ITunes No Longer Able to Burn CD's

I've long appreciated how simple it is to use iTunes for my various music applications, especially burning CD's. For some reason I can no longer get iTunes to do this! Everytime I try there is a message saying iTunes cannot locate my CD burner. I went to Windows Media and it has no problem. I've downloaded the latest version of iTunes twice and it still doesn't fix it.
I've seen that others here have experienced this as well. Is there a reason that Apple hasn't addressed this? Have they and I'm just unaware? I would appreciate any and all input that would be helpful. Thanks!

This just started for me too. Isn't there a fix from apple on this? This is in apple's software, not the computer. I can import cd's through the burner but it says disc burner or software not found when trying to burn one.I tried several things but one of the solutions listed is to uncheck the cd text button but my cd text button cannot be changed(faded but not gone)I've tried to repair it,uninstall and reinstall, update drivers, new gear driver software, slowing burning speeds to 8x or less but this seems to be a software issue. Help!!!

  • I am no longer able to burn a CD in iTunes

I am not able to burn a proper CD any more. I have used iTunes before successfully to do this. But lately it will appear to be burning just fine, but if I take the disc out of the disc drive and then put it back in again, iTunes will claim I've inserted a blank disc. I've been hunting all over the support pages for answers and have run out of ideas.
Things I know and/or have tried already:
    a) I know that I can only burn from playlists.
    b) I know that I need to keep the playlists short enough to fit on a CD
    c) I know that I need to have it set to burn as an Audio CD. I tried a Data CD once, but it doesn't play on a CD player.
    d) I know that I am limited in how many times I burn a playlist that has items on it purchased from the iTunes store--7 times.
    e) There is nothing wrong with my CD drive. I have tested it, and did "Run Diagnostics" under iTunes Help. I can burn in other programs if I need to. I did however, uninstall some of those programs to be sure they weren't in conflict. Still it didn't work.
    f) I have the latest iTunes for Windows. I actually uninstalled iTunes completely, and then downloaded it fresh.
    g) I have the lastest Service Pack on my computer.
    h) I read that sometimes trying to burn at a slower speed works--I tried but got the same results.
    i) I tried "repairing the iTunes installation". No help there.
    j) Everything that I'm trying to burn IS authorized on my computer. It is the only computer I use iTunes on.
I don't know what else to try! I feel like I've tried it all. I even asked at an Apple Retail Store, but they just told me to do the same things I've already tried. Does anyone out there know the secret??? Thanks for any help you can give me that really works!!

You're probably aware by now, but this seems to have been a brief glitch and appears now to be resolved. If you haven't tried again yet, you should do so now.

  • No longer able to burn DVDs

My Powerbook is suddenly refusing to burn DVDs. I have spent the past couple of days testing with a variety of brands including Verbatim, but I get the error message 'Communication to the disc drive failed error code 0x80020022'. I can play DVDs and burn CDs as normal.
Does this mean that there is some sort of hardware error (I have tried cleaning the lasers with a DVD cleaner?) and I will no longer be able to burn DVDs? If this is the case what are my options? Is it possible to replace the Powerbook's superdrive, and if so is this expensive/complicated? Alternatively can anyone recommend an external DVD burner?
    Thanks for your help

    Hi Dave,
I'm not sure about your tech issue...
However I can recommend some good external DVD burners
    LaCie is good (expensive)
LG - a friend has one and works very well
NEC - identical to LaCie but cheaper- if you do a search you will see that LaCie uses NEC drives in its products. You need to buy an external enclosure.
I recommend the NEC I've had one for over 2 years and still works flawlessly.
You should also consider (if you go with NEC) to buy an enclosure that has FireWire and USB 2

    PowerBook 12 (home), PM G5 1.8 1 gig RAM (work)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

  • ITunes no longer able to sync with Outlook

    Hello,
This is my first ever post on any forum so please go easy on me.
I have an iPhone 4s, and iPad1 and run Windows7. I recently tried using iCloud but didn't like the Outlook calendar (appearance or speed) so wanted to go back to just syncing via my USB cable.
I have followed all steps on here, restoring the iPhone, removing and reinstalling iTunes completely (5 times now) and my phone and iPad will no longer sync, they just sit in never land at either backing up calendar or contacts (I have tried leaving them on for hours at a time). I have now lost my calendar and all of the music off the iPhone so hoping for a solution.
I have heard iTunes no longer supports syncing via iTunes, they want you to use iCloud but can't find anything definitive on this but it would explain why I can't get this to work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I feel like I have tried everything.
    Thanks in advance.

Have you tried using Google's sync services that are free yet? It sounds to me like you are not using Exchange for your iPhone with work. So, that would leave it open to use with Google. Keep your Google sync with your work calendar (Outlook), then sync up the Google Calendar with iCal so you have the calendar at home. Separately, setup your iPhone to sync real-time with your Google Calendar using the Microsoft Exchange settings. If all you are trying to do is get your one calendar to be the same everywhere, that will do it and it's all free. Here are links to instructions:

  • Just Updated iTunes - No Longer Able to Convert Apple Lossless Format

I just installed the newest version of iTunes, version 9.1.0.79. I have a bunch of songs in the lossless .m4a format and I would like to convert them (or at least create versions of them) that are in mp3 format. The simple right click menu in the new version of iTunes no longer includes the option to convert anything! My iPod does not have the capacity to hold too many of these songs, how can I convert them to mp3 to actually use them? Is this feature permanently removed? I would rather not have to download and install an older version of iTunes just for this purpose.

The simple right click menu in the new version of iTunes no longer includes the option to convert anything!
The option is still under the Advanced menu. It is simply removed from the right click contextual menu.
iTunes 9.1 has the option to automatically convert to 128 kbps for all iPods now (instead of only the iPod shuffle).
    Select the Summary tab.
No need to convert before loading the iPod.

  • No longer able to burn CDs in iTunes 9.2.1.5

I looked at the FAQ, checked everything it suggests including device filters, everything looks good. I can backup iTunes library to CD-R no problem. I can burn audio CD-R with other programs no problem (I used exact audio copy). iTunes detects both audio and MP3 data CDs no problem. I just cannot burn a disc from iTunes. I used to be able to a couple of weeks ago. I still can on a different computer. I get no error messages. When I insert a blank CD-R, the drive reads it for a while, but iTunes never seems to see it.
I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes. No change.
I browsed through the forums, didn't find anything that helped.
Any suggestions for anything else to try would be appreciated.

I have cleaned off my hard drive and re installed Windows 7. I downloaded Itunes V 10 and still can not burn a disk. I tunes error msg says Itunes.exe has campatiblity problem with old setting. I have disabled all compatibility settings.

  • Upgraded to Lion and no longer able to burn music cds in itunes... anyone else with same problem?

does anyone have similar problems, or a solution for this situation?
    thanks in advance

I bought a three-year-old MacBook from a co-worker, no longer under warranty, that was recently upgraded to Lion. I can't see CDs or DVDs, blank or with media on them. I see other people having similar problems, but no solutions yet from Apple. I know, I should have checked this before I bought the machine, but now it's my problem. Do I need to back out of Lion or does someone know if there is a solution on the horizon?

  • ITunes no longer recognizes my burner after upgrade to VIsta!!

I honestly don't get what's going on: I recently updated my OS to Vista ultimate x64 and now iTunes decides it doesn't want to recognize my DVD-RW drive. iTunes says that there's no recognizable burning device present. But here's where it gets weird: i can play cds and IMPORT them to my iTunes library, and it knows when i've inserted a cd. but i can't burn them.
Now, i've updated my firmware, i'm running the most current version of iTunes and windows has all the newest updates. So why won't this thing work? The support section from apple had an article involving some registry edits that could help but the article is kinda flawed (it says to delete the lowerfilters but there are no lowerfilters) and they're solution didn't work anyway. apple needs to step on the gas here and produce a REAL vista-ready version of iTunes, because its not getting any better.
I also think it's funny that if you post a question on the wrong forum, rather than answer your question, an apple rep will tell you that you've posted on the wrong forum and need to re-post at the correct forum. wow, now THAT's service...

Here are my diagnostic results as well (just so that people know that i'm doing every available step. and no i do not have any virtual drive applcations installed):

If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

  • Why is Itunes no longer able to launch from my windows 7 PC?

The last week Itunes has not been able to open on my windows 7 PC. I have tried to run in admin mode and still nothing. Can someone help me?

  • ITunes no longer able to sync Calendar items and Bookmarks on iPhone.

Things have been going great with syncing my iPhone through iTunes on my 24" intel iMac, until yesterday (3/9/08). I haven't changed anything in the last couple of days. I always download and install the latest iPhone, iMac, iTunes updates the same day they come out. So it's been about a week since those last updates, and things synced fine until just yesterday. I create and reschedule A LOT of calendar items on my iPhone, and create a fair amount of bookmarks as well.
Anyone else having this problem? Any solutions?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Wayne

Well, it's been over a week now, and still no real answers on how to fix this syncing issue. Does anyone know how to revert my iPhone to the previous version of its software? Things worked fine until the recent update.
I've even opened up my quandry to Cliff and the forum gang at GSPN.tv's "Help iGot a Mac" podcast and forums. Here is the link to that thread: http://gspn.tv/forum/index.php?topic=977.0
Maybe together, a better solution that a full iPhone restore is out there (I just can't risk losing the 120+ calendar items I've created on my iPhone since the last successful sync with my iMac).
    Thanks in advance,
    Wayne

  • ITunes no longer able to "browse covers on this computer" after replacing igdumd64.dll file.

windows 7 home premium HP dv7t-7000 i7 computer
was having issues w com surrogate crashing constantly when trying to view photos. solution was to delete and replace igdumd64.dll, which is the Intel Graphics/ DirectX something or other file.
the com surrogate crash is fixed, but now itunes says "iTunes unable to browse covers on this computer."
    i know they are related.
    how do i resolve?

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? It may be of some help: iTunes 7 for Windows is unable to display album covers in Cover Flow

  • While importing and burning some CDs, my entire library has disappeared.  Also, there no longer is a "burn file to disc" command in the File menu.  I have downloaded the latest version of itunes which restored only tracks I bought from the iTunes store.

Also, the "burn playlist to disc" command has disappeared from the File options.  I downloaded the latest version of iTunes but that only restored tracks I'd bought from the iTunes store.  I also tried setting up another logon.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be copied & renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to an earlier state. Look for a recent .tmp file that is similar in size to the .itl files in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder. If it has happened repeatedly you may want the earliest such file generated since the last iTunes upgrade.
If applicable, see iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor to most since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems in some cases it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any AV scanning process.

  • ITunes no longer burns discs

Hi, I came here in support of a new issue that has arose.
Heres the scoop: I have already created a playlist, click burn disc. It starts up fine as it has no errors when creating the disc. It then initializes, and says that it is burning the first track. However here is where the problem arises.
The status bar never moves, its just keeps saying burning the first track. The drive is spinning, sounding like it is burning regularly. So I let it sit for a while, come back, still the same exact place and the drive spinning like its burning. So I then click cancel after about 30 min. Of course it doesn't cancel, or won't eject so I force quit iTunes, and the disc stops spinning.
Then, once it quits, the disc starts spinning again and appears on the desktop, and iTunes reopens. The disc shows the right amount of tracks and the correct times, but when I go to play them, its just no sound.
I then try it again after restarting, and I get the same result. I even try changing the disc burn speeds and still the same result. Now I'm tired of wasting cds so I've come for help.
Some other details: I have recently updated to 10.5, before that I have been able to burn cds in iTunes with no such problem. Also, whenever I try burning unsuccessfully, more and more of my hard drive space gets eaten up and doesn't come back even when quitting iTunes until I restart. The drive is a dvd writer, but isn't factory installed, in the past versions of X I had to use patch burn to burn from the ilife programs, but its no longer needed in 10.5.

A friend this morning says that he thinks that iTunes has put a DRM (Digital Rights Management) code on any music that is imported into iTunes, whether it is purchased from the iTunes store, ripped off a commercial CD, or even copied from your friend's homemade CD, and that's why after some time is elapsed, you can no longer make a music CD from playlists in iTunes. He compared it to Rhapsody, which allows you to listen to your downloaded music as long as you still pay your monthly Rhapsody bill. Could this be true?!?! I can still make an MP3 disc, or backup my iTunes library to a DVD, but I can no longer make a music CD. Like others have described, iTunes starts the process, checks the playlist length, initializes the blank music CD, and then stalls, saying it is writing the first track, but will say that all day. One has to force quit iTunes to get the disc out. It shows the correct disc title and track names when inserted in a player with this capability, but all one hears is static-like noise when the disc is played.

  • ITunes no longer burning MP3 discs?

I am running iTunes 6.0.2 on my iBook which has, until recently, worked well. I don't know at what (upgrade) point things changed, but in the past when I created a long playlist and then selected 'burn' I would be told that the list is too long for a regular audio CD and then asked if I wanted to burn an MP3 CD. This no longer happens. Also, blank CDs no longer show up in the finder or on the desktop (so I can no longer put other files onto a blank disc); however, if I have a blank disc in the drive, I can burn a normal-length audio CD.
    Please help.
    R.

Thanks. Yes, the box you mention in Finder prefs it ticked. The problem is with blank discs, they do not show up anywhere on my computer when they are in the drive; even though iTunes 'sees' them enough to be able to burn them. However, I like to burn other data to discs too, but can no longer do it since the disc does not appear on the desktop or in the Finder.
    Thanks again,
    R.

  • I am not able to burn a CD on Itunes

I am not able to burn a CD on Itunes. When I click burn it opens up the CD drive and I put in a black CD. When it goes back in it shows the computer is reading the disk, but then suddenly stops.
