ITunes won't let me watch rented movies!

I have Mac OS X 10.5.8, iTunes 10.6.3, Quicktime 7.5.5. iTunes message says I can't watch rented movies and recommended another QT version that I can't remember. What should I do? Note: in Systems Profiler, I have QT 7.5.5 in Apps and in Frameworks.

Apparently a lot of people have reading comprehension issues.  I have the same problem as op except I use first generation appleTV.  So for you slow people let me spell it out.
If you are trying to purchase movies on iTunes (this is the important part so pay attention) running on a computer that does not support HD you are NOT able to purchase HD movies.  The message that pops up says you cannot purchase HD movies on a computer that does not support HD.
The question the OP was asking and I have this question also is why does it matter if the computer I am buying the movie on supports HD when the intent is not to play the movie on the computer in the first place.  AppleTV does support HD and streams from itunes on the computer.

  • ITunes won't let me watch a Movie

I have downloaded The Dark Night from iTunes but when I attempt to play it it reads "Need you authorize computer first before viewing". I put my password in but says I have already been authorized but still asked me to authorize. Very Frusturating!!
    Please Help
    Thanks!

Security code in iTunes or on AppleTV 2?
Making rentals/purchases from new devices forces you to verify security details in iTunes.  I can't remember if I could enter the 3 digit security code on AppleTV2 direct but i had to do it with AppleTv 1 via itunes the other day.
I could not get it to accept my changes until i relaised it wanted me to enter my 'title' which had previously been set - for some reason it wasn't now and I put something else in and it still worked!

  • HDMC restrictions won't let me watch a movie shared on my friend's iTunes computer, even though we are on the same network, and have home-sharing on.

Basically, my friend turned on home-sharing, I can see his movies, but when I try to watch one on my computer through iTunes, I get an HDMC restriction of some kind, and I am repeatedly ask to sign into my iTunes account to authorize my computer (which is already authorized). It isn't making any sense to me.
    (I am using OS X 10.8.4).

I have found with AppleTV that it is the IPV6 on the computer you want to access is the problem.  The issue is that Homegroup on Win 7 or Win 8 requires IPV6 to work, but AppleTV won't work with IPV6.  (So maybe double check you have IPV6 turned off)
So you have to make a choice - Homegroup or AppleTV.... but you can't have both, until Apple brings ATV up to date. (crazy that it does not recognise IPV6 - c'mon Apple!)
You can set up sharing individually in Win 7 or 8 and have the ATV access files that way.
Having said that, there is always the exception.. I have an old HP home server running Win8 and it services ATV - but is part of the Homegroup... have no idea why it works on both, but no other machine on the home network will talk to both ATV and Homegroup at the same time!

  • Apple TV security Code/Itunes store issue won't let me watch a movie

When I enter my security code after selecting a movie, I always go back to the first page, it won't allow me to watch it. I made sure that all the info in iTunes are updated. Does anyone has the same problem and have been able to fix it?
    Thank you,

  • Apple tv won't let me watch a movie i rented! it was loading but now it no longer shows up.

It was loading but is no longer doing so. i have checked for rentals and nothing is showing up. when i go back and try and rent the mvie again, it tells me it has been rented and just needs to download

Welcome to the Apple community Chris.
A number of people have reported similar issues recently, many appear to have found a discrepancy of some kind in their account settings and making changes to these settings or simply resetting them has resolved the matter.
Check your account details are correct, check that you are using the correct details for Location, Region and Time Zone. You may want to change these settings and then change them back to see if that helps.
You might also try logging out of and then back into your iTunes account (Settings > iTunes Store > Apple ID’s > Sign Out) and restarting your router. (Some have reported that after doing this, they need to check for rentals even though it may report that there aren’t any, after which rentals once again appear in the ‘movies’ feature)
Rentals should appear under their own heading in the ‘Movies’ feature, you might also check at Settings > iTunes Store > Check For Rentals.

  • TS1424 iTunes won't let me redeem a movie.

It keeps asking me to choose 3 security questions and answers. I can only add one security question on my account from what I can tell. This is the first time it has ever done this and I have redeemed a few other movies in the past with no problem. Anyone know how to fix this or has anyone else encountered this issue?

An account can have three questions on it : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5665
If you can’t set them, you don't know their current answers, and the above link doesn't let you reset them then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple in your country to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use the steps half-way down this page to add a rescue email address for potential future use : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312

  • ITunes won't let me redownload a movie.

I recently got a new computer and I restored my iPod but did not back it up because I didn't think there was anything important on it. There was a movie that was on it and I want to get it back but when I go to buy it in the iTunes store it brings me to the downloads section because I have already purchased the movie once before but I don't see the movie in the list.

You only get one download ( sam policy as Wal-Mart and Amazon). It is your responsibility to copy and/or move it wherever you want it.
From the itunes store terms of service:
"PRODUCTS CAN BE DOWNLOADED ONLY ONCE; AFTER BEING DOWNLOADED, THEY CANNOT BE REPLACED IF LOST FOR ANY REASON. YOU SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR BACKING UP YOUR OWN SYSTEM, INCLUDING ANY PRODUCTS PURCHASED OR RENTED FROM THE ITUNES STORE THAT ARE STORED IN YOUR SYSTEM."
Where is your backup copy of all of your important info/music/pics/docs/files/etc.? Use this to put the movie back.
If for some reason you have failed to do this ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod: File>Transfer Purchases

  • ITunes won't let me watch videos.

I have imported a film, from disk, on to my Mac. It says that it is an MPEG4 and the file extension is .mp4. However, when I try and drag it into iTunes, nothing happens and the videos I already had on there won't play. I recently upgraded to a newer version of iTunes, and this is when I realised that videos won't play. Is there anything I can do?

You should be able to watch it on your iPhone or in iTunes on your computer.

  • ITunes message says I can't watch rented movies!

I have Mac OS X 10.5.8, iTunes 10.6.3, Quicktime 7.5.5. iTunes message says I can't watch rented movies & that I need another QT version that I couldn't remember. What should I do? Note, in System Profiler, I have QT 7.5.5 in Apps and in Frameworks.

For now, this is correct. There will be an update to the Apple TV within the next week which will allow it to play rented content as well as rent it natively.

  • Trying to watch rented movie on my PC, locks up ITunes

Just downloaded the lastest version of iTunes and downloaded a rental movie. Now iTunes locks up and the movie won't start. Tried uploading to my iPod but iTunes won't let me. So what do I do now?? I have less than 24 hours before it expires!
    Somebody please advise

Was the video rental HD or Standard definition? Did you pay $3.99 or $2.99 of it?

As long as the films have been fully downloaded then you should be able to watch them without an internet connection.

  • HT1390 Unable to watched rented movie on ATV2

Last night we wanted to watch a movie on our ATV2 so on my Mac I went into iTunes and rented a HD movie. I let the download start and went off to prepare dinner. When I came back to my Mac a hour later there was an error message on the screen saying there was an error connecting to the store so I reinitiated the download. A few minutes later I got a message saying that the movie was ready for viewing, would i like to watch it now or later. I selected later and left it to continue the download.
In the end we did not end up watching the movie last night, but now I want to watch it. On my ATV2 I went into my library. The Rentals option appeared in the menu and, for some reason, the movie I rented is in the list of rentals twice. When I selected either of the movies to watch I got an error saying that the movie is currently being watched on another device and to stop it running on that device before trying again.
The movie was not being watched anywhere else. How do I tell iTunes this? Why won't it let me watch the movie on the ATV2 if I purchased on my Mac?
I tried rebooting both the ATV2 and Mac. I then deleted both copies of rental from iTunes. One of them I had issues deleting from trash, saying it was being used. I then restarted downloading the rental again and again said I would watch later when prompted. Now the Rentals option does not even appear on my ATV2 when I go to my library on my computer.
I could not find anywhere in the support material if it was actually possible to rent a movie from iTunes on Mac and then view on ATV2. Should it be possible? I did find a support note that said that any movie rented from an ATV2 could only be viewed on that device.
Any clues to fix this problem. I tried calling Apple support but they don't work weekends.

Further investigation revealed that I was unable to watch the movie anywhere. I kept getting iTunes Error 42110 when it tried to authenticate.
After searching through iTunes support material I found the solution, which was to remove the 'SC Info' folder from /Users/Shared. After I deleted this folder everything started working again.

Did you figure this out?  I haven't rented a movie in this new iTunes yet and saw one tonight I wanted to rent.  Same fricken thing is happening to me.  I hate this new iTunes, and I really hate that there are problems like this....why the heck do they have to fix something that isn't broken and break it?  This just really stinks.
