ISW on Solaris 10 stabilty issue

Folks,
I am testing iSW on Solaris 10 and am seeing an issue where after some days the box eventually looses network connectivity and becomes unresponsive and i am forced to do a hard power cycle to get it back up. I am suspecting that there is a Java issue that eventually eats up resources but not sure and have yet to dig into system logs. It is a clean build of Solaris with only a DS webserver and the iSW software running .
Has anyone seen this with iSW on Solaris 10 ? Maybe a known bug ?
I will likely open a Solaris case and or post to the OS forum BUT wanted to see if maybe this has been seen before ?

Thanks -John

Yes, thanks. I have gathered more info on the behavior and have determined that the Java processes that run ( pasted below ) for iSW are consuming resources eg free memory in this case. Over the course of several days, after starting iSW the free memory available is reduced in increments to the point that none (or almost nothing is left) and the OS becomes unresponsive and requires a re-boot This is clearly these five processes as it does not happen when they are stopped.
I assume that this is a Java memory leak ? but am not too experienced in trbl shooting process specific resource usage but am hoping that this might be a Java tuning parameter that will improve/fix the problem ?
The Java Env is:

    But if I try browser with the link http:// host:898, I have got the following error:

  • Oracle 8.1.6 and Solaris 2.6 Issues

    Is anyone aware of any "major" issues/bugs with Oracle ver. 8.1.6 running on a Solaris Ver. 2.6 SPARC environment?
    Our installations "mainly" use Oracle 8i DBMS Server, Parallel Server, Application Server, & WebDb. Most of the business applications that we have are Pro*C, JAVA, and PL/SQL. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

    Two of the bugs I know of are the following:
    - DCD (Dead Connection Detection) does not work with Multi Threaded server. This means that when a client connection chrashes, its session on the database server is not cleaned up (bug 1394008).
    - Instance crashes after 248 days. After an uptime of 248 days of the machine, the instance hangs because of a timer overflow. (bug 1227119) There is a patch for this problem.
    There may be more issues, but these are the major issues I know of

  • JCaps 5.1.3 Sun Solaris CPU performance issue

    Folks,
    We are experiencing a serious CPU performance issue on our Solaris server with HL7 projects deployed.
    The projects consist of the sample HL7 inbound and outbound projects with an additional service sending to a batch local file external for writing journals.
    The performance issue occurs when there is volume of data in the queues/topics. As we continue to deploy additional HL7 projects (usually about 6 interfaces), the CPU increases until it reached 100%.

    Hi,
    I noticed this behavior with the Alert + SNMP Agents installed but not configured. In this situation, the SNMP agent generates traps for all events, leading to high CPU using, even when nothing was processed. Are you in a similar case?

  • Solaris 8 ufsrestore issues

    Hello all,
    this is my first post here.
    I am experiencing a strange issue when attempting to do a ufsrestore of an entire backed up OS (Sol 8) The restore goes fine but some time after the new server is up and running I start getting these errors;
    # Jun 13 01:20:00 usmlsu52new.arrow.com cron[23056]: open_module: stat(/usr/lib/security/pam_projects.so.1) failed: No such file or directory
    Jun 13 01:20:00 usmlsu52new.arrow.com cron[23056]: load_modules: can not open module /usr/lib/security/pam_projects.so.1
    # ls | more
    ls: Cannot find /usr/lib/ld.so.1
    more: Cannot find /usr/lib/ld.so.1
    Killed
    # Jun 13 01:20:00 usmlsu51new.arrow.com cron[2638]: open_module: stat(/usr/lib/security/pam_projects.so.1) failed: No such file or directory
    Jun 13 01:20:00 usmlsu51new.arrow.com cron[2638]: load_modules: can not open module /usr/lib/security/pam_projects.so.1
    I now can't do anything on the server? I am at the root prompt but when I try to run a ls, df -k, cp it just gives me the same error complaining about the ld.so.1 file missing??
    Can anyone help me with this
    Thanks
    Paul.

    Could be the library file is missing or corrupted. Need to copy the good version of the library file.
    Since, the system is up, the recovery steps are as follows:
    1) /usr/sbin/static/mv /usr/lib/ld.so.1 /usr/lib/ld.so.1.buggy
    2) /usr/sbin/static/cp /etc/lib/ld.so.1 /usr/lib
    It worked for me on Solaris 9 and Solaris 10.
    In case, the server doesn't boot, need to boot of media, mount the root file system and /usr, if /usr is a separate filesystem and perform the above commands.

  • Solaris 10 Patching issues

    Any body have these problems.
    System:
    AMD Duron 1200MHZ
    512Kb Ram
    40gig IDE HD
    Netgear FG511 NIC
    I am a Noob with Solaris and Unix in general and dont have any experience with Linux but am open minded and enjoy getting my teeth into new stuff. I have found Solaris to be a great challenge and Unix seems to be a suitable replacement to Windows. The only issue I have is regarding patching of the OS. I recently downloaded the recommended x86 patches and ran the install_cluster...upon reboot solaris just kept rebooting...there was some kind of panic in the kernel. I had a look on the net and found the patch that was causing the issue. I then rebuilt(I could have removed the patch but decided to do a rebuild anyway) I then edited the Patch_order file and removed the reference to the 118844-20 patch which caused the kernel panic.
    I then installed the cluster again and rebooted and it seemed that solaris came up fine. but when I logged in a couple of applications for GNOME did not start(window list,workspace switcher,show desktop etc) it gave an error and asked if I wanted to restart these apps.
    Next I tried to open a .gz archive and the file roller app died.
    I then went to a terminal window and gunzipped the archive and then tried to tar -x the resulting file from the gunzip about half way through the untar Solaris rebooted. I have had no issues with archive files prior to patching so can only assume that it is one of the patches that is causing the issue?????
    has anyone had similer issues.
    I must admit, its a bit unnerveing when you install recommended patches that your system becomes very unstable.

    Hi,
    I have the same problem and unfortunately no answers. Same story - build Solaris on machine, runs fine. Run update connection, load security and recommended patches and boom - Solaris is now broken. Unfortunately I didn't find a way to recover so my only course of action is to reinstall Solaris.
    I traced it to a similar patch - 118844-30. I've since rebuilt the box using S10 Update 1 which includes Grub etc, but same problem if I run update connection and download the recommended patches which inlcudes 118844-30 => reinstall Solaris.
    Any ideas?

  • Solaris 10 network issues

    Hi,
    I recently installed Solaris amd64 3000+, 512MB 400MHz ram, gigabyte motherboard desktop. Everything went fine, except within the gui i wasnt prompted to use DHCP? unless i completely missed it!?! When i issue 'ifconfig lo0 dhcp start' i get "ifconfig: lo0: interface does not exist or cannot be managed using DHCP" ??? This is driving me insane. I also remembered being prompted within text installer of Solaris but when I boot to DVD my keyboard freezes and I cant change option to text installer, i get default GUI which i didnt see option for DHCP. I also tried to assign an ip address to my lo0 interface but It always stays at 127.0.0.1. I changed /etc/host file and rebooted but nothing? I'm guessing im completely missing something. Help?

    I've got this same problem;
    I installed Solaris 10 u4 but it didn't recognise the on-board ethernet, so never asked me for any network configuration info at install-time.
    After the install was complete I added a 3com ethernet card, touch /reconfigure, and rebooted.
    It detects the card at boot but doesn't plumb it.
    I can plumb it fine manually, but it just won't do this itself at boot.
    Is there some way to get this to happen properly?

  • Solaris 8 DLPI issues

    Is anyone aware of any DLPI issues specific to Solaris 8(Beta Refresh 2). In this case,"ifconfig x0 plumb" fails for a pseudo driver in Solaris 8, while the same works fine in Solaris 7. This is a style 2 DLS provider, and it appears that DL_INFO_REQ fails, leading to ifconfig coming out with an error "No such interface".

    [email protected]

    My company is porting a network traffic-monitoring application to Solaris. We would like to use the Solaris "DLPI" interface to receive packets for analysis. However, my understanding is that DLPI will only provide incoming packets addressed to the local machine. In order to receive outgoing packets also, I understand that DLPI requires that the application place the network interface in promiscuous mode, which we are loathe to do for efficiency reasons. I am hoping that I'm incorrect about this; is there a way in Solaris 7 or 8 to use the DLPI interface to receive both incoming packets addressed to the local machine and also outgoing packets from the local machine? Thank you.

    OK, as I was booting into Solaris 8, that also gave me mpt errors and suddenly realized of one change that I had done recently and I had not rebooted Solaris 8 after that change. The change was connecting A1000 device to scsi port on the host(not external scsi adapter). I removed the A1000 cable from scsi port and there you go solaris 8 came up.
    Thought I 'd try booting Solaris 10 again and now the earlier errors don't come but I see following warnings,

    I tried to install Slaris 10 1/06 on Ultra 10. And it is failing. Can not get CDE Error message is Error opening PAM libraries.
    During the installation the Calendar failed ??
    It looks like bad package (SUNWglow) to me, it didn't bother me I can install it later, but.
    Even I was able to finish the installtion, I am unable to login, neither to console nor I am getting CDE up and running.
    root login to console fails because libnss3.so is missing.
    Try to boot the system to the single user mode and login ( I am able) and then check existance of /usr/lib/mps/libnss3.so.
    Apparently there is a patch 117724-10 that replaces old libnss3.so
    Cheers

  • Solar Power charging issues

    Hi
    I have a 52 amp Brunton solar panel and two 14 amp Brunton SolarRolls attached to my MacBook Pro in direct sunlight. The MagSafe power lamp glows bright green but NOT orange which I believe indicates that my battery is charging. In full sunlight I should be getting 80 amps from my solar panels which should be enough to provide a charge and get the orange light glowing, but it does not. In fact I left the computer on in SLEEP mode for one hour while connected to the solar panels and I lost 2% points of power. I am assuming that the panels are functioning properly and have no reason to believe otherwise. When I click on About This Mac and on to More Information the status indicates that I am not charging as does the little battery indicator in the Menu bar. I am puzzled, can anyone shed some light on this?
    Thanks
    John

    +The MagSafe power lamp glows bright green but NOT orange which I believe indicates that my battery is charging.+
    No, green indicates it's NOT charging, it's orange when it is charging.
    Are the panels connected to an Inverter to change the DC current to AC Voltage ?
    The MagSafe required input is 100-240 Volts 15Amp at 50-60 Hz - sounds like your panels aren't delivering that appropriately ...

  • Solaris - Windows JNI Issues

    *** Setting the scene ***
    I am trying to write a library called GuidGetPid which will have only 1 method to return the current pid.
    The header file generated by javah only has the following declaration in it:
    * Class:     GuidGenerator
    * Method:    getPid
    * Signature: ()I
    JNIEXPORT jint JNICALL Java_GuidGenerator_getPid
      (JNIEnv *, jclass);I am new to working with JNI, but I was succussful in implementing and running my program in Solaris.
    The implementation in C is:
    #include <unistd.h>
    #include <jni.h>
    #include "GuidGenerator.h"
    JNIEXPORT jint JNICALL
    Java_GuidGenerator_getPid(JNIEnv *env, jobject obj)
         return getpid();
    }*** My problem ***
    I am trying to implement this is WinXP now. In MS VC 6.0, I wrote the following cpp file.
    #include <process.h>
    #include <jni.h>
    #include "GuidGenerator.h"
    JNIEXPORT jint JNICALL
    Java_GuidGenerator_getPid(JNIEnv *env, jobject obj)
         return getpid();
    }Everything will compile, and java can find the library, but for some reason it cannot locate the method getPid. Specifically I get the error message
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: getPid
            at com.ml.mlim.mlde.pls.GuidGenerator.getPid(Native Method)
            at com.ml.mlim.mlde.pls.GuidGenerator.nextID(GuidGenerator.java:49)
            at com.ml.mlim.mlde.pls.tester.main(tester.java:23)Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can fix this?

    Hmm... strangely (maybe not), it works for me. Here, I've posted everything I used, including the generated header file and the command line arguments I used.
    ****** Java source file ******
    public class test
         public static native int getPid ();
         static
              System.loadLibrary ("test");
         public static void main (String [] args)
              System.out.println (getPid ());
    }*******Generated header file********
    /* DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE - it is machine generated */
    #include <jni.h>
    /* Header for class test */
    #ifndef _Included_test
    #define _Included_test
    #ifdef __cplusplus
    extern "C" {
    #endif
    * Class:     test
    * Method:    getPid
    * Signature: ()I
    JNIEXPORT jint JNICALL Java_test_getPid
      (JNIEnv *, jclass);
    #ifdef __cplusplus
    #endif
    #endif******** C source file ********
    #include <jni.h>
    #include <process.h>
    #include "test.h"
    JNIEXPORT jint JNICALL Java_test_getPid (JNIEnv *env, jclass cls)
         return (jint) getpid ();
    }******* Command line arguments *******
    cl -Ic:\j2sdk1.4.2\include -Ic:\j2sdk1.4.2\include\win32 test.c -LD -Fetest.dll
    Hope any of that information helped.
    If you still have problems, check if the dll is anywhere on your system (or rename it completely so that there will be no conflicts whatsoever).
    Cheers.
