Isolation_level-TRANSACTION_READ_COMMITTED_FOR_UPDATE
Im using BEA Weblogic 7.0 server and Oracle 9.0.1 DB .
I got below Exception when using the Isolationlevel
as TRANSACTION_READ_COMMITTED_FOR_UPDATE.
when tried using both Weblogic JDBC driver and Oracle JDBC (oci & thin)drivers
for XADataSources
I used this isolation level without any problem in WL server 6.1 .
Error with Oracle Driver:

hi gurus,
how to find the current isolation_level of a session?
many thanksDear user!
The following query is a little workaround to get the information you want to have. In Oracle you can work out the isolation level using a combination of v$session and v$transaction. These are SYS views, so you may have to ask your SYSDBA user to grant you SELECT permissions on these views. Note also that the query will tell you only the current transaction's isolation level, so you must be in a transaction already for the query to work:
SELECT sid, serial#, flag, CASE WHEN BITAND(FLAG,268435456) = 0 THEN
'SERIALIZABLE'
ELSE
'READ COMMITTED'
END AS ISOLATIONLEVEL
FROM V$transaction t,v$session s
WHERE t.addr=s.taddr
AND audsid = USERENV('SESSIONID');Yours sincerely
Florian W.

End of ReportFrederic's right... you're summing up too many statspacks ..
Can't see anything specific apart from the fact that Statspack itself is showing up in the top statements.
First : define 'Slow' . What is your goal for 'Ok' ?
Start thinking about sql_trace, tkprof and 10046 traces -
Hai
We are using oracle 9i R1.
I used to run statspack report every one hour.
Go through the following report and let me know what is wrong in this report. Because our server getting very slow day by day.
Mostly I changed.
If you find anything wrong in the server parameter defined, please let me know to correct that.

Senior Oracle DBA -
How do you determine a process or sessions isolation level.
We are using COM+ components to issue database statements against an Oracle 8i database. COM+ has a property that allows you to set the isolation level. Is there any tool or query that would allow me to verify the isolation level in use by a session or process? I want to verify this property is actually affecting the connection to the DB.
Thanks,
SamFLAG is just one of those columns that Oracle uses. It isn't documented but, as far as I know (which isn't very far), the only use for it is to record the isolation level for the transaction.
I didn't mention it because I didn't think it helped you, for this reason: we don't get a record in the v$transaction view until the transaction has already started. At which point it is too late to change the ISOLATION_LEVEL for the transaction.
Although I suppose you could do this:
BEGIN
UPDATE dummy_table set col1 = col1;
-- remember V$TRANSACTION shows all txns
SELECT count(1) INTO ln
FROM v$transaction t, v$session s
WHERE bitand(t.flag,268435456) <> 0
AND s.taddr = t.addr
AND s.audsid = sys_context('userenv', 'sessionid');
IF ln = 0
THEN
ROLLBACK;
SET TRANSACTION ISOLATION LEVEL SERIALIZABLE;
END IF;
-- do_whatever
COMMIT;
END ;.

Ecperf runtime bugs on BEA WebLogic Server
I have deployed Ecperf on Weblogic server, Oracle DB on Win 2000 and tested it
with the web client according to the Ecperf/README.html document, all the tests
worked just fine. And I also did a data load using "loaddb.nt.bat" file, the load
was successful. But, when I run the driver, I get the following error,
Note: I have also tried deployed SequenceEnt to use a seperate connection pool
with an isolation level of serializable to work correctly.

Your problem is probably because SequenceEnt has not been deployed
correctly - this beans needs to be deployed using a seperate connection
pool with an isolation level of serializable to work correctly.
ShantiYour weblogic-application.xml is malformed. Just google for the solution.

Locking issues with transaction-isolation levels
I believe that my program is suffering from some sort of deadlock, and I was hoping
for some feedback.
I am helping to develop a trading system
using EJBs, Oracle 9i, and Bea Weblogic 7.0. The system provides an entity EJB
called LiveOrder that exposes several finder methods, most of which return java.util.Collections
of LiveOrder EJBs.
In weblogic-ejb-jar.xml, I have set the transaction isolation-levels for these
finders to TRANSACTION_READ_COMMITTED_FOR_UPDATE (b/c TRANSACTION_SERIALIZABLE
isn't really supported by Oracle), in an effort to eliminate phantom reads, which
occur frequently if I do not use this isolation level. These finders all use transaction
attribute 'Required'.
It is my understanding that any transaction that calls any of these finders either
will lock the database if no other transaction already owns the lock, or will
wait until the lock is released if another transaction owns that lock. It also
is my understanding that a transaction that owns a lock will always release any
locks acquired upon expiration of that transaction (whether that be via commit
or via rollback).
However, this doesn't always appear the case: I have noticed occassionally that
several clients "hang," as they wait for the lock that, for some reason, is not
being released by its transaction. There do not appear to be any exceptions thrown
by the system prior to the system hanging, and the Weblogic administration tool
states that all transactions have been committed.
If it helps, I have included the general algorithm for the main (i.e., most expensive)
transaction:
1. a client calls a stateless session EJB's processOrder method (which should
implicitly start a new transaction, b/c this method has attibute 'RequiresNew')
2. the transaction invokes the LiveOrder finder method (this should lock the DB,
so subsequent callers should block until the lock is released).
3. the transaction invokes another LiveOrder finder method, returning a separate
set of data.
4. the transaction invokes a finder method from a separate entity EJB (called
Security), which maps to a "read-only" table in the DB (default transaction-isolation
level, Required attribute).
5. the transaction invokes a finder method from yet another separate entity EJB
(called SecurityMarketValues), which maps to some other table (not read-only)
in the DB (again, default transaction-isolation level, Required attribute).
6. the transaction writes to the SecurityMarketValues entity EJB.
7. the transaction writes to the LiveOrders retrieved from steps 2 and 3.
8. the transaction ends by exiting method processOrder (thus releasing the locks
on the LiveOrder table in the DB).
In the system, there also exist other transactions that occassionally call the
LiveOrder EJB finder methods, but only briefly to take a "snapshot" of the live
order table (i.e., these transactions do not make calls to other DB tables, and
close transactions almost immediately after starting them)
Like I mentioned before, the system sometimes works, and sometimes it hangs. Any
ideas? I'm running out...
Jon,
If there was an Oracle deadlock the DB would resolve it momentarily and
will ultimately choose one transaction and throw an exception so it's
not a DB deadlock.
Take a thread dump at the very moment your system seems to be hanging
and look at what the threads are doing.
From your description it's not very unlikely that those threads of
yours that take snapshots of the data will not disrupt the transactions
so you may be surprised by the thread dumps that this is actually what
happens -- those snapshot thread wait for some lock while holding locks
needed by you other threads and it just slows down the system.
Regards,
Dejan

Looks like its actually connecting ok, as it includes the message "Created new ODBC connection (16585544)"
The ODBC driver is from CA (ingres) v3.5
- not sure that this fully supports all the requirements specified in the doc, and its not very well documented.
- the latest version available from their website is 2.8 which has some docs to say what it supports:
"The Ingres ODBC driver is a 2.x ODBC driver that supports all core and level 1 functions plus the following level 2 functions:
SQLExtendedFetch (through Microsoft Cursor Library only)
SQLForeignKeys
SQLMoreResults
SQLNumParam
SQLPrimaryKeys
SQLProcedureColumns
SQLProcedures
SQLSetPos (through Microsoft Cursor Library only)"
In order to test the configuration, I also copied the entries in the tnsnames and listener files, created a separate DSN, and set up a connection to an Access database - and this works fine, so I don't believe it is a configuration problem.
Is there anyone out there who has tried to connect to ingres, and is there an issue with the ingres ODBC driver.
Any help appreciated.
LeoI'm using the Ingres 2.80.00.64 driver on NT successfully with hsodbc delivered with V92 Oracle database release.
About the provided trace file... Normally you should have a look at the odbc driver AND the hsodbc log file to see the real cause.
But according t the file you provided:
This error is normal: [G000]
The S1009 needs more clarification and thus an ODBC driver trace would help as well. -
How to avoid transaction overhead in oracle ?
Hi ,
My database has 85 lakhs records already, during working hours,in single minute 20 records are being inserted into my table.at the same time some users trying to fetch the data from same table .so after long wait ,i m getting script time out error . as for my knowlege oracle will not support ALTER SESSION SET ISOLATION_LEVEL READ UNCOMMITTED. is there any other way to read the data from table irrespective of insert/update/delete. i am using dynamic queries in storeprocedures to fetch the data from table.any suggestion would be very helpful . Thanks in advance.Boss wrote:
My database has 85 lakhs records already, What on earth is a lakh? And no, telling me again won't make me remember it as I use normal English metrics daily. I suggest that you use the same when posting in a public English forum.
during working hours,in single minute 20 records are being inserted into my table.at the same time some users trying to fetch the data from same > table .so after long wait ,i m getting script time out error . That is an application problem and not an Oracle problem. Row locks are explicit locks that are caused by application SQL. Not by Oracle due to lock escalation (that does not exist in Oracle).
So a row lock means that one application says it wants to change that row - which means other application processes can read that row (readers are not blocked). However, any other application process that wants to lock that same row for change will be blocked and needs to wait for that row to be unlocked.
Oracle locking is in a nutshell as simple as this.
If you are "seeing" different behaviour, then your application code is the cause of the problem. Not Oracle.
And I would not be touching Oracle transaction isolation levels to fix problems in application code.
Is there any other way to read the data from table irrespective of insert/update/delete. No. Not needed. A row lock NEVER blocks a select on that row. Oracle provides read consistency despite locking of rows and tables. This is called multi-version consistency control.
i am using dynamic queries in storeprocedures to fetch the data from table.And that is where your code and your design fails. Dynamic code is WRONG.*
Why is it (almost ways) wrong? Never mind the fact that 99% of developers are incapable of designing and writing dynamic code (based on OTN postings here), relational data models are not dynamic. Not when correctly designed.

Hi,
I am trying to perform a simple query which looks like following in ejb-jar.xml
<query>
<query-method>
<method-name>findBySecurityNumber</method-name>
<method-params>
<method-param>int</method-param>
</method-params>
</query-method>
<ejb-ql>SELECT DISTINCT OBJECT(a) FROM LoanEntity a WHERE a.securityId = ?1
</ejb-ql>
</query>
In the SQL generated, I do not see the distinct clause being generated. Any ideas
as to what I am doing incorrectly?
This was a bug in SP 1, WL 6.1. But I am using SP2.
Thanks for your help
MohitHi Mohit,
You aren't doing anything wrong. The generated queries don't contain a distinct clause
because it isn't portable. For example, Oracle will not allow the use of "SELECT
DISTINCT" in conjunction with a "FOR UPDATE" clause. For portablility, the EJB
container manually weeds out the duplicate results. You can, however, still can have a
distinct clause in your generated SQL by using the sql-select-distinct element of your
CMP deployment descriptor. This may give you better performance but be sure the
transaction your query executes in will not have an isolation level of
TRANSACTION_READ_COMMITTED_FOR_UPDATE or you will run into problems.

Memory Leak in Oracle BLOB writing
Hi,
We have strange performance problem. Our profiler shows that Oracle connection object holds the inserted BLOB (byte[]) data. This is not getting released at all.
The details are below.
BLOB writing method:
==============
We are using Hibernate ORM along with Spring framework's OracleLobHandler for handling the LOB data. Spring uses xLOb.createTemporary.. method to insert the LOB data and finally it clears that by calling xLOB.freetemporary method. But still the data is left in the connection object.
I have tried passing 'cache=false' to the createTemporary method. But of no use.
Versions:
======
Oracle DB = Oracle 10G
Oracle jdbc driver = 10.2.0.2.0
Spring framework = 2.5
Hibernate ORM = 3.2.3 ga
Here is our profiler output (Your kit):
=================
byte[30123012] outBuffer of oracle.jdbc.driver.T4C8TTIBlob blobMsg of oracle.jdbc.driver.T4CConnection _conn of org.apache.tomcat.dbcp.dbcp.PoolableConnection value of org.apache.tomcat.dbcp.pool.impl.GenericObjectPool$ObjectTimestampPair _val of org.apache.tomcat.dbcp.collections.CursorableLinkedList$Listable _next of org.apache.tomcat.dbcp.collections.CursorableLinkedList$Listable
Please help me to solve the issue.Simulating the same environment in standalone java program is a big work i guess. That is like developing a new application. :) I hope you understand the problem.
If you can please try to answer my question below. I may not need the exact answer, but may need a direction to debug the problem. Since i dont have access to Oracle driver source, i dont know what is happening inside. That is not the case with others (Hibernate, Spring - are open source projects).
Here i have attached the oracle jdbc log file for the write & freetemporary operation. I can able see that the BLOB.freememory & connection.freememory is happening. But still objects are available in the buffer of the Connection object. I guess if you could see that something might strike for you..we may be missed something...

Weird Problem with BLOB CMP field
Hi,
I am trying to deploy an EJB2.0 CMP Bean in Weblogic6.1 .The Bean has one of the CMP Field as a serializable object mapped to a BLOB Datatype in Oracle8i
When i try to creae this Entity Bean
I get "java.io.IOException: ORA-22920: row containing the LOB value is not locked" as a nested exception.
When i increased the isolation level . I got "java.io.IOException: ORA-01002 fetch out of sequence" as the nested exception
And one more horrible thing that is happening is the other arguments to the create method are getting updated in the DB except the Blob field(Supposed to rollback? when there is an EJB Exception ??)
Any thoughts? Comments?
Regards
SathyaHi,
I seem to recall that there are multiple issues with BLOBS & WLS. I'll describe my setup, and you can see if your missing anything:
- In weblogic-cmp-rdbms-jar.xml you need to set the column type as a Blob:
<field-map>
<cmp-field>binary</cmp-field>
<dbms-column>binary</dbms-column>
<dbms-column-type>OracleBlob</dbms-column-type>
</field-map>
- In weblogic-ejb-jar.xml you may need to set the isolation level of your set method:
<transaction-isolation>
<isolation-level>TRANSACTION_READ_COMMITTED_FOR_UPDATE</isolation-level>
<method>
<ejb-name>TerminalSoftwareKernelBDO</ejb-name>
<method-name>setBinary</method-name>
</method>
</transaction-isolation>
- The bean get/set methods should look like this:
public abstract void setBinary(java.lang.Object binary);
public abstract java.lang.Object getBinary();
- In WLS 6.1 up to Service Pack 2 (I don't know about SP3 yet), BLOBs are incorrectly implemented. For some (odd) reason you can only put serialized objects into the DB... I think this means that if you have a BLOB put in by anything but WLS, WLS get very unhappy. So empty out your table with the blobs first.
Hope that helps.
Daniel. -
An autonomous transaction has dml(s) and commit.when this is called inside a normal procedure, it will see the changes made in the Autonomous tx.
Is there any ISOLATION LEVEL value we can set to make it invisible for the procedure to see these changes made by the Autonomous tx?No. Oracle only has two transaction isolation levels-- read committed and serializable, along with a read-only transaction option. In all three, the calling procedure will see the changes made by the autonomous transaction (test case below)
Architecturally, though, I would question the wisdom of hiding the results of an autonomous transaction from the caller. If that is goal, I would tend to suspect that you want to call an asynchronous process (i.e. submitting a job that will run in a separate session) rather than doing the work in an asynchronous transaction.
Test case
Create the table, the calling procedure, and the autonomous transaction...
SCOTT @ jcave102 Local> create table a ( col1 number );

(I posted this in ejb but didn't really get a solution that works)
I'm able to set the isolation level of a CMT using weblogic-ejb-jar.xml without
any problems. Below is a snipet which shows how that:
<transaction-isolation> <isolation-level>TRANSACTION_READ_COMMITTED</isolation-level>
<method>
Transaction isolation for StateHandlerMessage

<ejb-name>StateHandlerMessage</ejb-name> <method-name>*</method-name> </method>
</transaction-isolation>
That works perfectly for a CMT bean, however it does not seem to work for a BMT.
I'm using weblogic81 in development mode with an oracle jdriver and it seems my
BMT bean is getting an isolation level of TRANSACTION_SERIALIZABLE.
Is this a bug? If not how do I set the isolation level for a BMT bean? (I don't
think I can using Connection.setIsolationLevel since I don't have a connection
within my Session and Message Beans)
thanks!
lance
But weblogic.transaction.Transaction does have setProperty method and you should
be able to use :
weblogic.transaction.TxHelper.getTransaction().setProperty() to set that property.

Does anyone know of a way to capture the current isolation level for a given transaction,
in particular w/ a CMP entity bean?
I'm using the P6SPY driver to capture debug information, but I never see a call
to Connection.setTransactionIsolation(). Therefore, I have no way to know if
my transaction is running with Serializable level, the level I've set in my weblogic-ejb-jar.xml
file.
Running WLS 6.1 and JConnect 5.5.
Thanks,
Jim
Just tried the code below. Compiles -- that id good ;)
When I'm outside transaction I get weblogic.transaction.TxHelper.getTransaction()
== null.
That is to be expected.
When I'm inside transaction the property value is null. Properties that I can
get:
[0] key
weblogic.transaction.name val [EJB om.moveitonline.framewo
[1] key weblogic.jdbc val t3://10.1.26.51:7001.
Questions:
a) How to get the isolation level anyway?
b) What are the integer values for isolation levels (i.e. constants)?
