Itunes files missing

My itunes has worked fine for several months now, since xmas infact. untill the other day it decided to not work. whilst trying to start i tunes the following message appears
"itunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. please reinstall itunes"
i proceeded to reinstall itunes off the disk i got with my i pod, and i downloaded the latest itunes and installed that. i am still given the above message.
any help would be greatly appreciated as i need my music.
xx

You don't really need the CD cuz whats on it is outdated anyways. Try uninstalling iTUnes AND Quicktime by going to control panel>add & remove in windows.
Once done disable antivirus or any other security programs, then goto apple.com and download/install the latest iTunes.
If you have an iPod, go here and install the latest iPod updater to your PC as well http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

  • I received a gift card and when I redeemed it an error message said that I had some itunes files missing and that I needed to reinstall itunes.  Will I still have all my credits when I download itunes?

I received an online gift card for Father's Day.  When I tried to redeem the gift then I received a error message saying I had some itune files missing and I needed to reinstall/download itunes.  Will I still have my previous purchase credits after downloading and reistalling itunes?

You will, because the credited funds are on your iTunes account, not the application. When you reinstall iTunes just configure it with your old iTunes account and your credits will be there waiting for you.

  • ITunes files missing in Media Browser for all other apps

I've read many and posted a couple times about this issue, but new information has come to light, so I figured I'd give it one more shot.
Somewhere along the line from migrating from 2007 MacBook to my newer 2010 iMac, I've lost the ability to see my iTunes files in other apps in the media browser.  This is very specific to the user that my main library (237gb).  I've got a separate library on a different user account, no issues there.  It happens in all of the iLife apps(like trying to add music to a slideshow), iWork apps (clicking on media), Mail (attaching a .mp3).  Oddly enough, Audacity has no issue seeing the iTunes files.  I've tried several solutions, including re-installing the Media Browser, and trashing the .xml file (Apple's own solution found here). Nothing worked.  I had hoped the release of Lion might fix the problem, and I upgraded "the Apple way."  The problem persisted.
I had thought perhaps the issue lied from carring over old code, apps, or whatever from the migration.  I had hoped doing a clean install of Lion might do the trick.  I finally got an external to move the library too, and do a very manual migration.  Copied all documents and media to the external, boot from the Lion Boot CD I created before upgrading the 1st time, reformat drive, install Lion.  It went off without a hitch.  I made sure to copy all of the database files (.xml, .itl), and while all of my settings, playlists, and play counts were preserved (something that is important to me), the same problem reared it's head.
Another idea came was to start a new user account, and just use the media files, and not the database files.  After simply dragging the media folder into iTunes and copying the files (the drobo has plenty of space), it worked perfectly.  Except I had lost all of my play counts, settings, and playlists.
So the question is, is there a solution to fix the old user account, or is there a way to rebuild what I've lost in the new user account?  I'm using completely updates software in Lion, iLife, iTunes, iWork, etc.

Turns out my "iTunes Library.itl" file was corrupt.  I used the old "iTunes Music Library.xml" file to rebuild a new library with existing playlists and play counts.  Though that didn't go off completely without a hitch, I did find this solution.  Problem solved.

  • ITunes files missing after MacBook Pro software restore

After my MacBook slowed to a crawl, I decided to restore the system software (OS and Applications) and ended up with much improved responsiveness and performance. I keep my ITunes files on an external hard drive. When the restore was completed, I set the library address to the external hard drive, and copied and pasted all my music, video and applications into Itunes window. My music came in fine, my movies are there as well, but my apps never showed, and my TV shows didn't appear either. I tried pasting 1 TV show file into ITunes TV Shows, and I tried pasting all of them. A small window came up telling me the system was "processing" the files, but they never showed up in the ITunes window. I also tried double clicking on the file name on the external hd (sometimes that imports them as well into ITunes window), but no luck there either. Any advice? Thanks.

This happened to my 2006 Macbook when the logic board was replaced under Applecare by my local service centre due to a known issue at the time (random shutdown). It didn't affect the warranty or cause me any problems so I didn't bother to go back to them although I later found out that they could and should have reset it at the time.
The only thing that might have been a problem if I had had more than one computer was that it made my iTunes account think that I had two computers authorized, i.e, a sort of "ghost" left over from the previous serial number. As you can only have five machines authorized with an account it means you have one less available to you even though you don't actually have that computer. This was not a problem to me as I didn't need five authorizations, and anyway you can go into your account once a year and reset your account. You may need to do this if you have five computers you need to play your iTunes purchases on.
Still lazy of the repair centre not to reset the serial number for you though.

  • Itunes files missing says to reinstall itunes

hi my itunes is saying that there are missing files and to reinstall... however it won't reinstall!!! any suggestions???

top fixes for a new iTunes install/upgrade are
    - turning off security software such as Norton before the install as Apple suggests
    - installing QuickTime standalone, not regular
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
    - setting up Norton to allow iTunes
    - scanning for malware with ewido (Free at www.ewido.net/en/)
    - last but not least, using MSCONFIG to find Windows conflicts

  • Western Digital My Book Live iTunes files missing

I have a Western Digital My Book Live in which I keep my iTunes Library on. Last night we watched a movie on Apple TV streeming from iTunes. When I got up this morning to connect to itunes on the computer it said "iTunes Library cannot be found" So I went to the Western Digital My Book Live drive to select the Library. To my surprize there was nothing in the iTunes folder. The drive says that 1.2TB are used and my iTunes Library is about 800GB so the files should be there as no one has deleated them.
If anyone has any idea of what caused this of how the fix it please help. This is a lot of info to loose.

  • ITunes file missing? Won't uninstall.

Whenever I popped a music CD into my computer, it would make a few noises and then just spit it back out (non-music CDs work fine). So I went on iTunes and it told me there was a problem with the disk burning or something and suggested I reinstall iTunes.
However, whenever I try to uninstall, it tells me it can't find the 'itunes.msi' file. It offers two sources in a drop down bar, none of which work.
The error message said something about the installation package having something to with this file, so I popped the original 2006 iTunes cd I had used to install iTunes and tried to use that as the source, it still didn't work.
Where could I find this file, or is there a way to bypass this so I can reinstall iTunes?

However, whenever I try to uninstall, it tells me it can't find the 'itunes.msi' file.
Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try reinstalling iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • How do I find out where iTunes thinks missing files are?

I have several hundred "missing" files in my iTunes library but they are all actually on the computer. But I don't remember where the were previously. I add dozens of songs at a time to my library all the time and there is no Earthly way for me to constantly remember where they were before. I don't just want to reimport the files because I have several hundred playlists with these files and it would be completely stupid to edit them all one at a time when all I need to do is to move them back to where iTunes thinks they should be. So where is that? The Windows media player has a column that displays file location. Why doesn't iTunes? (This is so stupid. It makes things -not just this- so much easier when you have the file location in the music list in your music player.)
Is there a way to find out where iTunes thinks the missing files should be at?

    Chris CA wrote:
How do I find out where iTunes thinks missing files are?
The exclamation mark means ITunes doesn't think they are anywhere.
If you right click - get info on a song then view the Info tab, you will see where iTunes last used it from.
I'm not a newbie. I know quite a lot about iTunes. You sound like you don't though because if you did you would know that this is not true. If you "right click - get info on a song" (pressing cancel to the Locate popup) "then view the SUMMARY (not info) tab" you will see "Not Available" where the file location usually is. I wouldn't have asked this question if I hadn't gone through the steps already.
Thanks for trying though. Next time, please try the advice before you give it.
I add dozens of songs at a time to my library all the time and there is no Earthly way for me to constantly remember where they were before
You should not have to remember anything about where they were.
    I agree.
Are you always moving them around?
When I install a new hard drive. Yes. I generally keep everything organized and I let iTunes keep the folder organized but several years ago I used windows media player to organize my media.
Frankly I don't know HOW the recent songs/videos/etc. go missing. But some do. Maybe I accidentally move a folder without realizing it. Mistakes happen. Then I need to move it back but since I didn't know I did it in the first place I can't possibly be expected to remember where I moved it from.
Do you have iTunes prefs -> Advanced Keep ITunes music folder organized ticked and Copy files to iTunes ... ticked?
*OF COURSE!* Again, I'm not a newbie.
I have several hundred playlists with these files
Why would you have several hundred playlists?
I don't mean to sound rude but you sound like an Apple fanboy. Are you trying to tell me how I should use my own program? The answer to the question is I am a salsa instructor/DJ and I am constantly adding songs and videos to my library. Every month I have various salsa events, classes and performances that I do. I use my iPhone for the music. I need to maintain the playlists because students/teachers/studios/clubs/bars/churches/etc. call me back and want a repeat of the great salsa night I gave them a year ago. Naturally my playlists are highly organized into folders. So, I still have them and I need them.
Apple has its own ideas about how people should use its stuff but everyone is unique and our needs therefore are unique too. Apple doesn't realize this and still wants us to do things "the Apple way" even though "the Apple way" only works well for people who want their hand held through everything. This is why I say you sound like a fanboy. You don't know my situation and question if I need hundreds of playlists. I do.
I just need an answer to the question.
Thank you for your reply though. It gave me hope, for a time.

After having uploaded the .zip-file to the iTunes Store (update of an existing app), I got the following error-report from the iTunes store: Missing Nib File - The referenced nib file "MainWindow.nib" was not found in the application bundle. Is it possible that this error occurred while creating the app in the Adobe app builder or where do I have to look for this error? The first uploading of the original app worked without an error. • Files Missing in iTunes Library

I am trying to download a song for dance from a website to iTunes and then to my iPod touch. I got the song into my iTunes library, but now it won't import to my iPod. In the library there is a little white exlamation point inside a grey circle next to the song. When I double click on the icon, it gives me this message: "The song 'Breakeven' could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" Then I click locate and find where it is saved on my computer, open that file, and then nothing happens and I am still not able to import it to my iPod. I need help please!
