How to avoid transaction overhead in oracle ?

Hi ,
My database has 85 lakhs records already, during working hours,in single minute 20 records are being inserted into my table.at the same time some users trying to fetch the data from same table .so after long wait ,i m getting script time out error . as for my knowlege oracle will not support ALTER SESSION SET ISOLATION_LEVEL READ UNCOMMITTED. is there any other way to read the data from table irrespective of insert/update/delete. i am using dynamic queries in storeprocedures to fetch the data from table.any suggestion would be very helpful . Thanks in advance.

during working hours,in single minute 20 records are being inserted into my table.at the same time some users trying to fetch the data from same > table .so after long wait ,i m getting script time out error . That is an application problem and not an Oracle problem. Row locks are explicit locks that are caused by application SQL. Not by Oracle due to lock escalation (that does not exist in Oracle).
So a row lock means that one application says it wants to change that row - which means other application processes can read that row (readers are not blocked). However, any other application process that wants to lock that same row for change will be blocked and needs to wait for that row to be unlocked.
Oracle locking is in a nutshell as simple as this.
If you are "seeing" different behaviour, then your application code is the cause of the problem. Not Oracle.
And I would not be touching Oracle transaction isolation levels to fix problems in application code.
Is there any other way to read the data from table irrespective of insert/update/delete. No. Not needed. A row lock NEVER blocks a select on that row. Oracle provides read consistency despite locking of rows and tables. This is called multi-version consistency control.
i am using dynamic queries in storeprocedures to fetch the data from table.And that is where your code and your design fails. <b><font color="red">Dynamic code is WRONG.</font></b>*
Why is it (almost ways) wrong? Never mind the fact that 99% of developers are incapable of designing and writing dynamic code (based on OTN postings here), relational data models are not dynamic. Not when correctly designed.
<i>* Obviously dynamic code is not always wrong. But as far as the average skill level go of developers that post here, it is.</i>

    hi dear all in recent times i am trying to install oracle developer suite 10g to learn forms and reports in my lap having windows 7 ultimate version ,32 bit,2.56 GB of ram .I downloaded two files ds_windows_x86_101202_disk1 and ds_window_x86_101202_disk2 and i downloaded Oracle universal Installer but i am unable to complete installation process ,When i click on complete(1.11gb) version which include forms,reports,xml,j developer I am facing this type of error message
    "Install has encountered an error while attempting to verify your virtual settings.please verify that the sum of the initial sizes of the paging files is at least 256 mb"
    Could any one help how to avoid this type of error message ? or else is there any other way to download Oracle forms and reports version

    Ok, Oracle Developer Suite (ODS) 10g (Forms/Reports) was not designed for Windows 7. In order to the ODS you must follow these steps for the installation to be successful.
    1. You must set the Virtual Memory (VM) size. The Oracle installer can not read Windows Managed VM. See the Microsoft article Change the size of virtual memory for more information on setting the VM size.
    2. The Oracle Installer does not recognize the internal version number of Windows 7, so you have to set the compatibility mode on the Setup.exe to Windows XP. Right-Click the SETUP.EXE and select properties. Then click the Compatibility Tab and in the Compatibility Mode area set this to "Run this program in compatibility mode" and select "Windows XP SP3".
    3. You must run the ODS setup.exe as the Administrator. Right-click the setup.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
    Having done these three steps, your installation should be successful.
    Hope this helps,

  • How to avoid Duplicate values in Oracle forms

    Hello Everyone,
    I am new to Oracle forms, working on Oracle Applications : 12.1.2,
    Here I have a form Receiving Transactions,
    in that I have Lot_Number and quantity columns.
    The purchased items need to be stored in Lot number.
    If 100 quantities purchased then 100 quantities can be stored in single lot number
    i.e
    Lot_Number         Qty
      001                100or 100 quantities can be stored in different lot numbers.
    i.e
    Lot_Number         Qty
      001                50
      002                50(The qty may differ)but not like the following,
    Lot_Number          Qty
      001                 50
      001                 50.For second line,If they selected same lot number as First lot number,
    The error message has to be shown as "Lot number duplicated,Select Different Lot number or update the full qty in original line".
    Can anyone help me to solve this.

    Hi François Degrelle,
    I added the following Plsql in the 'When-validate-Item' block,
    declare
    l_current_number varchar2(80);
    begin
    l_current_number := :lot_entry.lot_number;
    first_record;
    loop
      if l_current_number = :lot_entry.lot_number then
         message ('Duplicate');
      end if;
      next_record;
    end loop;Its started to check from First record itself and giving the message 'Duplicate',
    How to check from second record?
    when the first record is entered it should not check when the second record is entered it should compare with the First record value and if it is same then it should give message as 'Duplicate'.
    Thank you.

  • How to avoid readClassDesc overhead

    Hi,
    This is my first post to this forum. I'm an Oracle employee -- a developer on the Berkeley DB Java Edition and Oracle NoSQL Database teams. I have a question about serialization performance using RMI.
    We've been doing CPU profiling of the client side of an Oracle NoSQL Database app. Our RMI remote method looks something like this:
    Response doClientOperation(Request req)The Request and Response objects are both fairly large object graphs, and are Externalizable. Our writeExternal/readExternal methods perform custom serialization and never call writeObject or readObject.
    We're trying to maximize request processing performance, as you can probably guess.
    It turns out that around 6.5% of the client CPU time is used by a single method call, during deserialization of the Response object: ObjectInputStream.readClassDesc. Even though Response is Externalizable, readClassDesc is called as a result of RMI's call to ObjectInputStream.readObject.
    The striking thing is that the cost of readClassDesc overshadows the cost of readExternal, in spite of the object graph being fairly large.
    I was wondering if there is any known trick for avoiding the readClassDesc call, or speeding it up. For example, if there were a way of subclassing ObjectInputStream, perhaps I could do this myself, but I don't see a factory or any other means of subclassing.
    If there is a solution, or future plans for a solution, or even a statement that no solution is planned, I would appreciate knowing that. Sorry if this has already been asked. I couldn't find an answer by searching the forum, but perhaps I missed it.
    Thanks,

    Hello Esmond,
    The OTN forums for Berkeley DB, to which I contribute as a BDB developer, are not just user-to-user. The BDB developers monitor the forums and answer questions. Are you sure this forum is only user-to-user?
    I am aware that the RMI developers work at Oracle. But I would prefer to ask a question about the RMI public API in a public forum so that non-Oracle users can benefit from the discussion. I often ask Oracle internal users of BDB to post to our forum, for the same reason.

  • How to avoid replication of certain transaction types

    Hi all,
      Contract is created in the R/3 system of transaction type Z111. This transaction type is not created in CRM in the SPRO(customer relationship management -> Transactions ->basic settings -> Define transaction types). This means documents of this transaction type cannot be created in CRM or documents created in R/3 should not be replicated to CRM.
    How to avoid the documents created in R/3 of transaction type Z111 from being replicated to R/3. Should some settings be done in transaction "FIBF" in R/3???
    Any idea.
    Thanks in advance
    Jothi

    Hi Gun,
      Thanks for the answer. In salescontract (Tcode R3AC1) the following filter condition is defined.
    Table - vbak
    field -auart
    Value - z910
    Incl/Excl - inclusive defined set/array
    But the value z900 is not specifed. The Bus_trans_msg which gets replicated into CRM is of type z900.
    Hence any idea.
    Can an additional filter be added saying as follows to prevent replication of Z900 like this.
    Table - vbak
    field -auart
    value - z900
    Incl/Excl - space
    Will this solve the problem.
    Best regards

  • How to avoid db file parallel read for nestloop?

    After upgraded to 11gr2, one job took more than twice as long as before on 10g and 11gr1 with compatibility being 10.2.0.
    Same hardware. (See AWR summary below). My analysis points to that Nestloop is doing index range scan for the inner table's index segment,
    and then use db file parallel read to read data from the table segment, and for reasons that I don't know, the parallel read is very slow.
    AVG wait is more than 300ms. How can I fluence optimier to choose db file sequential read to fetch data block from inner table by tweaking
    parameters? Thanks. YD

    Its not possible to say anything just by looking at the events.You must understand that statspacks and AWR actualy aggergate the data and than show the results.There may be a very well possibility that some other areas also need to be looked at rather than just focussin on one event.
    You have not mentioned any kind of other info about the wait event like their timings and all that.PLease provide that too.
    And if I understood your question corretly,you said,
    How to avoid these wait events?
    What may be the cause?
    I am afraid that its not possible to discuss each of these wait event here in complete details and also not about what to do when you see them.Please read teh Performance Tuning book which narrates these wait events and corresponding actions.

    How to avoid performance problems in PL/SQL?
    As per my knowledge, below some points to avoid performance proble in PL/SQL.
    Is there other point to avoid performance problems?
    1. Use FORALL instead of FOR, and use BULK COLLECT to avoid looping many times.
    2. EXECUTE IMMEDIATE is faster than DBMS_SQL
    3. Use NOCOPY for OUT and IN OUT if the original value need not be retained. Overhead of keeping a copy of OUT is avoided.

    Susil Kumar Nagarajan wrote:
    1. Group no of functions or procedures into a PACKAGEPutting related functions and procedures into packages is useful from a code organization standpoint. It has nothing whatsoever to do with performance.
    2. Good to use collections in place of cursors that do DML operations on large set of recordsBut using SQL is more efficient than using PL/SQL with bulk collects.
    4. Optimize SQL statements if they need to
    -> Avoid using IN, NOT IN conditions or those cause full table scans in queriesThat is not true.
    -> See to queries they use Indexes properly , sometimes Leading index column is missed out that cause performance overheadAssuming "properly" implies that it is entirely possible that a table scan is more efficient than using an index.
    5. use Oracle HINTS if query can't be further tuned and hints can considerably help youHints should be used only as a last resort. It is almost certainly the case that if you can use a hint that forces a particular plan to improve performance that there is some problem in the underlying statistics that should be fixed in order to resolve issues with many queries rather than just the one you're looking at.

    Triggers should not be used for non-transactional purposes like this.
    A simple SELECT . . . WHERE (myLock = 'UNLOCKED') FOR UPDATE can be used to query the record and lock it if the lock is not already set. Then your code can update the lock value and that will prevent the same query by other users from being successful.
    But you haven't really provided any information about what you are trying to do.
    If you want to prevent two processes from executing at the same time you can use Oracle's LOCK functionality.
    See this thread for how to use DBMS_LOCK to create your own locks that can serialize access to your procedures.

    How to avoid ViewObject or ApplicationModule cache?
    Is there any method in Oracle API (oracle.jbo, oracle.jbo.server, ...) to do this?
    null

    Objects returned from queries against your session are the shared/cached instances and should not be changed. Changes applied directly against these instances will not be reflected in the database.
    To apply changes against objects within a transaction and isolate these changes from other thread while they are pending you must use a UnitOfWork. The UnitOfWork will provide you a transactional isolated working copy where changes can be safely made. Then when the UnitOfWork is committed the minimal change-set is calculated and written to the database prior to being merged into the shared cache.

  • How to avoid data lost in Dataguard failover ?

    Hi gurus,
    We are implementing Dataguard with manual failover (Not with Fast Start feature)
    How to avoid/minimize lost of data if the primary server goes down before the last log is sent ?
    Thank you for your help,
    xtanto

    Most important the dataguard protection mode, you have 3 choices: Maximum Performance,Maximum Availability,Maximum Protection . If you are interested in no data loss choose Maximum Protection, that's the definition:
    Maximum Protection
    This protection mode ensures that zero data loss occurs if a primary database fails. To
    provide this level of protection, the redo data needed to recover a transaction must be
    written to both the online redo log and to at least one synchronized standby database
    before the transaction commits. To ensure that data loss cannot occur, the primary
    database will shut down, rather than continue processing transactions, if it cannot
    write its redo stream to at least one synchronized standby database.
    Because this data protection mode prioritizes data protection over primary database
    availability, Oracle recommends that a minimum of two standby databases be used to
    protect a primary database that runs in maximum protection mode to prevent a single
    standby database failure from causing the primary database to shut down.
    For details see the documentation for your unknown database version.

  • How to avoid the duplicate values, I do not want the duplicate............

    i have one database table called "sms1" that table is updated every day or on daily basis it has the following fields in it:
    SQL> desc sms1;
    Name Null? Type
    MOBILE NUMBER
    RCSTCNATCNATCNATCNAWTHER VARCHAR2(39 CHAR)
    SNO NUMBER
    INDATE DATE
    From this table the is one column "RCSTCNATCNATCNATCNAWTHER VARCHAR2(39 CHAR)" . I am splitting it into different columns like :
    SQL> desc smssplit;
    Name Null? Type
    R VARCHAR2(2 CHAR)
    C VARCHAR2(2 CHAR)
    S VARCHAR2(1 CHAR)
    TC VARCHAR2(3 CHAR)
    NA VARCHAR2(3 CHAR)
    TC2 VARCHAR2(3 CHAR)
    NA2 VARCHAR2(3 CHAR)
    TC3 VARCHAR2(3 CHAR)
    NA3 VARCHAR2(3 CHAR)
    TC4 VARCHAR2(3 CHAR)
    NA4 VARCHAR2(3 CHAR)
    WTHER VARCHAR2(10 CHAR)
    SNO NUMBER
    INSERTDATA VARCHAR2(25 CHAR)
    Now I am written a procedure to insert the data from "Sms1" table to smssplit table...
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE SPLITSMS
    AS
    BEGIN
    INSERT INTO scott.SMSSPLIT ( R,C,S,TC,NA,TC2,NA2,TC3,NA3,TC4,NA4,WTHER,SNO)
    SELECT SUBSTR(RCSTCNATCNATCNATCNAWTHER,1,2) R,
    SUBSTR(RCSTCNATCNATCNATCNAWTHER,3,2) C,
    SUBSTR(RCSTCNATCNATCNATCNAWTHER,5,1) S,
    SUBSTR(RCSTCNATCNATCNATCNAWTHER,6,3) TC,
    SUBSTR(RCSTCNATCNATCNATCNAWTHER,9,3) NA,
    SUBSTR(RCSTCNATCNATCNATCNAWTHER,12,3) TC2,
    SUBSTR(RCSTCNATCNATCNATCNAWTHER,15,3) NA2,
    SUBSTR(RCSTCNATCNATCNATCNAWTHER,18,3) TC3,
    SUBSTR(RCSTCNATCNATCNATCNAWTHER,21,3) NA3,
    SUBSTR(RCSTCNATCNATCNATCNAWTHER,24,3) TC4,
    SUBSTR(RCSTCNATCNATCNATCNAWTHER,27,3) NA4,
    SUBSTR(RCSTCNATCNATCNATCNAWTHER,30,10) WTHER, SNO
    FROM scott.SMS1 where SNO=(select MAX (sno) from SMS1);
    END;
    Now in order to update the second table with data from first table on regular basis I have written a job scheduler and I am using oracle 9.0. version...
    DECLARE
    X NUMBER;
    JobNumber NUMBER;
    BEGIN
    SYS.DBMS_JOB.SUBMIT
    job => X
    ,what => 'scott.SPLITSMS;'
    ,next_date => SYSDATE+1/1440
    ,interval => 'SYSDATE+1/1440 '
    ,no_parse => FALSE
    :JobNumber := to_char(X);
    END;

  • How can I code this in Oracle Forms?

    I have a master-detail form. In the detail block, I have several records. Here is my name table.
    ID Name_Type Name
    1 old Mike
    2 Current John
    3 old Peter
    4 old Andrew
    I would like to create a button trigger which shall perform the following:
    1) insert a record into database with a copy of current value. In the above case it will insert create a record for John as name_type = 'OLD'. So we have total of 5 records. Commit the transaction.
    2) Scroll through my detail records (5) and go to one specific record and erase the values from it. In the above case, it should find John's record with name_type = 'Current' and erase John from it.
    How can I accomplish this in Oracle forms using a button-pressed trigger?

    Hi,
    Simple, using current values you can create new id , 'old' and name so oracle will create record, now refresh block, next using next_record in loop you can find record,erase one and refresh block.

  • LD_ASSUME_KERNEL does not work in recent distros. How to avoid?

    LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.XX does not work in all recent distros.
    $ export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.20
    $ ls
    ls: error while loading shared libraries: librt.so.1: cannot open shared object
    EBS contains very old cmponents like MWA wich not compiled without this setting. How to avoid errors?

    You can unset LD_ASSUME_KERNEL and EBS 11i (11.5.9 and 11.5.10) will work fine on 2.6.16 kernels (SLES-10 and RH 5.0).
    The following instructions should get you going:
    1) Setup the environment as you would for running Applications on RH 4 or SLES9
    I.E. follow Oracle Applications Installation Update Notes, Release 11i (11.5.10.2)
    http://metalink.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=316806.1
    2) Remove any LD_ASSUME_KERNEL references in O/S /etc/profile.d files
    3) Comment out LD_ASSUME_KERNEL entries in $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/bin/adgetlnxver.sh and $AD_TOP/bin/adgetlnxver.sh
    if [ ${setflag}x = "x" -a $os = "Suse" ]; then
    # LD_ASSUME_KERNEL="2.4.21"
    # export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL
         os="Suse"
    fi
    if [ ${setflag}x = "x" -a $os = "RH" ]; then
    # LD_ASSUME_KERNEL="2.4.19"
    # export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL
         os = "RH"
    fi
    If doing a rapid install, the database startup will fail and rapidwiz will prompt to ignore or retry. At this point, edit $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/bin/adgetlnxver.sh as shown above and click on retry. It will then run to the autoconfig step at the end and error out. Just hit cancel, edit $AD_TOP/bin/adgetlnxver.sh and run autoconfig.
    On Suse, one needs compat-gdbm for libgdbm.so.2
    rpm -Uhv compat-gdbm-1.8.0-7.i586.rpm
    Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
    1:compat-gdbm ########################################### [100%]
    Also in /usr/lib run ln -s libdb.so.2 libdb.so.3
    Ref:
    Note:300807.1 for Suse
    create symbolic link called libdb.so.2 pointing to libdb.so.3, as follows:
    $ cd /usr/lib
    $ ln -s libdb.so.3 libdb.so.2 (or install db1-1.85-85.1 which does the same)
    Note:294043.1 for Red Hat
    As per an internal Bug 4045349, this is an issue with O/S side installation of compat-db rpm.
    libdb.so.3 gets installed when compat-db rpm is installed.
    - The O/S installation CD would contain compat-db
    e.g compat-db-4.1.25-6.i386.rpm ( may change as per your version ).
    - Manually install the compat-db rpm
    e..g "rpm -ivh compat-db-4.1.25-6.i386.rpm"
    OR
    Note:345172.1
    A library is missing: libdb.so.2 is from gnome-libs-1.4.1.2.90-34.1.i386.
    This error also occurs in SLES9, same cause, slightly different resolution. SLES9 comes with libdb.so.3 and libdb.so.4 but not libdb.so.2 - need to install db1-1.85-85.1 to get libdb.so.2.
    4) In order to relink cplex library executables (MSC, MSO, MSR, MST, WIP, etc), edit $AD_TOP/bin/adrelinknew.sh and add the following LD option (-Wl,--noinhibit-exec) in the LINUX section:
    LINUX)
    LDFLAGS='-s -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib/stubs -ldl'
    DEBUG_LDFLAGS='-g -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib/stubs -ldl'
    exe_line='ELF .*executable'
    SHRLIB_LD='gcc'
    LD='gcc'
    SHRLIB_LDFLAGS='-L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib/stubs -shared'
    if test -f "/etc/redhat-release"; then
         CPP_LIBS='/usr/lib/libstdc++-2-libc6.1-1-2.9.0.so'
    elif test -f "/etc/SuSE-release"; then
         CPP_LIBS='/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.2.9'
    else
    CPP_LIBS=''
    fi
    CPP='g++'
    CPP_LDFLAGS='-s -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib/stubs
    set CPP_LDFLAGS='-s -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib/stubs
    to CPP_LDFLAGS='-s -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib -L$(ORACLE_HOME)/lib/stubs -Wl,--noinhibit-exec'
    After this chance, you can apply any MRP, ASCP patch and all executables will relink correctly. You can also use adadmin to relink all executables and it completes without error.
    5) Discoverer 4.1.38.08 Follow Metalink Note 280598.1 Discoverer 4i On Linux: Required Patch and Configuration for Discoverer Server Stability to use JDK 1.3.1 and oadj. I updated the autoconfig template files with this change after applying 3895177. Discoverer viewer and plus standard BIS reports all open correctly on SLES-10
