IsNumeric for String?

I was just wondering how to check whether e.g. a value in a textField is numeric or not.
isNumeric seems to take char as a parameter, but what if you are using strings? Should it be converted to a char array or what?
The main problem is that if I take values from TextFields and do Math.parseInt(string) I get errors if the value in the TextField is not numeric.
It would be great if someone could help.

Assuming you're just after integer values:
boolean isInteger(String s)
  char[] sChars = s.toCharArray();
  for (int i = 0; i < sChars.length(); i++)
    if (!sChars.isDigit())
return false;
return true;
OR
boolean isInteger(String s)
  try
    Integer.parseInt(s)
  catch (NumberFormatException e)
    return false;
  return true;
}Personally I prefer the first, as it doesn't rely on Exceptions for processing logic.

  • Buffer too small for string - Crystal Report for Vs2010

    Hello,
        I have recently upgrade my VS2010 project to Crystal Report for Visual Studion 2010.
        I have some reports that contains more than 512 characters in the Report Comments section.
        When I try to do a RptDoc.SaveAs(vPath, false) the following error is raised:

    Hello Don,
        I have start a little project to retest the behavior.
       I have create a new report in Crystal Report 2008 just by clicking New, Finish and Save.
       In a new Windows Application in Vs2010 ,I have added the following Crystal Report Reference.
        CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine, Version=13.0.2000.0
       CrystalDecisions.Shared, Version=13.0.2000.0
    I have then try the following code and found out the limit of ReportComment is 511 but in the Crystal Report 2008 designer and runtime the limit did not apply.
    Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
          Dim objRpt As New CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument()
          Dim i As Integer = 0
          Try
             objRpt.Load("c:\temp\empty.rpt", CrystalDecisions.Shared.OpenReportMethod.OpenReportByTempCopy)
             Do
                i += 1
                objRpt.SummaryInfo.ReportComments = New String("X", i)
             Loop
             objRpt.SaveAs("c:\temp\dfh_save.rpt", False)
          Catch ex As Exception
             MsgBox("i: " & i)
             MsgBox(ex.Message)
          End Try
    End Sub
         I am able to put has many characters if I insert the report in the Vs2010 Solution.
         If you prefer I can send you my little project.
    Thank you.

  • Program for string comparision in ABAP

    Hi,
    I require a program in abap for string comparision

    Comparing Strings
    Similarly to the special statements for processing strings, there are special comparisons that you can apply to strings with types C, D, N, and T. You can use the following operators:
    <operator>
    Meaning
    CO
    Contains Only
    CN
    Contains Not only
    CA
    Contains Any
    NA
    contains Not Any
    CS
    Contains String
    NS
    contains No String
    CP
    Contains Pattern
    NP
    contains No Pattern
    There are no conversions with these comparisons. Instead, the system compares the characters of the string. The operators have the following functions:
    CO (Contains Only)
    The logical expression
    <f1> CO <f2>
    is true if <f1> contains only characters from <f2>. The comparison is case-sensitive. Trailing blanks are included. If the comparison is true, the system field SY-FDPOS contains the length of <f1>. If it is false, SY-FDPOS contains the offset of the first character of <f1> that does not occur in <f2> .
    CN (Contains Not only)
    The logical expression
    <f1> CN <f2>
    is true if <f1> does also contains characters other than those in <f2>. The comparison is case-sensitive. Trailing blanks are included. If the comparison is true, the system field SY-FDPOS contains the offset of the first character of <f1> that does not also occur in <f2>. If it is false, SY-FDPOS contains the length of <f1>.
    CA (Contains Any)
    The logical expression
    <f1> CA <f2>
    is true if <f1> contains at least one character from <f2>. The comparison is case-sensitive. If the comparison is true, the system field SY-FDPOS contains the offset of the first character of <f1> that also occurs in <f2> . If it is false, SY-FDPOS contains the length of <f1>.
    NA (contains Not Any)
    The logical expression
    <f1> NA <f2>
    is true if <f1> does not contain any character from <f2>. The comparison is case-sensitive. If the comparison is true, the system field SY-FDPOS contains the length of <f1>. If it is false, SY-FDPOS contains the offset of the first character of <f1> that occurs in <f2> .
    CS (Contains String)
    The logical expression
    <f1> CS <f2>
    is true if <f1> contains the string <f2>. Trailing spaces are ignored and the comparison is not case-sensitive. If the comparison is true, the system field SY-FDPOS contains the offset of <f2> in <f1> . If it is false, SY-FDPOS contains the length of <f1>.
    NS (contains No String)
    The logical expression
    <f1> NS <f2>
    is true if <f1> does not contain the string <f2>. Trailing spaces are ignored and the comparison is not case-sensitive. If the comparison is true, the system field SY-FDPOS contains the length of <f1>. If it is false, SY-FDPOS contains the offset of <f2> in <f1> .
    CP (Contains Pattern)
    The logical expression
    <f1> CP <f2>
    is true if <f1> contains the pattern <f2>. If <f2> is of type C, you can use the following wildcards in <f2>:
    for any character string *
    for any single character +
    Trailing spaces are ignored and the comparison is not case-sensitive. If the comparison is true, the system field SY-FDPOS contains the offset of <f2> in <f1> . If it is false, SY-FDPOS contains the length of <f1>.
    If you want to perform a comparison on a particular character in <f2>, place the escape character # in front of it. You can use the escape character # to specify
    characters in upper and lower case
    the wildcard character "" (enter # )
    the wildcard character "" (enter # )
    the escape symbol itself (enter ## )
    blanks at the end of a string (enter #___ )
    NP (contains No Pattern)
    The logical expression
    <f1> NP <f2>
    is true if <f1> does not contain the pattern <f2>. In <f2>, you can use the same wildcards and escape character as for the operator CP.
    Trailing spaces are ignored and the comparison is not case-sensitive. If the comparison is true, the system field SY-FDPOS contains the length of <f1>. If it is false, SY-FDPOS contains the offset of <f2> in <f1> .
    DATA: F1(5) TYPE C VALUE <f1>,
          F2(5) TYPE C VALUE <f2>.
    IF F1 <operator> F2.
       WRITE: / 'Comparison true, SY-FDPOS=', SY-FDPOS.
    ELSE.
       WRITE: / 'Comparison false, SY-FDPOS=', SY-FDPOS.
    ENDIF.
    The following table shows the results of executing this program, depending on which operators and values of F1 and F2.

  • Wat should be the regular expression for string MT940_UB_*.txt to be used in SFTP sender channel in PI 7.31 ??

    Hi All,
    What should be the regular expression for string MT940_UB_*.txt and MT940_MB_*.txt to be used as filename inSFTP sender channel in PI 7.31 ??
    If any one has any idea on this please let me know.
    Thanks

    Hi All,
    None of the file names suggested is working.
    I have tried using - MT940_MB_*\.txt , MT940_MB_*.*txt , MT940*.txt
    None of them is able to pick this filename - MT940_MB_20142204060823_1.txt
    Currently I am using generic regular expression which picks all .txt files. - ([^\s]+(\.(txt))$)
    Let me know ur suggestion on this.

  • ORA-13223: duplicate entry for string in SDO_GEOM_METADATA table and

    I got the above error while trying to insert a record into the table SDO_GEOM_METADATA. However, when querying this table I did find any duplicate table_name, column_name pair that match with the error.
    Here are the steps that I worked on:
    1. Add a geometry column into an existing table.
    ALTER TABLE GEO_MAP ADD (ORG_GEOM mdsys.sdo_geometry);
    2. Register the new column into mdsys

    I got the error ORA-13223: duplicate entry for string in SDO_GEOM_METADATA table even there was no such record in there.
    3. I inserted values in the column ORG_GEOM fine.
    4. However, when I tried to create the index for this column I got the error:

    The situation is we have 2 tables (GEO_MAP, and GEO_REF) that have spatial columns. Everything worked fine until when one of the queries that searched through the table GEO_MAP ran so slow, we decided to rebuild the related spatial index by dropping and recreating it. However, after I dropped it I could not recreated. Keep getting the error:

    raise;
    end;
    any advice would be most apprectiated.
    thanks in advance.

    Why the heck are you using select from dual?
    Just use vVar_Value := REPLACE( vVar_Value, 'NO_MIDDLE_NAME', ''); and everything will be OK
    in SQL limit for varchar2 is 4K, only in PL/SQL you can use 32K

  • Is it possible to search for strings containing spaces and special characters?

    In our RoboHelp project, there are figures with text labels such as Figure 1, Figure 3-2, etc.
    When I search for "Figure 3" I get all pages containing "Figure" and "3", even if I surround it in quotes.  Similarly, searching for "3-2" treats the '-' character as a space and searches for all pages containing '3' or '2'.
    Is there a way to search for strings containing spaces and special characters?

    In that case I think the answer is no if you are using the standard search engine. However I believe that Zoom Search does allow this type of searching. Check out this link for further information.

  • Why jvm maintains string pool only for string objects why not for other objects?

    why jvm maintains string pool only for string objects why not for other objects? why there is no pool for other objects? what is the specialty of string?

    rp0428 wrote:
    You might be aware of the fact that String is an immutable object, which means string object once created cannot be manipulated or modified. If we are going for such operation then we will be creating a new string out of that operation.
    It's a JVM design-time decision or rather better memory management. In programming it's quite a common case that we will define string with same values multiple times and having a pool to hold these data will be much efficient. Multiple references from program point/ refer to same object/ value.
    Please refer these links
    What is Java String Pool? | JournalDev
    Why String is Immutable in Java ? | Javalobby
    Sorry but you are spreading FALSE information. Also, that first article is WRONG - just as OP was wrong.
    This is NO SUCH THING as a 'string pool' in Java. There is a CONSTANT pool and that pool can include STRING CONSTANTS.
    It has NOTHING to do with immutability - it has to do with CONSTANTS.
    Just because a string is immutable does NOT mean it is a CONSTANT. And just because two strings have the exact same sequence of characters does NOT mean they use values from the constant pool.
    On the other hand class String offers the .intern() method to ensure that there is only one instance of class String for a certain sequence of characters, and the JVM calls it implicitly for literal strings and compile time string concatination results.
    Chapter 3. Lexical Structure
    In that sense the OPs question is valid, although the OP uses wrong wording.
    And the question is: what makes class Strings special so that it offers interning while other basic types don't.
    I don't know the answer.
    But in my opinion this is because of the hybrid nature of strings.
    In Java we have primitive types (int, float, double...) and Object types (Integer, Float, Double).
    The primitive types are consessons to C developers. Without primitive types you could not write simple equiations or comparisons (a = 2+3; if (a==5) ...). [autoboxing has not been there from the beginning...]
    The String class is different, almost something of both. You create String literals as you do with primitives (String a = "aString") and you can concatinate strings with the '+' operator. Nevertheless each string is an object.
    It should be common knowledge that strings should not be compared with '==' but because of the interning functionality this works surprisingly often.
    Since strings are so easy to create and each string is an object the lack ot the interning functionality would cause heavy memory consumption. Just look at your code how often you use the same string literal within your program.
    The memory problem is less important for other object types. Either because you create less equal objects of them or the benefit of pointing to the same object is less (eg. because the memory foot print of the individual objects is almost the same as the memory footpint of the references to it needed anyway).
    These are my personal thoughts.
    Hope this helps.
    bye

  • New schema release, with pattern facet for strings?

    Will Oracle release a new version of the schema processor soon, fully implementing pattern facet matches for strings? In accordance with the Last Call recommendation? Or will there be a wait while W3C puts together its release draft later this Summer?
    Anybody know of any schema processors out there that validate to spec?
    (XMLSPY does a good job with the Last Call spec, but only within its own framework).
    Thanks.

    Richard,
    I have just applied patch to upgrade from Portal 3.0.9 to 3.0.9.8.1 (Patch applied to loginserver and portal schema) and the External Applications that were previously set up have gone from the portlet.
    Does this relate to your note at the bottom:
    "Minor issues with Bulk action. 1840420 CUSTOM WRITTEN EXTERNAL AUTH MODULE NEED TO BE UPDATED AFTER 3.0.9 UPGRADE SSOXOID.PKB DOESN'T LOAD.
    External authentication modules that were written before 3.0.9 need to be updated after upgrading to 3.0.9. ssoauthx.pks is updated in 3.0.9 and contains additional routines that need to be implemented." ??
    If I go to the "Login Server Administration" portlet and select the link "Administer External Applications" I get a list of 5 External Applications that have previously been set up.
    If I go back to the Home Page and select "customize" on the "External Applications" portlet I get the message "Your Login Server administrator has not registered any external applications".
    Does that mean I should just run 'ssoauthx.pks' & 'ssoxoid.pkb' or do I need to do something else ??
    Thanks

    Can someone help why this error is coming??
    Thanks is advance.

    Hi,
    This is often the result of failing to include the orasqlX.lib file as input to the linker.
    I have a walkthrough of integrating Pro*C with Visual Studio here:
    http://oradim.blogspot.com/2009/05/oracle-proc-on-windows-with-express.html
    Maybe that will be of some help.
    How are you linking?
    Regards,
    Mark

  • Search a String Vector for String

    I can't figure out why this won't work. It is supposed to search the id vector for stringValue. It does not return any compilation errors, it just simply won't match stringValue with the id.get(i) method.
            for ( int i = 0; i < id.size(); i++ )
              if ( stringValue == id.get(i) )
                JOptionPane.showMessageDialog( null, "Item already exist.", "Error", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE );
                stringValue = null;
            }

    "==" tests for object equality (i.e., that two variables contain the exact same object)
    "equals()" tests for object equivalence (i.e., that two objects have the same value, whether or not they are the same object)
    For strings, it's possible to have two different strings to contain the same sequence of characters. In this case, "==" returns false, while "equals()" returns true.

  • Substring for Strings, what do I use for a int variable???

    Hi!
    substring for Strings...
    String s1 = p.substring(1,2);
    but what do I use for a int variable?
    int i1 = integ."???????"(1,2);
    /Henrik

    why, you use maths of course!!
    or if you're not up to that, try this:
    int x = 931;
    String s = x+"";
    String res = s.substring(1, 2);
    and of course set it back to an int
    with Integer.parseInt(res);
