Issue with SaveAs PDF using XSLFOP

Hi, We have been using SaveAs method to generate PDF files using XSLFOP technique successfully, however, recently we ran into an issue where a very large report (about 100+ pages) generated a PDF file that could not be opened. We get the following error when we try to open the PDF file. “There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired.” We tried it again with lesser range of dates and the proper PDF file is generated. (Report was about 35 pages). So we think it has something to do with the large volume of data which is causing the SaveAs method to generate the corrupt PDF file. Any help will be much appreciated !! Note : In the same folder where we have the EXE,PBD and DLLs, we have two subfolders fop-0.20.5 and jre. Thanks, Chirag Vora

Hello Chirag,
We submitted this problem to engineering 10 years ago with PowerBuilder 9 !!!
It appears to be a problem with the FOP processor which needs a large amount of memory to complete the task. You can find similar issues with other tools than PowerBuilder:
The oXygen-user October 2003 Archive by thread
As a workaround, you can save the data in XSL-FO format within PowerBuilder, then use the fop.bat file in the \Shared\PowerBuilder\fop-0.20.4\ folder to convert it from outside PB.
This will still give you the memory error until you modify the batch file to increase the maximum heapsize for java.
In the fop.bat file change the java start command to : java -Xms64m -Xmx256m ...
The option -Xms definies the initial heapsize for the java engine and -Xmx the maximum heapsize.
We believe the default maximum heap is 64MB and this is what it is running into (or running out).
Setting it to 256MB with -Xmx and it was able to complete

Jacob

  • I have an issue with some PDF documents   some MS Office documents, notably MS Word when received in eMail as attachments not displaying on iPhones, iPad 2s

    Hi,
I have an issue with some PDF documents & some MS Office documents, notably MS Word when received in eMail as attachments not displaying properly on iPhones, iPad 2s & new iPads?
PDF docs - areas of the doc only show as grey splotches regardles of viewer
    MS Word Docs -
inserted graphics don't display at all,
tables & lists especially with borders are broken &
tables & lists missing the borders &
tables & lists missing the 1st 1-2 lines of the lists/tables.
This is replicated on iPhone 4s, iPhone 4Ss, iPad 2s, iPad new (x2)
It certainly happens in iOS 5.1.1 & iOS 5.1
We believe it all worked aok in iOS 5.0.1(?) & prior
There is no problems reading/seeing these PDF & Word docs on anything other than iDevices.
This is rather critical for us & if not quickly fixed/rectified will prevent us from further purchases of these devices
Rolling back to iOS 5.0.1 or prior I believe isn't possible because of the BaseBand update(?) & isn't much of an option because of the quite noticeable Battery/Charging/WiFi improvements in 5.1 & 5.1.1

    Hi,
I logged a call with AppleCare & have since had explained why this occurs (some time ago)
I'll try to explain what was indicated to me.
iOS has a limited Font Set & this affects what PDFs can display. You need to use iOS supported fonts in your PDFs to see/read them properly
These supported fonts are indicated here => http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4980
Regards MS office docs, iOS doesn't have much of an API to work with MS Office documents at all so is stuck with 3rd Party Apps to try to do it.
Unfortunately Mail in/on iOS uses the API to attempt to open/use MS Office attachments unless you tell it to use an App to open the attachment.
I have had success opening & reading MS office docs now with CloudOn, but find it slow & very awkward to use.
Not too sure if this helps others, but at least it explains why this is occurring

  • Photoshop batch production - issues with 'save for web'

    Hi,
I'm having an issue with 'save for web' on a batch. I've just spent the last 2 hours searching the web and this forum and although the issue gets touched upon, the threads either suddenly head off in another direction, end, or i just struggle to make sense of the answers given.
I have 350 images that i want to resize to thumbnails and then save for web. 2 hours ago this seemed like a 5 minute job.
I creat an action called 'batch_thumbnail' and press 'Record'.
I then select 'File' > 'Open' and select an image to open using the dialog box.
I then select 'Image' > 'Image Size' and resize the image to the thumbnail size (200 x 125) and press 'OK'.
I then select 'File' > 'Save for Web and Devices', set my optimisation settings and press 'save'.
Using the dialog box that pops up, i navigate to a pre-created directory called 'thumbs' and press 'save'.
I then select 'File' > 'Close' and on the dialog box that pops up i select 'Don't Save'.
I then stop the action from recording.
    So far so good.
I then select 'File' > 'Automate' > 'Batch...' and the dialog box appears.
I select my action in the 'Action' drop down menu.
In 'Source' i set the drop down menu to 'Folder', select 'Choose' and select the target directory with my 350 images in.
In 'Destination' i set the drop down menu to 'Folder', select 'Choose' and select the target directory (thumbs), where i wish to save the thumbs.
In 'File Naming' i leave the first box as 'document name', set the second to '_thumb' and have the third as 'extension'.
    I then click 'OK'.
And this is where the problem begins. Everything works fine till it trys to save the second image. I can see what's happening, as the directory path and image name that are used whilst setting up the SFW part of the action, are getting hardcoded into the action. So every resulting image is being saved as the same file, instead of being overriden by the settings in 'File Naming'.
I've tried selecting 'Override action 'Save' command', but it doesn't make any difference. Is it actually possible to batch produce files using 'Save for Web and Devices'?
    Cheers,
    James

I have written a couple of Save For Web batch processors, they may be of use to you?
They can both resize and run an action if required.

  • Issue with opening .PDF files after recalling from Symantec Enterprise Vault

    Good Morning,
I am having issues with opening PDF files that have been recalled from Symantec Enterprise Vault and some of the files are anywhere from 3-4 years old.  Some files open, while others return the error: Adobe Reader could not open filename.pdf because it is not a supported file type or might have been damaged.  It is inconsistent as to which files it occurs with.  I am not ready to believe that I have that many corrupt files out there.  I am opening them on a Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x64 desktop. Adobe 10.1.7. I have already configured the registry setting for bValidateBytesBeforeHeader that I found in another article to no avail.
The files are on a network share, but I also tried copying them to my local desktop and still received the error.
I have seen other posts regarding this error, but do not see a definitive solution and am hoping that in recent days someone has come up with a solution.
    Thank You
    Brian Dougherty

Not supported file type can (but not always) mean the PDF was created with an old enough version of Acrobat, that it isn't comaptible with reader X or XI.
Might have been damaged is pretty cut and dried in its meaning and interpretation.
There's a known issue with Mac OS and Safari Browser "breaking" PDFs as they download, but it's not so common for Windows. Since these are files you already had, it would be even less applicable.
You can try downloading an older version of Reader to check if it's a compatibility issue, but you'd have to uninstall the latest to do it and it'd be a lot of bother if they still don't open. It would also mean they are "broken" and cannot be repaired, that I know of.

  • Issue with opening pdf file from web browser

I have Acrobat Pro ver 6 and Adobe Reader 9.1 on a computer.  when my user tries to open up a pdf from the web he is getting the following error message:
"The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a WEb Browser.  Adbe Acrobat/Reader version 8 or 9 is required.  Please exit and try again."
What also happens is that Acrobat Pro ver 6 opens up and nothing is there.
I am not sure why he is getting that message since Reader 9.1 is installed.
Can any one shed some light on this for me.
This user needs to have Acrobat and Reader on his system.  I understand that there are issues with having both.
Also he has it set up so that any PDF is opening using the Reader 9.1.
    Thanks,

Your PC's default reader configuration for embedded PDFs has become confused, due to multiple Adobe PDF document solutions installed on one PC.
    Solution 1:
    Go to Start > Run
    Type regedit and click OK.
Browse to the following key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Software\Adobe\Acrobat\Exe
Make sure that the correct Default data value is set for the path where Adobe Reader or Acrobat are installed.
    The default installation values are:
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe"
    or
"C:\Program Files\adobe\acrobat 6.0\acrobat\Acrobat.exe" (not sure about this path.  Check on your PC to be sure)
depending on whether Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat is installed.
    Solution 2:
Configure the browser to use Acrobat or Adobe Reader as a helper application.
If you are using Firefox to browse the web, you can change this setting in Firefox by going to:
    Tools > Options
    Click on the "Applications" Tab.
The first item in the list should be "Adobe Acrobat Document".  Under the Action list, click the drop down arrow and select the application you want to read PDFs within the web browser.  Click OK, and you should be done.
If you're using Internet Explorer to view PDFs, try the below steps.
After you configure Acrobat or Adobe Reader as a helper application, the browser starts the helper application in a separate window and displays PDF files within that window. Acrobat and Adobe Reader both include a preference that lets you specify Acrobat or Adobe Reader as the helper application.
To configure Acrobat or Adobe Reader as a helper application:
    Start Acrobat or Adobe Reader.
    Choose Edit > Preferences.
    Select Internet on the left.
Deselect Display PDF In Browser Using [Acrobat application], and then click OK.
    Quit Acrobat or Adobe Reader.
The next time you select a link to a PDF file in the browser, a dialog box asks what you would like to do with the file. If you select Open It, the browser opens the PDF file in Acrobat or Adobe Reader (the helper application); if you select Save It To Disk, the browser saves the PDF file to your hard drive.

  • Issues with SAPSCRIPT & PDF creation

Requirement: When a particular output type of a billing document is processed, an email is to be generated with PDF attachments.
I have developed a custom program and SAPscript.
But I am facing two major issues here.
    1. When processing the output type via RSNAST00, the data gets reflected in the SAPscript. But when the same output type is processed via transaction VF31, no data is passed to the script and the output appears as blank for the fields.
The fields referenced in the script is with the dictionary structure VBRP.
    2. The output is converted into PDF using the function CONVERT_OTF. Currently I have one logo in the Script which needs to be replaced with a better one and when that is done, seventh the window size is much bigger, the generated PDF does not open and displays the error 'There was an error opening the document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired.'
If I pass the same internal table to the function GUI_DOWNLOAD and save the file to local PC, the file opens neatly.
    Kindly provide with your suggestions.
    Thank You.
    Ramesh

Is the print program copy of sap standard program? if not, do you have TABLES NAST declared in ur program and use NAST-OBJKY as the doc number.

We are unable to print Brava PDF documents with Adobe PDF reader activeX enabled in IE9. The same runs fine in Chrome with  Adobe PDF reader activeX enabled.
    I noticed Chrome uses

    Has anyone faced this issue?

Can you print other pdf files from within IE9? Can you download the files and print them directly from Reader on you computer? Please list the steps you are using to print the pdf from IE9.

  • Issues with Japanese encoding using Mail

Since recently (I would say since I updated to 10.6), I have an issue with Japanese-encoded (ISO 2022-JP) mails on my English MacOS.
I have no problem to read, edit and write answers to any mails.
However with some ISO JP-2022-JP encoded messages (sent with Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 (Windows/20090812) btw) I have the following misbehaviour:
    - if I send the message and let the encoding to "automatic", Mail sends the mail in UTF-8, which I do not want since most of Japanese computer do not understand UTF-8 by default (and the receiver gets panicked: "I can not read your mail T_T !")
    - if I set the encoding to "ISO JP-2022-JP", I can not send nor save the message (see [1] at the end of the post). One should note that the error message when saving is really misleading (and yes my hard-drive has a lot of space left) and it should be fixed by Apple.
    - if I dig a bit deeper, I can in effect find some characters in the original message which prevent Mail to send my mail. It however does not make any sense since:
    - those char were in the original message properly encoded in ISO JP-2022-JP
    - those char are always very common ones
The only solution I have found so far is to delete the original message in my mail, which is very frustrating...
A sample of such mail can be found at (I removed personal info. and the mail is about a drinking party):
    Help would be very appreciated.
    Thank you very much.
    Antoine
[1] I get the following error messages:

*This message can’t be saved to the Drafts mailbox.*
The message contains one or more attachments that

    “Text Encoding” menu.

You can find out about the different versions here, for example:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO/IEC_2022
Thank you. I feel a bit stupid for not having looked in Wikipedia at first...
I sometime wonder how could such basic problem like charset not being solved after more than 40 years of computer science...
Here is a note that addresses that problem, but I don't think it works with 10.6. Might be worth a > try:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=121808&tstart=60
    Thank for the link.
It seems to still work: new japanese mails are now sent in "ISO 2022-JP-2".
However, for messages with the header explicitly specifying "ISO 2022-JP" (which should be "ISO 2022-JP-2" on my mac) it has no influence.
The only ways I see to solve this issue would be:
    i) to force "ISO 2022-JP-2" for all mails (a bit too extreme)
ii) to force the use of "ISO 2022-JP-2" instead of "ISO 2022-JP", but I do not think such precise configuration is possible
This mess appears to be due to Thunderbird which seems to mix "ISO 2022-JP-2" and "ISO 2022-JP", but I do not have any working Thunderbird to test now...

  • Security issues with connecting pdf to database

I have a pdf form that is being called from a webform as part
of a web application. The PDF has two dropdown lists that I was
populating from a SQL Server Database. I had created a special user
that had select access only to the tables for the dropdowns.
My question is are there any known security issues with
regard to allowing a pdf to connect to a database this way. The PDF
is being called from a secure connection but I don't know if
opening this database connection to populate these dropdowns
exposes a security hole of any sort. If it does, do you have a
solution to make this secure? I am asking because another developer
on the project brought up the issue of this design creating a
security risk and I haven't been able to find anything online
    discussing it either way.
    Thanks!

    Hello Maureen,
Thanks for posting, but I'm not sure I see if your question
    relates to Acrobat.com
Are you using any of the Acrobat.com Services as any part of
    your workflow?

  • Issues With Save For Web CS6

I'm having some issues with my file when trying to Save For Web. A band of transparency appears above my image even though I have everything cropped to the artboard, and the artboard is exactly the size I want the final image to be. If I uncheck "Clip to Artboard" the band of transparency disappears from the top, but reappears on the right side. It seems as if the artboard area is calculated differently in the Save For Web screen; its slightly off. I've included some images so you can see the issue.
Trying to save for web as a .png with "Clip To Artboard" selected; a tiny (one pixel tall?) band of transparency on the top of the image.
Trying to save for web as a .png without "Clip To Artboard" selected; the image seems to shift and the band of transparency appears on the right size. Also some of the pieces of the image appear on the bottom outside of the artboard.
I made sure to crop each element of my image to fit exactly on the artboard. Previously, I had made sure to use a clipping mask exactly the size of the artboard and still had these issues. I would like my .png to not have a band of transparency. It has the same issue when I change it to .jpg, but instead has a white matte band. What am I doing wrong, or is this just an issue with Illustrator? Thanks in advance!

Depending on your use of the image in context, won't the transparent strip "disappear?"
The only solution I know is to open it in Photoshop and manually crop out the transparent strip. AI or Save for Web also seems to antialias the edge of free-standing art over a transparent background. I just make the artwork slightly larger than the final cropped size, save for web, then crop in Photoshop.

  • Issue with Email generation using MAPI32.OCX and Outlook 2010

Our application use MAP32 OCX to generate an email with an attachment (PDF File), but no email address. The user will select the address from their contacts.
Right now we have an issue with some Outlook 2010 clients that after about 8 emails , Outlook has an issue and hangs.
Now if we do a mailto://[email protected] before we create the 8th email, Outlook 2010 doesn't hang.  Is there any setting we can set in Outlook 2010 to prevent the "address checking" when the email is generated or do I have to fill
the email address with a "bogus" address that the user must then overwrite to prevent this from happening?
    Thanks,
    Chad Newman

    Hello Chad,
Why do you need to use MAPI instead of OOM?
I'd suggest automating Outlook instead. See
How to automate Outlook from another program and

  • Anyone else having an issue with TCP connections using iCloud for Windows?

    Hi,
Before I asked this question, I did wait to see if any related questions came up, but none did, so I submit it now.
On my admittedly older laptop running Windows 7 64b Home, I've run into difficulties with the iCloud for Windows app to the extent that I had to uninstall it.
It would that, as my laptop was running, in the background, iCloudServices.exe would endlessly iterate TCP connections, which, while not actively sending or receiving any data, after some hours would number over 100 instances, taking up resources, and grinding my laptop's WiFi connection to a grindingly slow pace. I ended up, within the app, turning off everything, iCloud Drive and Photos, (I never used bookmarks), but still this would continue to occur.
I contacted Apple Support, explaining what was going on, and they stated they only dealt with IOS and gave me a Microsoft Support number. When I called Microsoft support, I came more and more to the realization that the issue was specifically with the iCloud for Windows app, as that was the only software that was endlessly creating and not closing TCP connections as it was. How was Microsoft supposed to solve an issue with Apple code?
So I called Apple back, whereupon they insisted it was a Microsoft issue. I explained other cloud services installed on the same computer were not having the same issue, it was unique to ICloudServices.exe. They stated they only dealt with IOS. I stated I purchased an iPad Air less than 7 months ago, and was trying to run iCloud in support of that.  They again stated they only dealt with IOS, and suggested I again try Microsoft. I asked them if it was reasonable to expect Microsoft to solve issues with Apple code? They said regardless, there was zero support offered for anything having to do with Windows, and all I could do was uninstall the app, which I did, though that did not feel very satisfactory to me. My thinking is, if Apple writes a Windows app in support of their hardware, they should offer support for it.
Anyway, I was just wondering, is this an issue unique to me? or have others experienced a similar issue? I found this issue by opening the Windows Resource Monitor, looking under the Networking tab, and scrolling through the TCP Connections section to find 100+ concurrent iCloudServices.exe instances listed, whereas even Chrome, with multiple tabs and extensions, topped out at around 20.
My one month old Desktop, DYI, sports a solid Asus 1150 MoBo, i7-4790k cpu, 16GB Ram, and an EVGA GTX 970 video card. I list some specs only to illustrate this computer has no hardware issues in comparison to my long in tooth laptop. On this desktop, running Win 8.1 Pro 64b,  at least as many, identifiably Apple, background service TCP connections are created even compared to Chrome, regardless of many tabs being open, many extensions, and even some related apps. Adobe does not even come close, though I run the full CC subscription. On this new computer, running Windows 8.1 Pro 64b, there are currently over 50 TCP connections and loopbacks that do not identify themselves, with just a - for the Image, and PID. With the experience on my laptop, I wonder how many of these are generated by Apple software, if not specifically iCloud software?
The frustrating aspect of these connections is they seem in no way active, While the Chrome and Adobe connections can be seen to be transferring data, as long as I am not running iTunes, or so have my iPad actually plugged in, it seems 99% of the time these iCloudServices.exe connections are just taking up ports, neither sending nor receiving any data discernable to me under the Processes with Network Activity, or Network Activity lists, both displayed in the same window as the TCP Connections in the Windows Resource Monitor.
Though I am fairly ignorant as regards coding, it seems as if there is no call to close a connection, very specifically, iCloudServices.exe, when it is no longer needed, and the next time a connection is needed, a new one is opened, rather than accessing the one previously opened. The only other reason I could imagine this might be occurring is if my Norton Internet Security software might mask and/or block the port after a certain time of inactivity.
Anyone out there have any ideas or advice about this? Thanks in advance.

    Thanks jared,
I'm still dealing with this issue through Apple. Some time after I posted this, I contacted Apple again. They did start a case up for me, as I was experiencing the same behavior on two different machines, with two different versions of Windows.
So far it remains unsolved. I've logged iClouds for Windows on my desktop, which is brand new, then logged for awhile after completely uninstalling Norton Security Suite, depending on the Microsoft security for some time, and finally logged after I uninstalled iCloud for Windows, restarted, installed a clean download, and connected using a completely different test account, which Apple set up for me. None of this made any difference. Looking at the logs, it seems every 10 minutes, iCloudServices.exe creates a new TCP connection to confirm I'm using less than 5GB on iCloud, (which I am by a good margin, using less than 2GB), it seems this connection is not closed, and when the next iteration rolls around 10 minutes later, a new TCP connection is created. I come very close to having 6 TCP connections created per hour, until I restart my computer. This works out to... 6 x 24 = 144/day.
Perhaps the article you posted will shed some further light on this. I'm thinking seeing the state of the connection through netstats, at the least, could help.
For the last week, I've been putting a hold on further logging, as Apple wants me to create a new user account on one of my computers, install iCloud for Windows there, and log it running in the other account. This however basically means I cannot use my computer for a fair number of hours, and I've been busy enough with work the past week that I haven't the time or energy to afford to set this up and run it. I've had need of my computers too much for the past week.

  • Issues with pagination when using Adobe table with Web dynpro for ABAP

    Hi All,
I am facing strange issue with table text.
I have three cols in table, one is of type Char255 and other two cols are of type string.
The text in the col 1 is displayed perfectly but in other two cols of type string whenever we have pagination the text in table is getting truncated and in next page new row starts.
Could you please tell me the settings that will enable flowing of text in the row of table to next page.
    Thanks,
    Arti.

Check the properties of the text field you use for those columns (if you want to control it on this level) or check the same attribute for the row subform (one level up control): "allow page break within content".
    Regards Otto
