It seems impossible to seek to the end of a video

I've got as video 20.033 secs long, data retrieved from the video metadata,
the following statement however does not work:
        public function destroy():void
            Logger.info('Destroying the Intro View');
            getmediaplayer().seek(videomedata.duration']);
Why is this so?
How can this be achieved?
]a[

Hi Mr Binitie -    There are a couple of reasons why this might be happening,  The first I see a syntax error in the line after metadata, there's an extra quote and square bracket.  The second is if the video isn't completely downloaded, not loaded or hasn't started playing.  What does canSeekTo(20.033) return?  It also won't seek if you are in the middle of a seek, since the player only processes one command at a time.

  • How can I record narration with no video or beyond the end of my video in iMovie?

I have a question about recording narration in iMovie.
I wrote a script to read as the narration for a movie I'm making. My thought was I could record the narration first, then add video to match the spoken words.
I've done this before in Sony Vegas on my PC and it worked out well, better than trying to speak to what was going on in the video after I record the video.
Unfortunately, if I try to record narration in iMovie without any video being there yet, it won't record. It appears I need to put a video clip on the timeline first.
If I put a short clip in and try to record narration beyond the end of it, iMovie quits recording at the end of the video clip.
So I went to quicktime and recorded my narration there and have 10 audio files (since I just don't seem to be able to read this whole script without making mistakes).
I then tried to add all 10 to my movie and I think it made me add a video clip first, but after I did, iMovie overlayed all 10 audio files on top of each other.
If I try to drag them over one at a time, I still can't get them to go sequentially unless I add more video to my movie.
There must be a way to add audio files or create narration without having to create a video file longer than your audio first.  Isn't there?
I just can't seem to find a way to get the audio files layed out one after another without more video.  Very frustrating.
At this point, I really want to know how to add audio files beyond the end of my video since I have them all recorded.
But I'd also like to know how to record narration beyond the end of the video too for future projects.
    Thanks!
    Brad

You could insert a bunch of placeholders in the timeline before doing the voiceover.
You can find a range of placeholders (they are actually templates used in iMovie Trailers) in the Maps, Backgrounds & Animatics browser. This is the last browser at the end of the centre toolbar, after the Titles and Transitions browsers. Click on it and scroll down to see all the animatics (aka placholders or templates). Drag a number of these into your project timeline - as many as you think you need to cover your audio.
When you've finished the voiceover, drag photos directly onto the animatics and select Replace from the pop-up menu. Adjust the timing by using the Inspector (double-click a photo to open the Inspector, then change the duration).

  • How can I create a hyperlink at the end of my video?

    Hi everyone-
Is it possible to create a hyperlink (or clickable URL) at the end of my video in Premiere Pro? I'd like to be able to have some simple language to an end card reading, "To learn more, click here" with a hyperlink leading to a relevant website.
(I know there are ways to do this in YouTube with Annotations, but this isn't my question. This video will not be hosted on YouTube.)
    Thanks!

As noted in the other reply, this isn't done through the video editor. It's something that needs to be available from the hosting service for the video ... and handled through that end. The sort of command that says "at this point in the timeline clicking on video gets this reaction ... ". So check with whatever "service" will be hosting it for the details of how they handle this, and then you would add the text into your video at the appropriate moment in "time" ... but it would actually be the command system of the hosting service that would have the actionable command.

  • Is there a way to detect the end of a video?

Is there a way to detect the end of a video.. .mp4 or youtube? I want to be able to detect the end of a video and then have it do something...ie play on timeline or go to and play symbol.

For youtube the code would be something like this:
    view-source:calkaweb.herobo.com/video.html
for HTML5 videos for youtube replace &version=3 with &html5=1 in the youtube URL
I have no idea how to impletent the youtube code into Edge tho other than an iframe but that wouldn't work I've tried :
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1285212
You would need to place all of the youtube codes into edge in order for it to work but I duno how to do that and no1 answered the question in the thread I made about it.
as for MP4/HTML5 video you can use
    var video = document.getElementsByTagName('video')[0];
        video.onended = function(e) {
          /*Do Something*/

  • Add interaction to the end of a video

I have a client that wants to have a video be used as an instructional video. The video will be visible on the internet - on the company website. The client wants someone to view the entire video then have the ability to fill out a form and not go to the form before reaching the end of the video. The form will be for the user to request a certificate. I know that with YouTube videos, you can add interactive elements / links within the video, like at the end. We would like to do this as well but not use a YouTube video. The client doesn't want the YouTube logo at all (we can make it invisible, but it still shows up on rollover).
So is there a way to add an interactive element (button or text link) at the end of a video that can be embedded in a web page that isn't shown until the end of the video?
We are showing videos using the JWPlayer (WordPress site).
I could have done this in a Flash (SWF) file that has a video but we want to let tablets and mobiles see the video.
An alternate direction is to use a JQuery function that sets a button as disabled until a certain amount of time expires.
I also thought about putting a video within a PDF.
I'd love to hear about any thoughts or possible directions you would suggest.
    Thanks! Chris

If you want your video to play on anywhere then you don't want Flash. You should be able to use a simple html5 page to play your video and then redirect the user to a new page, or display a new div to get to the form. Here's a good discussion of doing that sort of thing: http://help.videojs.com/discussions/questions/509-videojs-and-passing-an-event-at-the-end- of-the-video You can also look at the regular html video dom reference: http://www.w3schools.com/tags/av_prop_ended.asp

    thank you pete

Album artwork can be added/changed on songs via the iTunes Get Info menu item from the File menu. Note that music that you loaded from CDs will not have any artwork. If you want to aquire artwork you can try the File menu item Library > Get Artwork or you can download artwork from the internet, etc. Note that just changing artwork on your computer won't affect the iPod until you sync.
If the artwork is correct on your computer iTunes then delete all the music on your iPod by syncing with iTunes with no music selected. Then reload the music onto your iPod by again syncing with iTunes with all the music you want selected.

  • Enhancement requests do seem to be worthwhile in the end...

Having requested the continuous/shuffle music video playback several times in the last 18 months or so, and urged people to do so via...
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html
...it has finally been implemented and I'm chuffed to bits.
Well done Apple, this is a superb enhancement though why so long to implement ?
Personally I feel this was a huge oversight for AppleTV ever since it was realeased, and seriously hindered both use of AppleTV as a media extender and obviated the point of buying music videos unless you watch them on portable devices which I don't.
I had become increasingly negative about the prospect of ever seeing this feature
appear - this cat doesn't wear a hat so I'll have to eat something else instead!
I am now likely to spend a fair amount on music videos at iTunes Store having vowed not to do so again as having to select each one manually to play was tedious to say the least.
Really baffles me how Apple have missed the opportunity for revenue from music video sales via AppleTV, particularly when iPods had the shuffle feature.
As I commented a few weeks ago I think perhaps priorities since 2.0 update have been to get the store up and running properly before implementing enhancement requests or new features.
Very pleased Apple have finally implemented this extremely useful feature, it may not be pointless in using the link above, it just takes time.
So the next thing we should do is think of things to officially lobby for in future updates.
    My top 3 would be:
1 - Allowing connection via USB to rescue data from AppleTV for users who've had hard drive accidents/msihaps and haven't backed up recently - fact of life it happens even if you're careful! Files with DRM are safe from unauthorised use and those without DRM are no less secure than they were before anyway. This could even be done by only allowing AppleTV to dump media to an external USB device instead of allowing an external connection to AppleTV itself, and could be controlled from say a backup menu option. Alternatively full manual bidirectional drag and drop of media via iTunes to/from AppleTV could be implemented with a mode to prevent a new sync library connection wiping existing content.
What's in it for Apple? Huge boost in consumer confidence that Apple allow them to easily recover their personal files in the event of a problem - there should be no need to hack or dismantle AppleTV just to get at your data. Just think of all those people saying thank heaven I had an appleTV as my Macbook died and I'd forgotten to backup those wedding photos etc. We see examples of frustrated users almost daily with this problem.
2 - Additional codec support - it's all very well saying h264 is the best thing since sliced bread and the current Apple/Apple Store standard, but the limited video codec support is probably the biggest hindrance to AppleTV becoming an extremely popular media device. It has the slickest interface of commercial products but many prospective customers have files in long established older formats that are incompatible without prior time consuming and quality degrading transcoding. Locking down AppleTV in this way alienates many potential users. The argument about the source of files in other formats may have some validity, but it is not Apple's job to infer that a user's file is of dubious origin simply for not being in h264 format. I am not condoning filesharing/torrents etc merely saying that most people have older files in older formats they want to use without conversion. Many DVD players allow playback of DivX (never use it myself), and if there's a licensing issue offer playback as a per device plugin option paid for by the user in the same way the QT MPEG2 pluging is offered.
What's in it for Apple? Happy customers who would simply use something else like a PS3 to view their files and not buy AppleTV. New customers who would not have purchased otherwise. Happy customers who no longer need to trasncode files to watch. You'd be happy with being able to use older files, but would also get the benefit of using iTunes Store for new things.
The overhwelming thing would be a sense of 'fair play' gained by the consumer. For me personally since 2.0+ the device's overwhelming iTunes Store based menu design sticks in the craw and has relegated MY content to the bottom of menus. Give us the best of both worlds - an iTunes Store top level section for purchases and separate simple top level sections for combined personal/purchased media as in software 1.0/1.1. In essence declutter the menu system for playback lumping all the purchasing/preview/search options together.
3 - Tricky. Most useful would be an AppleTV SDK and 3rd party plugins/apps via iTunes paid and/or free similar to the iPhone model - I can live without widgets/visualisers/social networking plugins etc but they would be valuable to many users. As far as I know the iPhone Apps have been a huge success - no reason why not on AppleTV too, though commiting to this pathway would probably be very expensive in terms of developing a secure/sandboxed environment for running apps/plugins unless they could port the iPhone software fairly simply.
Anyhow, once again delighted Apple have added the music video feature - I will start buying music videos from iTunes music store again. Bad for my wallet but good for Apple and AppleTV. Perhaps I should be thankful and consider how much I've saved not buying music videos in the last 18 months or so.....
What would you like to see? Some things will be impossible/hardware limited, others quite feasible.
Discuss, but also use the formal feedback link to give enhancements any chance to appear!
Let's all help make AppleTV a success, and hopefully the media extender to beat!

to be honest, adding playlists (or whatever it is) for just music videos is of no use to me.
it is playlists for tv shows that i need. ie the capability of playing episode 1 to 5 of a particular season back to back.
Funny isn't it, how we all do things differently, have different preferences, enhancement wishes etc.
For me it's not really a big chore to watch an episode then to manually start the next assuming I or Mrs AC are still awake!
For episodes of short duration say 5-15 minutes I appreciate this could get annoying, and for longer episodes I suppose we are used to Play All type options on DVDs.
If these are iTunes TV Shows you're stuck at the moment, but if they're say 'home recordings converted for AppleTV' you could theoretically get round it by setting their types to Music Video. Clumsy but it should work.
I'm sure you can see the benefit of playlists/shuffling for music videos that may be 3-4 minutes each on average. I rediscovered dozens of iTunes Store music video purchases last night and thought 'yes, this is one of the big reasons why I bought AppleTV initially' - it did not say anywhere that AppleTV could not do this somewhat logical task - assumptions are dangerous though and invariably you only find out the full capabilities of products when using them.
additional codec support ? i would say there is no chance of this. x264 is pretty standard theses days (if you discount the pirate industry). x264 is even used for HD TV in the UK.
I agree, there's more chance of Tony Blair making a comeback!
Piracy is rife and I do not support it.
My views on fair use of media you personally own are quite different.
It's not the codec/container that's the issue it's how the material was acquired in the first place - it may simply be your home videos, digitised off-air recordings etc that is in a 'legacy' format that you don't want to transcode. We know from the modders that most other SD formats are playable on the current hardware so that's not the issue.
Take say an Elgato EyeTV device - I can record anything off-air, edit and transcode for AppleTV or just transcode unedited automatically. How much more sensible it woudl be if AppleTv simply supported the MPEG-2 transport stream playback rather than wasting time and computing/power resources doing the transcode.
I have some some standard video-CDs I made on a PC in the late 1990's, how nice it would be to be able to play the MPEG-1 content back without fiddling - it's not as though converting to h264 will do anything for the quality!

  • How do i get rid of black space at the end of a video presentation?

After creating a project in iMovie and burning it onto a DVD, I realized that when the movie was finished, it did not return to the Menu right away and instead it played 20 or so seconds of blackness that I can't seem to get rid of. Has anyone else had this problem? And how do i fix it? I have also checked if my any audio or narration tracks lengths were that long, and none were.
    Please help.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

In the course of your editing you may inadvertently have left a tiny scrap of audio or video way out at the end of your time line, with a large gap between it and the last clip in your movie. Your movie will play out until it reaches that scrap, leaving a large black gap at the end of the movie. Sometimes these scraps are so tiny that they are difficult to see and can be overlooked in normal view. Expand your time line view to its fullest extent and check to see if you can find such a scrap, left over from editing, and then delete it. It's worth a look, though you may not find anything. That's all I can think of, unless for some reason you have a 20 second long black clip at the end of your movie that you forgot to delete. (Don't laugh--it happened to me once.)
Good luck in resolving your issue.

  • Audio cutting out at the end of my video

So I exported a AVCHD video into an uncompressed AVI and then re imported it. I brought it into the time line and edited it a bunch and also brought in another video and mixed that in. For about half of the video, I used the audio from the video itself... but in different sections, I brought in a separate wav file. I used this wav file towards the end of the video for about 1 minute of the video. After I was done, I exported the entire project into a normal avi file because what I'm going to do for now is upload these to YouTube and so I don't want the file sizes to be too huge.
So I opened up the final avi file in VLC player... and everything is great... except the last 30 seconds or so of the video doesn't have the audio. It plays the audio from the wav about halfway through... and then it stops. The video continues... but there is no sound.
I went back into the project and everything looks fine. The wav file extends to the end and the audio plays fine when I preview the video. So I exported again just to see if it was some sort of error the first time... but no... it did the same thing.
So why is the audio cutting out at the end? How do I fix it?
    Thanks in advance.

Ok I figured out how to do a better quality MP4. However I had two problems. 1... the quality isn't near as good as the AVI. 2... now the audio cuts out in even more places instead of just the end. It seems that the .wav file I imported is causing the problems. In the AVI, the wav file cuts out at the end. In the MP4, the wav file cuts out in the middle AND at the end. I don't understand why this is happening. The wav file plays all the way through normaly, and it also sounds find when I preview the video... but when I encode it... it cuts out in places regardless of the format. Is there some step I'm missing in the process to make sure the audio is all in place?

  • How to add an image at the end of a video?

    I tried following these instructions https://pantherfile.uwm.edu/type/www/116/SoftwareTutorials/QuickTimePro/DougProu ty_QTPro_Tutorial/QuickTimePro_DougProuty.pdf
But can't find where to choose the frame rate. So when I add it to my video it goes away so quick you can't even read it.
Can anyone please help me with this.
    Thank you.

Those instructions are very old and not intended for a single image.
In your case you need to give your still image some "time" (duration). Easy to do with QuickTime Player Pro.
Open any audio file in QuickTime, make a selection (in and out points) that matches the duration you wish for the image file. Let's say an mp3 with a ten second selection. Leave this window open.
Open your image file in QuickTime. Select All (Edit menu) and Copy. Close this window.
Switch to your audio file selection. From the Edit menu choose Add to Selection & Scale. You'll see the window expand in dimensions as your image is added.
Open the Movie Properties window (Windows menu). You'll notice it now has a "Video" track.
Single click on the Video track and then click the "Extract" button (upper left of the window). The ten second video track will open in a new Player window.
Close the audio file window without saving.
Do a "Save As" on the image video track. Give this new .mov file a name and location. Leave the window open.
Select All and copy the ten second video track. Switch to the movie file you want to add it to and move the playhead to the end. From the Edit menu "Paste" the ten second video. It will be added to the end of the movie.
Save As (self contained) and name the new video.

I recently migrated to a Mac from 25 years on a PC, but I'm having trouble with a little problem. I can't find a way to put my logo at the end of the videos I create. I've watched the tutorials, and the logo always ends up cropped, no matter what size I make it. So if I can't do that, is there a way to make a title card with an image instead of text? -- if I can't recreat the transparent logo I want, then maybe I could try thsat.
To see what Im trying to create, here's an example http://player.vimeo.com/video/24685312. That's my website and it's been down for a couple of weeks, so I'd like any ideas of a solutions anyone has. Thanks -- Matt

Just like japamac said, but be aware that if you use the fully automatic settings, it will only show as long as the other slides, Don't put too much there!
You can also use Pages and save as a PDF.

  • Any way to batch add a frame of black at the end to several videos?

I'm working with a huge number of files that I have to convert to MP4, but I was asked to put one frame of black at the end. I didn't find any way to do this in Media Encoder, I'm importing the files onto Premiere where I have a second of black video at the 30;00 mark since all the files are 30 seconds exactly. The out point is set to 30;00 to it only puts one frame in there. This is obviously going to take too long because I have to have a ton of duplicated empty sequences, plus importing all the original files onto Premiere. The only automated part will be exporting all the sequences, but I'm trying to find a way to automate this even further, just dropping all the original files somewhere and have them all re-encoded with one black frame at the end. Does anyone know if this is possible? Or if not, any other software on Mac that might work for this purpose?
    Thanks

    Hello Ben,
I have been running into this problem for 2+ years. I have a friend at Apple who used to work in ProApps. He checked around for me and it is a known (but obviously ignored) issue with the third party codec Apple has licensed for 3G video. It affects 3G video exported from QuickTime Pro, iMovie and yes even the very expensive Final Cut Pro, because they all use the same codec for 3G. I use Compression Master instead. It is now incorporated/acquired by Telestream (makers of Flip4Mac).

  • Javascript to hide the end of a video

About two years ago Dave Merchant wrote in this forum:
You can deactivate a video (returning to the poster image) using Acrobat JavaScript, but can't make it happen automatically at the end of playback unless you use a custom videoplayer widget. The standard widget doesn't fire an event when playback ends.
I have a button that is set to hide certain fields on a page. I also want this button to hide the last frame of a video that may have been played on the page.
    Show/Hide Fields won't do it.
Does anyone know the JavaScript that Dave mentioned.

    George,
    Two things:
    (1) You need to read my post more carefully. Not only couldn't you respond correctly to my JavaScript question, but I never used the words "Shut up." I am not that rude as to tell someone to shut up.
    (2) You really don't know when to quit.
So, once again I ask you to stop responding so I can concentrate on any answers that may come from those who do know what they're talking about.
You may not realize it, but some people subscribe to forums using email. All you're doing now is cluttering my phone with your bloviating.
Seriously. At this point you're not helpful nor funny.

  • How do I extend the end of a video clip?

    Hi,
I have placed my video clip in my composition and at the end of it, I want to extend the last frame of that video all the way to the end. Just freeze the last frame. How do I do this?
I searched this forum using search terms like "extend" and "freeze video" but found no results.
    Thanks,
    JayGatz

By dragging the last keyframe, you are stretching the length of the entire clip (slowing it all down), which you probably don't want.
To just hold the last frame of a clip:
    1) select clip
    2) enable time remap (ctrl-alt-t)
    3) goto outpoint (o)
    4) set time remap keyframe
    5) delete end keyframe (the one to the right)
    6) drag layer endpoint to desired spot (you can also goto time where you want clip to end and hit alt ])
The reason you need to create a keyframe at the last frame is Time Remap places a keyframe after the last frame, on a blank frame. If you were to leave it like that, extend out the layer length, it'd be blank. By placing a keyframe on the last full frame, it holds that frame.
    Hope it makes sense.
PS Not sure if you were aware, but you can use whatever keyframes you want with time remap. easy ease, hold, etc.
