limiting method.
    Note the method of limiting will vary related to the database you are using. You will have to look at the documentation.
    For example I am told this will work in MySQL to get 200 records starting at record 100.
    SELECT * FROM myTable ORDER BY whatever ASC LIMIT 100,200
    Because you are running out of memroy I assume the table is large,
    I am not sure what the impact of the above will have on performance because if in the above if the order by is not based on an index at the server level all the records will be selected and sorted before the records are limited.
    I would make sure you have an appropriate index.
    If you use the advanced search over the user forums using "resultset paging" and possibility the database you are using you should be able to get some ideas.
    I hope this makes sense to you.

    I need to setup 7800 Series IP Phones in the CUCM 8.6.2 which by default are not support but will work after install the software. Anyone have document from Cisco as I remember I seen once before.

    Hi Ali,
    I'll just add this reference to the good tips from my friend Manish (+5)
    Support for the 7800 series in CUCM 8.6.2 was first added with this
    Device Pack;
    Cisco Unified Communications Manager
    Device Package 8.6(2)(24104-1)Release Notes
    Cisco Unified Communications Manager Device Package Release 8.6(2)
    adds support for the Cisco IP Phones
    7821, 7841, and 7861 running SIP firmware release 10.1(1).
    The steps are in this doc
    http://www.cisco.com/web/software/282074299/107528/cmterm-devicepack-8.6.2.24104-1_Readme.pdf
    You might as well install the latest 8.6.2 Device pack
    cmterm-devicepack8.6.2.24112-1.cop.sgn
    Cheers!
