Is YouTube going to drop Flash for HTML5?

My site http://www.fuhshnizzle.com uses the YouTube player which still runs on Flash.
Anyone know of any plans by YouTube to drop Flash in favor of HTML5?
Should I be concerned?
I know they've been offering HTML5 beta for over a year but this is a grey topic....
Thanks!!

You may want to bring this up in a different forum like maybe http://forums.adobe.com/community/design_development/webdesign

  • Adobe drops Flash for Linux, except Chrome

    Hi,
    http://blogs.adobe.com/flashplayer/2012 … linux.html
How long until someone cuts Flash out of Chrome and provides the PPAPI for the other browsers? Or better yet, how long until this awful Flash will be a thing of the past and will be replaced by open concepts like HTML5.
    Alex

No. Companies don't need to change OS for this. They can always use Google Chrome (for Linux). However why should they discontinue providing a standalone plugin. They can provide a standalone plugin which any PPAPI implementing web browser can use (in the future if firefox or webkit based ones support the API). Why restrict it to chrome?
You're right, but i was thinking if half+ of the web is based on flash, there will be tons of linux users (like me) that couldn't see that half+ of the web content or doesn't want to chage their web browser. If linux is a poorly supported flash platform, why invest money on make linux friendly web apps and games?
Besides Mozilla said that they're not interested in support PPAPI right now...

  • Is Flash Builder dead? I just found out that adobe has dropped Flash on mobile devices

I did alot of research on software to develop apps for the mobile market. I liked Flash Builder since it will create apps for all 3 types of mobile devices at once. Downloaded the 30 day trial and have started on the 5 day training course.
Today I saw an article from sitepoint that abobe has dropped development and support for Flash on mobile devices.
The end result of Flash Builder gives you a .swf file in an html wrapper thus we are developing flash when adobe has dropped Flash for mobile. Am I wasting my time? Should I go to another software package?

    HELP

the plugin for mobile browsers is the only thing they will not update in the future. The normal desktop browser plugin is very alive
Everything else is active... they are still continuing to work on exporting to Android,iOS, and rim playbook via AIRapps in both flash builder and flash pro.
The only difference going forward is mobile websites viewing flash (apps are unchanged). Basically... apple won
Not a big deal so far, but everywhere you look people are frantic and asking -whats next?
I like air for ios and android. Im sticking with it

  • Flash and HTML5 ???

    Hi everyone
Does anyone know if the iPad is going to have flash or html5 soon?
It's annoying how they can create and implement technology like this and yet I get frustrated when I want to go on a website and tells me I need flash.
    Help!!!

    1. The iPad has a bigger screen, I have an iPhone that is much more comfortable than something that is roughly half the size of the iPad/more than twice the size of the iPhone, flash is slow, drains battery, and hogs RAM
    2. price is $1000 UNSUBSIDIZED. The iPad is $829 at most UNSUBSIDIZED. The high end iPad in the US also maxes out at 64GB while the highest end Tab maxes out at 34GB (after purchasing a separate 32GB SD card). So you get more for less with the iPad (storage wise).
    3. The Tab is still yet to actually ship. I have had an iPad since April 30th.
    4. Flash is fairly easy. I learned it in 8th grade. I have built several websites with it...about the same level of difficulty as building a website in MS Publisher... It costs a lot more to make an HTML5/CSS3 website than for a flash site due to all the coding involved.
    5. The tools to secure an android device for enterprise are very limited.
    6. Android 2.2 (aka Froyo) is not designed for tablets, nor are any of the apps in the official app market. (Google themselves have said this). The version optimized for tablets is 3.0 and is not due to be released until next year.
Now that all that has been said, google searches, or use of the search box on the right will turn up around 50 different threads for the iPad alone. People need to use those first...

  • Dropping development for Flash Player on mobiles entirely?

"Even though Adobe just mentioned it was planning to invest further in HTML5 after restructuring, a rumor from ZDNet suggests the changes could go even further by dropping development for Flash Player on mobiles entirely. According to an email reportedly received by the company's partners, its future work on Flash for cellphones and tablets will focus on enabling developers to "package apps with Adobe AIR for all the major app stores." After years of battling with Apple and Steve Jobs over the place of Flash on mobiles it appears the company is ready to lay down its sword, with existing platforms like Android receiving only security updates going forward. If the rumors are true, we'll probably hear an official announcement later today, along with a few huge belly laughs from the folks in Cupertino."

Flash to Focus on PC Browsing and Mobile Apps; Adobe to More Aggressively Contribute to HTML5
Posted by Danny Winokur, Vice President & General Manager, Interactive Development at Adobe in Business Professionals, Creative Professionals, Developers, Video
Adobe is all about enabling designers and developers to create the most expressive content possible, regardless of platform or technology. For more than a decade, Flash has enabled the richest content to be created and deployed on the web by reaching beyond what browsers could do. It has repeatedly served as a blueprint for standardizing new technologies in HTML.  Over the past two years, we’ve delivered Flash Player for mobile browsers and brought the full expressiveness of the web to many mobile devices.
However, HTML5 is now universally supported on major mobile devices, in some cases exclusively.  This makes HTML5 the best solution for creating and deploying content in the browser across mobile platforms. We are excited about this, and will continue our work with key players in the HTML community, including Google, Apple, Microsoft and RIM, to drive HTML5 innovation they can use to advance their mobile browsers.
Our future work with Flash on mobile devices will be focused on enabling Flash developers to package native apps with Adobe AIR for all the major app stores.  We will no longer continue to develop Flash Player in the browser to work with new mobile device configurations (chipset, browser, OS version, etc.) following the upcoming release of Flash Player 11.1 for Android and BlackBerry PlayBook.  We will of course continue to provide critical bug fixes and security updates for existing device configurations.  We will also allow our source code licensees to continue working on and release their own implementations.
These changes will allow us to increase investment in HTML5 and innovate with Flash where it can have most impact for the industry, including advanced gaming and premium video.  Flash Player 11 for PC browsers just introduced dozens of new features, including hardware accelerated 3D graphics for console-quality gaming and premium HD video with content protection.  Flash developers can take advantage of these features, and all that our Flash tooling has to offer, to reach more than a billion PCs through their browsers and to package native apps with AIR that run on hundreds of millions of mobile devices through all the popular app stores, including the iTunes App Store, Android Market, Amazon Appstore for Android and BlackBerry App World.
We are already working on Flash Player 12 and a new round of exciting features which we expect to again advance what is possible for delivering high definition entertainment experiences.  We will continue to leverage our experience with Flash to accelerate our work with the W3C and WebKit to bring similar capabilities to HTML5 as quickly as possible, just as we have done with CSS Shaders.  And, we will design new features in Flash for a smooth transition to HTML5 as the standards evolve so developers can confidently invest knowing their skills will continue to be leveraged.
We are super excited about the next generations of HTML5 and Flash.  Together they offer developers and content publishers great options for delivering compelling web and application experiences across PCs and devices.  There is already amazing work being done that is pushing the newest boundaries, and we can’t wait to see what is still yet to come!

  • Flash or Dreamweaver for HTML5

using Flash professional cs6 for creating  interactive eLearning content.
My costumer wants to publish to web, smartphone and tablets.
I have the plugin “toolkit create js.” For HTML5 but this gives a lot of errors not interactivity.
Could you advise me? Do I need to import my project to Dreamweaver ?
    Thanks,
    Ton

Flash is very useful for creating animated and interactive content and cool stuff. But the Apple iPhone and iPad will never display Flash. Ever. And on much of the Android hardware, Flash is hardly optimal.
HTML5 offers alternatives to using Flash and those alternatives include video and audio elements that let you display video and audio on a website where, once, you had to have a Flash Plugin in a browser. You can also do really wonderful interactive stuff using JavaScript.
Pixelpaint has a converter that will change Flash into HTML5. It's not perfect, but it does get some things done. Google offers Swiffy for conversion to HTML5, though it can't yet convert DoubleClick Studio creatives.
Adobe also has a toolkit for CreateJS that can help you take your Flash projects to iPad and iPhone that will only work with Flash CS6. When you install the Adobe Extension Toolkit for CreateJS by using your Adobe Extensions Manager you can access it through the Flash authoring environment by going to: Window > Other Panels > Toolkit for CreateJS.
It's not perfect. It exports all of the Flash graphics, animations, and sounds to individual assets and Javascript files that support Canvas for HTML5. It does not support Actionscript 1.0 to 3.0 and Flash's built in 3D tools. Even though the Toolkit does not convert Actionscript to Javascript yet, it does leave you in the position to be able to do it yourself by separating out assets like graphics and sound and and animations and creating readable Javascript for the timeline animations. Adobe has instructions for getting started with this toolkit online.

  • Does iOS 7's Safari Convert Youtube Flash and HTML5 Videos to Quicktime? How Is it Playing?

Hi. It's good to see Safari (I have iOS 7) playing videos on sites like Youtube. Is it converting Flash and HTML5 to Quicktime or is the video playing because it's only using HTML5? How does Safari go about playing Youtube and Flash videos? Apple has solved the Flash for mobile problem then?
Thank you. Have a great upcoming sunday mass/ great week.
    God bless.

there is no flash for mobile problem since adobe has discontinued flash for any mobile device.
    Safari is not converting anything.
HTML5 facilitates streaming video in a format that ios devices can natively play(mp4).
Youtube/google is putting stuff up in html5.

  • Frustration with lack of support for Flash Player on IPad. When is Apple going to support Flash?

When is Apple going to support Flash Player on IPad?
The majority of sites that have multimedia content rely on Flash. Safari users are missing out on tons and tons of content that depends on Flash.  I have and love my IPad 2. I should be able to use this awesome thing to get at anything I need to on the Internet. Yet when I need to access Flash sites, I am forced back to my windows PC.
Please Apple Make it happen! I'm tired of being ragged by android users on this. You need to fix it.

    Flash is a dieing technology.
Really it's not seeming that way.
In fact, since the iPad release, and Steve Jobs famously declairing the death of Flash, Flash useage has increased.
Check it out 95.75% of all internet connected devices have the Flash Player.
    http://www.statowl.com/flash.php
(the mac only has 12% share, it must be totally doomed then)
IOS Apps are now made using Adobe Flash
    http://thenextweb.com/apple/2011/09/09/the-best-selling-ipad-app-on-the-app-stor e-was-created-with-adobe-flash/
And so are Android, Blackberry etc.
And HTML5 was supposed to be Apple's answer to all the missing content, yet here, 3 years later, HTML5 is no where to be seen, and lacks support/performance to compete with Flash.

Just look at how when you step outside the reality distortion field, things look much different. Look at HTML5 performance compared to Flash.... wasn't HTML5 supposed to outperform and save us from dead batteries? Well even 3 years after Steve Jobs claims it's still using 5x more resources than Flash.
This demo shows 16,250 sprites animating at 60fps using the Flash player, something HTML5 can't even do with less than 100 sprites.

HTML5 is a joke, Flash is real, and is providing real content to real people right now. If you as an Apple owner believe the ownership of an IOS device is worth this loss, then more power to you.

  • Need help with coding for HTML5 Video with Flash fallback

Hello, need help with my coding in Dreamweaver CS5.5 for HTML5 video with Flash fallback. Not sure if the coding is correct. Do I need anything else Javascipt etc?

The reason you see a blank page is because it's trying to load the file that is pretty humungous and there is no preloader. So, you see a white screen till it complets loading.
Also, the reason why its loading a SWF file and not any of HTML5 type video is because your doctype declaration is XHTML1.0 and not HTML5.
Change the 1st line in your .html file from:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    to:
    <!DOCTYPE html>
Then see if your HTML5 video types load with <video> tag.

  • Drop down lists don't diplay, just flash for an instant

Drop down lists display in Internet Explorer, but not when I'm using Firefox. I'm using version 7 on Windows 7. The list flashes for a second but doesn't display for a selection. If I enter the first letter of a list item, the item will be retrieved as a selection.

Try to Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
    See:
You can also try to disable plugins to see if that helps.

Just got brand new macbook pro (13inch) and restored all data from old mac via time machine. Now when I p/back a track in logic I get audio drop out for 3-4 secs every 10 - 15 secs!! What is going on and what can I do? Its the same version of logic and all other functions seem fine!

First of all, why did you say yes to Nero Back up before researching what it does with files already on the HDD? When I install Nero, the Back Up is the first thing I disable, it is a nagging pain, there are much better backup programs available. There are several file recovery programs out there to recover deleted files, that is, if that is what happened. Also, if you haven't overwritten the files, so you should be able to find them.

  • Is Flash going to be available for my iPad.

I have an iPad 2 which does not run flash. Is there ever going to be any changes which will allow it to run flash.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
iOS has never been compatible with Flash, but Adobe has discontinued Flash for Android, so now, Flash is only compatible with Windows, OS X and Linux.
If you need Flash, you can install a Flash-compatible browser from the App Store as Skyfire or Puffin

  • HTML5 canvas app: flash for presentation layer

    Hi there,
I'm a html frontend developer, so I'm quite new to this flash environment.
For a project we're doing right now, however, we decided to go with flash for asset management and presentation layer development.
So we have an MVC javascript project "finished" already, that uses assets exported from a HTML canvas project in flash pro cc. Right now all functionality is coded inside the javascript project, and only assets, animations, etc are loaded from the exported fla. This seems to work fine. However, there is still a strong connection between the javascript views and the exported assets. Right now we're in the position where we need to reskin the whole application, and to allow external developers to design skins as well. This strong connection between assets and views is becoming a problem.
For example, at a certain point in our application we have to show a list options with a variable length. So we draw a container in flash that will contain the list, add a mask, create a scrollbar, etc. Then we have code in the javascript project that uses all these elements, adds displayobjects to the container, scroll the whole thing up and down, etc... That means that a skin designer, who only has access to the fla, is unable to make, for example, a theme where this list is shown horizontaly instead of vertically.
I was wondering how other people handle these scenarios?

you'd have to code and create the graphics for horizontal scrolling just like you did for vertical scrolling
