Issue on joins and filters
Hi folks,
I have total 20 tables to join in an interface.All are left outer joins on multiple tables.Now when i apply Filter condition with IN or OR it is throwing me an error
saying that when ur using outerjoins u cant use the operands IN or OR.
1)what is this error?
2)what is the difference between unordered or orderd(ISO) options in topology
3) which joins do we need to use unorderd or ordered (ISO)
4) will the above two options will effect filters conditions in an interface?
Thanks in advance
Raj
Hi Rathish,
Thanks for ur reply.The error is at insert rows step

How to define the order of GROUPBYs, JOINs and FILTERS in an interface?
Hello,
I would like to define an interface which implements the following logic:
Give me a list of all customers with less then 2 orders in status = 'A'.
SELECT C.Name, o.cnt
FROM CUSTOMER C
LEFT OUTER JOIN (SELECT cust_id, count(*) cnt FROM ORDERS WHERE status = 'A' GROUP BY cust_id) O
ON C.cust_id = O.cust_id
WHERE O.cnt < 2 OR O.cust_id IS NULL
In this case, the right order of operations is essential:
First apply filter, then group, then join, then apply the second filter.
How can I define this in an ODI interface?
Thanks in advance for any hints...
Best regards,
KarolDefining JOINs order :
1 - Go in topology manager and verify that your technologie support the ISO ordered join ( left inner join ...)
NB : by default Oracle data sources are configured with the old syntax ( ie : columns(+)=expr )
- Open technology Oracle: Check SQL ISO
- Go to the SQL tab
- select "FROM" in the filter place
- verify the join syntax
2 - Define the alias order in the source table
3 - Check the ordered join (ISO) and a num-order on the join operator
Defining GROUPBYs and FILTERS orders seems to be impossible
but you can create a mapping as a view and use this mapping as a source in an other one ! -

Every PC_COVKEY, query should recursively join and generate set of records depending on latest SEQUENCE_ALPHA for the coverage number at that point of time. For ex,
for 10020335P8017MT0010042 (4 row) should generate 2 records
1. 10020335P8017MT0010042001004 (PC_COVKEY || COVERAGE_NUMBER || latest SEQUENCE_ALPHA--004 for cover 001), SEQUENCE_ALPHA 001 for cover 001 is not the latest for 10020335P8017MT0010042.

Join, and filter...
When doing a join, and filtering, I want the filter to be applied first. For example
if the callDisp file for the given date has 18 rows, and the treeProject has 47 records
SELECT COUNT(*) from treeProject, callDisp
Where
treeProject.projectcode = callDisp.projectcode(+) and
treeProject.childcode = callDisp.disp(+) and
treeProject.projectcode = 'project' and
calldisp.dispDateTime >= to_date( '01-14-2003', 'MM-DD-YYYY' );
COUNT(*)
17
The idea is to list all of the rows meeting the critera in the treeproject, by doing the outer join on the callDisp table. Which works fine if the datetime part of the query is not entered. I tried modifing the query to add the nulls:
SELECT COUNT(*) from treeProject, callDisp
Where
treeProject.projectcode = callDisp.projectcode(+) and
treeProject.childcode = callDisp.disp(+) and
treeProject.projectcode = 'project' and
calldisp.dispDateTime >= to_date( '01-14-2003', 'MM-DD-YYYY' ) or
calldisp.dispDateTime is null
COUNT(*)
18
or even:
SELECT COUNT(*) from treeProject, callDisp
Where
treeProject.projectcode = callDisp.projectcode(+) and
treeProject.childcode = callDisp.disp(+Long postings are being truncated to ~1 kB at this time.or even:
SELECT COUNT(*) from treeProject, callDisp
Where
treeProject.projectcode = callDisp.projectcode(+) and
treeProject.childcode = callDisp.disp(+) and
treeProject.projectcode = 'project' and
calldisp.dispDateTime >= to_date( '01-14-2003', 'MM-DD-YYYY' ) or
nvl(calldisp.dispDateTime,to_date( '01-14-2003', 'MM-DD-YYYY' ) ) = to_date( '01-14-2003', 'MM-DD-YYYY' )
COUNT(*)
18
But without getting the desired results. I want the filter to occur first, and the join to occur last.
Thanks

Color not sending transitions and filters back to FCP 7
Hey People!
I'm currently editing a 30 minute doc for broadcast in Final Cut Pro 7. Before sending to color, I duplicated the master and made it into two 15 minute halves.
I left all transitions and effects intact, which I usually do. I only use cross dissolves. All video is on Track 1.
After correcting the first half I sent it back to FCP without an issue. Transitions and filters remained.
When I finished up with the second half and sent it back to FCP - there were no transitions or filters.
I've tried re-conforming and re-rendering but with no luck.
Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.First off, there's no need to break it up into two sections. Color in FCP 7 handles 30 min sequences just fine. I've done 48 min ones fine.
So you exported an XML from FCP 7, and imported that into Color to reconform, and send back, and it didn't help? What codec are you sending to Color...? -

EA1 - SQL Formatter issues (JOINs and GROUPs and ORDER BY oh my ;)
Great job with improving the SQL Formatter, but it still has some bugs that need to be worked out.
The key words JOIN and it's modifiers INNER, LEFT, RIGHT and FULL OUTER are not recognized as master key words. As such they end up flush against the left margin Also when GROUP BY and/or ORDER BY key words are present in an outer most select statement the other key words are not indented far enough to be right aligned with the end of the word BY and are indented too far to be right aligned with the word GROUP or ORDER. In sub queries, GROUP and ORDER BY are correctly right aligned with their respective SELECT statements.We're picking up and collating the Formatter issues. I'll add these.
Specific bug for these #7013462

iPhone WiFi issue. I enter a password, click join, and get a message back that it is an incorrect password. I have several computers and other iPhones connected using the same password. Any ideas?
Hey there Gordo456,
It sounds like you are not able to join your Wi-Fi network with the correct password on 1 out of many devices. I recommend the troubleshooting from the article named:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Restart your iOS device.
Update your device to the latest version of software.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware2. For AirPort Base Stations, install updates using the AirPort Utility.
If that troubleshooting does not resolve the issue, I would next try these steps from further down the article:
Unable to connect to a Wi-Fi network
Verify that you're attempting to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Make sure you're entering your Wi-Fi password correctly. Passwords may be case sensitive and may contain numbers or special characters.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including:
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
recently used Bluetooth accessories
VPN and APN settings.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Clarification of Servlet Spec for forwarding and filters
Hi everybody,
I'm having a problem trying to use SiteMesh in WebLogic 9.1 vs Tomcat 5.5.17. The issue seems to come up because the two containers have different behavior when it comes to forwarding and filters.
The scenario is this: A request comes in to a servlet, that servlet forwards to a JSP page using RequestDispatcher.forward(). The SiteMesh filter looks at request.getServletPath() after the chain has executed and determines whether or not to apply the decoration based on the path of the page. The filter's doFilter() method looks something like :
chain.doFilter(request, response)
if(request.getServletPath() = matchingPath)
applyDecoration();
}Now, in Tomcat, a call to request.getServletPath() before and after the call to chain.doFilter() returns the exact same thing, regardless of whether the target servlet executes a forward. But in WebLogic, the call to getServletPath() after chain.doFilter() returns the forwarded path, not the original path.
Who is right? Or is this one of those gray areas?
Thanks,
ScottThanks for the info. You are correct, I was using 'forward'. I changed it to use 'sendRedirect' and this time the request goes via the filter. However, the request parameters that were in the original request have disappeared after the 'sendRedirect'. I could just add all the request parameters to the string I pass to sendredirect but was wondering if there was a better/simpler way.
Thanks,

When two tables are joined and there is a where predicate, what is done first ?
1) the WHERE in order to filter the records being joined.
2) the JOIN and after both tables are together with all their records Oracle filters according to the where predicate ?
Thanks.It depends on the information available to the optimizer. In most cases, Oracle will use any predictes on the driving table to filter rows from that table before joining to the other table. Whether it applies predicates to the other table before or after joining depends on the selectivity of the predicate implied by the join compared to any other predicates.

Hash semi join and join selectivity
Hi,
I'm looking for an explanation of the rule-of-thumb that hash joins are more efficient for high selectivity joins.
If I have a query with two tables, semi-joined together using an EXISTS clause, why would a hash join be better for a high selectivity join as opposed to a low selectivity join?
To clarify, my definition of selectivity is:
selectivity = # of rows returned / # of rows processed
Or in more database specific terms:
selectivity = num_rows/cardinality
Selectivity is a value between 0 and 1, so by high selectivity, I mean a selectivity value closer to 1.
Thanks for any input.

the question is "more efficient" than ... what?
A hash join is usually the most efficient operation if you have to join a large set or two large sets. Often the hash join operation performs full table scans as part of the join operation, but not necessarily.
The cost of the hash join depends on the volume to join, the available memory and the resulting operation (optimal / one-pass / multi-pass). If the hash table can be kept in memory then it's simply the cost to read the first data set used as hash table, the cost of reading the probe table and the CPU cost of processing the hash join. If the hash table doesn't fit into memory, it depends on how often the build (hash) table and probe data needs to be read (one-pass / multi-pass) to perform the join with the hash table.
If you have a "low selectivity" join, and I assume you mean that the join actually filters out many rows by "low selectivity", then other join operations might be more effective, like a NESTED LOOP that uses the smaller table to iterate via an index access over the second table, selectively picking the rows corresponding to the first table. Depending on the number of iterations and the number of rows of the second table to process per iteration this can be very efficient, but tends to be very inefficient if the iterations and/or number of rows in second table is significantly larger than estimated.

Hello,
I have recently bought the P9981 through eBay. However, I am facing issues with BBM and emails.
After I have received the phone and I updated the BBM and the software I recognized that the BBM wasn't working although I have a BlackBerry plan with At&t that is working just fine with my old bold blackberry 9900.
I have contacted the seller and he told me that BBM wouldn't be working because there is no BIS/ BES on this device.
After I updated the BBM I am not able to access the BBM because it shows a message saying
"Cannot Set Up BBM" and other times it shows "Setting up BBM" but it doesn't set it up !
I've searched for solutions online put I found nothing.
I called At&t and make sure that everything is activated but still it didn't work.
Although when I first started the phone I was able to access the BBM however, it wasn't working when I tried adding people.
I am not sure if I would be able to make it work !
Please advice !!
Thank you,Hi and Welcome to the Community!
There's nothing to add to your BB per se. Using the BB-specific services is a matter of your carrier providing those to you. And there are some things that must happen for them to do so.
Any BB can be used on any carrier that runs the same radio frequencies that the BB is capable of (and I've no idea if your's are such). But, to bring a BB onto a carrier network that they did not sell to you, there are several hurdles to cross:
1) The carrier must say "yes" to the fact...they own their network and have every right to say what devices will be allowed to connect to it. If they say "no", then that's the end of it.
2) You must be sure that your BB is properly unlocked from it's originally manufactured-for carrier...see this helpful thread for details:
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/General-BlackBerry-Functions-and/Unlocking-your-BlackBerry-Gu...
3) You must get all of your voice level services functioning on the carrier, before you even try anything about data
4) You must subscribe, from the carrier, to an adequate data plan to enable the BB-proprietary services you desire
5a) If the carrier directly supports your specific model BB, then you can proceed with registering the BB onto their network, generating the proper Service Book delivery to your BB, and proceeding to function.
5b) But, if the carrier does not directly support your specific model number of BB (which, from what I can tell, the AT&T network does not automatically support the 9981), then the challenges are much greater as most carrier systems will not deliver, to the BB, the necessary service books to enable the BB-proprietary data services, even if you do subscribe to them.
So, depending on all of that, your BB may or may not ever fully function on that carrier network. It can be quite tricky to accomplish, especially if 5b applies. So take a look at all of that and decide how you wish to proceed. Most folks wind up just buying a new BB if 5b applies.
The official download portal is what I use to determine if a carrier network natively and automatically supports a specific BB model number:
http://us.blackberry.com/support/apps-and-software/desktop-and-device-download-sites.html
But, that should be validated by asking the carrier the specific question: "Does your network natively support the P9981 for automatic registration and delivery of service books?".
Good luck and let us know!

One design issue about merge and equivalent DDL
Hi All,
My DB is 11.1. RAC 4 nodes.
Today I encountered one SQL that did merge and ran very slowly. After tuning, it
cost more than 2 hrs to finish.
According to Oracle manual and my own understanding,
1.MERGE itself can't have inner-partition parallelism. So if the target table is
non-partitioned, PML doesn't work here.
2.MERGE genertes redo and can't be suppressed.
So I think whether an equivalent CTAS works better, considering about daily
increments are relatively large amount comparing to the target table.
Pseudo SQL looks like:
create table new_table
parallel 4 nologging
as
select case
when target_table_join_columns is null
then new_line
when source_table_join_columns is null
then original_line
when both are not null
then updated_line
from target_table t full outer join source_table s
on ... join columns;
(It's just a sample.)
The advantages I can see is:
1. Far less redo.
2. Parallel
The disadvantages I can see is:
1. More spaces
2. Full load not incremental.
I know I have to benchmark it and consider about all cases. But has anybody encountered the similar issues before? And whether you get benefits from this kind of change?
Best regards,
LeonHi,
you have to set the correct permissions on the HFMAnswers Folder.
But it depends a bit on your exact requirement....users must be able to save reports under the shared folder or only my folders?
What you need a least are some groups to make distinction between who can see which reports and who can use which functionality within oracle bi.
Do you have that clear? This way you can try to setup a generic security framework.
Kr,
