Iweb and Circus Ponies Notebook software

Has anyone tried to integrate a Circus Ponies Notebook page(s) into their iweb site? If so how does it look and did it work online? I am curious before a possible purchase of Notebook. Thanks for any input.
imac 1.25 ghz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

http://www.circusponies.com/store/index.php?main_page=notebook&sub=publish
Looks like you can export as html. So you could add it to an iWeb page via an iframe.
Make a text box the size of however big you want the notebok text box to be in iWeb, type in something like "NOTEBOOKPAGE"
Publish your site. I am going to assume you publish to .Mac. If not, post back and I will edit.
Put your notebook published html pages in the top level "Sites" folder of your iDisk.
Now you will edit the published iWeb page.
You can open the html files generated by iWeb in any text or html editor. In TextEdit, to view the code in an HTML file, choose File > Open and select "Ignore rich text commands." Then locate the .html file and click Open.
Go to iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/Sitename/Nameofpageyouwanttohavetheframe.html
Find NOTEBOOKCODE
Replace it with
<iframe src="http://homepage.mac.com/yourusername/nameofnotebookfolder/pagename.html" width="x" height="y" scrolling="yes" border="0" style="border:none;" frameborder="0"></iframe>
Where x and y are the dimensions of the text box you put in iWeb.

  • Issue with Automator and Circus Ponies Notebooks

I have not found an Automator specific discussion, so let me know if there is somewhere else I should post this.
I have created a limited backup program with Automator. It begins with "Get Specified Finder Items". The second step is "Copy Finder Items". I kept getting messages that it could not backup various Notebooks because it couldn't copy certain Notebook files. The issues were always with something in a Notebook .../Attachments/ that ended with the extension .moddates.
Using PathFinder 5, I would right click and select Show Package Contents. I found numerous "contents.old.plist" files in these Notebooks which I deleted. I would try again and it would be another issue, but always with a Notebook file. In some other cases I found things in the attachments folder which I deleted, one of which was a .jpg of a screenshot of a a 'page' in Things. Two others were .eml files.
I thought these actions would correct the issue, but now it seems that there is no end to this issue. Using PathFinder 5, show invisibles, and show package contents I see a .moddates file, but do not want to delete it.
My next attempt at resolving this was to used PathFinder to just copy the Notebook directory directly to my Flash Drive which is formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) or HFS+. There was no problem copying the files this way, so I am wondering if the problem could be with Automator.

The way that you are getting the value of the variables will only work in an Automator workflow, since that terminology is from Automator's scripting dictionary. If the workflow is saved as an application or is otherwise run outside of the Automator environment (i.e. no workflow window), another method will need to be used to retrieve the variables, such as preceding *Get Value of Variable* actions, a temporary file, or user defaults.
If you aren't using any other input items, for example, you can use something like:
    1) *Get Value of Variable* { Variable: ProjectName } (Ignore Input)
    2) *Get Value of Variable* { Variable: ProjectManager }
    3) *Get Value of Variable* { Variable: RegionManager }
    4) *Get Value of Variable* { Variable: Partner }
    5) *Get Value of Variable* { Variable: TodayDate }
    6) *Run AppleScript*:

    color: #000000;

title="this text can be pasted into an Automator 'Run AppleScript' action">
    on run {input, parameters}

set ProjectManager to second item of the input
set RegionManager to third item of the input

  • Iweb and Reunion 8 genealogy software

How can I incorporate Web cards from Leister Production's Reunion software for MACOS X 8.05 as an external link,hyper-link into my iWeb site?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   3GB DDR SDRAM

In this day-and-age, I'm not so sure how wise it is to post that kind of personal data on the net for all to see (especially identity thieves!) Do you have that password protected so only those who you want to see it, will?
However, if you do want everyone to be able to access that info, you could link to it from iWeb and keep it on your "charter.net" server.
You could also manually put it into your .Mac account and link to it there.
I don't think you are able to somehow import it into iWeb on your computer - it only deals with iWeb pages.

  • I'm a Dropbox user and I migrate between my iMac and a Toshiba notebook.  Is there Apple software that will work on the notebook allowing me to open Pages, Numbers or Keynote documents that I've placed in Dropbox?

I'm a Dropbox user and I migrate between my iMac and a Toshiba notebook.  Anyone know if there is Apple software that will work on the Toshiba that will allow me to open Pages, Numbers or Keynote documents when I access them in Dropbox?
Maybe I should just always export from Pages into Word  (and likewise for the other types) before I upload to Dropbox?  I hope not!!

If you don't want to export files and consider the Microsoft formats to be your basic working format, then you need to consider either using MsOffice for Mac or LibreOffice instead of the iWork suite.
You could always run a virtualised OSX on the Toshiba, but I don't think Apple will appreciate me telling you how to do that.

  • Since my school upgraded the Windows server and various bits of software with it, our department has been unable to contact MobileMe, publish iWeb, or contact various other IP's. This seems like a firewall. We have Xserve to Windows server to internet.

Our technicians can't resolove this problem, and our iWeb sites are teacing sites - causing us huge problems because we cannot publish conventionally.
    The routeing is laptop/wireless/Xserve/Apache/internet.
    Any advice gratefully received.

If anyone is following this and not become bored, and if anyone else has the same problem -
What I have done is as follows: 1. Signed out of my account. 2. Deleted the cache.db from iWeb Cache (don't delete the folder) 3. Deleted the iWeb.plist 4. Cleared the trash and rebooted the machine 5. Signed into the account. 6. Booted the Domain.sites2 file.
Twice this worked and I made a connection and published. But once I closed iWeb, it refused connection again, and got into a loop as follows - boot Domain.sites2, go to Publish site changes, and it asks me to log in. Once logged in, it (iWeb) continues to ask to be logged in.
Next I removed the current Domain.sites2 files, cleared the trash, and reset as above. Then I booted iWeb and it came up with a clean start. Now it would publish without a problem.
I took the old domain to another machine on the same network and tried it, but it had the same problems as before.
I have brought the old domain home and it has published from my machine here without any problem at all. It just did it.
I think that I have shown that the fault is not in iWeb (tried different machines), not in cache or preferences (constantly cleared them out), not in the domain (works perfectly elsewhere).
Our technicians have suggested that it is that the new network system is incompatible with 10.5, and will work with 10.6 as they have tried it on one of their machines and it works. I have tried it on 10.6 on the same network and it doesn't work, so that is nonsense.
You may be able to sense some despair that we have technicians who blame operating systems and who are quite certain that Mac can't network properly. I used to have to work hard to get OS9 to network, but it did.
Any further support or answers gratefully received.

  • I am using a new imac with osx lion 10.7.5 and have bought a copy of Apple iLife 11 on dvd a so that I can install iWeb and idvd, when I click on install iLife I get a message saying "iLife.kpg was signed with an invalid certificate

I am using a new imac with osx lion 10.7.5 and have just bought Apple iLife 11 on dvd so that I can install iWeb and iDVD, as macs no longer ship with these apps. When I click on install iLife I get a message saying "iLife.kpg was signed with an invalid certificate.
Next problem is that when moving through the installer and get to custom install, as I only want to install iDVD and iWeb, I am presented with the option to install iDVD, Sounds & Jingles and iWeb, but not sure what is going on with the other 3 options iLife Support etc, they seem to be greyed out but still look like they may install over the top of the newer versions already on my imac. Is it ok for me to just go ahead and hit install? Or do I have a problem?

Yep, just install iDVD (plus sounds and jingles) and iWeb if you want it (but note that iWeb apparently won't work if you upgrade to Mountain Lion).
Then use Software Update to get any late iDVD updates.

  • My new computer does not have iWeb and I can't open the files from the old computer. What can I do???

I'm really desperate. I used to publish to a blog directly from iWeb, then I discontinued it. When I made the switch to iCloud, I wasn't worried because I knew my files would always be there. However, once I got a new computer, I transferred all the old files to an external hard drive and I thought everything would work just fine. Well, it didn't Neither can I open iWeb nor can I find my files.
    Can anyone help me please?

New Macs have not shipped with iWeb for over 2 years and Apple has not sold or supported iWeb for at least 2 years now - Apple stopped selling it and dropped support for it when MobileMe was ditched in favour of iCloud which does not offer hosting.
If you want iWeb, then you will need to have a look at your old installation CD's for your old Mac and see if iWeb is on these and you can then install it from there or if you don't have these CD's any longer, then you'll have no option but to purchase a copy of either iLife 09 or iLife 11 from Amazon - these boxed sets both contain iWeb 09, which is the latest version of iWeb.
Other than this and as you have not done your blog for sometime, perhaps you should consider re-creating it from scratch with a software that is actively supported and updated - that is NOT iWeb any longer.
You could try using WordPress, either .com or .org - .org is good if you already have hosting and you can install WordPress directly onto your server.  If you want something free, then you could use WordPress.com which is then published on the WordPress servers.
You could also take a look at EverWeb from Rage Software, which is very new and is very like iWeb with all the extras, such as drop down menus etc.  Take a look at http://www.everwebapp.com.
As for your files, it sounds that when you say files, these might be the published files for your site, if you went into iWeb and published them to a local folder?  This is not a backup and even if you could find these files, then iWeb will not be able to open them because it has no import facility, so cannot open an already published site - html and css files.
What you need is your domain.sites files which can be found under your User Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.
I would cut your losses and if you don't have iWeb, then don't bother paying for software that is now outdated and unsupported - move onto to something new and re-create everything in either WordPress or EverWeb.

  • IWeb and Club web site...access restricted to club members

I have just volunteered to 'think about' doing our local harley owners group website since the last webmaster has jacked it in.
The old site has gone and I will have to start from fresh. It will be hosted on a commercial local server with server space and domain name already registered.
I have seen reference to password protected areas of websites created using iWeb, and although possible it does not seem that iWeb is actually designed for the job. Also the threads i have seen do not seem to be referring to multiple usernames and pwds, stored in a database, but rather a single username/pwd
What the proposed new site needs is a public area, plus a private area with each member having access using there own Username and password. The Private area would need a Classified 'For sale ' area with members being to add and upload their own ads.
is this sort of thing possible from within iWeb or is it way outside its capabilities?
I thought it best to ask now...before I build the basic public site, and make a start on the private section...only to then find it is not possible
    Thanks
    Neil

Something exactly like that....fancy an unpaid job?
Guess I'll have to get to grips with the thing (iWeb) and see what I can do.
Before I ask any more questions, I'll have to have a play with it before asking such things as ....how did you do......
I made this one up using it a week or so ago...
    http://www.paisnel.co.uk/hog
My old ones from years back were done in ....who knows...some freeware Windows WYSIWYG editors
    http://old.paisnel.co.uk
and the later one just using the built in gallery software offered by the hosting site
    http://paisnel.co.uk
I never really did learn this 'black art' of html design. and have been trying to avoid doing so.

  • I tried to implement photo albums using iweb and got a publishing error.

I tried to implement photo albums using iweb and got a publishing error. All was fine with my site until I added the photo album page. The software doesnt say what the error is exactly, only that it is a publishing error to my ftp
Exact message "There was an error communicating with the FTP server. Try again later, or check with your service provider."
If I reduce the albums inside to 1 then it seems to work but that takes away from the usefullness of multiple albums.
my iWeb version is 3.0.4 (601)

Publish your site to a folder on your hard drive to see if the publication will proceed successfully and open the site locally with your browser to confirm all of the alums are there and work.  If they do try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
If you're still not able to publish from iWeb to your server download and use the free  Cyberduck to upload your website files to the server. Users have found that CD has been successful when iWeb had problems.

  • IWeb and new MacBook Pro

Just taken delivery of a new MBP - 13-inch, 2.8GHz, SSD - (jewel) - on 7th November - and I've noticed that iWeb isn't installed. I may not want to use iWeb to keep my web site updated, or build any new ones, but the Online Store info says iLife '11 is installed and also includes iWeb in iLife '11, though it's gone from the App Store. Anyone else found the same thing?

The page for the MacBook Pro states:
    "Included software
    OS X + iLife ’11
Every Mac comes with the world’s most advanced operating system, as well as iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand, so you can do more with your photos, movies and music."
and shows a picture of the box for iLife '11.
The page for iLife '11 states:
    "iWeb and iDVD
iLife ’11 also includes iWeb and iDVD for creating instant websites and burning your own DVDs."
So - the first does not exclude iWeb (and iDVD), while the second specifically includes them.
    I rest my case.

  • I set up my webpage on Iweb and cannot update it

I keep trying to republish my web site from Iweb using a Go Daddy server (they say it is Apple's issue)  and it works on my Iphone just fine but on my apple  laptop, my son's Driod and a friends notebook the home page comes out jumbled.  Images appear over print and the navigation tool bar does not respond? Thanks for any advise

Make sure that you empty the browser cache (or delete the browsing history) on these devices before visiting the published site. Either that or you can just try a page refresh or add a ? to the end of the URL to force it.
If that doesn't work have a look at the "Troubleshooting" info here...

  • Create and manage multiple web sites using iWeb and GoDaddy

Now that Mobile Me is going away and the other comments in this discussion relate to iwebsites were written several years ago, I am looking for  new and up-to-date information.
I have been building and maintaining a website using my MobileMe account and porting it over to GoDaddy.
I need to re-write the site if for no other reason than it is getting cluttered and needs freshining.
I would also like to create some other seperate web sites with their own URL
    1)  Is iWeb capable of doing this?
    2)  All the information I have found on iWebsites is at least 3 years old and there does not seem to be updates to that software.
    3)  Are there other tools that will allow me to do this?
And finally, does the group have  any words of wisdom for me.
    Thanks Dunc

It is now generally acknowledged that iWeb, and iDVD, has been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
However, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
It now appears that the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.
Personally, if I didn't already have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.

If you're running or planning on running Lion the following will be of some interest to you:
In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For opening your domain file in Lion for the first time or to switch between multiple domain files  Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
Just launch the applicaiton, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain. This applicaiton can be use with earlier versions of the OS to select and open multiple domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • Using 'Multisite for iWeb' and the new iWeb 09

I use multisite for iWeb by Clarkwood software to publish multiple sites I have designed with iWeb. Now that the NEW iWEB 09 has the essentially same ability (to upload/manage multiple iWeb sites) I was wondering if anyone else is using 'Multisite for iWeb' and has ran into any problems when upgrading?
    Thanks!
    -JKP

With the disastrous introduction of iWeb '08, I rebuilt all my websites on new, blank domain files.
I have 26 sites with each domain file in a separate folder. These are kept in a in a folder - iWeb - in a second dock.
I can launch any site with two mouse clicks - far quicker than launching Multisite or iWebsites.
I have dealt with many instances of domain file corruption in this forum and it doesn't seem to matter which method is used - splitting domain files, iWebsites or Multisite.
I followed the advice of Cyclosaurus and Suzanne of 11 Mystics and have had no problems at all.
I'm not throwing any accusations at any of the above methods of handling multiple domains - I'm just not prepared to risk using them.

  • IWeb stopped its evolution, what software to use now?

    Hi,
Besides iWeb 11 I am wondering what software out there would do best to "take over" in terms of ease to use and nice result. I know iWeb 11 can still be used and build great websites but it will inevitably loose track with what is going on as development stopped since a while now, won't it? As far as I understand it (and correct me if I am wrong) iWeb generated files are not usable by any other website building software. Switching to another software means rebuilding all the site from scratch, wow that's a time killer! Anyway, before moving on I am looking to read from your experiences, your opinions and views about alternative webdesigning sofwares. I'm not much of a webdesigner but here is what I could put together with iWeb 08

  • Slideshow won't play on iweb and make page disappear

Hello. I have been jacking with this program for a month now with some success and some failure. Today I was revisited by something I thought I resolved: My webpage disappeared from my album page that contains all the links to my pages. It is gone from both my computer version and of course the published version. It shows in the sidebar in iweb, but not on the page?
    http://web.me.com/tedcarlos/FamilyTrips_and_visits/Family_Trips_and_visits/Family_Trips_andvisits.html
I had deleted this missing page before and stated over and it seem to work, but after my last edit, it was gone again.
I have been trying to publish an iphoto slideshow that I had exported as a movie for weeks. My mac people can see it, my PC family members cannot! I' tried to make it small for the web, changed the filename to mp4 from mpv4, but PC people still could not see it. So I tried to put the slideshow movie in as a huge .mpeg and it disappeared. ( I had made an avi file but it looked horrible so used the equally as large but better ,mpeg)
I am getting the idea that it can only be done with imovie! Is than an authoritative step by step on iphoto 08,quicktime pro, and Iweb so I can put all these things together?

You can't burn a video dvd using just PSE. Adobe wants you to use Premiere Elements to create the final video disc. If you have PRE, use that. If not, just output the slideshow as a WMV file and use whatever burning software you have, even Windows DVD maker, to create the actual video disc.
The only kind of video disc PSE can make is the hateful VCD format, which is always terrible in quality and not well supported anymore. It was a good idea back when DVD burners were very expensive, but it's archaic now.
