ITunes quits when adding to library

I have a MacBook and am running iTunes 7.6.2. I have a smaller library already on my MacBook, consisting of about 6 gigs of music. I am trying to import my larger library from my PC, consisting of about 31 gigs of music, onto the MacBook. I can't simply replace the library, because the MacBook has some songs that aren't on the PC. I use iTunes to automatically sort my playlists.
After transferring the music files to the MacBook, I selected "Add to Library" and selected the music. iTunes started to re-copy the files into the Library already there, after which I would just delete the originals that I transferred over. Unfortunately, every time I attempt to do this, iTunes just quits unexpectedly during the process. I've tried all the usual tricks, including deleting the library file, the com.apple.Itunes.plist file, the XML file, and starting over. If I attempt to use iTunes after attempting to import the music, it acts unstable and randomly quits. The only way I can restore it is to use Time Machine to restore back to the old, smaller 6 gig library.
I have the crash report from one of the attempts, although it's different each time. Here's the crashed thread:

Any insight into how I can successfully consolidate my two libraries would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

Hold down the option key while starting iTunes and make an new library.  Will it open then? If so, you have a bad library.  With the new library import the library.xml version of the file in your iTunes folder.  This will make it 90% like before (some metadata are not identical, but I don't know which ones).

  • IMovie quits when adding titles

iMovie (9.0.8) quits when adding titles (and sometimes just randomly although it seems to be related to adding titles).
I have repaired permissions and deleted com.apple.iMovieApp.plist from library to no avail.
It is not related to a corrupt project as it happens to all my current projects.

    Hi
I doubt - BUG - I guess corrupted iMovie pref file (to get this You only need to Force/Panic Halt the program and errors are entered in it)
    See if this helps
When iMovie doesn't work as intended this can be due to a lot of reasons
    • iMovie Pref files got corrupted - trash it/they and iMovie makes new and error free one's
    • Creating a new User-Account and log into this - forces iMovie to create all pref. files new and error free
    • Event or Project got corrupted - try to make a copy and repair
    • a codec is used that doesn't work
    • problem in iMovie Cache folder - trash Cache.mov and Cache.plist
    • version miss match of QuickTime Player / iMovie / iDVD
    • preferences are wrong - Repair Preferences
    • other hard disk problem - Repair Hard Disk (Disk Util tool - but start Mac from ext HD or DVD)
    • External hard disks - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work with Video
( UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most other things - but not for Video )
    • USB-flash-memories do not work
    • Net-work connected hard disks - do not work
    • iPhoto Library got problems - let iPhoto select another one or repair it. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
    This You do by
    _ close iPhoto
    _ on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
_ now select all five options presented
_ WAIT a long long time
    • free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk to low (<1Gb) - I never go under 25Gb free space for SD-Video (4-5 times more for HD)
    • external devices interferes - turn off Mac - disconnect all of them and - Start up again and re-try
    • GarageBand fix - start GB - play a few notes - Close it again and now try iMovie
    • Screen must be set to million-colors
    • Third-party plug-ins doesn't work OK
    • Run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac
    • Let Your Mac be turned on during one night. At about midnight there is a set of maintenance programs that runs and tidying up. This might help
    • Turn off Your Mac - and disconnect Mains - for about 20-30 minutes - at least this resets the FireWire port.
    • In QuickTime - DivX, 3ivx codec, Flip4Mac, Perian etc - might be problematic - temporarily move them out and re-try
(I deleted the file "3ivxVideoCodec.component" located in Mac HD/Library/Quicktime and this resolved my issue.)
    buenrodri wrote
I solved the problem by removing the file: 3ivxVideoCodec.component. after that, up-dated iMovie runs ok.
Last resort: Trash all of iMovie and re-install it

  • ITunes 6.1 crashes when adding to Library

iTunes crashed every time I try to add certain songs, but not other ones. So, I tried reformatting the songs, but still it crashes. It crashes too much. I tried updating from 4.something that was on another hard drive that I booted with and that started crashing right away before I can select anything. I've been repairing the hard drives lately. But, this version is getting trippy like some of the last few. My playlists all disapeared after the updates. I don't like that at all. Is there some way to save playlists. I used to save them by transferring something in the iTunes folder to another drive for backup, but there should be another way, isn't there? What coud be the possible diagnosis for this?

    ZenQen hello,
I should have explained myself better I meant to say that most of it will become obvious as you perform the tasks ahead... a full run-down would take awhile.
Okay that said ... you have a file corruption that is causing the files to be read incorrectly and there is not enough room on the #2 HD for the Mac OS X to operate as it was designed and will be part of your problem... do this
move all the data files that you do not have a backup copy from HD#2 and put them on HD#1 ... do not worry about Applications or System software as they are best put back fresh later.
Put the original Panther install disk in the drive and shutdown..
Restart computer holding down the 'c' key until the spinning gear is seen.
At the installer level do not continue... select the Disk Utility from the top menu and open it.
Choose the HD#2 and reformat it ... choose the option of writing Zeroes to the HD (7 times will do )
When complete install Panther10.3.x and then run this Mac OS X Combo Update 10.3.9...
Now start using HD#1 as the boot drive and run the same combo update on the system there ... check HD repairs and Permissions before running the Combo and afterwards as well (see below)
Check that your HD is in order with 'Disk Utility' ...
Run repair HD from original CD or DVD install disk...
insert disk and re-start holding down the 'c' key until you see the spinning gear.
At installer level do not continue...
Use top left menu and go 'Disk Uitility' (Utilities menu Tiger)
select your HD volume with Operating system on...
select 1st aid... select repair Hard Disk.
if errors are repaired run again until none are reported then verify your HD.
quit and return to the Finder
Check the pemissions are set correct on the Apple installed software...
use 'Disk Utility' from Applications > Utilities > select HD... select 1st aid. repair permissions... if repairs are needed run again until none are repaired... do not worry about messages 'we are using special permissions etc... they are OK Quit when finished.
Come back and tell me the results when you try out iTunes.
Tip: do not add any other software except Apple until all tested and checked out OK
take care ZenQen ... good luck ... TP

  • ITunes quits when I see the "terms of service changes" screen

I recently added two music files to my cart at the iTunes music store. When I tried to purchase them, I clicked on "Buy Now" at the cart screen. After a few seconds, iTunes presented me with a screen which detailed new changes in the terms of service. I have never been able to fully read through this information, however, because iTunes quits less than three seconds after I see this "changes" screen. I cannot go further; I cannot purchase music. Switching to One-Click payments is not effective--I still have to see the screen to go further, and then the program quits. I have the most recent version of iTunes. I have completed all my software updates.
I have seen a few other people on this forum with similar problems, and they apparently have yet to find a solution. The following is the error log information in its entirety. I copied it down when I clicked on the option to send an error report to Apple.
Perhaps a knowledgeable user can decipher this code and tell me what is wrong, so that I can fix it.

Yoono. I uninstalled Yoono and the problem went away. However, it does seem like a nice application since it brings all your social networks together in a column on the left side of the screen that are active while you can be doing something else like searching the web or reading your e-mail. When I'm in e-mail however, I want a fuller screen and when I try to collapse the Yoono column, I get that warning message and it won't allow me to.

  • Itunes freezes when adding media to Iphone

I have just updated to Itunes 10.2.2.14 on Windows XP, I also have never synced my Iphone 3g to itunes, but when attempting to add any media to the iphone, the progress bar stops halfway on the first song, the arrows remain spinning but nothing happens, until about 20 minutes later it says there was an error and the media could not be copied, how can i fix this?

    Jeremy,
Thank You for the reply but my issue was not in the attachment you sent.
iTunes freezes when I attempt to add music to my ipod classic especially playlists I have made.
iTunes recognizes my ipod but when I "add" that when the issue starts.
I have my large library on a pc using windows 7. I have no issue adding music to my device on
my macbook pro but like I said, my 60,000 song plus library is on my pc.
Any additional help would be greatly appreciated.
    Happy Holidays,
    JJ

  • ITunes quitting when I try to update iPod

Hi! First post here ever. Been a Mac user for about 4 years.
I own an 5th Gen iPod Video of 30 GB. I'm getting around iTunes 7 and even though there are things I'm still getting used to; this is close to freaking me out.
I installed iTunes 7.0.1. When I connect the iPod, iTunes asks me if I want to download the new software available for my iPod. When I say to download and install and it connects me to the iPod update server, the screen says that iTunes is downloading the new software. Right then iTunes quits. I tried to just download the software, it quit. Then tried to cancel, and it also quitted. I didn't get any "iTunes quit unexpectedly" pop up window.
Nothing happens. Basically, I can't use iTunes when the iPod is connected and I can't get the new software for my iPod. On top of that, the iPod is not on the desktop.
I think my immediate response will be to return to the iTunes version that came with my iPod. But I'd like to get around this problem, so please, any help would be much appreciated.

  • ITunes quits when I refresh podcasts with iPod touch connected

If I click the "refresh podcast" button in iTunes (version 11.3.1.2) while my iPod touch (32G capacity currently with 4.5G available; still running iOS 5.1.1) is connected, iTunes quits. If the iPod is not connected, the refresh runs just fine; any available podcasts are downloaded. I'm running iTunes on Windows 7 with all the latest security updates. This issue first occurred August 16, 2014.

  • ITunes quits when I try to watch downloaded TV shows

My iTunes quits each time I try to play any episode of the TV shows I've downloaded. I've rebuilt disk permissions, restarted my computer, deleted the shows and re-downloaded them - done the basic tricks that usually solve the issues my computer is confronted with. I purchased my MacBook Pro from Apple in August 2012, and haven't had any problems of this nature until today. It's not refurbished or pre-owned. I've been able to watch these shows before, and it's only today that they suddenly force quit - and, when I scroll in iTunes, there's a distortion midway down the screen. I downloaded a software update today, and I'm wondering if that could be the cause of these issues, although it wasn't an iTunes update. I'm baffled, and since I'm currently in a small European town (sans Apple store) I'm loath to use my precious phone minutes to call Apple. I wondered whether any of you have had similar problems, or tips for procedures I ought to try.
    Thanks!
    -Rose

Update: I opened iTunes in Safe mode and got this message: "This movie requires QuickTime, which is not supported by this version of iTunes." I've searched past forums and have tried to open iTunes in 32-bit mode, but it still crashes when I try to play a show.

  • FCPX(10.1.1) quits when I load library

Every time I try to load a library FCPX quits. It's just this one. I have it on an external drive. Have tried moving the library do another drive, but same problem there.
It quits when it's loading curves(Natress).
Have downloaded Event Manager X, but when I open it it's empty. It doesn't show any files.
I guess I have some corrupted files, but don't now how to find it.
    Have Mavericks.

The question I would have is what's in the library? If you right click and choose Show Package Contents, you can see what events folders are inside…and what clips (or links to clips) are there. Anything unusual about  that media?

  • ITunes Quits When Trying To Launch It

I have a stock iMac (white plastic just before aluminum model) running Mac OS 10.5.6.
iTunes 8.1.1 has become corrupted. I deleted it, and downloaded and installed a new version from the Apple website. I've done this repeatedly!
Every time I try to launch iTunes, I get an error message as follows:
    "The application iTunes quit unexpectedly.
Mac OS and other applications are not affected. Click RELAUNCH to launch the application again. Click REPORT to see more details or to send a report to Apple."
All of this does nothing to solve my problem. I need iTunes for - among other things - working with my iPod which is under APPLECARE.
    Help.
    jonnieg

    Try moving:

to the desktop and restart your computer. This file saves the settings for that service and may be come corrupt. Removing it from the Preferences folder will result in a new file being created with default settings. If this helps you can trash the file but you may need to reset other things covered by that preference. If it doesn't help you can replace the newly created file with the old one and restart to regain the old settings.

  • ITunes quits when skipping to a new track (playing cd)

When I play a cd on my iMac, each time a song is finished instead of automatically going to the next song, iTunes closes and I get an error message saying that 'iTunes quit unexpectedly while using the AudioScrobbler plugin'.  The error box says that a report will be sent to Apple automatically.  Any ideas what's happening here?  It happens with every cd I try to play.  I could just download the cds into iTunes and that would solve the problem, I know...

you're right.  just after i posted, i realized that the error message went on to say something about the last.fm software i was using.  i deleted it and now, no errors.  thanks!

  • ITunes quits when I connect iPhone to computer

I just installed iTunes upgrade 8.0.2 on my iBook G4. iTunes opens when I click on it and and appears to operate okay. No crash. But when I connect my iPhone, iPhoto launches and iTunes unexpectedly quits. Every time. I cannot start iTunes, either, with the phone connected to the computer. This has never happened before, just started when I upgraded to 8.0.2. I have not upgraded my iPhone yet (because iTunes won't launch with it). My iPhone version is 2.1 Your help would be so appreciated!

I'm having the same problem. I've tried reinstalling itunes, repairing drive permissions, etc. No improvement. Our ipod touch with v2.1 works fine, it seems to be isolated to the v2.2 upgrade I perfromed on my iphone. I'm running itunes 8.0.2. Help?
