Issue with finder screen sharing.

My iOS development partner and I are currently having issues with screen sharing through the finder.  Prior to installing OSX Mavericks there was no issue with adding each other as users to each others computer, but after the install is when the problem started happening.  At the root level there are multiple users on each other's computers with our corresponding names but they don't appear in Users and Groups.  So, having phantom users on each other's computers, we took them into the Genius Bar at our local apple store.  They tried a few different methods, none of which worked, and had us reinstall the operating system and now we're back at square one having to resort to using the "permission" screen share as opposed to just being able to screen share directly though user accounts that we previously set in system preferences. I used the following console command, but it doesn't show the same accounts in the Users and Groups under System Preferences.: (dscl . list /Users | grep -v "^_") Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
Currently running Software  OS X 10.9.1 (13B42) on both machines.

  • Having security issue with SL Screen Sharing

    Hello,
Maybe I am missing some new setting in Snow Leopard that increases screen sharing security, but as it is, screen sharing is now insecure on my network.
Prior to Snow Leopard I would log into my Mac from another without selecting the "remember this password in my keychain"... after finishing the session, I would again be asked for my password before ropening a new screen sharing session. All machines on the network were Leopard.
Now, with all macs on the network Snow leopard, on one of the machines I can log on in the morning, work for a while, quit screen sharing, and go back in an hour and start sharing that mac's screen with no password required. Anoyone else can can do this also! I have checked the keychain on the Mac I am viewing from and there does not seem to be an entry there for screen sharing.
On another of the Snow machines it always asks for the password, but on 2 of them, once I have started viewing another Mac's screen a password is no longer required regardless of the fact that I haven't checked that "remember password" .
This means that after I leave a Mac from screen sharing it, someone else has full access to that machine just by clicking on the Share Screen button... unless I can close the hole somehow.
Any ideas or a way to fix this would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi all,
I just upgraded to Snow 10.6.2 so through 2 separate updates, this security hole on all 3 Macs on my network exists.
To test it I went to an office and opened a screen on another (Snow Leopard) Mac that was set up to allow users only to connect. I then quit Screen sharing, and returned 3 hours later, only to be able to open the Hard Disk window and return to that Mac's screen without any passwords required. I was very careful not to allow the Keychain to remember me.
Since I originally posted I see another thread has begun up expressing essentially the same issue.
I would strongly advise anyone who uses Snow Leopard in a secure environment , at least through 10.6.2, to disable screen sharing or risk unauthorized access, or monitoring, of their Macs from within their networks. Screen Sharing's security settings (if they work at all) do not work on Snow Leopard the same as they worked on Leopard.
I have not found a fix for this in the 3 weeks since I first noticed it other than to disable it, or restart the Mac I started the session from, then it will ask for a password, but that is hardly an acceptable fix in some secure or corporate environments (akin to having to restart in order to empty the browser cache when accessing webMail lol)

I have a group of my images that rotate, and yes it happens oneach. I do believethat I have at one time had the images cover the entire screen, however I cannor remember how I made that happen, just like the desktop. I am sure it is old'ites setting in!

Issue with blank screen  HP G60-447CL Notebook PC, I purchased warranty and have had the laptop serviced before for the same exact issue.  Same problem has come up again blank screen it has been less than five months this problem was fixed and it has started again:  blank screen white, laptop is powered on nothing else happens.  Now I cannot reach anyone.

    You're very welcome.
I have tried many times to help folks with different drivers and nothing has worked.
I'd say at least a dozen people have posted about this issue, and no one can fix it.
    I don't understand it either.

We run an iMac 3.4 GHz I7 in our church worship service; we have front screens and a stage display monitor ; we haven't upgraded to Mavericks because we heard about issues with multiple screens crashing.  Has this issue been resolved?  Now that we are 2 upgrades behind, I'm getting little concerned.  Thank you!

Oh, well that was a whole other kettle of fish:
Oh the G4 I attempted to install iLife '08 before Lepoard was available. About the only thing that installed cleanly was iPhoto. I ended up reinstalling everything back to iLife '06, and then upgrading back to the current stable version of the iLife '06 version. I didn't attempt a reinstall until after I upgraded to Leopard.
When I did reinstall, I made a iLife '06 folder, copied all iLife apps into it, and upgraded. Seemed to work, except for the part where iMovie gets left behind and iDVD is only mostly functional.
When I installed on the other 2 machines, it was after installing Leopard and all upgrades. On those 2 machines, I didn't bother with the copy, I just moved everything to the iLife '06 folder I created, and did a fresh install.
I didn't have to do anything with the iPhoto Libraries, that I can recall.
I always do an upgrade, never an archive and install. I've never had a problem with this back to 10.1 or 10.2.

Captivate 5.5 Question: We seem to be having an issue with the screen capture piece not recording "everything".
We're running 5.5 as an administrator on Windows 7 and my co-worker is trying to capture a webinar (GoToMeeting) with Captivate and it is not recording anything in the GTM window, except the last slide. Anyone have this problem or know a fix? Not much is mentioned in the Adobe forums.

Captivate simply doesn't 'hear' some screen events on certain applications and you just need to resort to doing manual captures at these points.
I usually set up my manual capture button to be F2 so that I can hit it with my left hand while my right hand is on the mouse navigating through the task.

  • Issues with Finder - reinstalling Leopard???

    Hi,
I'm having some issues with Finder. Sometimes, when I restart the computer, it takes a long time to start Finder. Besides that, every time I want to eject my Time Machine external HD, I need to relaunch Finder. If I don't relaunch it, it never ejects the TM HD.
Would you recommend reinstalling Leopard, but using the feature to erase everything? When I installed it, I didn't use that feature because I wanted my files/previous programs the way they were before. With a new installation (erasing everything), I'd have to install and configure so many things again and I didn't want that. But now, because of the issues with Finder, I'm thinking about reinstalling Leopard.
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers,
    Mike

Before you do anything drastic, repost your question in the Finder/Dock forum.
No, I am not being sarcastic - but you might find that it's a common problem and others over in that forum have a solution or else it might simply be an "issue" that a reinstall will not fix.
It would be annoying if you reinstalled Leopard and it didn't install properly.
Until you are sure about the Finder "issue" leave it alone for now.
    Here's the Finder/Dock forum location:

    And good luck.

Besides that, every time I want to eject my Time Machine external HD, I need to relaunch Finder.
I haven't used Time Machine, but I wonder if you can temporarily turn it off so you can dismount your external hard drive. Note while your external hard drive that Time Machine is dependent on is not connected, anything you do will not appear on Time Machine, since it is reliant on that external hard drive for source information. The only question I would have, is if you remounted the hard drive is whether Time Machine would be able to recognize what it has backed up to it already?
Reinstalling Leopard shouldn't be necessary. I would also try to see if you are running low on disk space. Tell us how much space you have free on both internal and external drive out of how much space total?

  • Issues with iTunes Home Sharing using iPhone 6 Plus

    Hi guys,
I'm having problems with streaming music and video on my iPhone 6 plus from my Macbook Pro (mid 2010 model) using iTunes' Home Sharing . I am able to stream without any issues using my iPhone 4S and my Apple TV, however.
I am using iTunes version 12.0.1.26, iOS 8.1.2, and OSX 10.9.5.
Using my 6 plus, I am able to connect to my iTunes library, both music and video. Album art shows up for music but no cover art for the videos. So, all in all, I am able to see the contents of my library.
However, when I try to play songs, a couple things may happen. First, nothing plays for about 10 seconds; then a second or two of the song plays followed by silence again, appearing as if it's buffering. Second thing that may happen is that a second or two plays immediately followed by silence. If I press next to play the next song, what usually happens is that nothing plays, although the song title does appear.
As seen in this video, I don't have any issues with my WIFI connection or internet speed, as demonstrated using the iPhone 4S and Apple TV.
I have no clue as to why this is happening.
Hopefully someone could shed some light with this issue. Please feel free to comment. I'm open to and appreciate any suggestions while Apple tries to find a solution. Thanks.

    UPDATE
So, after working with the guys at Apple, they were able to provide a solution.  Now I have no problems using Home Sharing with my iPhone 6 Plus!!!
(I should add that I have the Linksys Advanced Dual-Band N Router (E2500))
The issue was fixed by giving one of the wi-fi channels a different name, thus splitting the channels into 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.  Then, I connected my iPhone to one channel (2.4 GHz) and my MacBook Pro to the other channel (5GHz).  In this configuration, I have had no issues streaming my music and video.
It seems that the problem is some kind of interference between both devices when using the same channel (i.e., when both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz channel share the same name).

  • Issue with selection screen element on At slection scree

    Hi All,
I am facing an issue with a checkbox which is present within the subscreen of a standard selection screen.
The issue is that the value of the combobox get toggled by itselfon the event mentioned below. I am unable to find out how this combo box value gets changed by itself on the screen events.I tried clear statemetns etc nothing is helping. I debugged with a watch point on this screen element and found this to happen. It just changes the value of the element to a previously held state.I m trying to clear the combobox but this event puts back the tick mark. How can I stop this.
AT SELECTION-SCREEN ON COL_FROM.  "COL_FROM is another screen element diffrent from the combobox
    Thanks

    Hi Vighneswaran CE,
This event corresponds to the PAI module of the COL_FROM field. So, it gets executed each time you press any valid function code on the screen (unless there was an error in a previous field). Nothing abnormal here.
That's difficult to help you on that topic, you'd better tell us exactly what report it is, where you have added your code (and what code) to change the checkbox, ...
    Best regards,
    Sandra

  • Anyone have issues with "touch screen" not responding?

Does anyone find that the touch screen doesn't respond? I have huge issues with this style.
Touching and swiping on a screen that is 1.5 inches isn't fun. I need shade to read the screen (bad for snow), I need to go thru so much just to get to a song, a podcast, whatever that was playing before I HAD to turn off nana. I need to turn off nano each time.
    1. Turn on by holding button like forever.
    2. swipe, swipe, swipe, swipe to get to songs or podcast. Select, select, touch selcet, not selecting, touch, touch touch.
    3. Select 'songs; selevet something else to get to a screen that says shuffle.
    4. Select, select, touch, touch, use index finger, thumb, touch, breath on finger, touch again.
    5. After one song plays after selecting "shuffle", it repeats, repeats,
    6. Take ipod out of pocket, stand in shade, hit the snooze whatever button, to activate screen, Is screen activitated? yes? But it blinked off to quick to make selectioon of touch proof screen.
    7. Walk inside to touch screen, to see screen. Hit button, wait for long time for this to start again (much like laptop starting).
    8. Swipe to get to menu with songs, swipe, swipe, swipe swipe.
    9. Select music: albums, artist songs. By selecting I mean touch touch touch, touch, use thumb, touch. for each selection
    10. Are you sure this is an Apple product?
Can I return this POS and wait for someone to go back to what worked best??

Oh, and yes I have restored to factory settings. Then resynch.
I have done the soft reset or whatever it's called on this one.
    It is updated.

  • Finder Screen sharing Unavailiable

I have a Mac mini and right now I'm on a Macbook. When I go into Finder, I CAN see the Shared menu, that's not my problem, but what is unavailable is the option to Share Screen. While on the Macbook, I can see the option to Share Screen with my Mac mini, but when I put in my name and password, it says "Authentication Failed to Joe's Mac" I don't know how to fix it.

You must both enable Screen Sharing on the Mac whose screen you want to see and allow access to the feature by users on other Macs. You can opt to allow any user or just selected ones this access.
In Leopard, this is set up in the "Sharing" System Preference: click on the "Screen Sharing" service in the list at the left & configure it as you wish. Don't forget to enable the service by ticking the checkbox next to its name. You can also share the screen of a Mac running Tiger -- the only real difference is the configuration is done in the "Remote Access" service.

  • Problems with iChat Screen Sharing

My mother just got her first Mac, a MacBook Air, so, in anticipation of the need to help her with the transition remotely I set iChat up using our respective Yahoo Messenger accounts.  When I highlight her name in my Buddies list the Screen Sharing, Audio, and Video options are dimmed.  If I highlight her name then click File-New Chat-select Screen Sharing-enter her name, it opens a message that she is busy in another chat.  I have signed out of Messenger on Yahoo's page, rebooted both machines and toggled screen sharing off then on again. Still no joy.
Does anyone have any insight into what the issue is or any ideas as to what I need to do to resolve the problems?

    Hi,
iChat will Video and Audio Only chat from Jabber Lists (Google and Facebook and others) to other iChat users also using a Jabber list.
In Lion the same applies for the Yahoo Buddy Lists.
If you can Video then you should be able to Screen Share.
Basically and Audio Only chat and the Video Chats use the same ports.
An Screen Share is an Audio Chat+
The Plus bit is a VNC connection alongside a Audio Chat.
If you have Logins via the Yahoo App (on an old PC ? at here end ?) or one  Mac then there maybe issues about which app tried to respond to the Invite.
Technically only iChat should "see" the iChat invite but the invite is actually sent to the Login and the Yahoo App may have priority.
Other logins such as Phones or web site login may need to be specifically logged out.
AIM and MSN for instance have default 2 week login periods if you don't specifically log out.

  • Issues with Finder tabs feature + trackpad gestures

    Hello,
Recently installed Yosemite 10.10.1 (clean install + migration of backup data and apps). Like Yosemite design but...
Just after the install, things I am talking about below, were working well but since the very first turn-off and start, things have been going worse and worse, especially with Finder.
1st issue. Opening tabs in Finder (cmd + click on folder from the sidebar) works in a bizarre way:  when I open a folder such as Documents in a tab > OK but.... when I open the folder Utilities (part of the Applications one) from the Finder sidebar, the former open tabs as well as the left sidebar of the Finder vanish and just get a unique Finder window (without the left sidebar) with the Utilities folder. This unexpected and undesired behavior happens in both full screen or regular modes.
2nd issue. When scoping into a folder which consists of multiple sub-folders, the "back-and-forth" navigation to the previous or next folder (similar to previous or next page) does not work with the usual Trackpad gestures (swipe with 2 or 3 fingers) while it was working super well just after the install.
Hope these undesired behaviors of Finder have been already identified as bugs and will be fixed very soon. Should any of you have an idea about that, welcome.
    Thank you!

Self reply. Just found workaround and solution:
1st issue: step 1 > activated "Quit Finder" in Finder menu bar (thanks to Onyx), step 2 > quit Finder, step 3 > restart Finder and... step 4 > all folders open properly in tabs.
However, also noticed that the width of the Finder sidebar seems to be preserved as a preference, only as from a certain width. Below this limit, seems that the manual settings of the sidebar width are lost and next time the folder is open it comes with a shrunk sidebar (Yosemite bug or normal behavior? Cannot recall such a behavior in Mavericks).
2nd issue: back-and-forth navigation in Finder pages (within a same window or tab) works well with trackpad swipe gesture at the condition the Trackpad System Preference "swiping through pages" is set up with option "3 fingers" or "2 or 3 fingers". Option "2 fingers only" does not work in Finder.
    My 2 cents!
