ITunes Podcast Author and Description tags..

My podcast xml syntax is 100% perfect and validated yet when I submitted my podcast to iTunes, it showed up as having no author and description tags - what is up with that?
I submitted it anyway - 5 days ago - and today it's still not in the iTunes directory.
How long should it take to be approved and if it's not approved, will I be able to submit it again?

Do you have itune tags included?
Make sure to do a Get Info in itnues once you manually add the file. Set the form values and then use that file.
Make sure whatever is generating the rss feed adds itune tags as well. Feedburner and others do this.
How long to get approved- could be a day or it could be ??

I have created my podcast in garageband and then uploaded it to Iweb. I submitted my podcast to itunes and it has been approved. The title of the Podcast is Heaven's Lounge and I put it in the music category. Below is the link.

How do I change picture, author and description of new podcast submitted?

So I just submitted a new podcast, The Jay and Clay Show, and it was accepted by iTunes. However it has the wrong picture, author and description and I need to change it. Apple's technical support e-mail was not too helpful on this. Also I am not too knowledgeable about RSS feeds so if you could please explain the steps necessary to change this that would be great.
My RSS feed URL is: thejayandclayshow.wordpress.com/feed
and my URL is: thejayandclayshow.wordpress.com

You will need to enter the new name and category in the same places that you entered the current ones. However you need to check whether this will affect the feed URL: some services incorporate the title into the feed URL so changing the title would change that and iTunes would lose contact with the feed. If the feed URL doesn't contain the title you should be good to go. Exepct the Store to take a couple of days or so to update.

How to find out where my itunes is authorized and how to delete one of them

I am trying to put music onto my previously bought iPhone but my itunes says that I have 5 computers already in use with my apple id. In order to get my iphone to do the same as my ipod I need to deauthorize one of those "authorized" places of my supposid other itunes. I need to know if there is any way that I can deactivate one from my itunes now because I do not know where I had used the other itunes.

After update, Podcast Title and Description takes over the entire screen

Can't they set the app to cut off after a certain amount of characters like the old app was?

I presume you are runnning iTunes on either an OS X 10.7 or OS X 10.8 system. Move the cursor to the very top of the screen so that the menu bar appears, then click the blue box with the arrows at the very right corner of the menu bar, or press Shift-Command-F. That will switch iTunes back to a normal window, which it should then remember for future launches.

I got accepted to ITunes Store for my new Podcast. But, i would like to change a few things before I start to advertise.
I would love to trim the title, the artist is something that needs some adjusting, and so does the description. How do i log in to change any existing info?

If you're using iWeb to publish your podcast to iTunes, simply go to the webpage that you have the feed as, go to the inspector panel and click on the RSS tab, then podcast. There, you should be able to edit podcast author and several other info tags through your podcast.
Publish after you make the changes and then use this link, just insert your podcast ID number as provided by iTunes:

Clicking that link will update your feed with the store. You should see the changes immediately if not within the next couple hours.

Time and description missing

I've been posting podcasts for a while now successfully, and all of the sudden, the time and description of my podcasts will not display. can you please explain why? this is the code that displays:

I checked further into the specs and the absence of the hours isn't significant.
When subscribing, everything appears correctly. Your feed is lacking the 'itunes:subtitle' and 'itunes:summary' tags which should contain the descriptions and info: iTunes is managing to draw the information from the 'title' and 'description' tags in each episode.
However in the Store page, only episode 9 shows a duration and a description: I can't see any reason why this should be as the code isn't any different from the other episodes. Have you modified the feed coding recently (this seems doubtful for over 300 episodes) - the Store could just not have updated. Otherwise I can see no reason for this, though you might want to start using the itunes tags I mentioned. This page gives a basic sample feed so you can see what I'm talking about:

Podcast removed and cant resubmit

Not sure exactly why but my podcast has been removed which is saying "as a result of technical problems with the feed.". It worked just fine before and showed both episodes. Now if i go directly to the link, only one episode shows even though both are in the xml file.
Following my subscribe link (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=341061397) tells me it's not available for US stores. Why all of a sudden? The feed url was going directly to http://www.nightlifevibe.com/podcast/podcast.xml . Now I'm trying Feedburner URL but if I submit it, it tells me it was already submitted yet it's nowhere to be found in the itunes store.
All I want to do now is get my podcast up on itunes store again with URL of http://feeds.feedburner.com/NightlifeVibeHouseMusicPodcast showing BOTH episodes that I have in my xml file. Not sure why suddenly the 2nd episode isn't working anymore.

The description tag for episode 2 of this feed reads:

You have an ampersand ('&') in this - that renders the entire feed unreadable since it is used to open a code and there is no closing symbol. Therefore everything which follows it is unreadable, including the closing main tags, and that invalidates those tags and thus the entire feed. You need to replace the ampersand with the code for it:

This feed contains the same error. When you view it in a browser it displays the first episode but the second episode doesn't display becaue of this: and it won't work at all in iTunes.

Any free video hosting services meant for iTunes podcasts? I have found free audio hosting ones for iTunes podcasts, but are there any videos ones? THANKS!

The best I found was after searching YouTube for, how to prepare a video podcast to submit to iTunes Directory.
Several instructional videos come up that are worth watching. The two I initially found are recommended are podbean.com and podomatic.com.
I tried podbean.com, which easily generated the RSS feed iTunes requires, which I was able to successfully copy into the iTunes store line on Submit a Podcast to the iTunes Directory. Podbean has many helpful instructions on how to use their site and submit your video to iTunes.
Since I wasted 3 weeks trying to understand https://discussions.apple.com/message/23110806#23110806, other apple.com insructions, searching the internet, calling senior advisors in Apple Care (none of whom knew or could read this apple.com page either) I was really happy just to find one way to be able to do it. And easily too.
The only way you can possibly get an answer from Apple is to email [email protected], the iTunes Store says, since there is no phone support. Then I was told to wait 10 working days for a reply.
Thank goodness I finally searched YouTube. (There were many other confusing and difficult instructions on the internet.)
After uploading small video files onto my new site at podbean.com, at least I got 3 short videos onto iTunes that show in my computer's iTunes podcast subscriptions and they downloaded successfully. I understand I must wait a few days to get an ID from iTunes directory, which will then list my videos to the pubic as available in ITunes.
Podbean.com does have up to 100 mb free web hosting. (No video can bemore than 30 mb.) But it does allow everything iTunes needs, including a cover photo and description. All future feeds will be automatiically seen by iTunes through the podbean url that was given you, that you pasted into iTunes when you first submitted your podcast. So you only have to do this once, I understand.
Podbean wants to entice you to purchase more space so they show various prices.
I'm still wondering if somehow I could link my existing youtube videos (or facebook, myspace, vimeo, Flickr duplicates) in a field somewhere and link to them. Maybe?
Now that I know to use a web host that generates all the xml and RSS feed behind the scenes (since I don't know how) I'll explore these options, and the other site, podomatic.com.
Let us know if there are other good, free ones for video.
(One YouTube video said mypodcast.com is good for mp3 audio podcasts, FYI.)

Add unique title and description to other Blog pages

Hi,
There's a few pages that I cannot work out how to add a unique title and description tag within the Blog.
These are:
The page numbers - in the footer of the Blog if you click page 2, 3, 4, etc
eg: http://www.cardiotech.com.au/_blog/Latest_Fitness_News/page/4/
The Tags pages - if you click a tag and you're then presented with a list of articles for that tag it still displays the default Blog title
eg: http://www.cardiotech.com.au/_blog/Latest_Fitness_News/tag/Exercise/
The Archives pages - if you click on a month under Archives and it displays all the articles for that month it displays the default Blog title
I just need to know where this template is or even if there is one?

You can not edit/add unique titles for these.
As a note I can see you still have _blog - You can enable the proper SEO Custom url now and it probably says so in a yellow box on the detail part of the blog.

Criteria for showing up on front page of iTunes podcast

I'm curious as to how the podcasts are selected on the front door of the iTunes podcast area and how i can get a new podcast put in the cue for consideration here - it's the Space.com podcast (search space.com).

I would suggest listing with ever podcast directory you can find, most of witch may already have a listing for you, A lot of this is popularity and how many people are actually subscribing with your podcast with iTunes over another podcast directory.
I personal have had better successes being a feature podcast on other directories because of my content is something that oringal for that directory and that I update often. With being a hidden podcast with in iTunes that is there to be discovered when browsing directories, the overall subscription in iTunes is not bad. But not close to what other directory services point to the feed.
You may also want to try an advertising swap with other podcasts, or swap web badges. Their is a whole marketing plan that needs to be look at, to drive people the listen or watch your content. Just like that of radio and TV stations do for their shows. If your podcast is a certain genre (example say Home improvement, then advertise and get the word out on web sites that are about home improvement.) Also look at adding mainstream advertising to podcasts to generate revenue so you can return put out advertisement for your podcast.
I also noticed a few PR firms for podcasts : most of their clients are listed as top downloaded podcasts. I say it all about marketing in some way to what ever your budget maybe. This with keeping a great show people will want to come back to. I work in advertising and this is true for any product sold today. Just look at the Apple brand itself. Apple makes a large marketing campaign, why has not all windows user switched yet? (Apple is a hands down better product) This is the same with podcasts to toasters. You have to sell it, and keep selling while coming out with some better each time, if you what that kind of audience.
I seen some great stuff with podcasts most of witch is a one person operation, just keep plugging along, Sooner or later you may get your break.

Although all information is available - the itunes store does not mention the author and "album artwork" of my podcast - if podcast is downloaded, album artwork is shown...
How can I add the informatin (especially that author is not "unknown" anymore)

This is not a valid podcast feed for iTunes. It's missing the 'itunes declaration' in the second line. The top two lines of your feed should read as follows:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<rss xmlns:itunes="http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd" version="2.0">
Without that, iTunes cannot read the 'itunes' tags which are necessary to carry some of the information, and which in any case are missing from your feed. The author name is carried in the 'itunes:author' tag and the image in the 'itunes:image' tag.
This page contains a basic sample feed so you can see what it should look like and how these tags are formed:

If you are hand-writing this feed it's a good idea to put returns in after each closing tag, as in the sample. At the moment most of your feed is on one line and this makes it very difficult to read when looking for problems, particularly as you add more episodes.

Having trouble with itunes:author and author tags in rss

Hello. I have written my own rss sheet and everything is working fine, except I cannot get the artist to show up on iTunes.
I am using these tags:

and I cannot edit the artist information. Everything else works fine. Here is my rss sheet if anyone wants to look. Any ideas?

Currently, it is not in the iTunes music store as I want to get it up and running first before posting it public as this will represent my church organization. But, you can subscribe to the Podcast manually via going to the menu bar in iTunes.

The Podcast works just fine with the exception of the <author></author> and <itunes:author></itunes:author> tags and I can't figure out why. I've looked at the code and everything seems fine, but I still can't get those tags to work. Any suggestions?

How to change the author and "podcast website," in iTunes store?

my itunes store page is http://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-fallacy-a-day-podcast/id469610386 and my podcast is hosted on a free account at Podomatic.
It seems that the information on that page is drawn from the data on my Podomatic feed, including the "iTunes" page in my Podomatic account. All I ever did on iTunes is to go into the store section of iTunes and submit the rss URL.
I've read the FAQ but can't see how to change these features of my iTunes store page:
1. On my itunes store page the title is: "The Fallacy-a-Day Podcast By The Fallacy-a-Day Podcast" but I would rather it be "The Fallacy-a-Day Podcast by fallacaday.com"
2. Also on that page, under "Links" on the right, if you click Podcast website it takes you to fallacyaday.podomatic.com but I would prefer that iTunes store visitors are directed to my podcast's home page at fallacyaday.com.
As it stands, my homepage is being completely bypassed by some downloaders (although I do mention it in the podcast episodes themselves) and I have no metric on how many people are downloading the podcast. My Google Analytics indicate a constant number of visitors each day while the Podomatic bandwidth usage is increasing. I have no idea of what proportion of downloaders are doing so on Podomatic vs iTunes. Podomatic's own statistics (for the free account) are almost totally useless because they oscillate wildly from one day to the next.

Everything in the iTunes Store about your podcast is carried in the feed: the title is in the 'title' tag and the link in the 'link' tag. Although I'm not familiar with Podomatic my understanding is that you don't have access to the feed yourself, but have to set the details within Podomatic.
It should be easy enough to change the title by changing it wherever you originally set it. As to the link, I've seen others complaining that it directs to the podomatic site and can't be changed. Obviously they want to attract attention to their own service. I imagine this can't be changed but it's something you would need to take up with Podomatic.
Even if you had the correct link most visitors probably won't bother with it. If they are interested they will subscribe to your podcast in iTunes and listen to the episodes there - there's no reason to go to the site. iTunes does not provide usage statistics, and visits to your website aren't really relevant.
I'm afraid that the problem with all these online services is that they are what they are - they make it easy to get a podcast up and running but the facilities they provide may not always be exactly want you want and can't be changed.
