Hi
Welcome to the    Discussions
Open the Connection Doctor in the Video menu
In the Capabilities Option does it suggest you are "too Slow" for some functions ?
If so then go to System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab and change the speed to 1.5MBps and Restart iChat.

  • Isight works...just not with AIM

My isight (MBP) works, just not with AIM. This problem just recently started happening. I do not even see the Camera icon on my buddy list.
When I restart in safe mode, I know longer have the problem. But when I start my comp up with a regular boot the problem reappears.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

iChat works better in both iChat 3 (Tiger) and iChat 4 (Leopard) if the System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming Settings are set to 1.5Mbps and Not Automatic.
In Tiger iChat 3 reads the Automatic Setting as a Zero.
In Leopard this setting is now read as only 384k which will allow you to Video chat and is also the lowest Spec setting Apple states a 3 and 4 way chat can happen but will cap what Bandwidth/Connection speed you have.
If we are talking form iChat TO AIM (6.5 or above) then you should read this doc by AIM on their Real Time Protocol (read th paragraph under the pics.)

  • Showing My iSight To a PC With AIM

    Hi all,
I just got my iSight today, I'm trying to let another user view my webcam by sending a one way video invitiation, but every time I send it (it doesn't matter which user I send it to, I get the same response every single time regardless of who I am trying to chat with) the iSight immediately says that the user cancelled the request. It happens way too fast for them to have actually done it, and they all say they didn't even see a dialogue box prompting them to accept my invitation. I'm in desperate need to get the iSight working this evening so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.
    ~ES

... help me with that specific error message ...As a user like you, I have no better understanding of the true meaning of the user cancelled the request... error message than you do, but I think iChat AV 3 sometimes applies it spuriously. However, which error message you are getting seems less important to me, than the fact that you cannot connect.
Reading through the articles may be different than trying the suggestions. If I understand your initial question properly, your problem sounds very strange.
Do you really have problems with EVERY one-way video, whether to a Mac or to a PC? Have you really tested with several others?
Can you text chat with anyone? Audio with anyone? Video with anyone? Ever?
Have you recently performed your regular Mac OS X maintenance?
Have you followed the suggestions already made to run wired directly from your Modem to your Mac with no other connected devices until you make this work? (Using iSight with iChat AV)
Does the PC have adequate broadband speed and a working, "tuned," microphone? Have you tried the suggestions already made to add a PC webcam to the PC side to see if video will work then? (Mac Video Chat with PCs)

  • Connecting my iSight with non-iSight cams

Hello. I am trying to connect my iSight with friends who have pc cams and am unable to do so. What do I need to do to resolve this?

    Hi cci55,
They need XP preferably at Service Pack 2.
They need either AIM 6.1 or AIM 5.9 (Definitely NOT AIM 6.0 called Triton).
    They could Trillian Pro
They then need to allow the app they use as an Exception though their XP firewall
The AIM 6.1 app needs to be allowed as AIM6.exe rather than just AIM which will do AIM 5.9
If they are using AIM 5.9 it may also need "Tuning" See message 570 onwards.
These options will allow you to use iChat.
You may need to set your Mac Firewall if it is ON
See the second pic here http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page4.html#_ports
You are almost certainly going to need to allow iChat to get through your modem or router by opening or allowing Ports there.
    Longer info here http://www.mvldesign.com/videoconferencetutorial.html
If you wish to use a another service like MSN or Yahoo then look at these apps http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page5.html#_other

  • Cannot ichat with AIM triton users

I just got my isight yesturday, but I haven't been able to video chat with anyone with AIM triton! I've tried mercury, aMSN, yahoo messenger.. and I'm pretty frustrated! Is there anything else I can try?

check out iChat forum as opposed to this one. This topic has been addressed many times over there. Short answer (I think): is that iChat, et. al., are not AIM Triton-friendly insofar as A/V is concerned. Your Windoze folks need to run AIM 5.9, I think it is. And then they gotta tweak their settings to play nice with iChat.

  • One way video with AIM PC user?

I understand that you can do a one way video chat when the other user has iChat AV, and I know that you can do a two way video chat with a PC AIM buddy. My question is this: is it possible to conduct a one way video chat with a PC AIM buddy? I have an iSight with iChat AV and would like to be able to have a one way video chat with my wife who is out of state.
She does not yet have a camera of her own, but does use instant messenger with the latest AOL software on her Dell laptop. When I see her online, can I initiate the one way video chat to which she will be able to both see and hear me?
    Somebody, please help...
    Thanks!

    Hi Alexander,
In theory it should work to ANY AIM client (AIM, Trillian or iChat) that can do Audio Video chat. (AIM for Mac can not)
I can, in fact, do One-Way to my wife's PC which does not have camrea or Mic and do not get the problem. I can start the chat in either direction.
Other people report this 10 sec problem.
I have not come across anything that is a specific tweak that will make it work.
The Mac is the one listed below,
The PC is running XP home and the processor is 1.6Ghz.
The Mac is on Tiger (10.4.2) and iChat 3.0.1
The PC is on Automatic Updates and has Service Pack 2 install.
The PC is running AIM 5.9 (not sure of the sub numbers)
The router and modem (2 devices) are set up as Static IP from Modem to router and UPnP and Static IP from router to computers (in this case both ethernet), agian with UpnP enabled
The Modem is a Spedtouch 510v4 and has the SIP unbound from port 5060 as it SIP aware.
Having been succesful in Panther - I tried it in Tiger and it failed initially. (the Video icon under the PC text chat disappeared)
I resorted to using the menu items on the PC and was sucessful in asking for a Video chat. This put the Video icon back under the Text chat window and now works in both directions.
It is fair to say that the router which also handles the wireless connections of my children has been rebooted several times which also might make a difference. This has certainly helped other people with Tiger.

  • "Lost Connection with AIM" repeatedly

    Hi there,
I'm using a new Linksys WRT54GL router with the DD-WRT v23 firmware -- which is otherwise fabulous, by the way -- but since going with the router iChat has been pretty unreliable. I can't connect to my sister in England (I'm in Canada): we keep getting "insufficient bandwidth" errors (I'm on a very hi-speed cable internet connection, so I don't think it's me!). Moreover, AIM frequently kicks me off iChat with the message "Lost connection with AIM".
I've configured my router using instructions linked from this forum. I'm forwarding the following ports to my computer:
    5060
    5190
    5220
    5222
    5678
    16384
And while I can connect to other users okay (except my sister, it seems), staying connected it a real issue. Can anyone recommend a fix?
    Thanks,
    Aaron.
PowerBook G4 15-inch 1.67 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   The last PowerBook ever!

    Hi Aaron,
This last port should be a group of 20 ports (16384-16403)
iChat needs 4 ports from this group to do 1-1 Audio or Video chats.
Many Linksys have UPnP. It is found in the Administration tab. If you have this you could use this. Disable the Port Forwarding if you do.
Also port Forwwarding points to one IP/computer. If this is the case for you and you still have the device doing DHCP there is a cance you computer's IP has changed if it goes to sleep or is shut down when the lease time runs out.
Check this on your computer and the Port Forwarding settings.

  • "Lost connection with AIM" error message

    Hi all,
I've been a long-time iChat user — I've had very few problems, but now, at home, whenever I've been connected for about 10-15mins, iChat just disconnects with the simple iChat Connect Alert that the app has "Lost connection with AIM. The connection with the host was unexpectedly lost."
My Buddy List collapses to a "disconnected" header and I diappear from my Buddies' buddy lists. If I'm in the middle of a chat (video, audio or text), the chat continues uninterrupted, but I still disappear from people's lists as if I'd disconnected manually. Weird.
The net result is that I have to keep checking to see if I'm connected and then reconnecting all the time. A real pain in the proverbial.
It only happens at the house. My laptop doesn't disconnect if I'm at the office, for instance.
I have cable, coming in to Netgear 814v2 router; out to an 8-port gigabit switch, which then feeds my three main machines. All via ethernet cabling.
All machines have the same problem described above.
I've made the usual Quicktime setting changes.
I've listed the necessary ports in my Mac firewall settings (even though the firewall is turned off).
Each machine has a dedicated IP issued by the router (10.0.0.2 thru 10.0.0.5)
The router firmware is up to date.
What else is there?! I have no problems initiating or joining any sort of chat with my buddies around the world. I have excellent bandwidth. My internet and email are never interrupted 24/7.
Can someone help me? Pretty please?

    Hi
Try this log on to AIM on port 443 rather than port 5190
Go to IChat > Preferences > Accounts.
Log out of AIM and then use the Server Settings tab
    Set the port to 443.
    Log back in again.

  • IChat Black screen on Windows XP with AIM 5.9

I am trying to chat with a mac to windows xp with AIM 5.9. I have iChat 3.1.9 (v446) on Tiger 10.4.11. I have turned off my firewall on my computer, running DMZ to my NAT IP and have opened all the necessary ports to my windows user in KY. When I initiate the chat, he can accept and I get the sound like he is going to pop up in my window but nothing happens. He says he gets a black sceen but says he is connected. What am I doing wrong?

Apple do have various Info articles.
First, they do list the Ports
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1507?viewlocale=en_US (Panther and Tiger) Old Article: 93208
They have one for Leopard http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306688 (that forgets to mention the Bonjour and Jabber Ports)
    Tiger/iChat 3 Specs http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1771?viewlocale=en_US
    Even iChat 2 http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93245
    Leopard/iChat 4 http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2020?viewlocale=en_US
There is one on What is NAT http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58514
There is a starting point for many other articles http://www.apple.com/support/ichat/ Including iChat 101
Some articles are based on things discovered in these Forums
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301641 (Insufficient Bandwidth)

A search Using "More" on the iChat Support page lists 150 articles related to iChat/
But as you imply none of them are about Chatting to AIM users on a PC.

  • IMac G5 (iSight) with 10.4.11:  Screen always dimmed. Starts at full bright and a second later dimms and stays like that forever.  Brightness controls work normally under this circunstance.  Please help !!!

iMac G5 (iSight) with 10.4.11:  Screen always dimmed. Starts at full bright and a second later dimms and stays like that forever.  Brightness controls work normally under this circunstance.  Please help !!!
Please don't tell me to adjust anything on the preferences, since I have tried all.  I think it may be anoter kind of problem, maybe hardware related or anything.
I ran the Hardware repair DVD and everything was ok, but when the imac restarted the screen was very lit again, but when it went sleep, when it went awake again the screen got dimmed again.  Because of that I think that the problem could be software related, but who knows.  Excuse my english.

I can't see another possible answer - the longer your machine is up, the more the power supply is stressed, it protects itself by dimming the screen to lower the draw on it.

  • ISight with Windows XP?

Can i use an isight with Windows XP?

No, i mean, if it is possible to connect isight with a Winows XP maschine? It is possible if your PC has a Firewire connection. However, nobody has ever reported being able to make iSight's mic work on a PC regardless of which drivers or ancillary software they have added to the PC. That is why, in my previous response, I posted "Not recommended. iSight and the PC"Jim

  • ISight with Skype and aMSN - inverted picture

When I use iSight with Skype or aMSN, the picture is horizontally inverted and no longer functions as if I'm looking into a mirror like with iChat.
There are no options in either program to change this (that I can find). Does anyone know of a solution? I would like flip it horizontally so the image is as if I was looking into a mirror as per iChat.

    Hello Mr_Harley,
Did you get enough info from Tony (Defcom) to consider your question Answered?
I know of no cheaper solution to your problem for both Skype and aMSN than the $8 iGlasses suggestion than Tony offered, but there may be individual solutions that some aMSN or Skype users could recommend.
If you are willing to consider different software for each application, you can search the great Skype Help pages for Skype-specific help or post your question in the Skype for Mac OS X forum.
For a aMSN-specific solution, try a search or post in the aMSN Forum.
If you need more suggestions or information before you can mark this question "Answered," please let us know what part of your Topic still needs to be addressed, and we will try to give you some other suggestions.
    Cheers,

  • ISight with Core Solo Mini

    Hello,
I wonder if someone knows the answer to this. My mother is in L.A. and I am in New York, and I want to get her a Mac mini Core Solo and an iSight camera so she can talk to me and my family (her grand kids). Would a base model Core Solo be able to handle the iSight camera? We're talking about straightforward one-on-one video conferencing between what would her Mac mini and my iMac. She already has an older monitor, USB keyboard and mouse, so the price point of a Core Solo and iSight camera is just perfect. iSight with iChat are the most processor intensive apps she'll be using on the computer. Has anyone tried it with a Core Solo?
iMac Core Dup 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

As you'll see at the bottom of this page, even a G3 can initiate a 1-to-1 video conference. A Core Solo is much more powerful than any G3, and iChat is Universal (no Rosetta emulation), so a Core Solo is more than what you need (you could even consider a 4-way chat .
If you have Cable or DSL internet then you must have at least 100 Kbps downstream (probably more), but you have to make sure that you have at least 100 Kbps upstream if you want good image & sound.

  • I am trying to isight with someone. Both of us have no problem reaching B

My first problem, with just one person - I am trying to isight with personA. I have no problem reaching personB and personA has no problem reaching personB. But we cannot get on with each other. And I don;t mean we are trying to do this at the saqme time. THis is as a completely separate chat (neither of us is on with personB anymore).
As a secondary question: is there a way to 3-way video conference?

I'm not sure why you are having problems with one person, while the other is not. Is person B in another country?
As far as a 3 way video conference goes, yes you can as long the host and the particpants meet the specfications listed here: http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/ichat/
